Hmm 🤔…I genuinely think that 2D animation needs to have as much heart in it now just like it used to in the pre-2000s. There have been some interesting animated series (mostly anime tbh) that have really pushed the boundaries when it comes to animation but like…I feel like a lot of Western animation is holding back still due to the terrible ways that animators are treated. The same thing is unfortunately happening anywhere with big animation studios but I can only speak from an American perspective.

Like, I really think the animation industry needs to relax and focus on quality over quantity. They need to give everyone involved in the project enough time to rest and eat properly instead of trying to meet a ridiculous deadline. Especially, during pre-production which is when all of the planning of a series begins. That time is necessary so a team can have multiple plans on how to deal with any future snags in the overall animation process without breaking everyone down.

1. It’s a little unreasonable for everyone in a Middle Ages-esque fantasy to be perfectly literate, and writing with quills was considered legitimate labor! How well can your oc read and/or write? How detailed is their quest log/journal, if they keep one at all?

All three of them are literate and can read and write well. Niraen had formal education, as she was raised in Summerset and as the child of noble family it's expected that she be educated. She keeps a journal and keeps pretty detailed notes - she believes it's best that she remember things clearly and so her journal serves as a point of reference for her. As the years have gone by, however, she's let some details slip by for the sake of her own sanity.

Maggie was taught by her father as they lived on the move. Occasionally she'd have a tutor if they were in one place long enough, but it was mostly Gerard teaching her. She tends to prefer doodling and scribbling down the odd notes rather than keeping a journal. To do lists and 'things to steal' are more her thing.

As for Olivia, she was taught by her grandfather along with her brother. Her notes are meticulous, and she's learned how to write professionally for the sake of her cons. As a planner and business woman, she keeps meticulous notes that are very much encoded.

3. Does your oc have any kind of crafting skills that either aren’t in-game or don’t have as much importance in-game as they would in real life? (For example, can your oc sew or weave, etc? Are they skilled in any kind of art? Can they make jewelry or work glass? Are they musicians? etc)

Niraen and Maggie have picked up little skills here and there as part of adventuring. Repairing clothing and making resources by hand. Niraen learned how to play the lute to pass the time on voyages, and Maggie knows how to make things like noisemakers (usually for thieving purposes lol).

I can't think of any Olivia might have. She's not really a crafter.

11. What is your oc’s main source of income, if they have one besides plundering tombs and adventuring? If they’re mercenaries, are they part of a company? Does your oc own their own business, and if so, what is it?

Niraen had a stipend when she was an Eye of the Queen, but since she retired after Summerset, she's mostly made money through fulfilling crafting writs and going on adventures.

Maggie is still employed by the Covenant, serving as an agent and advisor for Emeric, so she still receives her stipend. She also makes money through the Thieves Guild and Antiquarian's Circle, travelling around picking pockets and digging up relics for study.

Olivia's business consultation business might be a scam, but she turns a legit profit through it as well. And sometimes she runs a heist with her fellow Nightingales and makes a tidy sum from the cut.

oh my gosh?? I'm having trouble forming the right words to express how much that means to me- to hear that my work is inspiring????? im just awestruck rn 😭😭😭 Man, I can't even say I learnt anywhere specifically or am formally trained in any way.... I'm an art school drop out I really just do lots of studying to one subject matter at a time, use lots and lots of references and ahhh just challenge myself more and step outside my comfort zone!
