Firefighters rush to garden fire in Southall

Around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a range of garden outbuildings on Park Avenue in Southall yesterday evening at 5:33pm.   The outbuildings were completely destroyed by fire as well as fencing and shrubs. One 15kg cylinder was removed from the fire and cooled to an ambient temperature as a precaution, as some gas cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. How do I make myself wanted to one person in a polycule whose desires are restricted by the need for all new sexual partners to be shared by all three?

Dear Polyplush,

A polycule is a group of people who have chosen to be together and abide by a certain set of rules that, for them, heightens their sense of pleasure and security. For you to elect to make yourself wanted to only one of them is your choice, and totally understandable, but you must be prepared for the possibility that you will be rejected on the basis of this set of rules that have been agreed on by all the members of the polycule prior to your meeting them. So, you would really be putting yourself out there especially as you would be expressly and knowingly going against a predetermined set of rules that you were invited to share in in the first place (and not create—though this may be an option at some point?).

At the same time, polyrebel, I am a desirous and dejected creature as well so I understand the pull to a person regardless of rules and boundaries. You could make yourself wanted in a way that is outside of the polycular regulatory categories (think when Modafinil was still unclassified by the FDA, or the status of designer drugs in North America before they get government pawed and prod. You could read books together (Louise Labé by the summertime gardenfire, or Jack Spicer by the High Park sundial; Barthes—a classic wink to your lover’s drinksource), transcribe oral storytelling, shave their ass, go to the cinema (they are open now), tickle their chest after you wax them... The possibilities are endless. You could deal with and appreciate their singularity in a way that is respectful and singular to what you want from them outside of the polycule. And if you don’t know what that is yet, the periphery is still long, broad, and not-totally outlawed.

Reflect and ask yourself why you want them out of the entire polycule (there must be a number of tasty options) and honour that. Be true to yourself and certainly be honest with them. If you are already burning with extracurricular desire, this is sexy and must be shared. I understand that it is also emotionally daunting and you may not want to get into the emotional mud race with the exopolycular person just yet, but you already are—seeing as you are asking me this question—so I urge you to show the same attention to your newly bitten apple.

I believe as long as your actions are aligned with your desires and you express them in an honest way that doesn’t hurt anyone, the apple of your eye will hold themselves to the same standard, and hopefully be clear about their expectations, desires, and determinations. If not, there are oranges, cherries and certainly a strawberry or two in the circle of carnality and untotal devotion. Munch away, and good luck!
