Since Drax, Pete, Gamora and Rocket all raised baby Groot as his parents, and the fact that in a galaxy full of different alien cultures, societies where non-monogamous dynamics would be the norm or at least somewhat common, there were probably at least a few misunderstandings during missions where the four of them were thought to be a polycute raising a kid.

PETER

Peter would be soooo jealous, and he isn't even remotely good at hiding it. "Excuse me, can you stop flirting with y/n?" He ironically asks and the man who's talking to you chuckles. "Tell your friend to back up, love." He says and you raise an eyebrow. "Well, actually--" you can't even finish because Peter pushes him. "It's boyfriend, and walk away or else I'll be forced to use my guns to make you understand boundaries." He says, his hand on his gun folders and his eyes stuck into the men's. He nods and raises his hands while leaving. You look at your boyfriend. "Babe, you're so tragic." You fool him around and he softly caresses your hip. "It's amusing," He says and you frown, he smiles. "Just the fact that people think they can be as lucky as I am to have you."

ROCKET

Rocket would be bothered but uninterested. He knows he can trust you, but he has something to say anyway. "Baby, is this dumbass bothering you?" He asks while looking directly at you. The person who's flirting with you gasps. "What the fuck? I'm talking to y/n, go away." Rocket rolls his eyes. "Here it is, another idiot who thinks that can have a chance with you." He says, always talking to you and never to the person who's standing there. You chuckle, trying to hold back a laugh while the person curses. "Fuck it, you're totally not worth it." They say while going away. Rocket looks at you with a smirk. "What a douche, you're totally worth it instead."

DRAX

Drax would mostly staring from far away, trying to understand why is someone being so touchy with you. He would do his best to keep calm, obviously failing. "Okay, enough playing." He finally says while walking to you and looking at the man who's flirting with you. He frowns. "I was just--" he tries to say, but Drax stops him. "We don't care, leave." He threateningly says and the man immediately gasps and leave. You smile at him. "Was it necessary?" You ask and he shrugs, his hand caressing your cheek. "Was it not?"

GROOT

Groot would naively think that the person who's flirting with you wants to be your friend, at the beginning. Anyway, as soon as he notices that you're getting uncomfortable, he immediately walks to you. "I am Groot." He says and the man raises an eyebrow. "What did he say?" He asks and you slightly smile. "That you should not be so close to me." You translate and the man laughs. "Ah! A tree telling me what to do!" He mocks him and you get nervous. "Okay, I agree with him, anyway." You say and Groot nods. "I am Groot." He says and the man raises an eyebrow. You puff. "He said you should leave and I think so too." You conclude and he walks away while puffing. You look at Groot. "Thank you." You say and he softly smiles at you.

GAMORA

Gamora would be so pissed off. She isn't exactly jealous, but she tends to be so protective of you. When she sees someone flirting with you, she always thinks that she wants to throw hands at them. She lets you handle the situation, unless someone becomes too intrusive. "Hey, clearly y/n isn't interested and I think you should leave now." She suggests and puts a hand on your hip, to make the person understand that you're her partner. The girl who was flirting with you frowns. "Oh okay, I wasn't even flirting but bye anyway." She lies and Gamora rolls her eyes while watching her leave. "What a liar, but I totally understand her: you look stunning." She compliments and you smile at her.

MANTIS

Mantis would totally be too shy and insecure to say something. She instantly gets jealous and sad but she lets you taking care of the situation. "What happened?" She asks as soon as you're back to her, you shrug. "Nothing, she asked me out." You say, staying chill. She nods and looks away. "Uhm, okay." She says with a lovely pout, you smile at her. "I obviously told her that I'm not interested." You say while brushing a lock of her hair behind her ear. She smiles. "Really?" She asks, her face lighting up. You nod. "I have you, I'm more than okay." You reassure her and she hugs you.

BONUS + YONDU

Yondu would totally want to handle the situation himself. "Boy, are you flirting with y/n?" He asks while looking at the boy, he shrugs. "What you gonna do about it?" He challenges him and he whistles, his arrow immediately coming to him. The boy tenses up while Yondu smiles. "You have two chances now: you leave or you meet my best friend, this lovely creature." He says while making the arrow float around his head. The boy swallows his own saliva before leaving without further words. You shake your head. "You terrorised him." You joke and Yondu shrugs. "That was the whole point, Kid."

BONUS + NEBULA

Nebula would get mad to the point of wanting to kill that person. She is extremely protective and also kinda territorial. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" She asks, he hand already on the hilt of her sword. You look at her, reassuring that everything is okay with just one look. The girl who was flirting with you raises an eyebrow. "Woah, calm down, I'm leaving." She immediately says and Nebula looks at her, still quite nervous. You caress her cheek. "Baby, it's okay, I was already sending her away." You softly say and she finally relaxes at your touch, her eyes stuck into yours.

groot leaving the pot was a very big day on the milano. they hastily put together a big party to celebrate, and everyone had their attention on groot for a while-especially rocket.

quill and rocket argue over small stuff all the time because they are Both so stubborn. both of them have be right even if it’s something totally subjective.

mantis scrapbooks, and taught nebula how to do crafts. now nebula is obsessed with making little bracelets but doesn’t give them away because she’s scared of being judged.

it took drax the longest to understand groot. the first thing he understood groot say was groot asking for a zargnut. (post celebration drax gave him half of one)

rocket built his own pair of headphones to listen to music while quill was sleeping and he was up building stuff.

rocket is a major insomniac, when he does sleep he has night terrors. (this was remedied post vol 3)

quill taught groot how to dance when he was a sapling.

gamora and drax are sparring buddies, they spar as much as possible to train. gamora wins most of the time.

all of the guardians have some level of ptsd. like they’ve been through so much they are all traumatized.

rocket, autistic. quill, autistic. nebula, also autistic.

quill loses shit all the time, so rocket makes installs trackers to put on all of his stuff.

rocket and tony had a joke rivalry when he was on earth, where tony and rocket constantly tried to see who could make the better tech.

gamoras fav genre is metal, drax prefers R&B, rocket loves dad rock (as said here by me) but listens to a lot of other stuff, groot listens to jazz, because that’s what he grew up listening to, and quill genuinely listens to anything and everything

Queer Headcanons for Guardians of the Galaxy

idk i'm gay and it's pride month and I like to write these characters as queer as possible so i wanna share my personal headcanons for each of the gang.

Peter: Bisexual. This man has fucked aliens with tentacles and needles for teeth and you're telling me he draws the line at men? No way. He and Thor totally pity-banged each other once.

Gamora: I have no reason for this whatsoever, but I really want Gamora to be bi, too. Ravager!Gamora uses her freedom from Thanos to experiment a little in that regard.

Nebula: Nebula gives off pansexual vibes to me in the sense that I feel she very rarely feels attraction at all and when she does, the person's gender doesn't factor into it. I also feel like she'd be demisexual. Also I sometimes headcanon her as trans or genderqueer, usually in Human AUs.

Drax: I feel like Drax is omnisexual and attracted to more masculine traits and appearances. The way he was talking about Thor lol. He likes his women buff and that's a mood.

Mantis: There are two versions of Mantis that exist in my head. One of them is aroace purely because of this one interview I saw with Pom Klementieff back in 2017 where she said she didn't think Mantis was "sexual", but I feel like it's kinda lame to headcanon the "cute and innocent" character as being ace xD. So then there's also my other version of Mantis that's a lesbian and kinda covertly horny xD (I write her as gay in Time After Time lol)

Kraglin: He's pan, too, and kind of a serial dater. He also gives me poly vibes for some reason. He and Yondu totally had something going on; I like shipping them legitly and as exes xD

Yondu: This man wouldn't give two shits about labels. He just knows when he's attracted to someone and doesn't care about what their gender is.

Rocket: I don't ship Rocket with anyone, but since writing Loud Love and getting a comment about it, I lean hard into this raccoon being a sex-repulsed ace.

Adam: Adam is kinda too child-coded for me to ship with anyone and I'm unsure of an exact headcanon for him but I love the idea of people of all genders hitting on him because he's handsome and Adam having no idea that's what's happening.

Groot: Just loves his weird gay family.

Peter and Gamora's height difference kills me.

When I look at them two side by side, there doesn't look to be much of a height difference sometimes but without her boots, honestly she'd be a LOT smaller than him. Let's face it, the heel on those boots are bloody massive.

And really, I think he'd love the height difference when she's not wearing those boots. He thinks it's adorable, and she absolutely hates it because he can't help but tease her about it.

See, this scene is why I believe Gamora used to take Peter to bed on really bad nights where he got absolutely hammered.

We already know he used to tell Gamora his life story when he was drunk, he said so in GOTG VOL.2

"I told you that when I was drunk!"

And with the way he grabs Nebula's arm when she tucks him in, I feel like it's deeper than him just him simply missing and longing for Gamora. It's deeper than that, it feels to me like it would have been a thing between the two of them because we all know how Gamora would look after him when he needed it, and it's the way he thinks he's talking to Gamora and telling her he loves her. I could be reaching, but for me, it's like he recognises the routine and he's longing for that because she'd pick him up when he was down.

And if there's any chance this isn't canon, then I consider this as officially one of my headcanons.

she has violent intrusive thoughts + really bad nightmares. sometimes after waking up from a nightmare she'll yell or fall out of bed, and if Quill hears her he'll come over and be like "oh hey, you're awake! well I can't sleep so that means you have to entertain me :)" as a way to secretly distract her. He looks at you, eyes filled with love and corner of lips curved into a tiny smile, before pressing a kiss on your forhead and letting you sleep.

ROCKET

Rocket would panic: he doesn't even know what to do. It never happened before and he's so confused, then he looks at you: he immediately relaxes, seeing how peaceful and angelic you look. He calms down and slightly smiles, his hand caressing your cheek and his heart beating faster than ever.

DRAX

Drax would be speechless for the first time ever: you look so beautiful, with your hand resting on his chest and your breath perfectly regular. He smiles and brushes a lock of your hair behind your ear, while trying not to move too much to avoid disturbing you.

GROOT

Groot finds you adorable. He looks at you, his eyes scanning your face while he smiles, knowing how tired you were and how much you actually needed rest. He caresses your cheek and sees you moving to pull him closer, so he tilts his head while hugging you from behind.

GAMORA

Gamora is so grateful to have you, and eventhough she isn't exactly good with these things, she tries to cuddle with you. She wraps you in her arms and pulls you closer, her eyes filled with love keep scanning you. She is still mesmerised at how beautiful you are even when you sleep. She caresses your cheek and slowly falls asleep next to you.

MANTIS

Mantis would be so happy. She can feel how relaxed you are, how peaceful and she is glad to see that you feel free to be like that around her. She spoons with you, her fingers drawing figures on your arm while she smiles, falling asleep next to you.

BONUS + YONDU

Youndu is so proud of you for the way you fought, so when you fall asleep next to him he's glad fo see you rest. He smiles, loving how calm you look, and softly caresses your back. "Sleep, kid, you deserved it." He whispers and proudly smiles.

this is pretty much the only way to end up in an actual relationship with gamora — not just because her traumatic past has left her with plenty of trust issues and a strained relationship with intimacy and affection, but also because unless you two are something extremely casual she needs to know that she can (a) trust you to not turn her in for a bounty from her adopted father or anyone else who may have it out for her, (b) rely on you to have her back and help her out when things get difficult in general life or in the heat of a battle (yes she’s more than capable of defending herself, obviously, but having someone that looks out for her at all times massively lessens her burdens and makes life a whole lot easier), and (c) know that you’re looking out for her best interests and are willing to step in and speak out if she’s in the wrong or needs to adjust her approach for a particular mission (seeing feared and known as the intimidating assassin she trained to be is good for the ego and all, but having someone who loves her enough to stand up and correct her when she’s wrong just as much as they’ll stand by her when she’s right is really important), and having a background of intimate friendship would have more than given you the time to prove yourself to her in these ways and thus would make the transition to being romantic partners much easier for both of you

additionally, as her closest friend you were already gamora’s confidant — so trusted that you were the first one she came to about any and all fears and concerns and frustrations with the rest of the group, so trusted that she’d often reconsider her stance and approach if you advised her against it, so trusted that you were the one she’d seek out when she was more sober than she wanted to admit in order to vent about the difficulties she’d faced in her life before meeting you all, and likewise she was the one you’d go to for all the same reasons — and consequently you entered your relationship without any secrets left to keep and felt no need to hide anything from each other going forward because of this established routine (after all, why would you change what isn’t broken?)

the shift from strictly platonic teammates and (in quill’s words) besties to romantic lovers and bedmates would have been extremely slow — slow enough that neither of you would be able to, in hindsight, point to an exact moment or timeframe where things felt noticeably different — and would have felt so natural that there wasn’t really an awkward crushing phase for you both to experience because you didn’t even notice the shift happening until you were well and truly on the other side of it

it wasn’t as if one day you were just friends and the next you were kissing. no. more like you both continued to get closer and touchier and more relaxed around each other as time went on and gamora got used to casual physical intimacy until one day you just looked at each other, realised something had changed, and quietly acknowledged it without saying anything or putting a label on it because it just felt right

you never called her your girlfriend, but she was the person you’d give your life to protect

she never claimed you as her lover, but you were the person she couldn’t bare to lose

you never said that she was more than a friend, but you were always at your happiest and most relaxed when she was safe by your side

neither of you cared about naming what was between you because all that mattered was how you both felt, but everyone else knew that you two cared deeply and intimately for each other and were generally just happy for you both

but that didn’t mean that the other guardians didn’t (often very crudely) tease the living hell out of you both when one of you emerged looking exhausted from the other’s bunk or when they caught gamora admiring you from across the room, and it certainly didn’t stop nebula from picking up on her sister’s feelings and very bluntly interrogating you both about your relationship after she joined your ragtag travelling group

Ugh, Terrans. They always think anything that comes from their mudball of a planet is the greatest thing to exist.

So yeah, to answer your question, Quill has made us play some of his stupid games, and then gets mad when I'm better at them than he is. That guy is one sore loser.

Monopoly was the first thing he made us play. It took us a little bit to understand the concept but once we'd picked it up it was pretty simple. Well, except for Drax. I don't think he understood anything, and neither did Groot because he was a baby so I let him team up with me.

Here's the gist of how it all went down:

>First, everyone argued over which token they wanted to play, so we had to resolve that by rolling dice.

>Groot kept putting all the pieces in his mouth.

>Drax took everything literally (as usual) and got upset whenever he was sent to jail or asked to pay up.

>Gamora started off trying to play it strategically but kept picking up chance and community chest cards that weren't in her favour which ruined her plans and really ticked her off.

>Me, Gamora and Quill ended up in a non-spoken competition to see who could buy up the most properties and stop each other from getting full colour sets.

>Quill got all huffy when anyone took the properties he wanted and kept accusing me of cheating because I was rolling so well.

>Gamora walked off while me, Quill and Drax were arguing and took Groot with her.

>Drax went bankrupt and accused me and Quill of conspiring against him, flipped the table claiming he would "no longer play this treacherous game with such dishonorable company," and stormed off.

>Me and Quill started blaming each other but then ended up laughing about it all.

I think Quill was pretty bumbed we never got to finish the game but hasn't been brave enough to suggest playing again knowing how poorly last time went.
