You Still Have Me -A Rescue Team GoldRain Oneshot-
AO3 Link
This oneshot features Rescue Team GoldRain, the team I played as on my recent first walkthrough of PMD Blue Rescue Team: Toron the totodile (male hero) and Daniel the cyndaquil (male partner). A reminder that this includes:
Minor panic attack
Guilt
Vaguely suicidal thoughts
SPOILERS for the PMD Rescue Team games, so be cautious if you still haven't played it!
The night had come.
The landscape was painted dark, minus a small fireplace, lit by two fugitives in a cave. One, a spirited and headstrong cyndaquil, kept the fire burning. It has been a long arduous day. He had been so focused on doing his job that he realized it only then.
His partner. Where did he go?
As he went outside the cave, he spotted him.
A totodile, who formerly lived a normal human life, was standing on the edge of a giant rock over a cliff. It may have seemed as if he was looking at the beautiful landscape, but his eyes, mind, and even emotions were too lost in his thoughts.
He lowered his head as those thoughts took hold of him more and more, like easy prey. He could feel the tears form and his head shaking, trying to hold it with his arms. He could barely breathe from this. He-
He felt something touch his left shoulder. Toron quickly turned over, only to see him.
“Toron, are you okay?” said Daniel.
Toron felt a small wave of relief seeing his partner, but all the emotions from before came bursting in.
“Daniel… I… I don't know…”
“You should go back to the cave. There may be rescue teams around here who will attack undoubtedly if they see you.” said Daniel. But Toron didn't bother much and instead tilted his head to the side.
“... Hey. I did a great job keeping the fire going. The cave feels warm, I'm sure you'll love it!”
“...You go first. I’ll…” he tried to finish.
Daniel, being the stubborn yet caring Pokémon that he was, didn't let his partner's words sway him. He grabbed his right arm, trying to pull him back into the cave.
“Toron, come on! It's not your fault we’re stuck like this. Your body feels cold, I’ll keep you warm if you need to-”
“Get away from me!” he suddenly yelled as he turned around and pushed Daniel, causing him to fall on his back.
Toron’s furious face fell apart immediately, changing to one of pure shock as he processed what he had just done. Daniel, just as shocked as he was, could see the tears forming in his partner’s eyes.
Toron stifled a sob as his legs trembled, making him kneel. All those horrible thoughts. They were everywhere. They were the only truth.
The legend of Ninetales. Gardevoir’s curse. Gengar’s accusations.
Everyone, and everything, turning against him. Wanting him dead.
“This is all my fault! I'm the one who's causing all this mess!” he yelled with a broken voice.
He couldn't believe that he was that same awful human from the legend.
But at the same time, he thought this was his punishment. Being reborn into a wonderful new world, meeting lots of new friends, only to see all of it fall apart, because of his selfish act.
And then, there was Daniel.
His partner, the first Pokémon he met since he arrived in this world, and his closest friend. While he was stubborn, he deeply admired his resolution and courage to stand against almost everything.
His ultimate dream was to form the best rescue team there ever was. To be able to stand against evil. To be considered a hero.
And now, everyone wanted to kill him too. Just because he dragged him into his problems.
It was his fault.
“I ruined everything! I ruined your life! Your dream of being the best rescuer there was!” he yelled.
“Toron… stop-”
“You could have been everything you wanted if only I wasn’t such a horrible person… or even, if only I wasn't even here… THIS IS ALL MY FAULT! IF ONLY I-”
“I SAID STOP!!!” yelled Daniel, standing.
Toron’s breakdown came to a sudden end as he was surprised at the cyndaquil’s sudden outburst. His eyes were now filled with tears, and the circles on his back were on fire, as a sign of something wrong. Toron could see his partner's rather hurt expression as he slowly approached him. It was clear, he was going to attack him. He was going to get what he deserved all this time.
But it wasn't.
It was a hug. Daniel was hugging him as tightly as he could.
“I don't care what’s going on in your head right now. None of this is your fault!” Daniel said, his voice rough but sincere.
“How can you be so sure about that…?” The legend of Ninetales, Gengar's accusations-”
“Gengar is nothing but a jerk who simply wanted to get rid of us for his “world domination” stuff! And I know that you’re not the human in that myth!”
“And… and how can you be so sure?” Toron said, his voice sounding like a plea for an answer.
“Because…” Daniel paused for a moment as he searched for the right words. He pulled away and locked eyes with Toron.
“Because I know the real you. Even though we have no idea who you were before, I know everything about the real you, who you are now. I know that you were afraid of water at first, despite being a Totodile. I know how proud you were of helping Pokémon in need. I know how well we worked together as a team, fighting side by side and helping each other. I know how kind and sympathetic you can be with almost everyone. And I know that deep down, they all care about us and miss us.”
These words managed to strike something within Toron. He remembered how Team ACT let them run away. Thanks to Daniel, he could fully realize and appreciate how they genuinely cared about him. That they didn’t just feel simple pity.
"But most of all, Toron, I know that you are my best friend, and even if I regret becoming a fugitive, I did it for your sake. Because you’re my world, and I don’t regret at all having met and shared so many moments with someone as cool as you.” Daniel stated.
Daniel's words hit Toron harder than anything ever could. He fully realized that even if he got in trouble, even if the future seemed uncertain-
“No matter what comes next, you still have me, Toron.” he concluded.
Yeah, he still had him. Daniel the cyndaquil. His partner. His best friend. The Pokémon he loves the most.
Finally letting his tears flow, Toron returned the hug. The two partners clung to each other as tightly as they could, glad to simply be together.
Once they pulled away, Toron, chuckling through his tears, broke the silence.
“Where in the world did you learn to say such things?”
“Dunno, but I guess I could’ve been inspired by a softie like you.” teased Daniel.
The totodile laughed, caught back by the cyndaquil's response. They both returned to the cave, and Toron quickly laid down beside a wall to sleep. Daniel made sure the fire was still going before approaching his partner and cuddling by his side.
“Good night, Daniel. I love you.” said Toron, more grateful than ever.
“Love ya too, buddy.” Daniel replied as they let the comfort of being together lull them into a peaceful sleep. Together, they will do anything to survive until they clear their names.

When Dongfang Qingcang was young, he and his Charizard trained cruelly under his father's supervision, causing their love trees to die, allowing them to develop a bond based on the lack of feelings. His Charizard then mega-evolved in its X form and, together, they were thus able to develop the feared X-fire, which helped them to protect the Moon tribe. Their ability to use mega evolution was lost when their love trees were healed by Xiao Lan Hua. Later, in order to defeat Tai Sui, Dongfang Qingcang formed a different kind of bond with his Charizard, one based on love. It mega-evolved in his Y form, so that they could learn the more powerful Y-fire.

As a Zelda fan
Incoming overcomplicated reasoning for why this screenshot is INSANE (in a good way)
Gardevoir, you're a beast.
They never got the bomb bag, bow, Silver or Golden Scales, OR Slingshot (Four boxes on the left.) Meaning they skipped the Great Deku Tree (Easy,) Dodongo's Cavern, (Medium,) AND Jabu Jabu (Difficult.) Meaning either she SOMEHOW beat them without their key items or did Temple of Time door skip.
They have all three Swords, which requires talking to Medigoron's little brother as a child and coming back as an adult for the Giant's Knife, THEN doing an Adult Trade Sequence to get the Claim Check for the Biggoron's Sword. All without bombs??
They NEVER equipped ANYTHING to the C buttons because once you can you can't remove them.
Sadly they don't have the Mirror Shield 😔
They have the Kokiri Tunic, Zora Tunic, AND Goron Tunic, meaning they got a bottle of blue fire to unfreeze the King Zora, as well as head to Goron City and (Somehow without C items) got Link the Goron to give them the Goron Tunic.
They only have the Kokiri boots, meaning they haven't done Spirit Temple or Water Temple.
They only have THREE HEARTS meaning they skipped EVERY heart piece and heart container up to this point.
Damn Gardevoir, didn't know you were ZFG over here.

The SVU Bois with a firefighter S/O? And, if possible, said firefighter with water Pokémon and a healer Pokémon for injuries?
(The trainer cards, if you need to see the teams again--once again, I'll link all the pokemon to their pics/descriptions)
PS. I know when you put a mon back in their ball, the stat changes go away. I took some liberties.
CW: Fire
Olivia walked beside Rafael, both drinking their respective coffees as they idly chatted. It was a rare day where the most pressing matters were waiting on convictions or testimonies or interviews. A rare day where the two got to get lunch together and got for a short walk to breathe in some fresh air for once.
Rafael gave a little sniff, then looked to Olivia. "Is that--?"
"Fire," she replied, catching a whiff of the smoke. Her Gardevoir freed herself from her ball as she sensed people in distress. At the same time, Rafael's Sylveon also broke free. The pokemon both took off in the direction of the fire, Olivia and Rafael hot on their heels.
***
"Keep up that water gun, Buiz!" you called to your Buizel. He nodded in acknowledgement before sending a spray of water at the worst of the blaze. With your Buizel doing what he did best, you took your other pokeball and headed a little away from the chaos.
An apartment was currently engulfed in flames, and the fire was quickly spreading to other apartments. Firefighters--including your own team--were still evacuating the building, and you needed to be in there helping. The only issue was your Blissey; she was a phenomenal healer pokemon...as long as she didn't get overwhelmed. Blisseys were known to rush to anyone they sensed was sad, and with a building on fire, that was too much.
You let your Blissey out, and she was instantly looking distressed, wanting to go help. "Hey, hey, look at me, Bliss," you said softly. With great difficulty, she looked up at you. "Use Calm Mind, then we can go help."
Most trainers used Calm Mind to buff their special attack and defense, but you were a firefighter, not a trainer, and it was a way for Blissey to focus her mind and calm her restless spirit.
You saw how her eyes glazed over before sharpening. "Ready?" you asked, and she gave you a determined nod, no longer overwhelmed. The both of you turned and headed for the building's entrance; Buizel would be fine fighting the fires--it wasn't his first, and would surely not be his last.
Blissey was a little big for the hallways, especially with people heading in the opposite direction, so you put her back in her ball. You kicked in doors, looking for human life, and yelling at people to evacuate. But as soon as you turned down a hallway close to the fire, Blissey freed herself from her ball.
"Bliss!" you yelled, but it was too late; she had sensed something, and nothing would stop her now. You cursed before following--you had had that Blissey since she was a little Happiny, and you wouldn't abandon her now.
She bowled her way through debris into an apartment that was just starting to catch fire. One glance inside told you that the place above had burned already; the ceiling had collapsed. You followed your Blissey until she came to a stop. She leaned down to find a man, trapped under a chunk of ceiling. Before you could attempt to help, Blissey used Brick Break, shattering the debris in half.
She pulled him slightly away, and by the time you made it to them, she was already using Heal Pulse to help ease his pain.
"Good job," you praised before stooping to lift the man. Blissey obediently went back into her ball as you carried the man out. You radioed down to your team so that a stretcher would be ready for him, and you made your way back out of the building.
Just as you stepped out into the open space, a Sylveon ran up to you. Before you could ask about them--they didn't belong to your team--they placed their ribbons on the man you held. You had heard about Sylveon's ability to calm people, so you didn't stop them, but after a moment, you stepped around them to find medics.
"Sorry about that!" a man said, rushing up to you and the Sylveon, "she ran off before I could stop her--must've wanted to help with the fire."
Finally finding a stretcher, you laid the man on it, letting the medics take him away. You turned back to the man with the Sylveon and froze--only for a moment. You didn't notice at first glance, but he was handsome, with piercing green eyes.
"It's fine; I'm glad she wanted to help. But this is dangerous, and civilians and their pokemon should stay away," you replied.
He nodded, forcing Sylveon back into her ball, much to her dismay. "Right, sorry," he said a little sheepishly.
***
Rafael went to go stand by Olivia--who had caught her Gardevoir before they made it to the fire. He felt like a fool letting his Sylveon run amok, especially when she interrupted a cute firefighter's job. Well, cute from what he could see under the gas mask.
But something about you helping people, fighting fires, and being a badass made him pause. And as he watched you turn and run back into the building, all he could think about was asking you out.

name: Hypatia Pherenice
race: Kalashtar
class: Ranger (Fey Wanderer)
characterisation: With all the lawyers out there wanting to capitalise on deals with the fey, they’ve been forced to strike back. That’s Hypatia’s job - they’re a diligent and cool-headed negotiator, equally accurate at shooting arrows and cutting through deception, and with no tolerance for anyone talking over them. They were taken by the fey as a small child, after the spirit within them began to manifest its influence, advising them in their sleep so they could solve puzzle toys the next morning. The fey raised them as one of their own, and they quickly forgot about their birth family - they knew they were different from other fey, but their tutors reassured them they were just adopted. Now, they take part in negotiations of all kinds between the fey and other beings, as well as taking adventuring jobs while looking for contacts. Of course, this requires them to be able to fight, so they took up the bow - a childhood hobby turned into a life skill. And often, if a deal or a dungeon’s puzzle isn’t going so well, they will request to sleep on it and come back the next day with a fresh mind - and the wisdom of their spirit. There is one problem they have yet to solve, however: where they belong. With their spirit, they feel different to the fey; with their upbringing, they feel different to other kalashtar. They wonder if it would help to find another of the same bloodline, but don’t know where to start...
-
inspiration: Gardevoir this is definitely one of the less obvious combinations, imo, but - a lot of the fey wanderer traits really work for Gardevoir, I feel. as for making them a lawyer, I gave them the Fancy Shirt while trying to work out how to incorporate the chest horn, and given it worked very nicely, I then wanted to work out a reasoning for such a fancy shirt on a ranger. how would they keep it clean? but they’d probably wear something else on adventures, switching to the fancy outfit for negotiations. besides, making them a lawyer made me laugh so there’s that I imagine their spirit like Rescue Team!Gardevoir, basically (which is the main reason I chose Kalashtar, because of said example), guiding them to some fate, for which being raised by the fey would help. what that fate is though, and where they truly belong, who knows...

Pokemon Card of the Day #2339: Garchomp-EX (XY Promo #167)
Tumblr media
There was no shortage of Promo cards featuring Pokemon-EX at this point in the game. This Garchomp-EX did provide a way to get to the Promo M Garchomp-EX released at the same time, and for that alone it was worth at least taking a look at how this one did. It didn’t look to be that impressive, but Dragon-types had been known to surprise in the past, and with Double Dragon Energy still being legal maybe there was something there.
180 HP was typical for a Pokemon-EX, and was enough to tank a good hit if needed. The Fairy Weakness meant that you did have to look out for the likes of Gardevoir-GX, M Gardevoir-EX and Xerneas, which showed up often enough to cause some problems. It also needed 2 Energy to retreat, and you’d probably want something other than Float Stone so you could use Garchomp Spirit Link on your likely path to reach M Garchomp-EX.
Shred wasn’t very good. 30 damage for a Fighting Energy that ignored effects on the opponent’s Active Pokemon was just weak in general.
Hyper Beam’s 100 damage seemed fine, though it was lower than you’d like to see for the awkward cost of a Water, 2 Fighting, and a Colorless Energy. You’d want Double Dragon Energy here if you wanted to use it, and you’d probably be stuck pairing it with Fighting-types or maybe Water-types. There was a coin flip, and a heads let you discard an Energy attached to the opponent’s Active Pokemon. This was nice when it worked, but was still luck.
Garchomp-EX wasn’t worth the investment needed to make it even decent. It was just a bit too weak and Hyper Beam had an annoying Energy cost. This card was simply a way to get to M Garchomp-EX, which had some of the same problems but hit a lot harder.

The secrets of the fairy type ch1
Sooo, the first chapter of my Bede/Hop fic is up~ Check it out below or at my AO3 :> AO3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22528489/chapters/53831956 Title: The secrets of the fairy type Chapter 1/? Pairing: Bede/Hop Game: Pokémon Sword/Shield Description:  Months after Bede became an official gym leader, he is being challenged to a battle by Hop, the boy who is both like a steel type and a fighting type at once to his inner fairy; both weak and strong to him, in ways Bede wouldn't want to admit. It is the start of years of challenges, in which Hop seems determined to win for reasons Bede doesn't understand. When Hop finally wins after 4 years of endless battles, the first words he says are: "Please be my boyfriend!" Surely, he is trying to make fun of him right? Bede turns him down, but to Hop, it's merely the start of a new battle; the battle for Bede's heart. Only it isn't that easy to be captured. The forest was devoid of all sound, except for the quiet rustling of the leaves in the soft summer breeze. Even though the days were longer now, the Tangle was still embraced by the endless twilight, hidden within the shadows of the tall trees. The only dim light ever came from the large mushrooms at the sides of the path, that lit up brighter as soon as you touched them. Opal always said it was because the Tangle was a magical place, created by the fairy Pokémon. Bede wasn’t sure if that was the truth, but he did know the forest at least felt magical. After a year of living here, it had become his favorite place in the world. There was no one there; just him, the fairies and the tiny woods. Still, this was not the time to simply enjoy his surroundings. He had a goal in mind, a Pokémon to catch.
Luckily, the wild Shiinotic still hadn’t noticed the two of them. Bede glanced at his Sylveon beside him. She was walking by his side silently, taking care where to place her paws just like he taught her, so she wouldn’t make a sound. He followed her gaze towards the wild Pokémon, that had its back turned to them. The problem with Shiinotic was that they were very stubborn – as soon as you attacked them, they simply healed themselves with one of their many healing moves. It was very frustrating, and the exact reason why it was one of the few fairy types Bede hadn’t caught yet. To be completely honest, he was already tired of the stupid Pokémon, but Opal insisted that he should have at least caught and trained every fairy type Pokémon that had made Galar its home. Bede didn’t need that many. But Opal said he would only be able to understand fairies once he had bonded with them all. And Opal’s word was – however annoying it may be – still absolute. Bede didn’t even know why he was listening to her.
Either way, the only effective way to catch a Shiinotic was probably to attack it while it was distracted, and quickly throw a pokéball before it could heal itself. Which was the exact reason why Bede was already clenching a great ball in his left hand. Irritated, he gritted his teeth, sneaking closer to the Shiinotic with each step. Sylveon looked up at him, her head slightly tilted. She probably felt his uneasiness, like she always could, like most of his Pokémon could. But that was bad, because what if she lost concentration and-
‘FINALLY FOUND YOU! REMATCH! YOU AND ME, MATE!’
Bede’s heart jumped from the sudden loud sound, and cringed slightly. Just a bit more, and he would’ve tripped over his own feet. On the one hand, it was a good thing that he hadn’t, because it would have been more than a little embarrassing. On the other, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because right in front of his eyes, he saw the Shiinotic turn its head. It made a soft yelping sound, then jumped, disappearing in the small bushes. Sylveon jumped after it, but immediately returned with a disappointed look on her face. Damnit! This was the closest they’d ever been!
‘Hey, don’t ignore me!’ called the voice behind him.
Annoyed, Bede turned to the source of his misery. What he didn’t expect was the pair of very bright, yellow-ish brown eyes looking right into his. A pair of eyes he hadn’t seen in, well, at least half a year. A pair he didn’t like seeing very much, either.
‘Good evening, to you too,’ Hop flashed a smile and Bede had to look away.
‘I was going to catch that. You’re as good at ruining my efforts as always, I see,’ he answered.
Sylveon let out a soft mew, as if greeting him, and Bede wasn’t sure if he should feel betrayed or offended.
‘Hey there, Sylveon.’ Hop leaned down, scratching Sylveon behind her ears exactly on the right spot, and Bede found himself crossing his arms in front of his chest, glancing at their exchange.
Sylveon purred, and Hop laughed, letting go as he stood straight up again. Bede frowned. Did he grow taller?
‘Alright, back to business, I’m challenging you to a battle!’
‘Battle? Why? Do you suddenly think you can beat me since you have the fairy badge? Just let me get this straight – who miss Opal gave a badge to is none of my concern. I have even higher standards than she has and-’
Hop cut him off. ‘I don’t need your gym badge, I just want a rematch. It’s been pretty long, don’t you think? I got stronger, too.’ He grinned, then Bede noticed he was already tossing a pokéball up and down in his hand, all ready to take him on.
Bede remembered. A misguided mind and a fragile heart. How easy it had been to crush both with just a few words. A victory in more than one way. A honey-sweet pride with bitter edges. He could still taste it. He couldn’t recall whether he had liked it a year ago or not. Right now, he was unsure.
Averting his gaze, he took a few steps back, Sylveon bouncing after him, following his steps like a little pup.
‘I hope you are prepared to get your hopes crushed,’ he smirked, but he couldn’t quite feel the joy.
Hop didn’t seem to notice as his eyes lit up. ‘Finally! Let’s go, mate!’ He threw his pokéball. Shreds of a comment about him being unable to properly throw a pokéball flashed through Bede’s mind. He ignored it as he watched Hop’s trusted partner emerge. Dubwool. More flashes.  A very angry Gloria. Yelling something about dear partner and insecure and lost and – Bede ignored it, glancing at Sylveon next to him, who was watching him with hopeful eyes.
‘Are you ready for this, Sylveon?’ he asked her.
Sylveon let out another mew and Bede watched as she jumped in front of him, eyes determined.
‘I’ll let you make the first move,’ he declared. ‘Since you are so eager.’
‘Well, then don’t complain if we win,’ Hop grinned and gave his Dubwool the first command.
Bede kept his eyes on the field as their Pokémon danced around each other, dodging and getting hit, landing attacks and missing. Sylveon was doing great, and Bede swore he could feel her joy in battle. It brought a small smile to his lips. It took two of Hop’s Pokémon to take her down, and Bede glanced at the other boy as he returned Sylveon to her pokéball. He was grinning proudly, sending words of pride his Snorlax’s way.
‘My partners have become stronger, haven’t they?’ The bright yellow eyes were focused his way, and Bede looked away.
‘Hmph, it still took you two Pokémon to beat my Sylveon. Fairy types are clearly superior.’ He let his Rapidash go next.
Hop was right though, he really got stronger. Still, Bede beat Hop’s team with ease; he hadn’t even needed to let Hatterene battle. As he returned Gardevoir to her Pokéball, he watched the other boy return his Zacian. The legendary. A fairy type. It was hard to believe Hop was a chosen one. Gloria was a different story, she had been messing with Bede’s life ever since they met, but Hop, he had never even defeated Bede. Meaning Bede was better than he was, right? Then why, why did he feel something sting at his chest. Envy? Indignation? There was no point in defining a meaningless feeling, anyway, so Bede stored Gardevoir’s pokéball in his bag and turned away, walking back towards Ballonlea.
‘Don’t think you’ve crushed my spirits!’ he heard Hop call after him. ‘I’ll be back! And I will beat you!’
‘It would be a waste of effort,’ said Bede. ‘But whatever. If you enjoy losing so much, I will surely keep reminding you of the feeling.’
‘One day, you will be at my mercy, fairy!’ He could hear Hop run off then. Frowning, Bede walked back towards the town. Fairy? A nickname? That boy, he really was stupid. Wasting his time like that. He was probably going to get an earful from Opal, since he had been gone for hours, and was going to return without a Shiinotic. Once again. Still, he was not about to give Hop credits for making him fail.
The opening to Ballonlea appeared in front of him, the shadows of the trees making way for the path towards town. Bede glanced up at the sky, as this was the spot where it was easiest to see. Tiny, little light bulbs dotted the dark-blue heavens, and he was shocked to determine that it was already much later than he had originally thought. He had to hurry, Opal wasn’t really one to openly voice her worries, but Bede knew that she cared. As he stepped into Ballonlea, he immediately felt at ease by the colourful mushrooms lighting up the small town. They were of every size; ones as tiny as a child’s hand, others as large as houses, aspiring to be as tall as the trees in the Glimwood Tangle. The mushrooms here were always shining brightly, they wouldn’t dim like their cousins, a stone’s throw away in the Tangle, too proud, too stubborn to let go of their shimmer. Bede loved it.
Quickly, he headed to the Pokémon center. His Pokémon would probably be fine after a good night’s rest, but he didn’t like to leave them wounded for too long. Hop wasn’t able to defeat him, but he had to give him credit for beating him up pretty well. It had been the most challenging match in a long while. Not that he would openly admit that.
‘You’re up late, sir,’ the lady at the counter blinked. Ever since he became gym leader, they started calling him that, but he wasn’t sure if he would ever get used to the ‘sir’. It felt good to receive recognition, but he was still just a 13-year-old.
‘Yes, well, I have been… training in the Tangle,’ he smiled a bit. ‘I got distracted by a few trainers.’ Just one, really, but he didn’t feel like being more specific. ‘Could you take a look at my Pokémon, please?’ He handed over his great balls.
‘Of course! Just a moment!’ she turned away.
The center was pretty much empty by now, so when Bede’s eyes picked up on a silhouette on the other side of the doors, his heart almost skipped a beat. Especially since it was very familiar figure, and it wasn’t entering the building, it simply beckoned him with a nod, and disappeared. Bede let out a shaky breath. Again? So soon? He glanced over the counter, but the lady was still busy taking care of his team.
‘I will be right back,’ he declared, not waiting for her answer before leaving the Pokécenter.
He looked around. The man wasn’t very fond of standing in the spotlight, but Ballonlea was full of shadows. Which one did he choose to hide into?
‘Right here,’ a voice called, and Bede followed it, behind one of the large chunks of trees that made the edge of town. He pushed his hands in the pockets of his coat, shivering lightly. Was it getting chilly? He vaguely recalled that the aura of the man might have always made him feel that way.
‘Do you have it?’ the figure asked when both of them stopped walking. His face was always partly hidden underneath the collar of his long coat, and partly beneath his large, dark hat. Bede could however still see the purple of his eyes. It was a dull, dark purple, more blue than red, having trouble to find its spark of passion.
‘You’re… back sooner than I expected,’ Bede answered, hating that the hesitation in his voice was audible.
‘Yes. Do you have it?’ Always hasty, never speaking more than necessary.
Bede took his left hand out of his pocket, revealing an envelope, as he handed it over to the figure. He took it, sticking it in a pocket on the inside of his coat. ‘I will be back.’
‘When?’
‘You’ll know.’
The man turned around and walked away in the direction of the Tangle, leaving Bede to watch him go. He felt nauseous as he moved back towards the Pokémon center to pick up his team.

Writober Day 6 ; Spirit World
She knew her time was coming, but she had wished it didn’t come so soon.
She was forced to watch her Pokemon, whom she had forced to spread out in the hopes of protecting them, one by one, find her once things had calmed down. Brianne had given on on her search for them all, she assumed, with how it was Beauti who had found her first. at the bottom of the cliff, her lifeless body washed up against the shore. She was certain that she and Ele had felt the connection they had shatter. That was the only thing she felt was how they even found her.
She hated that she had no idea what she was thinking, but just the look she had on her face was enough to show the emotions for her. Scared, worried, terrified. She was glad that she made them split up instead of keeping them all in their Pokeballs, as she was sure she would never be found. But even then, she found herself restless. Who would ever believe that her mother wanted her dead like this?
Forcing herself to try to relax, Ele had been the next one to arrive, while Beauti was simply on the ground, sulking. It was making her nonexistent heart and stomach churn with how she looked at the moment when she saw just why the Gardevoir was on the ground like that. But she could see that she knew action had to be done. A paw gently placed on Beaitu’s head, she could tell they were talking through the mental link they had. They forced one another to look at each other for a moment, before nodding and Beauti getting up.
Then, Ele picked the blonde up, completely limp and even partly covered in blood. As they had turned around to leave, Marie had arrived. “Azu!” She had instantly run over, looking at both of them and continuing to try to speak. At that point, Beauti’s face was covered in tears, and Ele’s was getting to that point as well. That was what likely let her know the truth, and Marie had quickly started to cry out. She wasn’t sure if it was in disbelief or pure sorrow.
But her cries led Bloom over. She could see the shock, and even the shaking of her first-ever Pokemon, and friend. She wanted to be able to hug her, tell her that everything was alright. But she couldn’t, and she knew as such. Dianne felt helpless as eventually, every single one of her pokemon, each with their pokeballs, thankfully, had arrived, not even a full twenty feet away from where she was washed up.
She could feel herself shivering. It wasn’t fair! Not to them, and not to her. What did she do to deserve this? To die in such a fashion. The only thing she could start to think of was her information regarding ghost types. Some were born by human souls, weren’t they? Taking a steady breath, she shook her head. No... That was stupid, and she knew it.
So, she simply followed the group. It was easy to do so, honestly. Remaining by their side, even after death. She had caught the side of something off to the side, though, and it got her curiosity peaked. Was that a wild pumpkin patch?...
It made her stare, frozen in place with wide eyes. There was a Pokemon that made her think, as she looked at the group of pumpkins. Pumkaboo, The pumpkin Pokemon. The pumpkin body is inhabited by a spirit trapped in this world. And all things considered, she was still technically dead. Was that even possible?...
She knew it was a really, really stupid idea. And honestly, she expected it to not work. She had gone over to one of the more Pumkaboo sized pumpkins and placed her hand on it. Her head tilted in thought, wondering just how this would even work. Yamask had it’s face from when it was alive, a long time ago, and other Pokemon seem to have died horrifically. What on earth would let her be qualified to become a Pokemon?
Closing her eyes and letting out an exhale on defeat, she had been about to stand again to catch up to her Pokemon, when she could’ve sworn that her legs had gotten so much smaller. And as she opened her eyes, she knew she was lower, and she felt armless. Getting wide eyes, she allowed herself a moment to freak out, which ended up making her roll a bit. When Dianne had realizeed she was rolling, that was when it clicked.
“Pumkaboo!”
Just like how she was thinking when she had given in, what on earth made her qualified enough to become a Pokemon?! Just simply sitting there, she had plenty of questions she was asking herself mentally, but soon enough, she had come to realize that she had no idea how to move around. She knew Pumpkaboo float, but just how does that work? Was that an unconscious thing, like breathing, or did it take willpower?
Forcing herself to take a breath, she gave herself a moment to process this, before starting to think on the idea of just rolling around until she knew how to float. A painful process, but it would likely work. So, she prepped herself, before starting with her rolling. Like she had thought, the bumps were a bit on the painful side, but she managed nonetheless.
It was when she had started to hear talking that she had decided to take a small break. They were back near town... Considering this was an island, she supposed that it would’ve been sooner rather than later that she managed to find her way back. But then she caught a familiar voice, and her eyes widened.
Was that who she thought it was?...
“Pum...” The thought of it made her sulk. Those two had no idea what happened yet, and the moment that she, out of all people, would, she could almost imagine how she would react. How Steven would react. She wasn’t a major part of their lives, she was sure, but she knew that like her Pokemon, they would likely be devastated.
“Oh, what’s this?”
She was caught, wasn’t she? But, she supposed she could offer at least some way to have a smile on her face for a bit longer before reality struck. To be able to see her smile, she swore, was the best thing she could imagine. It would be nice to be able to keep that for as long as possible before the news would eventually lead to her.
To offer the gift of happiness, along with the will she did make if this were to happen, was the very least she could do. So, she had let herself rollover, so she could face the voice and offered a smile. “Pummmkaboo~”
And the smile she got back, filled with curiosity and wonder, made it worth it.

My Smash Bros. Dream Roster
So this is going to be pretty lengthy. This is pretty much a list of fighters I would love to see in Smash, maybe not in Ultimate, but in any future games, and my reasoning for it. I’ll go in order of most wanted as well as by game. Feel free to just skip all this and just go through the piks.
First off, I desperately want some Golden Sun in Smash, and so I am an absolute Isaac stan. He and Felix are very similar as they are both earth adepts (like earth benders I guess) and could easily be made into an echo. Although they are usually shown with swords, they can wield other weapons such as axes not to mention their large arsenal of elemental psynergies (magic?) that could be great in Smash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zelda is another of my favorites, and there are so many characters that could be featured. Although everyone wants Skull Kid, I think there are some other viable options that could have a chance of appearing. First, there are Vaati and Zant, two of my favorite Zelda characters. They both use very unique magics and attacks, and Vaati in particular has a lot of potential. Plus, his games need more love. Something cool is that almost every modern Zelda game is represented in the roster. The new Link is from Breath of the Wild, the Zelda is reminiscent of her Link Between Worlds/Link to the Past design, Ganondorf got his Ocarina of Time Look back, Young Link is from Ocarina and Majora’s Mask, and Toon Link is from Windwaker. Ganondorf and Zelda held their Twilight Princess designs for two games, so that was sufficiently represented. However, Skyward Sword is sadly not present, although there is a stage. Some possible Skyward Sword fighters could be FI, the dancing sword spirit, and Impa, who could either be a Sheik clone or have her own movesets with a naginata as in Hyrule Warriors. These, in my opinion would be great choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirby needs some more representatives, and although Bandana Dee would be great, I’ve always loved Marx, the Jester. If Kirby Star Allies has shown anything is that Marx has incredible potential as a playable character and is just so crazily cool to play as him. It would be pretty easy to bring over his Star Allies moveset to Smash. Seriously, look up some footage of how he plays. It’s seriously fun. Another recurring character is Galacta Knight, who is like a powered/evil form of Meta Knight. He would be a great echo, although a bit more on the berserker side, even though he could easily get his own movesets. If not, I would absolutely love at least an alternate costume for Meta Knight and not just a color swap. Galacta Knight is just Cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Pokemon, there are literally more than 700 options to choose from. Although Incineroar and Decidueye would be great, I think Gallade and Gardevoir would be more interesting choices. I really love both of their designs and think they could be great. Plus, it’s a sin that Lucario is the only fighting type in a fighting game. As for gen 7 representatives, another good choice could be Tsareena. She would be pretty unique as a lot of her attacks would depend on kicks, and would not be bad as a Zero Suit Samus echo. If Ivysaur and Duck Hunt has taught us anything is that you don’t need to be bipedal for Smash. I think Silvally could be a great choice as well. Plus his recolors are already part of its concept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another series that’s close to my heart is Fire Emblem. Although there are already plenty of reps in the roster, they don’t do a good job of representing what else the series has to offer. Most of the Fire Emblem characters (if not all) wield swords of some kind, but there are other weapons they could focus on. Axes, Lances, Magical tomes of all kinds, throwing knives, clubs, hammers, bows, and even staves could all be used more creatively for a character. The roster definitely needs more magic users, so I hope they take this into consideration. Fire Emblem has a new game coming up, Three Houses for Switch, and although not a lot of information has been revealed about it, there’s a high chance we may get another character from Fire Emblem from that. From what is known so far, there may be a chance that either Edelgard or Byleth (the typical blue haired protag) may be featured. As for Edelgard, she is seen using Axes, so if they go with her, they will hopefully choose that as her weapon. Not much is known for Byleth, but hopefully, he is more flexible with his weapon choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another series close to my heart is Final Fantasy. Smash gave us the grand surprise of adding Cloud to the mix, and so it has opened the gates of possibility. Although some popular characters such as Noctis or Lightning would be cool, I think more iconic characters would be better for Smash (if any). When we think of Final Fantasy, we often think of their iconic black mages. Representative of this is Vivi, who is probably the most recognized mage in the series. Two more icons of the series are the adorable Moogles and the loyal Chocobos. However, instead of being on their own, why not fuse them together and have a Chocobo-riding moogle join the fray? It would be adorable and it would be open to unique playstyles. This character would be reminiscent of Duck Hunt, Rosalina and Luma, Ice Climbers, or even Bowser Jr.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some other representatives from other series include Blathers and Timmy and Tommy Nook from Animal Crossing, Toadette from Mario (yeah I know, TOO MANY MARIO CHARACTERS etc), and Roll from Megaman. Monster Hunter has been present in Smash as well, and Ultimate even has an assist trophy and stage. I love the series and a fighter would be great. The trouble with this is that a monster hunter now has 14 different options when it comes to weapons, and they can only use one at once. It would be difficult to decide which weapon style to put in the game, and they might just end up putting another sword user, (would love a gunlance though I doubt they’d do that) so a compromise to this could be to add a hunter Palico.  These witty feline companions have a variety of attacks and techniques including a boomerang and a melee weapon, as well as bombs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, from Sonic, everyone is expecting Shadow, but honestly, Tails and Knuckles sound so much more interesting. Knuckles is confirmed as an assist, so Tails could still have a shot. He’d be an interesting fighter and more Sonic representation would be awesome.
Tumblr media
Let me know what y’all think of my choices. Feel free to tear me apart in the comments. Just be civil.
I didn’t expect to write an entire essay, but thanks for the read.

Chapter 8 Aura
“Uhm… yes? Lady?”, the Lucario turned to face us, looking confused. “Who’s there? There’s something really weird with the auras in this room.”
I could only wonder what exactly he meant by “auras”, but judging by the pale reddish coloration of his eyes, I realized the Lucario was blind. Both his wrists and ankles had a pair of shining cuffs made of metal, as well as the one on his neck. They gave off a faint gleam under the candle’s lights.
“This one here’s Ange, my cousin. She used to work with us before you came along, so we’ll be doing her a favor. Are you done with your tasks?”
“Ah, yes. There’s enough food for some days so I don’t need to go fetch any more.”
“Don’t worry about me now, young ones”, a low, hoarse voice said, “Old me was about to go back deep into meditation again. Feel free to use the room, if you don’t mind my presence.”
“Actually, we could use your help as well, Elder. If that wouldn’t disrupt your work too much, that is.”
“Please, my name’s Elk”, he lifted up a dismissing hand. On his pointy, wrinkled muzzle, was a small smile. “I’ll try assisting you to the best of my ability, then.”
Lady Noir sat down on the floor next to Elk, and both I and Tales followed her lead.
“So”, Tales said, resting his paws on his lap. “Nice to meet you, Ange. What can we help you with?”
“Oh, I- Nice to meet you, Tales”, I said, stretching out a hand which Tales took on his paw and shook firmly, making his cuffs emit a metallic sound. “Nice to meet you too, mister Elk”, I bowed, though unsure if he could see anything with his eyes closed like that.
“The pleasure is mine, miss Ange”, he smiled again. “Pardon me my curiosity though, but what are you carrying there?”
Yes, apparently he didn’t need to have open eyes to see things, I mused to myself.
“Ange, show them the kit”, Lady Noir said, taking a heartfelt sip out of her pipe. I took my cape out of the way to reveal the basket where the child was tucked inside, and placed it in the middle of us.
“Hmm...” Elk muttered in an understanding tone, stroking his long beard as if doing so helped him concentrate. Tales blinked, looking surprised; he lowered his head to face the dormant child.
“I found her a few days ago”, I said, wanting to clarify the situation for them. “I, somehow, could grasp a kind of psychic connection with her, and that’s how I was led to finding her in the woods. She just… won’t wake up.”
“The most efficient way of discovering things are looking into one’s thoughts or memories”, Elk stated. “However, I suppose you already did so, miss Ange?”
“Yes, that’s right…”
“And what did you see?”
“Nothingness. It felt like I was peering into a ghost’s mind, and I, myself, started to get engulfed in darkness. I couldn’t keep our minds linked for more than mere seconds.”
“It seems not only reckless, but pointless if I were to try doing so myself, then.”
“I wouldn’t ask something like that from you, Elder”, Lady sighed. “Your mind is powerful enough to keep our barriers up night in and day out without becoming tired, but you do acknowledge you’re…”
“Old”, he giggled, looking amused.
Tumblr media
“I wanted to go with ‘frail’”, she shrugged as if being caught in a mishap. “But, your sight is much keener than ours, youngsters. Aren’t you able of seeing anything into this kit’s future?”
“For now, I’ll just keep listening, fair Lady. I think young Tales here may be of more assistance to you until I gather all my thoughts on that matter.”
As Elk addressed him, our gazes promptly turned back to the Lucario. He shuffled uncomfortably.
“Uh, welp”, he stuttered. “I… can see something odd in her aura. It may sound off to you, but it’s what I see regardless.”
“Aura?”, I asked, remembering his mention of it earlier. Maybe it was some kind of esper power? “What’s this?”
“Basically, every living being has energy of its own, to put it simply. Usually others call it by spirit, soul, all sorts of names. We, Lucario, call it aura, and are really sensitive to it. And so far, this is the first time I’ve ever seen something like this.”
“Please, go on.”
“The kid’s aura is almost… most completely detached from her body”, Tales furrowed his brows, expressing his bewilderment. “Her body is right here, but most of the aura connected to it isn’t. I can clearly sense an aura, but it doesn’t seem to be hers at all.”
Tumblr media
“Y-you mean…?”, I gasped, while Lady seemed oddly calm about the situation.
“Dead things have no aura, so she’s still alive, even if by a little stretch. The meaning of being alive… is that energy generated from within a physical body, and energy that comes from its mind are both present.”
“As psychics, I’d say we’re pretty much aware of that, having to protect ourselves from hungry ghosts and all”, Lady stated, waving her pipe around before taking another sip from it.
“It’s very hard to separate body from mind energy-wise, so they make no distinction”, he kept explaining, averting his gaze on Lady’s direction. “Feeding on mind energy on instinct, attempting to seek a physical body to be theirs since they have none. The only energy left on ghosts is the one that comes from the ‘mind’ of their former selves, but it usually isn’t located in the ‘living realm’.”
“So, what do you make out of all that?”, she said, letting out a stream of purple smoke.
“Either she’s currently a ghost, or she’s a normal living being whose aura is located somewhere else.”
“I’m sure we can check out of the list her being a ghost, I mean; she’s a bit too solid for that.”
“I’m… not sure. What I sense doesn’t seem to be alive, but again, it does differ from what seems to be the kid’s aura. Sorry if that doesn’t help much, this looks as weird for me as it does for you.”
“Tales, are you able of telling from where it’s coming from?”, I leaned in, catching the Lucario’s attention. He closed his eyes, concentrating.
“…From a faraway place”, he said after a short while. “Through the seas, all the way to the south. A land of peaceful and valiant hearts. Far beyond a circle of white, little plants, I see… a tree.”
That didn’t sound as describable as I had expected. I’d never heard of such a place, and not only were the seas too vast, we couldn’t possibly swim for that long while searching based solely on a vague description.
“Uhm… Lady?”, I looked back at her in uncertainty, wanting better explanations. She seemed to know what was going on much better than me.
“That further confirms your suspicions, Angie”, the mafiosa Gardevoir nodded. “That’s what happens to folks alien to that world. Magical energy is abundant, and if one were to trespass uninvited – one which isn’t the same of our kind -, the body is left behind. All energy has a magical source so it blends in easily, but not all physical bodies work the same.”
“And let me guess… It’s probably very, very bad if a body keeps detached from its soul for too long… right?”, I asked, and she remained silent. “Why? Why didn’t you tell me this sooner…?”
Even though I was aware there had something dark about the fairy world, I couldn’t see a reason for Lady to keep shut about such an important detail; now, out of all times. Before I could argue on her motives, Elk, whom had been silent until now, spoke up.
“Mmhm, I see, I see…” he nodded, stroking his beard again. “I’m devoid of doubts now. I did not expect to see this child so soon, although. Pardon me my delay, but predictions shall not be handled recklessly.”
“What?”, I exclaimed, in surprise. “Did you see something, mister Elk???”
“I’ve seen this child’s arrival here in a vision a few years ago. However, I didn’t expect they’d end up in the fairy world.”
The sudden mention of the fairy world surprised both me and Lady, as we hadn’t properly addressed it by name not even once during the conversation. It seemed not only Elk’s future sight was keener than ours, but his knowledge was also much greater than we had anticipated. Even though Tales looked a bit lost once the subject was brought up, he listened closely to the Elder.
“It was naive of me to think their past wouldn’t interfere in their present… Future has too many open paths, thus it is always changing; reshaping itself. However, what dwells in the past can no longer be changed. That much, I can share with you. The place you’re looking for is the Southern Island.”
He lifted his palms and, between them, a vision formed.
Tumblr media
“I can’t guarantee a successful outcome on your ordeals since future’s handles move back and forth with your every action, but I can say for sure there’s not much time left for this child. You might want to go see the Madame, as for she will greatly help.”

Knight of Heart pokemon thing, please? 👀
Okay, so the Knight of Heart uses their Aspect for pretty much everything, be it shield, sword, or tool. They can be rather defensive of their Aspect within themselves, usually keeping some facet of their identity/personality hidden behind a Knight’s Shield facade. A Pokemon like that would most likely fit with this type-wise would be Psychic, Fairy, or Ghost type due to those types’ links to emotions and spirit. Knights also tend towards being protective of those closest to them. As such, Gardevoir is a pretty likely candidate for the Knight of Heart’s Pokemon partner.
Gardevoir synchs up to its partner’s emotions, and will do anything to protect those it cares most about. Its powers rely on its psychic abilities, and it can use these abilities to both defend its allies and attack the enemy. With both offensive and passive abilities to be used in battle, it is a force to be reckoned with, much like the fully-realized Knight of Heart.
