Finished Gargoyles #1 last night and have so many thoughts!

Like first off, it’s good. Let’s get that clear. It’s REALLY good. I actually like this opening better than the SLG comics - which to to be clear, was very good, I just prefer Dynamite’s approach. It’s clear, it’s straightforward, it gives you all the information you need & nothing you don’t.

It’s smart, given the complicated mythos. It would be incredibly easy to bog things down with ten pages of backstory but they kept the story moving while carefully doling out these little tidbits of information outlining who everyone is & how they relate to each other. It makes a good refresher/update for anyone coming from the cartoon or SLG, or even if this is your first dip in the gargoyles universe.

Down to specifics, I can already see some tensions in the clan that may be expanded into larger story arcs later. Such as Othello & Goliath’s differing opinions of how to handle humans, or Lex’s resentment of the growing distance between him & his rookery brothers. Both totally organic & make absolute sense given their history & recent changes in the clan.

The revelation of Thailog as this arc’s villain was great - he’s one I always wanted to see more of in the series. Also, I’m gonna make a prediction here - Derek & Maggie’s baby is misdirection. I bet Thailog’s plan is to use the fuss over the birth as a distraction so he can steal Brooklyn & Katana’s egg. It just seems more in line with what he’d do. He’s never shown much of an interest in mutates, but he definitely likes exploiting his fellow gargoyles, the more vulnerable the better.

That said, I was delighted to see Maggie & Derek’s baby already arriving! I’ve always been curious to see how this particular storyline would turn out - and only had to wait 13 years for an answer! Can’t wait for #2!

I’m finally catching up on the new Gargoyles comic and I KNEW TONY WOULD HAVE A SISTER AND I KNEW WHAT THEY’D NAME HER I COULD FEEL IT IN MY BONES EVEN AS A KID WAY BACK WHEN WE WERE FIRST INTRODUCED TO TONY DRACON!

There is also an uncle.  He seems to be bad news.

Considering how Disney worked Puck into Gargoyles, I am LIVING for this! Yes, please!

What would actually rock is a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream where Puck and Philostrate were played as the same person.

Pros of this include:

Puck getting very nervous whenever he's telling Oberon that morning is coming, not because he's a fairy, but because he's gonna be late for his day job

Puck accidentally running on for Philostrate while still in fairy costume, doing a quick ohshit and running back off to do a speed-change really quick, then sauntering back on again like nothing happened

Theseus and Oberon being completely unaware of their shared assistant and Puck working very hard to keep it that way

It would make Philostrate dissing the players so much funnier either way, but if he was (not so) subtly trying to use reverse psychology on Theseus to get Bottom his big break? 10/10.

I think one fundamental part of Puck's character is that he isn't all that good at his job and i feel like this just adds more layers on that.
