“The Armada” is one of the greatest works of historical writing ever made.

Seriously, the opening chapter is more captivating and detailed than most literature. Garrett Mattingly has the balls to write about something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what the book’s title would suggest, while at the same time setting up the rest of the book right under the readers’ noses. Highly recommend at least reading the opening chapter to anyone, even if they aren’t that interested in history.
