Current movement: exercise hand 🤚🏾 at #stilllife ... funny how you have one idea in mind and purpose for a piece and it changes or becomes central #figure of #artistic #expression this was to be smaller part of a larger idea I had ( still maybe this could very well be a #study ) oh well happy accident accepted ☺️ . The vase 🏺 inspired by an #africanbaskets weave hats off to them very complicated designs the #foliage two are #monstera the other with red veins I do not know name of but I love the large #greenery the #pinkwalls and clear #blueskies . Today’s movement: Amka Waasi to become the “Roho Bingwa” ; the past six weeks I’ve encountered some beautiful #souls some new some in my life a long long time . So I was in #Louisville this week at #21cmuseumhotel and met two young brothers and discussed some work on display one of long time friend K Dub . I’m proud to be included in @5ptsartgallery second annual critically acclaimed “This is America “ group exhibition on view until August 30th and online . My submission “Madonna with Strawberries “_watercolor,conte,acrylic on 24x18in. 140lb wc paper. Still life about the divine love and sacrifices of Mothers and what they bear. Matriarchs are uplifting and I providing for their offspring and yet they do not have control of knowing the outcome in the lives of their children. It’s impossible for any parent to be in every aspect of their child’s life. Indeed this absence is a natural development leading to adulthood. Along the journey children go out and have other influences that are either detrimental to them or a great positive force in their development only to succumb to fate / destiny if there is such a tangible concept. How many mother’s of color throughout history have cried countless tears and lost sons and daughters at the hands of the enemy in their own land from Africa’s west coast to the shores, fields, streets and laws of America. So often Black males in history are slaughtered lambs and are sometimes absent in the lives of their families by death, choice, or systematically induced. Mothers therefore or forced to be so providers we come in the pillars of the community with so much weight to bear she can hardly move or breathe but yet does that and more. She has become even more necessary for the survival of a black family. In return she is loved and she ascends to DIVINITY! This is America too.
