in fact it was better than fine, it was a globally recognized symbol that could be drawn by a small child, and extended in all sorts of ways, one of the most successful graphic designs in history

the whole argument about what the different stripes symbolize is the graphical equivalent of a backronym, the colors of the rainbow don't mean anything individually, other than being colors of the rainbow

I could make this into a wider point about how this is symbolic of the problem where progressive movements became gradually more focused on internal purity politics and symbolism than effective communication, but honestly i'm mostly just annoyed on graphic design terms

We were headed for a hard-right turn, but this shift is absolutely unprecedented in modern times. The stark reality of a right wing nationalist future really got people to pay attention.

@lorenzobane and i watched a bunch of DS9 this week and something i had totally forgotten is how cardassia is described as already being decimated by the Klingon war (and presumably the Bajoran resistance and the Federation pitching in before that) before the dominion even targets them. based on what the gul in TNG chain of command says, there was widespread famine before the occupation due to over farming and various unsustainable practices, and in the ds9 ep where Eddington is revealed to be maquis they are trying to hijack a shipment of replicators that the federation was sending to cardassia. so even pre dominion, they were desperate enough to accept federation aid. like. shaking my head to indicate i don't agree with fascism but no wonder they are Like That

So, in Brazilian, USAmerican, and LGBT+ politics news, transgender Brazilian congresswoman Erika Hilton has received from the USA a visa marking her gender as male.

Hilton canceled a trip she was going to make to the US this month, where she was going to participate on Saturday (12) in a panel at the Brazil Conference, and says she will take action against US President Donald Trump at the UN (United Nations) because she considers the case to be transphobic and disrespectful of her Brazilian civil records.

yknow it is easy to joke about tumblr memes wreaking havoc on your vocabulary or whatever but when you are around people who are familiar with them it can be genuinely very useful to have a one-syllable noun meaning "unpopular yet heavily marketed streaming service that is going to inevitably go bankrupt in a year or two holding a show you want to watch hostage in the meantime"
