The thought that Madam Gretel is very, VERY careful in hiding who she actually is, but there's still things that stand out; maybe she still carries a case, but it's on her back; or even the fact she can still 'Read', but tries to hide it; maybe she has a broken lantern she 'keeps as a memory'; or even just something like her attire, maybe wearing an old, tattered brown coat that oddly resembles Hofmann's...

Gretel is very careful; but she forgets how analytical she was even back then...

I think there's many more things that give Marcus away. Not quickly, and they're very scattered and by themselves people wouldn't bat an eye, but this is Young Marcus and Madam Hoffman we're talking about.

Things like getting too close to Hoffman and valuing her as if she's her own mother (few situations but enough to count), pretending to be human but having to show a permit to use arcanum in secret to Mr. Karl (he ran his mouth when there was only Madam Hoffman)

Personality wise, she hasn't changed much. She's still a bit shy and can't communicate properly with others so she, much like her younger self, relies a lot on Madam Hoffman.

These things are few, of course, and even though Gretel is very careful not to act too much like her younger self, Hoffman knows better.

Either way, for Young Marcus, these personality things are not obvious, but clothes are.

A stain on her coat, identical to Madam Hoffman's (both the coat and the stain), an identical case to her own just more worn out, similar accent as hers despite faking it (Marcus is still a girl failure I'm sorry, you may have changed a lot and be older, but some things cannot be left behind)

The worst part is that some of her accessories, like her case, have her name engraved after an accident with mixing up luggage, if Young Marcus ever tried to acquire Gretel's case by an exchange (she would let's be real), she would find out.

It's not enough to direct that Gretel is older Marcus, but enough to point out that Gretel is not from this time period or who she claims to be.

Been traveling quite a bit this summer. Often I would eat out while traveling and man eating out is expensive and I've noticed that often the quality just doesn't equal the rising prices, even at greasy spoons like fast food, Sheetz, and Wawa.

So I bought one of these wood gasifier camping stoves. This little thing is literally fueled by nothing more than small sticks and twigs. The idea is to take this with me, and come lunch time stop at a rest stop, state park, picnic area, etc that allows grilling and just grill up a burger or two or cook up a good camping pie, or make breakfast, whatever. Plus there are some beaches I go to along lake Erie where fires are allowed. Also I think they're really neat. Mine cost around $16 or $17 dollars and I bought two.

The way he was talking about the ondol, it kind of sounds like a wood gasifier stove: This type of stove uses a two-stage combustion process to burn wood gas (syngas) after the initial burn, producing a very clean flame with minimal emissions. Fun Fact: The wood gasifier system was used in cars, trucks, and even tractors during fuel shortages, especially in World War II. These vehicles ran on wood gas (syngas), which was produced by partially burning wood or charcoal in a gasifier attached to the vehicle.

How he treated the wood is accurate, but the soybean oil keeps giving me whiplash because I’m used to people from Europe using linseed oil.

hi i had some thoughts about your Bug Beauty Standards™ post and i’m not super sure how they compare to the additions but here we go

anyway so basically. i think shininess or just giving off light could be considered attractive. yes gorgeous husk is round but they’re ALSO either sparkly or literally give off a golden glow

when you buy out salubra’s shop, she says “You're even more the attractive bug, clad in all those wonderful, sparkling things.” key word: sparkling

for gpz, one of the most noticeable features to me, at least, is the shiny thingamabob on his chest. flukemarm, who we know is canonically… yknow… also seems to have a bit of a reflective shine on her… lips(?)

this probably means that shiny = attractive, and might also mean that giving off light is attractive too by extension?

which would make wl (big, gives off light, somewhat round) and radi (big, gives off light, less round than wl but softer features overall than, say, pk) conventionally attractive

also considering how king’s idol is rounder than pk, i think pk may or may not have been gasified by his followers

Regarding the charms and the pin on GPZ's chest, in that case, I suppose the attractiveness would come from how they reflect light. Which I think is giving me way too much of an opportunity to analyze GPZ (not able to give off light himself, just a mere mimicry of actual light)

But yeah!! Shiny/giving off light could be considered attractive - again, Bretta specifically mentions Ghost's glow in her diary entries - that would make plenty of sense!

But it's ALSO. making me think. Of how funny it is.
