Moltendreams - Error Sans Alias - Static Pronouns: he/him, they/them Personality: Petty, holds a mean grudge, Big Tsundere, Complete Shut-in, Quick Tempered and Moody, fanatic with his interests, externally aggressive when in actuality he is quite shy. An absolute troll. His favorite passtime is messing with others. Paradoxically touch starved and suffers from haphephobia. Reckless with his own well being.
This variant of Error is capable of both love and compassion, he just hides it under a grumpy exterior and several layers of denial and self-destructive dogma. Other Notes:
Reluctant to harm Papyrus directly, though Static can't articulate why, and will generally avoid encounters Papyrus in any given AU.
Had a good relationship with his dad/W.D Gaster, actually.
Relates to "pest" pets; rats, mice, snakes, spiders, beetles, he loves them all.
Would have a pet rat of his own if he wasn't afraid of it shocking itself by chewing on his wires.
His favorite kind of chocolate is mixed with a hazelnut filling.
Views Frisk as a younger sibling.
Into Parkour.
-More Info undercut! -
Abilities: Static uses wire instead of string. Wire and summoned attacks can and do hold an electric charge. His presence alone messes with electronic devices. Residents of a particular AU may get a few minutes or seconds of warning as sweaters get staticy, computer screens glitch out, and anything with a battery spontaneously dies or gets super charged. By creating a circle of alternating RED and CYAN bones, Static creates a sort of reverse faraday cage. While Static can produce electricity, he can't directly control the voltage. He can only hope to direct it. The voltage of a charge is directly influenced by his emotional state. If you touch him, you will find his clothes zappy with static. Do NOT attempt to fight him in humid or watery environments for, hopefully, obvious reasons.
About: Static originates from a pre-Pacifist timeline that was followed by a looping Genocide Route. Through repetitive iterations, and an escalating instability in the timeline, the monsters of the underground began to recall events they didn't witness and memories they shouldn't recall.
Working together, Static, at that point still Sans, and Alphys were able to pin point the root cause of their timeline's instability. They made a plan to save the underground and separate Frisk from the Anomaly but when it came time to execute their plan something went catastrophically wrong. As a result Sans was torn from reality, and caught in the space in-between. Eventually, he escaped but not unscathed. Static has vague conflicting memories of his past, and to this day, questions if any of it was real. He can't find his original AU and secretly fears it may have been the first world he destroyed. He is still looking for it.
Outcode Politics: Static views all outcodes the same way he views every iteration of the original timeline that even slightly deviates: as glitches to be terminated. Bugs in the code he needs to hammer out before it all goes to hell. Static believes that by destroying deviating timelines and AUs, he is preserving the stability of the original. He is “saving’’ it from corruption by trimming the branches back. Despite his position as the self proclaimed Destroyer, Static is not above biases and making exceptions.
Static includes himself on his long list of glitches in the code to be terminated. Static has a different view on the Spirits of Creation that Fable/Ink does. (Spirits of Creation are the in-universe term and stand-in for the creator of an AU). He calls them eldritch parasites. Abominations that should be avoided at all costs. And absolutely should not be encouraged or interacted with. Though he won't admit it out loud, Static is terrified of them. OG Error @.LoverofPiggies/CrayonQueen) Moltendreams @.me Edit: he has been named! Edit 2: revised his profile a bit

TW: SENSITIVE TOPICS??
Because Color canonically almost died. (if it weren't for Gaster having to pick up the broken pieces that were left of him when trying to escape the void) do you think Color would be this desperate and suicidal for freedom? Has he gained his kindness to save Killer from knowing how it feels to be caged in pits of despair and darkness?
-COUGHZ.. one of your mutuals:3 (GUESS WHICH ONE!!)
i cannot guess because i cannot handle being publicly wrong and also embarrassed ever. /hj
but i am also not good at remembering moot names except for a few, and also i have a moot with a typing quirk where the ‘s’ in words are replaced with Z’s. Like thiz. so that stands out.
but i can only think of 3 moots rn who talk about color as much as i do (theres probably more but these r all i can remember). those are Ozzie, toffee, and ano. but i ultimately have no way of knowing 😔. I don’t appreciate being put on the spot like this, anon. /lh
and i dont think he gained kindness from this exactly, but rather his experience gave him first hand understanding of the feelings—he can tell when someone is only doing or saying they want something because it’ll appease others, convincing themselves they want it too, and so that makes everything okay.
i think he is always pretty kind, even without understanding something or someone, but his understanding and his perseverance and patience in trying to understand is what stands out to killer particularly. his kindness also stands out a lot too, but so does the sense of intense injustice color feels on his behalf.
so i think its a mix of personal understanding, perseverance in trying to understand when he fails to initially, kindness, and his sense of justice (such as his belief that another’s autonomy should always be respected and protected) that spurs him into trying to find a right way to approach killer. his bravery to keep trying and integrity are spurred on by the more he starts to understand, and relate.
so i think that even if color couldn’t personally relate, he’d still try to save killer—because he can see how it feels, all over his face. he can see how his words do not match his actions do not match his facial expressions. but it’s because he knows how it feels, has experience with it, that he gets anywhere with killer at all. because that understanding signaled safety for stage 1.
which was another big hang up killer had with swap—that swap didn’t, couldn’t, know what he feels, despite how swap claimed to know how killer “doesn’t want this” and “wants to saved.”
because how in the world could swap know these things about killer, when he himself doesn’t even know what he wants. color understands this, and how it feels—and he doesn’t approach killer from a “i know what’s good for you” angle.
he’s able to see that killer doesn’t truly want what he says he does in Stage 2 (that he’s not happy with what he currently has and what he currently does, despite all his claims about the fun he’s having and the player wants it so he wants it, and how nightmare “asked” him to, and he wants this he wants this and every single rational he can come up with that’ll make it all okay and something he chose to do rather than something he couldn’t even say no to) and he attempts to get him to admit that and be honest with himself for once, but he doesn’t ever say killer has to do this, or do that, or think this. just that he should stop hurting himself for others—something color knows all too well.
it is killer that asks to be saved, because he wants to be. and he tells color this because he can tell that color understands—which is also probably the reason why killer kept trying to push him away.
why he keeps pushing him away in stage 2–because killer definitely wouldn’t like someone trying to understand him when he’s like that. his whole thing is trying to remain unpredictable, and not give anyone any power or control over him—especially not over his mind.
he just needs awhile to realize and trust that color has no intentions to cause him harm, and isn’t trying to hurt him by “taking away” what he knows and rather it is what he knows that is hurting him.
Alexa, play Hey Ya! by OutKast.
off topic, but i love that color never rushed killer to make any type of choice—just was there to help, support, and challenge him. make him aware how the situation he’s in now isn’t helping him at all and it doesn’t have to be that way, that theres always something new out there and he’s willing to show him—however long it takes, whenever he’s ready, if killer ever wants it. that this life isn’t the only option left available to him.

@null-siren
Over the years, Gaster had witnessed plenty of others that bore the same name. Some he had actually engaged with. Others he simply watched, judging from a distance. Most were of the unsavory type, a few rather pleasant.
Worst, he felt, were those that dwelled fully in the VOID, those fragmented, lost SOULs that had nowhere else to go, fueled only by emptiness and a scathing desire to be whole again.
(NO MATTER THE MEANS.)
a fate he had barely escaped.
He was used to them. Dancing just out of sight; on the precipice of reality; stalking and laughing, inching onto his territory, egging a reaction. (because they must because they MUST because they must feed on the emotions of others they must fill that emptiness.)
Gaster had found it best to ignore them.
After they realized he would not engage with them, that there was no amusement to be had, they left of their own accord, to find a new victim that could perceive them, to drive some other poor SOUL to the brink of insanity.
USUALLY.
Ignore it. Ignore it. Ignore it.
And he did for a while, regardless of how his instincts screamed at him, how something brushed against the fragments of his being, how something just didn't seem quite right when his back was turned. He ignored it, with grimaces and twitches and noiseless growls directed at nothing.
NO MORE.
Tumblr media
"What do you want?"
He did not ask, he demanded, fiery, mouth quirked into a snarl as he whirled to face nothing. But he knew better. He stretched his senses, called to the VOID, sent a message.
I know you're there don't play with me this is my world.
(because he must. because if his attempt at intimidation failed, -- WHAT THEN?)

Howdy! In honor of Let Papyrus Say Fuck Day, I've decided to put together a little collection of fics that should be more Papyrus focused!
What Are Friends For by IchikiWindGryphon (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
Undyne and Papyrus are the best of friends. But when Undyne learns Papyrus's greatest secret, it pushes their relationship to the brink. Things only get worse as she learns of the skeleton brothers' traumatic past, and the horrors of Dr. W.D. Gaster.
We Need to Talk by batter_sempai (General Audiences, Incomplete)
Something is bothering Frisk. Because of a deal they made in the past, a familiar voice keeps haunting them, telling them to murder those close to them and threatening to take over their body. For a while, only Flowey knows what is happening to them, but their struggle to keep in control is noticed by Papyrus, who offers to help them. All three of them soon find themselves isolated, as Papyrus attempts to communicate to the Fallen Child possessing Frisk, in order to protect his brother and to prevent another genocide run from occurring.
Flowey Is Not a Good Life Coach by unrestedjade (Mature, Complete)
Flowey gets bored and decides to change up one of his runs. Papyrus presents an interesting project, for the moment.
You Can't Make An Emotionally-Developed Papyrus Omelette Without Breaking A Few Limit-Eggs by KachiggaTHUNDER (Teen And Up, Complete)
Papyrus faces everything with a positive attitude, and never gives up once he's been asked to do something. As nice as that is in theory, it can lead to problems in practice. Problems such as strained friendships, personal doubts and damage to one's personal possessions. Still, no problem can make the Great Papyrus give up! ...Probably.
Two Sides of the Same Coin by AceFace98 (Teen And Up, Complete)
Papyrus lived his whole life in a single room, with only the “Mental Evaluation” days to look forward to (he called them “Long Boring Test” days, which was much more accurate). He never really minded his life, he didn’t know anything else. The doctors were all really nice to him, and he had everything he could possibly want. Expect, maybe, he wished he wasn’t so lonely. But when his wish comes true, everything else comes crashing down around him. Another skeleton child breaks into his room, carrying a backpack full of supplies and plans of escape. Papyrus tags along with him, mostly not to loose the closest thing he’s ever had to a friend, and he finds out quickly that he’s grossly unprepared for the outside world. But friends stick together, especially when they might be...brothers?
The Deep End Yessica (Teen And Up, Complete)
There must have been a mistake. He doesn’t belong here. Life is great. Monsters are free, the surface is wonderful and things couldn’t be better. So the fact that Papyrus still wants to die, isn’t really a problem, is it?
Blue Heart by Rogue_Mutt (Teen And Up, Incomplete)
In the Underfell Universe, Papyrus continues to uphold his duties as a member of the Royal Guard Militia alongside his brother Sans. When he accepts an assignment from Undyne to collect taxes from Snowdin, he is then ambushed before he can make the delivery. After being brutally attacked, he gains the respect from king Asgore Dreemurr himself, who offers Papyrus to become an official member of his grim guard. Papyrus will come to understand the rules of this Kill or be killed world as he comes to question exactly what he is willing to do to keep he and his brother alive and well.
Forgettable by Peepasaurus (Teen And Up, Complete)
After the world went dark, everyone lost a few memories. But some forgot more than others. Papyrus couldn't decipher what was real or an illusion. What was a nightmare or a memory. What it meant to keep hearing the words, 'I am here'.
Oh, Brother by peachyelixer (Teen And Up, Complete)
Papyrus had always seen himself as the stronger brother. Of course - why wouldn’t he when his lazy brother, Sans, spends 90% of the day sleeping in his room and the other 10% doing god-knows-what? But when the secrets of time-lines and what Sans has been keeping on his shoulders are revealed, Papyrus makes a promise both to himself and to his brother that Sans wouldn’t fight this battle on his own anymore. Papyrus was going to help his older brother, no matter what.
How To Be A Big Brother by kaliawai512 (General Audiences, Complete)
Frisk is upset. Papyrus doesn't know why. They're on the surface, everyone is safe and they all have a brand new life together. But Frisk has been sitting in the corner during the day and waking up screaming in the middle of the night. They are very, very upset, and Papyrus wants to help. He just doesn't know how. But he does know how someone helped him when he was young, and maybe, just maybe, he can do the same thing himself. Maybe he can be as great a big brother as his own was to him. (Secret Santa gift for Peanutable - happy holidays!!)

*inhales* SKELEBROS HEADCANONS
TW: MENTIONS OF CURSING, DEATH, ABUSE, SUICIDE, AND HANDPLATES SPOILERS
for sans and papyrus, i think the handplates lab is my headcanon for a backstory, but altered.
sans and papyrus were never “aged up” like they were in the comics, so sans was about eight and papyrus was a year old when they escaped. and instead of sans killing gaster, he took papyrus and just fucking BOLTED for an exit. alphys wasn’t involved in their escape, gaster just left a door open by accident.
when they ran, after a few hours of being gone gaster realized they had escaped and began a frantic search of the underground, leaving them with a few close calls of being dragged back into the lab. however sans discovered his ability to teleport and used it well throughout their escape, eventually glitching his magic from overuse and landing them in a snowdrift outside grillby’s. seeing as it was around midnight, they hid by his door and sans frantically tried to keep papyrus warm. in the morning, as you can imagine, being a fire monster in a snowstorm and walking outside to see two hypothermic little skeletons shivering by your door is quite a start to your day, so grillby freaked out when he opened up shop and brought them inside.
when gaster finally stopped searching for them, after weeks, he realized there was no hope. assuming they would tell everyone about his horrific experiments, he jumped into the core and the world forgot about him. he thought it was better that way. in the void, he still does.
the skeletal brothers were taken care of for their first year in snowdin by the shopkeeper bunny and grillby, but since nobody could really afford to adopt or take care of them, they finally were moved into the only open house there was in town— the big cabin at the outskirts of the village. after a little while of getting settled in, papyrus one day while sans was at school decided to take a table saw and cut off his hand plate. he was six, and cut the top of his hand open, but he got the plate off and bandaged it tightly. sans freaked out of course, but after careful consideration he attempted to remove his own.
their hands are horribly scarred from the ordeal, which is why they hide them under gloves, but they both agree— they’re better than the plates.
i might turn this into a fic or comic. depends on what you guys think.

OMG all the new boys are fascinating but ummm Swapfell Fruition especially?? Sounds so good?? I would love a full lore dump on this concept, I love the idea of Vi playing the long con to get rid of Gaster and it all sounds so good. Incidentally I need to read Dirty Laundry again lol, everything you make with regards to any version of Swapfell is just *chef's kiss*
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Swapfell Fruition
A young Sans’ attempt to kill his creator, the Royal Scientist is a failure.
Gaster survives the scuffle that would’ve toppled him off of the CORE’s scaffolding and gains the upper hand, subduing his traitorous creation and forcing him—and the younger one he’d been trying to escape with—back to his labs.
Sans was reckless, tipped his hand too soon and without the luck to have succeeded on the first attempt, Gaster learns that he is a sneaky little backstabber, capable of appearing obedient but hiding ruthless intentions.
He's almost proud… but of course he can't have that.
It becomes clear to the Royal Scientist that obviously, he needs his creations to have some kind of failsafe. The little one hasn't shown any signs of disobedience yet, but his primary caretaker is a crafty little snake, no telling what he could influence him to do, if given the time or the chance—so it’s back to the drawing board, to the operating table with them both.
Papyrus, at his age, doesn't really know what happens to him, only that whatever was done to him hurt, a lot. He wakes up after in the room he’d shared with his brother, scared and hurting and alone, and when Sans finally reappears, he goes to him for a hug.
Except…
Sans doesn’t hug him back.
He doesn’t hug back, and he doesn’t say anything, no matter how much Papyrus begs him to…
And the next time Gaster summons them to the lab, it’s Sans who picks him up and keeps him from squirming away, holding his arm out for Gaster’s needles.
Papyrus doesn’t understand the betrayal, at the time or in the years that follow.
His hurt turns to bitterness and resentment as his once gentle and protective big brother starts to actively help their creator change him, gradually shaping him into a stronger, more efficient killer.
But even with all the modification and training he’s subjected to, Papyrus isn’t quite the solider or war machine Gaster had planned he would be—he spooks when caught by surprise, he’s easily distracted by irrelevant things, his loyalties twist and sway far too easily for Gaster’s liking…
Well, the Royal Scientist is nothing if not resourceful, certainly able to work with…limited materials and still produce something of use.
With the right mental conditioning, and the right handler to make use of it, Papyrus will still be a valuable asset for the Empress.
After all, there’s always political enemies to the crown that her highness would surely prefer to have…removed, discreetly, and other such dirty work best done in the shadows.
Fast and stealthy, like an assassin, seems more suited to Papyrus’ abilities anyway.
And as for a handler, who better than Sans to fill the role?
Gaster’s prototype was largely a failure, but certainly intelligent and organized, presumably capable of researching and observing targets, briefing the asset on situations and targets and memorizing the trigger words and phrases necessary to keep him operating at peak efficiency.
Sans doesn’t protest.
He doesn’t protest much of anything anymore, not since…
………
Well, it’s not like he’s ever spoken about what happened when everything changed, not even to Papyrus, so when he goes along with this too, neither Gaster nor Papyrus expects otherwise.
So, that’s how it is.
Papyrus becomes the perfect assassin and Sans doles out his marching orders, occasionally following behind on missions to jerk his leash and keep him on track.
Between them, it’s…complicated.
Sans is still Papyrus’ brother, the closest thing to an ally that Papyrus has, both of them stuck in service to a power-hungry, unethical prick.
There are moments where they’re okay, times where a joke will slip out and one of them will laugh, injuries tended to, backs watched under fire, and dozens more little things that just wouldn’t happen if they were nothing to each other.
But the moments never last long.
Reality always comes back in sooner or later—usually in the form of Gaster, demanding an update or issuing new orders or calling them back from the field, to which Sans always, always complies.
Papyrus takes it as a reminder of where Sans’ real loyalties must lie.
He’s some kind of brother, not always awful, and maybe he does care about Papyrus, a little bit, but he answers to Gaster above anything or anyone else, apparently by choice.
He can’t be trusted, not really.
And Sans…
Sans stays quiet and does his job.
Quickly, efficiently, and to the letter—exemplary service, always.
Irreproachable.
He’s almost completely beneath suspicion by the time the last human falls into the Underground.
Gaster couldn’t be more thrilled.
This is a golden opportunity, the perfect chance to prove his worth to the Empress and earn clout and accolades innumerable—to be the one responsible for capturing the seventh soul and freeing all of monsterkind from their centuries of imprisonment and allowing the war against humanity to finally begin!
Well, technically, it would be his creations doing it, but it’s his name that history will remember, him who would rise into legend as the most brilliant and ruthless monster to ever live, the catalyst in humanity’s downfall.
He doesn’t waste so much as a minute before summoning Sans and ordering him to handle it, immediately.
Meet with the Empress, alert her that there’s a human loose in the Underground, and offer her the services of the asset in ending their free roam.
Sans agrees, as he always has, and goes to fetch his brother for the job.
Papyrus is admittedly a little blindsided when not two seconds out of the labs, Sans pulls him aside, out of range of known cameras and recording devices and hisses at him to listen.
He doesn’t know what to make of what Sans says after, either—that he hasn’t earned it and he knows that, but he needs Papyrus to trust him right now, because he is going to lie and everything depends on Papyrus going along with it.
In spite of their messy history and every uncharitable thing Papyrus has ever thought about Sans…right here and now, something in his gut tells him this is no trick.
He agrees to ‘go along with it’…whatever ‘it’ is.
Sans waits until a certain amount of time has elapsed, and then he makes a call to Gaster with Papyrus present to listen.
Gaster is informed that there’s a problem with the latest target. The asset’s programming isn’t taking and he’s refusing to track down the human.
This is, of course, news to Papyrus, who hasn’t been assigned his target yet.
But…Sans said ‘trust me’ and ‘play along,’ so that’s what he does, complaining that he doesn’t want to kill a child, just put him back in his cage and do your own dirty work, old man…
Helpfully—always helpful, always intelligent, always reliable—Sans postulates a conflict of orders might be causing the programming to bug like this. Gaster’s overarching orders are for the asset to kill targets assigned to him, but the Empress has unfortunately countermanded that the human must be brought to her alive.
And again, Papyrus knows differently because the Empress hasn’t given him any orders, they never made it to her for orders to be given and Toriel likely doesn’t even know yet that a human has fallen.
But he said he’d go along with the lie so he keeps his mouth shut, even as he hears Gaster curse on the other end of the line.
Gaster finds Sans’ assessment of the situation as reasonable as it is frustrating, but minds are complicated machines and often behave strangely when conflicts arise. Just look at the Empress, who knows that humans must be killed to free her people, but feels she must perform the act herself instead of the far more convenient option being presented to her!
The asset’s orders being in conflict is a far more annoying stopping block, though, yet another barrier in the way of all the glory that Gaster has so painstakingly earned.
Time is short, stakes are high, he refuses to recall his creation just to debug it and resolve the glitch, not now.
Instead he makes his fatal mistake.
He overrides the asset’s failsafes.
All of them.
Impatiently rattling off a code that nearly makes Papyrus stagger from a feeling like weight being lifted, Gaster disconnects the call with a sharp command to Sans to ‘handle it,’ now that there were no restrictions on his targets or what he could be ordered to do.
Sans is only quiet for a moment before handing a picture to Papyrus, locking him on and beginning the usual debrief.
Papyrus can’t fully grasp what he’s looking at, not at first.
“………confirm target?”
“WINDINGS GASTER, THE CURRENT ROYAL SCIENTIST TO THE CROWN.”
As with any briefing, Papyrus must be informed of his target’s connections, abilities and assets.
Gaster has strong ties with the crown, and between that and his own paranoia, security around him will be tight. He’s intelligent, strong, and merciless, and he won’t hesitate to make use of anything at his disposal in a life-or-death situation.
As an example, he had implanted a condition into his private assassin’s mental programming that would prevent him from acting against or outright attacking him—so it’s fortunate they’ve already cleared that concern.
Now, the top priorities are to ensure that Sans is physically far away from Gaster when the mission is executed, and that Papyrus is at no point seen by Gaster before he’s dead. The entire operation could be sunk if both of these conditions aren’t met.
“why?”
“THERE’S AN ADDITIONAL FAILSAFE, IMPLANTED IN YOUR SOUL. IF GASTER REALIZES YOU’VE BEEN TURNED ON HIM BEFORE YOU’VE SUCCEEDED, HE CAN INSTANTLY DROP YOUR HP TO 1.”
“………and why am i doing this without my handler?”
“BECAUSE I’M COMPROMISED TOO. IF HE SEES ME OUT OF PLACE OR SUSPECTS I’VE BETRAYED HIM AGAIN, HE’LL USE THE FAILSAFE IN MY SOUL TO REMOTELY CONTROL MY BODY AND MOBILIZE ME AGAINST YOU—AND OF COURSE, AT THAT POINT, HE WOULD KNOW THAT YOU’RE TARGETING HIM AS WELL AND BE PREPARED TO KILL YOU.”
And that…
Well.
That sure is a hell of a lot of new information that Papyrus will have to process later, when there’s not a strong compulsion in the back of his skull that there is someone he needs to kill.
He’s a professional, when he’s working.
He will focus on the mission.
To keep up appearances, Sans departs to find the fallen human and trail them on their journey through the Underground. He very much wants to ensure they reach the Empress safely, but there’s an added bonus of being exactly where he’s supposed to be and doing exactly what he’s supposed to do should Gaster check in on him—no need to arouse any suspicion, not before it’s far too late.
In the end, when Chara has befriended monsterkind against all odds, winning over the Empress herself and freeing them all to a life of peace with humankind on the surface, the death of the Royal Scientist is an incidental discovery.
Sans takes responsibility for it, pleading for the Empress’s mercy.
Gaster had wanted the human—kind young Chara, to whom Toriel has taken such a liking—killed immediately as soon as they emerged from the Ruins, and he hadn’t thought that the Empress would condone such an order in light of what she’s always held to regarding fallen humans.
Gaster had been adamant, though, and Sans… Well, he only wanted to serve the will of her highness and to do so, he turned the asset against their master. He hopes only for some leniency for what he’s done, Gaster may have been their father but—
Strangely enough, it seems Toriel had no idea that the asset and his handler were the Royal Scientist’s children. He’d always told her they were employees, volunteers for the things that were done to them and the missions they were told to undertake.
Learning that they had actually been created, intentionally molded and pressed into these roles without a choice in the matter…
Toriel, an Empress first but a mother a very close second, can certainly afford leniency.
The brothers are let loose in spite of their crime, with a bit of funding from the Empress to get on their feet after everything. The money is partially back-pay for their joint service as the crown’s black ops division (for which they were never actually compensated before), and partially amends for how long their…circumstance…went unnoticed.
Sans offers to split the money and part ways with Papyrus, if he’d prefer.
But Papyrus has learned a lot in the past few days to…completely and utterly recontextualize everything he ever thought was true about his handl—…his brother, and…maybe he should stick around a bit. See what’s what.
Vi (Swapfell Fruition Sans)
Extremely restrained and closed off from so many years of being unable to talk to or trust anyone, not even his brother. An accomplished liar but socially unpracticed, tending to read as cold and unfriendly to those who approach him. He’s more awkward than genuinely hostile, though
Issues with being watched, spent most of his life simultaneously going unnoticed and being intensely over-monitored so his feelings about being observed—regardless of context—are complicated, runs hot and cold on it
Complicated feelings for his brother, too: he loves him, of course, and he failed him in many ways, but he was also stuck between him and Gaster for a long time and caught his fair share of hell from both sides and there’s some resentment there for that. He wants to fix things, but he’s not really sure how and just…awkwardly trying his best
Well-organized and skilled at research and thinking analytically, tends to approach most things with a problem-solving attitude and an eye-socket for detail. Extremely talented at finding loopholes and ways around or through the rules—though his respect for said rules is very low to begin with
Likes high and secluded places, mostly rooftops but anywhere it could be difficult for other people to get to. Whether or not those places are restricted by fencing or padlocks or lack of ladders is immaterial, if he finds a high spot he would like to be, he will get to it one way or another and perch as long as he pleases
Hunter (Swapfell Fruition Papyrus)
Impulsive and driven by self-interest, the years of mental conditioning have broken down his fears and inhibitions to nearly nothing. He does what he wants, when he wants, with little concern for anything else—a dog off its leash who’ll only heel when it’s good and ready to. Unfortunately charming enough to mostly get away with it
Problems with authority, for obvious reasons. Likely to try to bend or break any rule presented to him, just to see if he can, and a severe lack of respect for anyone trying to enforce those rules upon him (especially the arbitrary ones)
Conflicting and highly jumbled feelings for his brother, making them a matched set: he disliked him, maybe even hated him a little for a long time, for helping Gaster turn him into what he is and for being the one to yank his leash and pull his strings…but that was before he knew that he had a kill-switch in his soul and that his brother was up on strings on his own, being pulled by the jackass they both apparently hated… It doesn’t erase everything that happened, knowing that, but it does…change things. (He wants to fix things too, but he’s not sure how either, so they’re both just awkwardly trying)
Needs ‘tune-ups’ every so often to reinforce his mental conditioning and make sure all his programming is intact, even now that Gaster’s gone and he’s retired as an assassin. Going too long without re-upping it causes deterioration, compulsions ‘leaking’ without being triggered and causing headaches and erratic, sometimes violent behavior so…best for everyone to keep his head maintained regularly
Absolutely loves nature and wilderness, hiking, camping, and climbing trees is his idea of an excellent time. Could absolutely go off on a run and disappear into the trees and not be seen or heard from for a week, likely to get some forest-cryptid lore started about him—possibly on purpose

What can you tell us about the Grillbys? Grillbies?
Besides that fell Grillby is related to his Fell Sans
Here’s all my grillbies in “play”!
Grillby:
the og flame man himself! Grillby is an older flame elemental aged 477 and is from undertale. He stands at 6 feet and has a pretty reddish orange flame.
Grillby is a monster of few words. He’s not shy, just not the talkative type. He does have a lovely laugh though. He’s a bit of a snoop and uses his very impressive poker face to act like he isn’t listening in on his customers conversations lol. If you need good gossip, grillby probably knows all about it already ;)
He owns the bar, grillbys that now has two locations! The main one is in the heart of new ebott of course, and the second is a slightly more classy version in Steeler! While he’s technically the owner, grillby still serves as the bartender in the ebott city location.
Grillby is in fact soulbonded to his handsome soulmate Frosty, a pale blue water elemental. They have a single child together who’s well into her adult years now.
Things he loves: greasy fast food, suits, cute little dogs, playing poker, his soulmate of course, puns, juicy gossip
Felby:
An older flame elemental from underfell, fellby has a purple flame aged exactly 500 this year. He stands at 6’5
Felby is a very grumpy hissy monster. He’s the perfect picture of “get off my lawn!!”. He’s unusually solitary for a monster, prizing his peace. While he is charming when he flirts, he never seems to keep relationships for long. This fact doesn’t seem to bother him though.
Felby had an illegal moonshine bar before the crash, and afterwards, using those skills of his in making unnecessarily strong drinks, he had a fake license made and now runs Fireball, a club only for those wanting to get absolutely wasted. It’s located in Steeler city.
Fellby never soulbonded, but he did have a string of lovers over the years, one of which resulted jn two sons, red and edge. They were a poorly planned attempt by their father(gaster, who carried) to get Felby to commit. Obviously it didn’t work and he doesn’t have any contact with his kids even now
Things he loves: alcohol, hook ups, rap music, leather clothes and furniture, the ocean
Spinby:
Spinby is a middle aged flame elemental, aged 388, from underswap! He has a pale yellow flame and stands at 5’9
Spinby is… he’s something that’s for sure. This guy is totally nuts. Combine a hippie, a circus performer and a child who just drank a 5 hour energy and you have Spinby! He’s incredibly creative and even more bouncy. And he dresses like a walking rainbow lol
Spinby owns an adorable milkshake and donut cafe in mettaland! The whole building is all rainbow pastels and he’s famous for his candy inspired shake flavors! The place is called sugar-spinner!
Spinby has the worst luck with love, but he hasn’t given up on it yet! He’s had a string of brief romances over the years, most of his partners being turned off by his constant cheer. He has an amazing friend group though that keep him down to earth and from getting too lonely
Things he loves: candies, cakes and shakes!, tie dye clothing, disco, bright colors, romance movies
Steallby:
Steallby (and yes that’s his actual name) is a dark blue flame elemental from swapfell. He’s older, aged 490 and stands at 5’10
Steallby is a very anxious monster. He’s quiet around strangers and does his best to blend in with the background, but with friends he’s a bubbly chatty monster. While he can play the nasty aggressive fell monster, he’s really just a shy baby. He’s a sweetie if one gets to know him
Steallby owns a small hole in the wall restaurant specializing in soup and bread! He calls it Soul food, and it’s located in the slums of new ebott
He had used the crash to escape his abusive ex-soulmate the water elemental sickle. He even managed to break the bond before his ex could find him. These days, Steallby has been slowly coming out of his shell and learning to enjoy life again.
Things he loves: fresh baked bread, stainless steal cooking wares, bird feeders, winter foods, snow, soft spoken people
Grills:
Horrortale grillby, he’s ten years older than his counterpart, 487 and stands at 7’1. His flame is slight dulled these days, but is still the same reddish orange
Grills is even quieter than grillby if that’s possible, and somehow is even nosier lol. He’s stopped caring about acting dignified and is quite obvious when he’s eavesdropping. He’s a gentle sort of personality, and despite his scary appearance, many consider him soothing to be around
Grills was hired by grillby when leaving the institution healing the horror monsters after the crash. He works weekends as the bartender on grillbys days off
Grills was extremely lucky to survive the famine with his mate frost (previously known as frosty). They enjoy a slower life together, loving the peace of the surface
Things he loves: any food, his soulmate frost, reality tv, comedy shows, card games
Chillby:
Chillby is a baby blue flamed fire elemental from outertale! She is aged 436 and is 6’2 feet tall
Chillby is a sweet and playful monster who seems to just ooze curiosity. She’s an experimentalist and is all about those new life experiences. She prizes variety and adventure above all else
Chillby is a rather famous food critic in ebott. She’s a great writer with a sensational flair to her reviews, and her good media presence means that cafes and restaurants are actually excited to see her.
Chillby is happily soulbonded to icee and whooly, a grey water elemental and a white earth elemental. The triad all work remotely so they plan all their travels together!
Things she loves: sweet foods, airplanes, zip lines, hiking and her soulmates of course
Farbon:
Farbon is a large flame elemental from drakefell. He has a deep burgundy flame and his natural body shape includes two large flaming dragons wings, although most of the time he concentrates on keeping them in since they always get in the way. He’s aged 501 and stands at 6’8
Farbon is a stoic and dutiful character. He doesn’t have much of a sense of humor but is kind enough to pity laugh even if he doesn’t get the joke lol. He’s also oblivious as hell and will not know if you flirt with him.
He works as a blacksmith, focusing more on precious metals and small dainty creations instead of the more large hardy creations of other drakefell monsters. He’s commissioned pretty often by Ollivander to make decor for his banks.
Farbon against all odds somehow was seduced wedded and bedded by chilbell, a drakeswap water elemental. Chill bell (or chillie as he likes to be called) took one look at Farbon, spent weeks flirting trying to catch his attention, and finally had a breakdown in where he yelled at Farbon for being dumb as a brick, kissed him and asked him on a date all in the same breath. The rest is history and the two are happily soulbonded and have their first child, a toddler flame elemental, together
Things he loves: gold and silver, his soulmate, pretty metal trinkets, spring flowers, potatoes
Dolby:
Dolby is a yellowish orange flame elemental from theatretale. He stands at a shorter 5’6 for an elemental and is aged 399.
Dolby is not one for noise or theatre despite the au he’s from. Instead he’s a man of the written arts. It makes him considered unusual to his fellow theatre monsters, but outside of that au, he’s seen as a rather chill and average guy. He’s a normally quiet monster with a talent for telling jokes at the best time. You never know when he will speak, but when he does it’s hilariously amazing.
Dolby owns a simple cafe in Steeler called cup o’ coal. Its main seller is coffee of course but it also does sandwiches. The cafe is pretty popular with artists and writers because of the book clubs Dolby likes to host there, and the very comfy seating areas
Dolbys soulmate, treble, is a tan earth elemental with a gorgeous deep husky voice. Their childhood sweethearts and trebles voice is the only one that Dolby considers more beautiful than his novels and poetry. They had a child together as well (now an adult himself) and he’s the only “grillby” child to not be another flame elemental. The kid is a handsome grey earth elemental
Things he loves: his soulmate, poetry, coffee, whipped cream, tragedy novels
Phoenix:
Birdfell grillby, he’s a crimson red flame elemental with a massive flaming red pair of wings resembling an albatross! He’s a young 202 and stands at 6’7. He’s bloody gorgeous by monster standards
Phoenix’s wings aren’t the only big thing he has ;). His ego is massive. Being treated like a prince because of his looks has definitely creeped into his personality. Thankfully he’s a sweetie at his core, and while he can come across as big headed and condescending at times, he’s also very generous and friendly with every one around him.
Phoenix is one of ebotts top models. He’s in every years swimsuit edition despite not being a water type monster, and he’s especially famous for this one photo shoot advertising mellow marts new type of cheese by posing on a fur rug and pouring the melted cheese all over his… actually that’s not important. The pictures are a collectors item now though since they’ve been retracted.
Phoenix is surrounded by suitors, but he’s never had eyes for any of them. Or anyone for that matter. He’s just never had an interest in romance. He does adore making friends and keeps the ones that stick around close to his chest.
Things he loves: cheese, showing off his beautiful body, photo shoots, pedicures and manicures, photo shoots with babies and baby animals for those sexy calendars of hot men holding adorable things.
Kelby:
Kelby is a fierce golden flame elemental from fellswap gold. She is aged 477 and stands at 6’6
Kelby is fierce, stern and magnetic to those around her. She’s a monster many look up to and idolize. And she really is all that. She’s an incredibly talented individual who can back her confidence up. Don’t cross her though, her temper burns hot.
She’s the owner and head chef of a prestigious seafood restaurant in Steeler. Her place is a favorite of the royal, Empress and for good reason. Everything tastes heavenly. She runs her kitchen with an iron fist
Kelby always prized her career first, and prided herself as one of the few gold monsters in high society who got there on pure talent. No blackmail needed, a true feat really, so she never had time for romance. She is open to a partner these days though
Things she loves: seafood and meats in general, ballet, weightlifting, champagne and pretty scarves

Your comment before on Toriel just being ignorant about her children's mental health in many universes struck me. Her and Asgore really are from a different time and that's not necessarily their fault. They haven't really had to deal with serious mental issues before. Another comic Gasters Escape had Muffet force the issue on the two to get Kris into counseling and therapy after a seemingly attempted suicide.
Yeah, part of it is just that she's of a very different generation, and she is doing the best she can! Toriel's very set on being a good mother, and believes that being kind, understanding, attentive and soft-spoken are what's necessary for properly raising kids. And while those are all necessary aspects, neurodivergent kids or kids with other sorts of unique needs often require more than that, and she just doesn't know how to deal with that part. She works so hard on the kindness and attentiveness and 'being a good mother' part, and then doesn't understand why it doesn't seem to be enough for the human children she adopts. It's got to weigh on her a lot!

* DELTARUNE MAIN THEORIES (In order of probability? Maybe?)
1. BERDLY will be completely unimportant, and SNOWGRAVE will happen no matter what.
* this is simply due to the fact that snowgrave exists at all. toby fox has stated repeatedly that our choices don’t matter, and that the ending will stay the same. he’s also said that what happens within the story may be more important than the ending itself. both things combined and berdly’s arm being fried in a main route “ending” makes me believe that he’s simply gonna be killed off, whether we make noelle do it or if someone else does it for us
2. DELTARUNE is both a prequel and a sequel.
* i’m still not sure is prequel/sequel are the right words? deltarune definitely isn’t a direct beginning/sequel story to undertale. however, i firmly believe that it’s the prequel to sans and papyrus’s stories, both as brothers and as their own people.
* as for the “both” part, i believe that gaster took us and our/frisk’s soul from post-pacifist, and travelled us to the past, deltarune. i believe that his goal is not to harm others, but to help us create a better end for the deltarune universe and a better future for sans and papyrus. this one is very complicated, but it’s based off the fact that gaster was shattered across time and space, and that twitter! gaster said that he looks forward to “creating a new future” with us
3. KNIGHT PAPYRUS
* this is a HUUUGE theory, and i made multiple branches of it to cover every basis, both close to canon and far from it, so i’m gonna order them from how much i like them!!
— PAPYRUS stumbled into a dark world after GASTER’s passing (and thus, after his darkness related experiments), and was convinced by a fragment of GASTER to become THE KNIGHT for THE LIGHTENERS’s sakes.
* simply explained, undertale papyrus has a huge desperation to help everyone he can. i believe that especially after the passing of a likely loved one, papyrus would be easily manipulated into doing things to make others feel better
— PAPYRUS became THE KNIGHT in an attempt to cope with life through escapism, and to help THE LIGHTENERS escape their own issues as well.
* it’s clear that the main teen lighteners of deltarune have a ton of issues. kris and susie both have issues with their home lives, with toriel being semi-neglectful and kris being isolated from asgore due to toriel’s hatred of him, and with susie likely being homeless, or at the very least, very poor. noelle has a missing sister that could very well be dead, an ill father, and an extremely strict mother that she’s home alone with thanks to her dad being sick. berdly has major self esteem issues due to not being noticed much as a child until he won a spelling bee. due to how little we know about papyrus and his past, other than the fact that he was confirmed t be from the deltarune universe (green grass), i believe that papyrus could very well have used a power he found to create worlds of paradise for himself and the others.
— Either SANS, PAPYRUS, or both, are partially DARKENERS, and are using the threat of THE ROARING to find a way to exist in the LIGHT WORLD.
* this is a far fetched one, but it’s one i really enjoy. they both have major connections to darkeners already. sans is a lot like the spade family, he can teleport like rouxls and lancer, and papyrus says his room is like “another world”, which has a ton of darkness at the beginning. papyrus has major ties to jevil. not sure how to explain it other than that ralsei could very well be wrong about the roaring
— PAPYRUS being THE KNIGHT relates to GASTER’s experiments with darkness/DARK WORLDS.
* this one spiraled into a genuine theory due to a story i was writing about sans and papyrus for an rp. basically, as seen with kris, the creation of dark fountains is a disruption yet harmonization of light and dark. if sans is half lightener, and if papyrus is half darkener, then their similarities yet differences could prove as dark fountain symbolism
— PAPYRUS is GASTER, and he experimented with DARK WORLDS.
* papyrus has the most connections to gaster out of everyone, to the point of being referenced in one of two times his name is mentioned (smiling shred). most fun value events also happen in the two areas papyrus says he’s familiar with, snowdin and waterfall. he also shows a strange sadness when he sees the core in a phone call. i guess a tldr for this is that he made himself a villain, but decided to move on, fake his death, and try to forget he was ever “gaster”. papyrus seems obsessed with redemption, to the point where both snowdin xbox achievements reference a bible story about redemption, so this could be likely.
(i combined two theories into one)
3.5. SANS X JEVIL?
* i’m extremely biased towards this ship, but i can’t help but feel like that if knight papyrus is canon, sans and jevil will end up getting together due to how similar they are. extremely powerful, aware of everything being a game, nihilistic, comedians, round in body shape and head, an association with yellow… it makes sense i swear

Can we get some info or trivia about Grimmtale
Considering even KM refuses to engage with them according to the Alphaverse page
Grimmtale must be interesting
GRIMMTALE
Tumblr media
A AU drowned in despair and torment. GrimmTale was created due to the absence of true horror in the Multiverse and it shows within it's world.
Humans lost the war, however their dead souls let out a horrible toxin called DT radiation. It melted the mind and detreated the senses while also adding in new ones too. Such as...
DT sense: Allows users to detect anyone who uses DT
DT aura: Being made out of pure DT, anyone close by someone with this Aura will find they're skin bubbling, rotting and straight up melting.
DT Resistance: You are resistant to the effects of being exposed to Raw DT.
Basic Monsters posses these three traits. The rarer ones, go to the leaders and main heads of the AU who have taken control over their own regions of the underground.
The corpses of the humans from the war began emitting high amounts of DT radiation making everywhere on the surface uninhabitable. However, a short few monsters decided to try their luck out there. One of the few being Asgore and W.D Gaster.
The reports of what happened to them are unknown, but the effects were supposedly catastrophic. Without a King and the Queen going into hiding after the events of the war itself, the underground was separated into different factions and groups. Groups are within Factions and Factions run the underground.
The Three main factions are the...
Grounders
Marksmen
and Spearheads.
Unfortunately, over the years the radiation would get worse and worse until no one down below had any idea what it meant to be humane. The Radiation got so bad, other universes were perishing nearby cause of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Causing people to lose their minds, cannibalism, murder, trafficking and even assaulting other montsters. It didn't matter if it was friend, family or cousin. The Monsters of the underground had turned completely savage. This extends to of course Frisk or also know now as Freak. Who was made when Toriel had found the body of a mother and a human child who had both died falling down the hole into the underground. Toriel left the mother's body and in an attempt to save the child, fed them determination from the mother's body to revive them. Only for the effects of DT radiation to have a nasty effect.
Freak would devour Toriel and escape the ruins.

Some less-lore-oriented Gaster Thoughts(TM)
y'know, i don't imagine this is anything New per se, especially in terms of like. theorycrafting for lore, but. for a perspective of looking at undertale through a literary lens, maybe it is you ever think about the parallels between gaster and toby himself? I mean, both use the official undertale twitter, and... gaster is like, this super powerful plot device used to explain certain things. it feels like in a way, gaster is tobys real self insert. ive even heard rumors that his easter eggs were added as a way to make sans powerful and make that make sense
but i've been thinking about gasters fate, tobys history with UT/DR, and how it mirrors what dark fountains and dark worlds seem to be attempting to deconstruct, what they're literary metaphors for
For some reason, I remember always thinking that... "falling into his own creation" just. Literally meant he fell into either the core or... shoved himself in the DT extractor. But I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what that can mean. To fall into something can be to get absorbed in it in every facet of your life, to be thinking about it lots, or... just letting it take you over, in a way. To fall into ones own creation is to obsess over it. Was he obsessed in his research into... ah, we're getting into actual lore. Whoops Anyways, it would be odd for toby to have written this if you think about it as a parallel to the absolute success of undertale, since hes very humble and didn't expect a huge success... but when you think of it in the context of how much he, not a thriving community, was absolutely absorbed in his own creations? How he stopped the development of deltarune to make undertale? How hes still working on making that one dream he had years ago come true?
I think it pieces together as... quite poetic. I wouldn't say it was enough to make me believe it was intentional, though. When I piece that together with the brilliant theory that Andrew Cunningham posed in his video about determination in deltarune, though? Well, specifically that... deltarune is aiming to deconstruct our relationship to escapism, and that dark worlds are metaphors for creating fiction... Maybe gaster really was the first one to create a dark world, and. well. what happens when you go into a dark world? you fall into it. Perhaps gaster made himself more than just a simple dark world, but the entire world of deltarune, and thats why hes the... narrative god or whatever, at the beginning. Whether he made one or not, I cant say for certain. But I think I can say that toby may have made one, and thats one thing I'm curious to hear insight into after deltarune is all said and done. Was it always meant to be about a creators relationship to creations? about getting absorbed in fantasy? And how might this narrative have changed, as his own work became as loved and famous as it is? Only time will tell, won't it? Mr. brilliant White Dog ...

Anyway here is my aimless, ‘analysis’ on Color and why he lives, why he may seem focused on Killer, but also why that’s just his character to be outwardly focused on others and rarely allowing any bits of his internal self to slip through, likely because he just doesn’t genuinely think of himself outside of anything involving the six human souls and their needs, and doesn’t really expect others to be much interested in him either. He views himself as easily forgettable and replaceable, even as it’s the things he fears and dreads most.
I’m typing as I think so I’ll probably clean it up later if yall don’t understand.
But he also fears failure. Failing to save people, failing to protect them. Saving Killer is something he’d do for anyone, but it also provides a sense of closure for him.
Tumblr media
And stuff on my end copy pasted from Discord,
“Also Random kinda unrelated thought but like. maybe like killer, color doesn’t really know what he’s doing with his life either.
I wonder if he expected to die when he absorbed the souls, and then he never expected to get or be free. I wonder how listless he was before meeting killer. was he only living for others.
People say colors character is only about killer but that’s only because 1. Some refuse to look into his AU. And 2. Color didn’t exactly have much of anyone else??
For all intents and purposes his home isn’t his home. He knows them but they don’t know him and he has no reason to live in canon actual animated othertale (where he doesn’t know killer or the epic sanses) besides once again ensuring that they’re all safe from this new threat when we meet him.
(Edited:) It’s even implied he’s only still alive after his last escape attempt, however long ago (since it’s implied that Color has been with Gaster in the Void for like 17-20 years at least), because of Gaster. Either he was trying to kill himself, or he was willing to risk dying.
but once that was gone, what was he going to do. they still don’t know him, anything about him, and he doesn’t know them. They’re so different from how he remembers.
He has no one. They’re alive but they’re not. He’s risked everything for them and he was happy to die doing do so but he didn’t. What’s he supposed to do with himself now. There’s no place for him in the world, and the world doesn’t even seem to want or need him anymore.”
It’s worth noting that Othertale only exists as it does, instead of being normal Undertale, precisely because Sans/Color was kicked out, patched over, forgotten, erased, replaced by Undyne and then it all moved on without him.
So even in my hc that Color leaves Othertale, takes Core Frisk’s offer to join the Omega Timeline, and became Delta’s roommate; he was still at his lowest point, and didn’t even reach anything resembling a high point until meeting Killer.
He can see Killer, but no one else seems to. He wants to help, and he wants to understand. No one else is gonna pursue this, help Killer—those who have tried have failed. He reasons for helping killer are born from moral principles, past experiences, the belief that no one else would (for valid reasons), and even those who don’t even think Killer needs, wants to be, or deserves to be saved.
Similar to Vi from Arcane, who was thrown into prison for her developmental teenage years, coming out not realizing everything has changed, that her sister has changed, and unwilling to accept that powder has grown up and has a new name.
But unlike Vi, who attempts to make everything go back to the way it was, color just..avoids it. Leaves, away from it, goes looking for something new.
His need for something new comes from having spent years in what amounts to basically solitary confinement, where everything was the same over and over, until eventually even the suicide escape attempts and breakdowns became more of the same.
So while Color makes Killer feel wanted, needed, safe, cared for, loved, validated, protected—Killer makes Color feel seen, heard, remembered, important, needed, fascinating, valued. Seen and valued. They make eachother feel understood.
I think similar to Vi, Color is a caretaker, a protector, of individuals and communities he happens to stray into on his wandering trips—he’s terrified of failure, but also craves acknowledgement for what hes always tried his best to do.
If he’s not looking for something new, not wanting to stay in the same place forever, he’s trying to use his life and freedom to give the six kids keeping him alive a second chance at living—he’s not obligated to anyone, unlike Dream is (being a guardian of positivity), he’s just some ridiculously powerful guy. An afterthought in his own story, because it wasn’t his story, but a major part in Killer’s.
He doesn’t help others only because he wants acknowledgement, but also because it’s just what he thinks is right, but having his efforts acknowledged cements that he’s still real, still existing. That he hasn’t been forgotten. And I just think Killer is particularly skilled at making him feel appreciated, and valued.
He’d do it this for everyone in Killer’s place, who asked him for help. He’d help them to the best of his ability, and he wouldn’t ask for or expect anything.
But Killer gives it to him, knowing he’d never ask for it — because he can see Color, and that he likes being seen, and is maybe even suprised that Killer would see him the way he does. And Killer likes seeing Color—would like to see everything about Color. Not just his souls or his code.
Killer makes Color feel like he isn’t just a step outside the rest of world, or like he isn’t a ghost— or more like, killer stepped outside the world with him and joined him there. Color’s eye doesn’t look through Killer, and Killer’s gaze doesn’t drift right over Color.
This is not accounting for the HC that Color and Delta are roommates, of course, which would change some things—mainly in that Delta would’ve seen Color at all his lowest points and would’ve been the one taking care of Color—and a lot of how Color takes care of Killer may even be somewhat inspired by his relationship with Delta, but again that’s hc and im mainly focusing on the bits we have in canon.
I’ll probably expand on this part in a bit, but I think it’d be the Epic Sanses (and maybe even the Abyss Team) that teach Color to live for himself and what he wants—and he goes on to use that to help Killer.

Revised Merging Timelines Chapter Five
(TW: hinted suicidal thoughts, but it's not specifically said, just insinuated. ** will mark the beginning and end of where it's mentioned.
"BROTHER... PLEASE... STOP..." Papyrus was on the ground, a blue bone stabbing into his chest, through his battle armor, two white bones stabbing through his left elbow and right leg, "IT HURTS..."
Sans stood over him, sad and desperate, not wanting to do this but not having a choice. He hated seeing his little brother like this. The one monster he wanted to protect at all costs, but unfortunately, this was the only way he could protect him... He'd killed everyone else, and the human would be getting here soon. He wanted to make this quick, not just to beat the brat to the kill, but to put a quick end to his brother's suffering. He didn't even deserve to know what it felt like, much less experience it for long... But Sans was hesitant on ending his life...
"shhh pap... it-it'll be over soon." Sans attempted to reassure his brother.... and himself...
"YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS!" Papyrus exclaimed, sad and desperate.
"i... i do, pap... the human... .... i need more lv... ... to sto-" Sans was cut off by his brother, who attempted to reason with him.
"WE CAN WORK TOGETHER!" Papyrus shouted, pleading, "IF.... IF WE SHOW THEM KINDNESS... M-MAYBE... THEY... ... WOULDN'T WANT TO KILL ANYMORE.. AND... AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO EITHER..." Sans's left fist clenched next to him. Sans was silent, looking at him mournfully. "LET ME HELP YOU, SANS!"
"you don't understand!" Sans snapped, frustrated, fighting with himself and desperate for Papyrus to understand, for someone to understand, "the human... ... they'll kill you... over, and over,.. and over, and.. ... everyone... ... and... so... i will uh... ... stop that... ... besides.... it'll be better to be killed by me instead... right?" Sans asked.
Papyrus looked down sadly, before looking back up at him, "B-BUT IT'S WRONG! YOU CAN DO BETTER! I- I'M HERE FOR YOU! WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS TOGETH-"
"ENOUGH!" Sans snapped, angered, left eyelight igniting in a purple flame as he summoned a Gaster Blaster, firing it at Papyrus.
He couldn't let himself break now; he had to do this. He didn't have a choice. This was the only way to get the pain and death and suffering to stop. It would be worth it, in the end, Sans just needed dust on his hands in order to be able to accomplish anything.... Even if some of the dust belonged to his brother...
Papyrus looked down sadly as the snow that had been disturbed from the blast cleared, and he said in acceptance, "IT'S OK. I KNOW THIS WAS HARD FOR YOU. RIGHT?" Half of Papyrus's face was missing, along with his left arm, his left hand laying on the ground, and everything past that was destroyed, the trees having gouges out the sides of their trunks where the blast disintegrated that part of the wood. A tear was coming from his right eye socket. Sans fell to his knees in horror, eyelights and previous anger vanishing as he started crying, "IF THIS'LL HELP YOU... THEN... I'M HAPPY."
"p-papyrus.. i-" Sans started, but Papyrus cut him off one last time as he turned to dust.
"SHH SANS. IT'S OK." Papyrus turned to dust, but his voice echoed out, "IT'S OK..."
Sans's LV rose up to 18, the weight of his final and most painful kill sinking in. Papyrus's scarf fluttered to the ground, Sans reaching out to it with a shaky hand, gingerly grabbing it. Guilt and grief ripped through his mind and sour, tears in his eye sockets as he pulled the fabric close, holding it to his chest as tremors and sobs escaped him, breath hitching as he felt something in his mind snap. Soft huffs of laughter tore out of him, eventually escalating into hysterical and loud laughs and guffaws mixed with his sobs, his skull rearing back as he laughed even harder, and everything faded to black.
Sans woke up to the sound of the sobbing and laughing still coming from him, albeit quietly, and he realized he was making that noise. He was on his knees on the floor, holding some of his sheets to his chest as tears raced from his eye sockets, and as he regained awareness, the quiet noises slowly stopped, Sans getting a grip on himself and quieting down. He took a few shaky breaths, dropping the sheets and looking around, seeing Killer across the room on his right, his back turned to Sans. Sans was surprised as Killer's shoulders shook a bit, and Sans heard a sniffle. Was Killer crying?... Killer looked at him, his left eyelight lit, though it was like Sans's regular blue and cyan eye, but a dull gray, and the Broken Determination was coming from his sockets quicker, though it seemed more watery and a bit transparent.
"k-killer?" Sans asked, surprised by what he was seeing.
Killer didn't respond, and Sans saw a glimpse of his regularly target soul being a red and white upside-down heart, and it started to spasm and twist. Killer grimaced a bit as it happened, and moments later it was a target again, the eyelight flickering before vanishing, his breathing evening out as the Broken Determination regained it's regular viscosity.
"killer?" Sans asked again.
'i'm fine.' Killer replied, glancing over at him.
'i'm sorry.' A new voice spoke up to Sans's left, drawing his attention.
Sans looked over to his left, seeing who at first looked like himself, but with his hood up, and a dusty and tattered red scarf around his neck. Upon closer inspection, though, he was also covered in dust. His clothes were practically dyed that way in some spots, especially by his hands and slippers, and he was looking down at the ground, looking guilty and remorseful.
'so, you're the new guy, huh?' Killer asked, appearing next to him, causing the new Sans to look up at him, 'name's-'
'killer. i know.' He said, tone bitter as he sent a glare Killer's way.
'not my biggest fan, huh?' Killer asked.
'not of a dirty brother killer like you.'
'look who's talking.' Killer smirked.
'shut up.'
'i'm ok on that.' Killer asked, receiving a scowl, Killer blowing a raspberry at him in response.
'how did you know his name?' Sans asked, drawing the new Sans's attention.
'i've been in your head since the last reset, just didn't announce myself, mainly seeing what i was dealing with here, and from the looks of it, it's a lot. you're called lucky, right?'
'yeah, he calls me that, but sans is fine too.' Sans replied.
'. . . alright. i'd rather not use a nickname he came up with, anyways.'
'i feel offended.' Killer said sarcastically.
'that was my intention.' He replied.
'. . . i like you. you're fun.' Killer smirked, receiving a middle finger in response.
'killer... knock it off.' Sans sighed, before redirecting his focus at the new version of him in his head, 'so uh... is there something we should call you?'
The new version of him shrugged, unsure, 'my name's sans, but that probably won't really work here. you got any suggestions?' Killer went to speak, but he gave Killer a harsh glare, eyelights flashing red and cyan with anger, 'not from you.'
Killer pouted at him, clearly messing with him, and he rolled his eyelights in irritation.
'what about dust?' Sans asked, too lazy to come up with anything else.
'dust?'
'it's to the point and uh...' Sans trailed off.
'too lazy to think of something else?' He asked with a small smirk.
'heh... yeah...' Sans rubbed the back of his skull.
'. . . it'll work, i guess...' Dust sighed.
'well then it looks like it's settled. nice to meet ya, dust.' Killer smirked, moving to sit next to him, and Dust pointedly looked away from him, 'oh c'mon! you can at least shake my hand, pal. we're in this together, might as well attempt to get along.'
'i'll pass.' Dust refused, and Killer sighed.
'please?~' Killer asked, nudging him a bit, and Dust swatted at him, glaring daggers at him.
'no.' Dust said flatlly.
'. . . you'll come around.' Killer smirked.
'like hell i will.' Dust scoffed, getting up and walking away from him, leaving a small dust trail behind that faded moments later.
Sans sighed, glancing at Killer before looking over at Dust, 'dust, listen, i uh... i know you're angry at killer-'
'understatement of the damn year.' Dust muttered.
'. . . fine. i know you're pissed at killer, and i am too, i mean he killed everyone, that's a very valid reason to be upset... but i'm also upset with you. you killed everyone too.' Sans said.
'for different reasons.' Dust pointed out.
'on the surface, yes, but when you simplify it, it all boils down to you both wanting the loop to stop.' Sans told him, and Dust went quiet, 'i've seen glimpses at both of your pasts. i saw killer fighting against the kid for years, and i know how much he was put through. i mean hell, i'm still suffering from what i saw; it's affecting me too. i also saw you, and i saw what you went through before killing everyone. i'm the neutral party here, and honestly? i think your anger and hate towards killer is partially you redirecting your anger at yourself.'
'. . .' Dust stayed silent, glancing off to the side before sighing, 'i still hate him.'
'yeah, i know, but will you consider attempting to restrain your anger here? like it or not, you're stuck here, and so is he. do you want to spend this whole time being pissed off at him, or do you want to have mercy on yourself and cut him some slack?'
'. . . i don't deserve mercy, and if i did, i still wouldn't lower myself to getting along with him.' Dust scowled. Sans sighed, exchanging a small look with Killer, Dust saying 'i saw that!'
Sans sighed again, looking back over at Dust, and he asked, 'can you at least consider it?'
'yeah, there's no point in resisting it. i'll win you over eventually.' Killer smirked.
'over my dead body.' Dust grumbled.
'that can be arranged~'
'guys!' Sans snapped, glaring between both of them as they looked at him, 'knock it off!'
'. . . i still hate him.'
'i still like pissing him off.'
'you existing does that, you don't have to do much.'
'gives me a good way to be lazy.'
'. . .' Dust looked over at Sans, asking, 'is he always this much of a pain?'
'sometimes he's worse. he'd probably stop if he stopped getting so much of a rise out of you, though.' Sans answered.
'. . . damnit.' Dust sighed, glaring at Killer, 'fine. to spite you, i'll hate you in silence.'
'knew you'd come around~'
'this is not me coming around, you di-!'
'woah woah woah, dusty, keep it pg!' Killer laughed.
Dust tackled Killer, the two of them wrestling on the floor, and Sans groaned, pinching the bridge of his nasal cavity. This was a complete and utter nightmare. Dust was fighting with anger, and Killer was defending in amusement, and Sans sighed, letting them fight it out, certain Dust would stop after a few minutes...
Ten minutes later, Dust and Killer had finally stopped, Dust glaring at Killer and Killer smirking at Dust, Sans standing between them, glaring at both of them with his arms outstretched, palms towards both of them. Dust finally seemed less hostile after a few moments, Killer not antagonizing him as much after a firm glare from Sans, and Sans sighed again, lowering his arms back to his side.
'will you both please stop it? i don't want to deal with you two fighting the whole damn timeline, and i'd prefer if you could resolve this before papyrus comes in to wake me up for breakfast!' Sans requested.
'ugh, i'd rather go to grillby's than you eat that pasta again...' Killer grimaced.
'paps' cooking isn't that bad...' Dust defended, crossing his arms.
'dust, it's horrible.' Killer deadpanned, and Sans had to agree, nodding slightly with a bit of a grimace on his face.
'it's not so horrible after you don't eat anything in order to give yourself more time to kill everyone before the human can, and after you're done, you don't want anything else other than your little brother's pasta he always cooks for you because he wants you to be fed and taken care of even though you don't deserve it... eventually the only thing you want is that 'crappy pasta', if only just one more time.' Dust said, and Sans looked down, cyan and yellow tears forming in his eye sockets.
'damn, dust. way to be a buzzkill.' Killer muttered.
'no, he... he's right. damn it he's right...' Sans thought before looking over at Dust. 'how.. how many? how many times did you...?'
'too many. even once was too many times but i.. i couldn't stop. not because i got addicted to lv or enjoyed killing like killer over there, but because it was the closest i'd ever gotten to winning... it made the fight harder for them, they... they died so many times, i... i needed to keep going, i couldn't stop until they gave up.' Dust said, 'but since i'm here now... i don't have to kill anyone, and that is so much of a relief...'
'and you... uh... what was your plan after you won?' Sans asked, 'if you couldn't reset.'
**
'if i couldn't reset, i'd find out why not and how to fix that issue. if it couldn't be fixed, if there was nothing left for me to do... well... monsters would go extinct with me.' Dust said.
Sans's eye sockets widened as he asked out loud in shock, "you... you don't mean.."
'yeah. i would burn in hell like i deserve while everyone is resting in peace. seems about right.' Dust replied, and Sans looked at him sadly.
'you... you don't deserve that, dust. i mean sure, killing everyone was horrible, but your soul was in the right place. you did everything else you could think of to stop them, there was nothing else that could be done. i felt your emotions, heard your thoughts... the only reason i'm not furious with both of you is because i know what you went through. i'm still angry, but... i understand.' Sans told him, 'you don't deserve to feel you should end your own life because of that.'
**
'. . . thanks. it uh... means a lot. hearing that come from someone's who technically me.' Dust thanked him, a bit awkward.
'you're welcome.' Sans replied.
'. . . . . i'll try getting along with killer. emphasis on try. i still hate him, but if you can attempt to sympathize with me and you do the same for him... i'll try doing that too.' Dust said after a moment, and Sans sighed in relief.
'thank you, dust.' Sans smiled.
'don't thank me, i'm still going to beat him up if he annoys me too much, and i still hate him.' Dust told him.
'i wouldn't expect any less.' Sans thought to him, chuckling a bit out loud.
'so we're cool?' Killer asked Dust.
'. . . i'll hate you in silence.' Dust relented.
'knew you'd come around~' Killer appeared in front of him, holding his hand out and wagging it a bit at Dust.
'don't push your luck. you're not the one nicknamed lucky here.' Dust glared, and Killer chuckled.
'heh. i still like you.' Killer smirked.
'and i still feel the opposite towards you.' Dust responded, and Killer chuckled.
Dust seemed to think about something for a moment, before looking at Sans, asking, 'hey sans? can i try something?'
"uh... sure i guess?" Sans replied, Dust getting up and walking over to him.
Dust reached him, hesitating for a moment, before grabbing San's wrist and pulling on it.
Dust looked down at his hands, clenching his fingers a bit as he tested to make sure he had control over the body, remembering what he'd watched happen the last timeline. Sans appeared across from him, Killer looking at him, seemingly a bit impressed but also primarily curious, and Dust rolled his eyelights. Dust pulled his hood up, pulling the fabric over his skull, finding a bit of comfort in it, along with the fact that he wasn't covered in dust right now.
He looked back at Sans before thinking, 'sorry, i just need to borrow this for a few minutes. i'm not killing anyone, i promise. you can have control back when i'm done.'
Dust teleported to the center of Snowdin, the action familiar to him in a way, and he started heading to the Snowdin Shop, seeing the purple rabbit starting to open it up for the day, like she usually did. Snow gusted past his face from a sudden wind, Dust momentarily tensing before relaxing, no dust staining his clothes or blowing into his face, though he did pull his hood up higher in response to the wind. Dust could feel his sins crawling up his spine remembering the dust mixed into the air by the time he was done with his... routine.
"Oh! Hiya Sans! What brings you by?" The shopkeeper asked as Dust approached, momentarily tensing from the sight of his hood before relaxing, looking at him curiously.
"hey, i was wondering if you by chance had any cinnamon bunnies yet?" Dust asked, and they may not be oatmeal and dinosaur eggs, but they were his second favorite, "i know it's early and all, but i was just curious if any were baked yet."
'you're getting him breakfast?' Sans questioned.
'yeah?' Dust replied.
'that's... really sw-'
'sappy. really sappy, dusty.'
'i was saying sweet, killer!'
'and i was saying sappy, lucky!'
Dust barely held back rolling his eyelights, schooling his expression with practiced ease.
"Huh? Well sure! Just finished the first batch for today. How many do you want?" The shopkeeper asked.
"could i buy two?" Dust questioned.
"Can do. That'll be 25G." The shopkeeper replied.
'that doesn't seem right, or maybe my math is wrong..'
'nah, that's only for one each.'
'that's what i thought!'
"i thought the price was 25 for each?" Dust asked in confusion.
'see, we can agree!'
'. . . only on basic known facts!!!'
"Early bird gets the worm. It's on the house." The shopkeeper told him.
Dust was stunned for a moment, shocked at the kindness, before paying and thanking her, "thank you... i appreciate it."
"You're welcome." The shopkeeper replied, getting a bag and putting two cinnamon bunnies in it, and handing it to him. "See you around."
"you too." Dust nodded, teleporting to the kitchen and putting the bag on the counter.
Dust saw Sans appear next to the bag, glancing at him as he grabbed a plate from the cabinet, putting the  cinnamon bunnies on it. The cinnamon bunnies were still warm, nearly fresh out of the oven. Dust grabbed a small tray, putting the plate on it and teleporting upstairs to Papyrus's room. Dust put the tray next to Papyrus's bed on the table with the action figures on it, and turned around to leave when he heard movement behind him. Dust looked over his shoulder, seeing Papyrus waking up.
"SANS?" Papyrus asked, stretching and yawning.
"mornin', paps." Dust greeted, guilt swimming in his soul, "i gotcha somethin'."
Papyrus looked at him curiously, before sitting up and seeing the tray. His eye sockets widened a bit in surprise before looking at him with a smile.
"YOU... GOT ME THESE?" Papyrus asked.
"yeah. they're still your favorite, right?" Dust asked, worried he'd remembered wrong. His memory about things before the Resets was... not very good.
"YES! YES THEY ARE! THANK YOU, BROTHER! I MUST ASK, THOUGH. WHAT BROUGHT THIS ON?" Papyrus questioned, "IT'S... BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOU'VE BEEN UP BEFORE ME TO GET BREAKFAST."
Dust knew it was because Papyrus purposely got up early to make breakfast, but still...
"i just felt like gettin' ya somethin'. you always make me breakfast, so i figured i could return the favor, y'know?" Dust replied.
"... THANK YOU, BROTHER! YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS, BUT I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT YOU PUT THOUGHT INTO THIS AND GOT ME SOMETHING. IT MEANS A LOT TO ME." Papyrus thanked him, grabbing a cinnamon bunny, biting into it, and he looked happy about the taste.
Dust has had to do a lot of things in his timeline, a lot of which he hated himself for, primarily because he had started to like it, but this... this was something he felt he had to do because he wanted to. He wanted to do something here other than hurt or kill, and if given the chance in his timeline, he would stop killing everyone. He didn't want to do it in the first place, and the LV wasn't influencing his thoughts here... and he was feeling more vulnerable that he had in a long time.
Dust had to blink a bit, purple tears welling up on the bottoms of his eye sockets, and he replied, smiling a bit, "you're welcome, bro."
Papyrus finished the cinnamon bunny, looking down at the second one and holding it out to Dust, smiling at him.
"HERE. I WANT YOU TO HAVE THIS, BROTHER." Papyrus told him.
"what?... paps, i-" Dust started, but Papyrus cut him off.
"NO BUTS, SANS. HERE. I INSIST." Papyrus said.
Dust hesitated before accepting it with a shaking hand, eyelights trembling a bit as he stared at it for a moment. He was fighting back so many emotions right now; sadness, grief, gratefulness, and just... regret. Guilt. Dust had missed moments like this, of not having to kill or fight, just.... be able to have peace... Dust sat down next to Papyrus, looking at the cinnamon bunny, hesitating with a few purple tears in his eye sockets.
He didn't deserve kindness anymore, especially not from his brother, not after what he'd done to him so many times now. He was capable of showing it; to try making up for his actions, but when that kindness was returned... it was a tidal wave of emotions that Dust didn't know how to handle or feel. The pain that struck his soul with every smile, every happy word, every positive emotions expressed towards him was nearly unbearable. He'd grown so used to pleas for mercy that he couldn't give them, as not only would they die anyways, they would die a slower death than he would give them, and when he heard something other than that without the imminent threat of the human... it hurt.
"BROTHER? ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" Papyrus asked after Dust stared at it for a bit. Dust was hiding his face behind the angle of his skull, hood covering up the purple tears threatening to fall. Papyrus asked more gently, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, "SANS?"
That was the last straw. Dust dropped the pastry on the tray, clinging to Papyrus's side, the tears falling free as he cried into the side of Papyrus's armor. Dust's arms were wrapped around him, grip tight but fragile, like he'd turn to dust if he used too much strength, and so many times he had... Papyrus seemed surprised, and he hugged Dust back, wrapping an arm around him, pulling him closer, which only made Dust break even more. Dust cried harder, the purple tears pouring from his eye sockets and falling down his face, hitting Papyrus's armor, trickling down it like raindrops down a window.
"i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm so sorry.." Dust cried, trembling and apologizing rapidly, the words tumbling out of his mouth.
"SANS, SHHHHHH... YOU HAVE NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR, BROTHER. WHAT'S WRONG? DID SOMETHING HAPPEN?" Papyrus asked, worried.
"i... i..." Dust couldn't get the words out between sobs, shoulders trembling as his breathing hitched.
"IT'S OK, SANS... TAKE YOUR TIME." Papyrus reassured him, rubbing his back comfortingly.
Dust cried for a few more minutes, and he could hear Sans and Killer talking, but he wasn't paying them any mind. He couldn't even think, much less pay attention to their chatter. The next few minutes were a bit of a blur, with Dust crying into Papyrus's armor and letting himself break down, which he'd been needing to do for so long now. This ability to show vulnerability... it was nice... he didn't know how many opportunities he would get to do this, so he was taking this one; he wasn't passing up this chance to let some of the pain out.
After the few minutes had past, Dust had settled down, and Papyrus gently pulled him away so he could look at his face. Papyrus saw Dust's cyan and red eyelights, and while he had tensed up and seemed a bit started, the expression was gone as soon as it appeared.
"SANS, IT'S OK. EVERYTHING IS ALRIGHT, I PROMISE YOU. YOU DID NOTHING WRONG, BROTHER. IT'S OK. YOU'RE ALRIGHT." Papyrus reassured, and Dust wiped at the tears, getting the tears on his sleeves. "DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?"
Dust shook his head after a moment. "no... not right now. just... can we stay like this for a while?" Dust asked.
"OF COURSE, BROTHER." Papyrus replied, and Dust sat against him, treasuring every single second of this. He never thought he'd get the chance to do this again.
Papyrus grabbed the cinnamon bunny, holding it out to Dust, looking at him kindly, and Dust couldn't say no to that damn face. Dust accepted it, nibbling at it despite not really feeling hungry at first, before eating a bit more quickly once his appetite struck him after a few small bites. Dust's eyelights turned white again, and they sat there for a while, Papyrus offering silent and supportive comfort, just being there for him, and Dust accepting it gratefully. Dust... for the first time in... he couldn't even remember when... felt happy...
That is, until he saw something through Papyrus's window, and he teleported over to it, looking out it closely. It was the human, stumbling through the snow, something shiny in their hand, and Dust's eye sockets narrowed as he watched them, knowing what that gait meant. Sans really wasn't lucky right now; the nickname was almost ironic or sarcastic now. Actually, Sans might be lucky, considering Dust could save everyone here, the human probably unaware of how to get to everyone once they were saved...
"SANS?" Papyrus asked, and Dust looked behind him.
"we need to go. right now." Dust told him.
'ah crap, the brat's on a killing spree...' Killer muttered.
'this must be one of the ones frisk mentioned last timeline. karter or iggy.'
'they're trouble either way, and i'm about to really piss them off.' Dust wasn't at all bothered by the anger he was about to cause them.
'how?' Killer asked, curious.
Dust teleported back to Papyrus, replying to Killer, 'because i'm about to save everyone.' before teleporting them both to the True Lab. This was going to be a nice change in pace, being able to save everyone again... and the human would have no idea how to get past his plan.
