📽️ Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
I watched this when it was in theaters (if that tells you how far behind I am in writing reviews). I have never read the book, and all I knew about the story was that it was super popular and everyone was super excited for the movie. I had no idea what I was in for. I still haven’t read the book, so I can’t attest to the movie’s accuracy. But I can tell you that this movie was absolutely amazing. I was never bored, even though there were many parts with not much action. I’ve heard that the book is different, so I can update this once I’ve read the book. But as someone who has not read the book, I absolutely loved the movie. I honestly had no idea how it was going to end, but I think the ending was the perfect conclusion. This movie is great.
Sex/nudity: 3/10 (several sex scenes with partial nudity, no genitalia shown, partial breasts shown)
Language: 2/10 (pretty mild, no f-words)
Violence: 4/10 (a lot of abuse, dead body, attempted rape)
Overall rating: 8/10

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Женитьба, пожалуй, с Яриком. Выглядит как суровый лесоруб, но в душе добряк и просто надежный мужик)) жаль что гей
Tumblr media

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING 2022
No, I never hated them. They hated me. They laughed at me. They left me. They harassed me. They attacked me. You want me to beg for my life? I don't have it in me. I won't. I will not offer myself up. They can make their decision. But they're not deciding anything about me. It's them. They're judging themselves.

Record Store Day may have officially come and gone, but it's ALWAYS Record Store Day at Dodds Record Shop! Garret chats with its owner, Reverend Charles Preston Smith, about his personal history in music - from his obsession with 80's metal to the founding of the PotatoeBabies -, the various transitions and stages of the shop itself, including it's pre-World War II days to the shop and museum it is today, what he looks for in records and memorabilia, and Garret shows off his amazing negotiation skills by haggling with the good Reverend over the price of a Justin Bieber alarm clock!
NOTE: Because nothing can ever be perfect, there is a slight buzz in the background of the recording. I have tried my best to fix this. I have no idea how this happened, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with all the cursed Neil Diamond albums that inhabit the shop - Love, Garret
Recorded at Dodds Record Shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, April 29th, 2023.
Intro Song: “Summer Nights" by A Sunken Ship Irony
Outro Song: "Vinyl" by PotatoeBabies
All songs used with permission.

a community comic about the "Laws of Robotics and Party Rights" episode without the ipads
transcript:
Warden: Dean Craig Pelton do you accept responsability for any damage incurred by hiring a felon?
Dean: I do
Warden: Willy siebert smith do you accept that the 13th amendment abolished slavery for everyone but convicts and that we have no choice but to pay you 13 cents per hour or less
Willy: I do
Warden: Then let us make official this symbolic-
Jeff: Hold it. Dean, I agree there's no reason you shouldn't give this guy my job
Dean: Save it jeffrey, I don't want to hear it
Jeff: But don't do it before I tell you some things that I've been getting away with not saying
Willy: Will somebody get this maniac
Warden: Quiet, Willy, let's do this by prison rules. Say what you have to say
Jeff: Dean. I like my job. I don't mind coming to work here. I feel kind of guilty when I pretend to be sick. And I try to steal as little as possible, just the basics - pens, coffee filters, toilet paper, and one time a overhead projector and a roll of carpet. But I don't lead you on, and I never will. Because I'm not just a pretty face that murders people and tells you what you want to hear. I'm less than that. I'm a gorgeous face that works for you and considers you a friend
Dean: Oh, Jeffrey
Warden: Now, to be fair, you guys know Willy is an innocent man, right?
Willy: You shut your mouth, warden!
Warden: No, it's true, his appeal is in motion, there's new dna evidence. He's a good fellow. wrongfully convicted
Dean: You're… not a murderer?
Willy: I can explain
Jeff: Hahaha, oh how the mighty have fallen
Willy: You son of a bitch!
Dean: Wait! Let's do this by community college rules
Students: Fight! Fight! Fight!
Dean: It's so violent
Jeff: Is this what you've got? Here's what I got. Come on! Let's do it
Dean: Ah! Jeffrey!
Willy: Now who's fallen?
Dean: Hey, Willy
Jeff: Thanks, dean. Dean. Deaaan. Oh, come on
Garret: Way to go mister Winger! Way to go!
Jeff: Everybody! I am not participating in this!

Readers,
Though the Competition was Fierce, I and my Family have Only So Much Time in which we are Free to Visit with the Illustrious Circles of Firenze; We sent our Deepest Regrets to Most, and, as Directed, accepted the Invitation of that Lady of Letters, B.G. Raiskaya. (Though, it should be Mentioned for Posterity's Sake, she directs us All to refer to her as B-- Goncharovna, as one might refer to a Polite Friend as Miss Smith.)
The Poetess keeps herself Fashionably in an Old Country House, Some Distance from the Bustle of the City; For this Reason, I will be Unable, for the Period of our Stay, to write this Weekly Missive as you have no Doubt grown Accustomed to see. The Palace--for so it can be Comfortably Called--appears in Illustrations as Quite the Picturesque, Imposing Thing. One could Readily imagine, if One were of the Fanciful and Romantic Disposition, those Oppressed Heroines of Radcliffe or Walpole roaming its Gloomy Halls. B-- Goncharovna herself claims that the Garret-room in which she conducts her Business of Writing contains the Spectre of Such a Person. It remains to be Seen.
On our Return, Readers, I am Certain to have a Great Deal to relay to you of this Period in our Continental Adventure. I wish you All a Restful and Healthy Spring, as it rises Over the World!

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it will hear an appeal that could upend hundreds of charges stemming from the Capitol riot, including against former President Donald Trump.
The justices will review an appellate ruling that revived a charge against three defendants accused of obstruction of an official proceeding. The charge refers to the disruption of Congress' certification of Joe Biden's 2020 presidential election victory over Trump.
That's among four counts brought against Trump in special counsel Jack Smith's case that accuses the 2024 Republican presidential primary front-runner of conspiring to overturn the results of his election loss. Trump is also charged with conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.
The court's decision to weigh in on the obstruction charge could threaten the start of Trump's trial, currently scheduled for March 4. The justices separately are considering whether to rule quickly on Trump's claim that he can't be prosecuted for actions taken within his role as president. A federal judge already has rejected that argument.
The Supreme Court will hear arguments in March or April, with a decision expected by early summer.
The obstruction charge, which carries up to 20 years behind bars, has been brought against more than 300 defendants and is among the most widely used felony charges brought in the massive federal prosecution following the deadly insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in a bid to keep Biden, a Democrat, from taking the White House.
At least 152 people have been convicted at trial or pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding, and at least 108 of them have been sentenced, according to an Associated Press review of court records.
A lower court judge had dismissed the charge against Joseph Fischer, a former Pennsylvania police officer, and two other defendants, ruling it didn’t cover their conduct. The justices agreed to hear the appeal filed by lawyers for Fischer, who is facing a seven-count indictment for his actions on Jan. 6, including the obstruction charge.
The other defendants are Edward Jacob Lang, of New York’s Hudson Valley, and Garret Miller, who has since pleaded guilty to other charges and was sentenced to 38 months in prison. Miller, who’s from the Dallas area, could still face prosecution on the obstruction charge.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols found that prosecutors stretched the law beyond its scope to inappropriately apply it in these cases. Nichols ruled that a defendant must have taken “some action with respect to a document, record or other object” to obstruct an official proceeding under the law.
The Justice Department challenged that ruling, and the appeals court in Washington agreed with prosecutors in April that Nichols’ interpretation of the law was too limited.
Other defendants, including Trump, are separately challenging the use of the charge.
More than 1,200 people have been charged with federal crimes stemming from the riot, and more than 700 defendants have pleaded guilty.

Another Tylvinian Tale update
Tumblr media
Additions to the cast! Some old characters, finally seeing the light of day!
Short little character bios below the cut, for those who want to know ahead of time! Don't worry, this isn't all there is to these folks, just the cliff notes. You'll have to play the game to learn more~
Super quick summaries here above the cut:
Nivo - flying fox bat, 22, AMAB, pupgender, it/its
Krieger - Heavusi, 56 (chronologically)/30-ish (physically), AMAB, agender, he/him
Savannah Peyton - Lynx, 27, AFAB, omnigender, ae/aer
Sasha Nillici - Bluejay, 19, AMAB, post-op transfem, they/them
Pax - Skink, 23, AGAB unknown, non-binary, they/them
Garret - Tiger, 46, AMAB, cisgender, he/him
And yes...ALL of these characters are romanceable and/or befriendable
Nivo, the flying fox bat
22 years old, AMAB, pupgender, prefers it/its but will answer comfortably to they/them as well. Playful, flirty, and all-around cutesy type who has a habit of biting the things he loves (affectionately), but actually has next to no social skills besides being cute. With a head full of fluff and a heart of gold, Nivo is sweet and affectionate to everyone he meets.
Krieger, the Heavusi
56 years old (Heavusi biology, they're in the prime for a good 30-40 years, he's basically early 30s, biologically), AMAB, agender, uses he/him for simplicity's sake but has no attachment to any pronouns. Calm and collected, often smiling, and a very hard worker. He owns a smithing workshop in town, and tries to keep out of the way. He prefers a night in over a night out and enjoys the simpler things in life, like the warmth of a fireplace in winter and the twinkle of the stars on a clear night, far more than the luxuries of the modern age.
Savannah Peyton, the lynx
27 years old, AFAB, omnigender, prefers ae/aer. Passionate and dedicated to aer work, Savannah is always eager to jump into the fray, especially if "the fray" involves the possibility of a good story to tell later on. An investigative reporter, aer work suits aer well and gives ample opportunity to chase the dreams Savannah has longed for since childhood...
Sasha Nillici, the bluejay
19 years old, AMAB, transgender (post-op), prefers they/them. Hot-tempered but generally passive, they have a habit of getting frustrated more than angry. They love video games and can often be found at the arcade, spending the money earned at their job as a carhop at the drive-in restaurant in town. They're always eager to share their knowledge of games and quickly find themselves fascinated when someone else has game knowledge of their own.
Pax, the skink
23 years old, a̴͕̭͗̓͝s̶̫̙̺̋̔s̸̢̯͚͗̓̄̌̈́̀͆̊̽͠i̶͎̘͍̮͇͑ͅg̷̢͖̥̪̰̖̥̣̙͆̓͜͝n̶͖͓̓ę̵̤̼̞̻̯̻͇͋ͅd̸̛̞̜͇̏̔́̿͆ ̷̧̤͕̖̰̞͎̞̞̳̓̈́́̆̐̐̏̚͝ģ̶͎̩͈̳̘̥̀̓͂e̵̳̽͗͠ņ̶̹́̌̃d̸͓͙͔̻̯̀ę̷̧̘͈̯̭͐̉̒̄͌͂̕͝ř̷̦̥͉̞̪͎̂͌̅̊̔̔̕͠͝ ̶̥̤̞̭̒͒͌̇͗̓̀͝͠͝ä̶̡͙̫͎̯́̄̒̎͝t̵̻̎̆͒͘ ̵͕͖͙̞̠̘̭́̉͊̒͂̏͊̏b̷̧̼̭̜̹̺̹̰͕̍̈́̉͠i̷̧͕̺͕̦͌̇͗̇̑r̵̡̛͈̜̜̖̩͉̞̥̱͑̾́̕̕͝͝ẗ̴̝̹̱̱̣͇́͗̊̍͜͝ẖ̶͔͉̽̀̈́̽̀͘̕͝ ̴̭̜̼̝̩̻̭̦̜̓̽̆́͋̾̑͜͠u̷͚̅̉͌̓̄̊n̸̢̤͈̱͛̀͜k̸̦̦̱͚͇̠̲̤̦͂̎̂̒̏̕ń̵̨̛̝͖̥̟̫͋͌̽̈́͛̐ơ̷̙̭̘̬͍̱͎͂̌͝͝w̶̙̖̯͑͠n̶̼͙̥̋̋̓̌̂͠͝., non-binary Exclusively uses they/them. Doesn't like gendered pronouns. A laidback, chaotic spirit, Pax is equally at home behind the desk of the movie store they work at, and behind the bars of a district jail cell. They are a bit of a punk, enjoying the thrills of urban exploration and general troublemaking with an almost zealous glee. Careful getting too close...They just might drag you into whatever mess they're getting into at the time~
Garret, the tiger
46 years old, AMAB, cisgender, prefers he/him but doesn't make a fuss as long as he knows you're referring to him. Soft-spoken and polite, but with a strong protective streak. He enjoys walking, working out, and loves to play hard, often found at the local sports fields playing football, baseball, lacrosse, pickleball, or whatever else he can talk his way into.

23 Republican Senators & 124 Congressmen signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court asking for a 50 state ban on mifepristone, a drug safer than tylenol that is standard treatment for abortion & miscarriages, "due to safety concerns". The brief DARES to argue that banning the life saving drug would save women from 'reproductive control'. (x) These 147 people would rather have women die of sepsis than let women control their own bodies. If your representatives are on this list, call them and tell their office you will be voting against them in the next election because they asked SCOTUS to throw the US medical drug system into chaos at the cost of American lives.

YA Books about 🇦🇹 Austria
Tumblr media
List of Austria books for the YA World Challenge.
It's been quite a while since I did a country-themed list. This one has been sitting in the drafts for a while.
I have discovered that YA books in English featuring Austria consist of only 3 categories:
WW2 (sometimes WW1)
Empress Sisi (interchangeable with Marie Antoinette or Nannerl Mozart)
Eva Ibbotson
And that's it. Well, I'm kidding, but it almost seems like it. Here's the little list I came up with. Feel free to suggest any I missed - I mostly search through Goodreads to find these so the list is prone to mistakes and omissions!
