College kids doing college shit part 2
Literally no one is asking for more of my college kids but you're all getting more cause I love these guys and I need to share. So heres the next part of Brad and Ivy's story.
****
Her answer stuck in his head even hours later, the sting leaving a bitter taste in Brad's mouth as he reviewed the audio from class. 'Again', that was the word that rattled through his brain as he tried to focus.
"Who pissed in your cheerios?" Spark's voice snapped him from his thoughts as they plopped down in the seat next to him.
"What?" The dining hall was mostly empty and he pulled his earbud from his ear. Spark smirking slightly.
"You look annoyed," they stated, eyebrows raised, "what happened?" They clarified their question and he huffed.
"Asked a girl out," He replied shortly. They nodded.
"I take it she said no?" They asked.
"Not technically." He replied, "technically she said she had 'heard the joke before' and 'didn't want to be the punchline again'," he replied, Spark wincing.
"Poor girl," they replied, digging into their food.
"Who the fuck does that?" He asked, voicing the question that dug under his skin.
"You mean asks someone out as a joke?"
"Yeah." He answered.
"In my experience, asshole jocks." They replied. Brad scoffed.
"Men are fucking pigs." He sighed, Spark simply nodding in agreement.
"Sorry you got shot down," they said empathetically, a small smirk working its way into his face.
"But technically I didn't." He pointed out, "she said she didn't want to be a punchline, and I'm not joking. I just need to clarify that." He reasoned. Spark's brows drew together, a strict look falling on him.
"That sounds very 'Nice Guy'," they replied.
"I'm aware," Brad defended himself, "but don't I have the right to make my intentions clear?" Spark scoffed.
"I'm sorry, did I just just hear the cis, straight, white guy talking about his rights?" Spark fired back.
"Okay, first, we both know 'straight' is inaccurate, I'm more flexible than that," he smirked, Spark rolling their eyes, "second, what if the only reason she shot me down was cause she thought I was joking? I mean, if it's just a miscommunication, don't both of us deserve to have a clear answer?" Spark huffed.
"Maybe," they admitted, "but let the record show, you're breaking your own rules and this counts as 'pushing after being told no'," Brad rolled his eyes.
"The 'record' will show I'm bending my own rule, cause she didn't actually say no," he said, grabbing his recorder and tucking it into his pocket. "Now before you try and lecture me on my ego, I have a class to get to." He said, pushing in his chair as he walked away.
****
The guy, Ivy wasn't even sure of his name, sat in the same seat, when she walked into class a few days later. She huffed, walking up the auditorium steps to the seat she had picked, sitting down in the same place as before, pulling out her project again. He didn't say a word, and she expected it to be tense. She thought her rejection would have led to snide comments or glares but instead he barely acknowledged her, just a nod as she passed him climbing to her seat. He didn't turn at all during class and when their eyes caught as she packed up, He offered her a gentle smile, different from the smirk a few days before, and a small 'have a nice day' before he departed first. It was odd. Where she had anticipated hostility, he almost seemed indifferent, as if her rejection hadn't bothered him, and she felt like she could breathe again. At least she didn't have to worry about him bothering her any more.
****
The courtyard was quiet at dinner time, something Ivy always found herself thankful for. She had learned to love her solitary moments on campus, grateful for the peace that came with being alone. She was sitting against a tree, book in her lap when she felt the shift. She looked up to find the guy from class a short distance away. He was looking directly at her, paused on the sidewalk next to the tree, and she closed her book, anticipating his approach. The guy took two steps off the path, looking at her as he spoke.
"Can I sit?" He asked. Ivy paused, nodding shortly and he took another step before sitting down. He cleared his throat, speaking before she could form a witty remark. "Im sorry, but I keep thinking what you said the other day, when I asked you out, and who ever asked you out as a joke is a fucking asshole, and I'm really sorry that every happened to you." Any defensive remark died on her tongue, and he didn't give her a chance to respond, "here's the thing, I'm not joking. I think you're gorgeous, and maybe it's cause I've always had a thing of the goth, alternative vibe you've got going, but I'd love to take you on a date. Like a real one, so," he stood, pointing to a bench on the edge of the path, "I'm gonna be right there, tomorrow, 7pm, ready to take you to dinner. If you're not interested in me, stand me up, use it as chance to get back at whatever asshole fucked you over, but if you're willing to give me a shot, I can promise you, you won't regret it." He smiled, the same gentle one he had shown her after class. His smile and the sincerity in his voice made it hard to fight her own grin as she leaned over her book, one hand on her knee.
"And where do you think you're taking me?" She answered, keeping her neutral expression.
"Depends," he answered, "do you prefer Italian or Greek?"
"Greek,"
"There's a little greek place just off campus a buddy of mine suggested, I've never actually been there but maybe we can try it together." He replied without missing a beat. "Flowers or no?"
"What?" She answered, his question stunning her for a second.
"Not every girl likes getting flowers," he replied, "do you have a favorite?" He asked again. She paused. He was really serious. Ivy wasn't even sure of this guy's name, and here he was, asking if she wanted flowers.
"Carnations," she replied softly. He nodded.
"I'll remember that." He promised. Her tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth as his smile grew wider. "I'll let you get back to your book." He said, turning around. He was back on the path before she found her voice.
"I don't even know your name." She called after him. He turned, walking backwards without missing a beat.
"It's Brad," he chuckled, "Brad Murphy. Have a nice day, Ivy." He turned back around, walking away and leaving her stunned.

A Swen's Guide to the Into the Story-Verse Alternate Realities
Ladies and, in a broader sense, gentlemen, as December begins, weâre back with another entry to our humble guide, where we go through the alternate realities presented in the Into the Story-Verse fic - the last (for the time being) part of the Swan-Mills saga by the brilliant @swanqueeneverafterâ
And our regular readers will know which reality are we gonna discuss this week...
!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Code name: Gamma Reality
First entered: by Will Scarlet in chapter 11
Set: Wonderland (with flashes of Victorian England, the Enchanted Forest, and Agrabah), past till present-ish (itâs complicated this time, okay?)
Fixed by: true loveâs kisses - first between Will and Anastasia, second between Alice and Cyrus - both in chapter 47
Unfinished business: for Will - not giving up on Anastasia, for Alice - saving her brother (partly from himself)
Gamma reality is the longest-running alternate reality of all of the six realities portrayed in ITSV. Much like Beta Reality, Gamma influences our reality greatly, and even intertwines with it.
We follow the story of the Scarlet siblings from Aliceâs pitiful childhood spent in an asylum where her own father puts her after she returns from Wonderland. Thatâs where Will finds Alice when he enters this reality and with the help of the White Rabbit rescues her.
The driving force behind Gamma Reality is Jafar, who chooses this reality because itâs where Cyrus - the genie he needs the most hides. Cyrus, who as it turns out, Gamma Realtyâs Alice fell in love with in the past. Cyrus, who at the same time heâs in Jafarâs cell in Wonderlandâs past is kept locked in Hengistâs fortress and being searched for by his mother in our reality. Toldya, itâs... complicated.
As Jafar seeks to force Alice into using her three wishes so he could become Cyrusâs new master, Anastasia, or rather the Red Queen, works with him, because she wants to break the laws of magic and return back in time to change her fate as every other âevil queenâ.
The âproblemâ is, Anastasia may be a heartless bitch, but she still loves Will, and so the two love stories run next to one another, one almost naive - Alice and Cyrus, the other heartbreakingly bittersweet - Will and Anastasia. All the time Jafar tries to become Cyrusâs master and everyone else tries to stop Jafar for good.
Aliceâs wishes are actually when the twisty turny timey wimey business comes in, because Alice wishes Cyrus, his mother, and the White Rabbit into our reality, and since theyâre not human, the change of reality doesnât affect their sense of self, they can use being in the âfutureâ to their advantage.
Jafar ultimately ends up being turned into a genie himself after Amara returns the magical water to the Well of Wonders. However, before that, he managed to kill Anastasia - nothing a true loveâs kiss wouldnât fix though.
Letâs also not forget the powerful parallels of the father/son relationships of Jafar and Sultan and Will and Edwin.
And so, we leave the reality after Alice and Cyrusâ wedding, beautifully paralleled in our realityâs long-awaited wedding of Robyn and Alice.
SQ storyline
Like the Alpha Reality, Gamma Reality gave us a glimpse of Emma and Reginaâs story in this reality in the Epilogue, since the main storyline followed the Scarlet Siblings. Since this storyline hasnât been commented on before (well, by me), letâs briefly go over it...
Princess Emma asks her father whether the rumours of the Evil Queen returning are true, Charming tells her not to worry - oh, Charming, fear was the latest thing on your daughterâs mind...
...instead of staying in the safety of the castle, the Princess follows the Evil Queenâs tracks to a village to hear the truth about how Snow defeated the Queen and also to not so subtly ogle her motherâs nemesis...
...and because lust-filled stares werenât the only thing the two women exchanged, not long afterwards the Charmings find the Princess taking care of the Evil Queen, just not in the âkillingâ sort of a way (even though itâs not called la petite mort for nothing, I suppose)...
...which they do in the last moment we see them - the Evil Queen and her Warrior Princess laying waste to Snowâs kingdom and happy ending...
...Emma also informs them that sheâs joining Regina and theyâll soon take the kingdom back...

Sonic X: What If...? Poll
Explanations for if they're in Sonic X;
Mighty and Ray: They would be Sonic's friends and/or members of Team Chaotix.
Bean and Bark: They'd be independent antagonists, but they'd be more mischievous than dangerous.
Trip and Fang: Trip would be Sonic's friend from the start and Fang would be a recurring independent antagonist, serving as Trip's Arch-Enemy as well as rivals to Knuckles and Rouge.
Honey and Heavy King: Honey would be a recurring ally to Sonic and friends while Heavy King would be an ally to Eggman.
Silver and Blaze: Silver would be a rival at first, but would go on to be a friend and ally while Blaze's story would be like the Rush Games. They would only appear for a single story arc in the New World Sagas, but would come back as a main characters during the Metarex Saga.
Metal Sonic and Sage: They would be Eggman's prized creations and surrogate children like in the Games. Sage would serve as a counterfoil to Chris in regards to their parentage.
Sticks and Omega: Sticks would be a friend of Amy's that joins around the time Vanilla does. Omega would be built around the time the Sonic Adventure Adaption story happens, but like Gamma, he would rebel out of not being used to his full potential. Team Dark will be formed in the Metarex Arc.
Chip and Mephiles: Chip would be a friend of Sonic that stayed due to amnesia, but his identity as Light Gaia would be revealed during the Metarex Arc. Mephiles would have a backstory change. In this idea, Mephiles would be Dark Gaia and a recurring antagonist, especially during the Metarex Saga where he approves of the Metarex's genocidal schemes to kill all animal life.
Tangle and Whisper: Sonic and friends would meet them after being warped to Chris' world. They would remain as friends and allies to Sonic and company. Whisper's backstory would be altered slightly since Sonic Forces doesn't occur in Sonic X.
Jewel and Belle: Jewel would be a supporting character and ally to Sonic and company. Belle would have a backstory change where instead of being built by Mr. Tinker, Chris' grandfather Chuck would build and create her.
Surge and Kit: Like in the IDW Comics, Dr. Starline would create them. By the time the show happens, Starline is killed off trying to kill Sonic and overthrow Eggman. The Imposter Duo are recurring antagonists. They possibly reform later on in the series after experiencing praise of heroics by accidentally stopping a crime or stopping Eggman before Sonic.
Rough and Tumble: Like in the IDW Comics, the Skunk Brothers would be recurring independent antagonists, causing mischief than actual harm.

Dragon Ball Super Manga Ch. 94-96
We're still reading the Super Hero adaptation! It's not great!
Things continue pretty much like they did in the movie, although it's a little awkward how Chapter 94 opens with Pan waiting to get picked up from school, just like she was in Chapter 91, because Toyotaro wanted to show Piccolo doing a "normal" kindergarten pickup as a prelude to the story. And that might have seemed like a good idea on paper. You know, contrast a routine encounter with the zany scene we got in the movie. The problem is that it undermines the zany scene when we finally get to it. The whole point is that a "normal" version isn't that interesting to see, which is why they didn't show Gohan cooking breakfast or Dr. Hedo brushing his teeth in the movie.
Anyway, you read chapter 91 and it feels like they skipped to the middle of the movie because Pan's waiting at kindergarten. Then you get to Chapter 94 and you see Pan waiting at kindergarten again and think the story is starting over. Or was it preschool? The manga version has a sign over the property that reads "kindergarten", but Pan's only three so I don't know. Piccolo knocked her into a bunch of rocks earlier in the day, and now he's taking her home with a layover at Red Ribbon HQ, so the point of all of this is that nothing is really ever "normal" with Dragon Ball.
Back to the manga, Toyotaro drags out this scene by having a cop take notice of the Red Ribbon aircraft, but he immediately decides it's okay once he finds out it's for Mr. Satan's granddaughter. This might be the same cop who helped Goku find Bulma's house for the first time in the original Red Ribbon Army Saga, but I'm not interested in looking it up.
So once again, Toyotaro seems determined to cram in new material to this story, but it's always designed to be as dull as possible, answering questions no one asked. Why didn't Piccolo get a ticket for the aircraft being parked on the street? For the zero people who were concerned about this, Toyotaro heroically includes a traffic cop whose sole purpose is to remind us that it doesn't actually matter.
Chapter 94 continues up to the first leg of the Gohan/Gamma 1 fight. There's some changes to the fight choreography, but I'm not gonna do a side-by-side analysis or anything. It pretty much has to be different because of the medium involved. I'm pretty sure Gohan firing a Kamehameha is new, as is Gamma 1 shooting at him to counterattack. But I could be wrong.
While Gohan powers up to his Ultimate/Mystic/Elder Kai Unlock form, Krillin's family is just getting out of the movie theater where they watched Cleangod 2. I mentioned this scene before, but now that we're here, this is Teen Marron's only appearance in Dragon Ball Super, and here's the big pitch for the character: She's a huge fan of Cleangod. Just like Goten! And Trunks. And... Dr. Hedo. I'm not impressed.
Krillin senses Gohan fighting, then he gets a call from Police HQ.
For some reason, Krillin runs off and hides while he takes the call? Are people not supposed to know he's a cop? Everyone keeps staring at him the whole time, so if he's trying to keep this a secret, he's doing a lousy job of it. Also, when 18 asks him who he's talking to, she doesn't seem to believe his answer, so she insists on tagging along with him. Does... 18 not know Krillin's a cop? What is going on here?
The dumbest part of all of this is that Nutz is calling Krillin to tell him about the battle at the Red Ribbon Army base. Remember how she had Krillin follow Magenta and Hedo in Chapter 91? Because they knew Magenta had a secret base but they didn't know where it was? And then Krillin lost them before he could find it?
Okay, so apparently the police had suspected that it was in that crater lake, camouflaged by a hologram. In fact, they've suspected this for so long that they've been monitoring the lake with cameras, and when Gohan went ultimate he disrupted the hologram and revealed the base. Now they want Krillin to reconnoiter the area before they send in a bunch of guys.
This is just really dumb. I mean, if the police suspected the base was inside the lake, why didn't they just send Krillin to check it out in the first place? He could have gone there months ago, and if it was just a lake, the worst thing that would have happened is he'd get wet. But if it was a secret mercenary base, he could have just snuck in and out as easily as Piccolo did in this story. It would have been even easier, since Krillin's less conspicuous than Piccolo, and the Red Ribbon wouldn't have had Hedo's androids for support. Hell, Krillin could have taken out the entire base by himself, and all they had to do was send him to the lake that they were already monitoring.
Also, why is it the West City Police Department's job to bust the Red Ribbon Army? Isn't that a job for the Royal Military? None of this makes any sense. I mean, the purpose is to add more Krillin content to the story, but it's so forced that it becomes nonsensical. The movie makes so much more sense without the police involved at all. Again, it's another question that no one asked. "Why didn't the police find the Red Ribbon Army's hidden base?" Because it's a hidden base, that's why not!
Toyotaro seems almost desperate to give these fictional cops a chance to save face. Well they were trying very hard to locate the base, but they just couldn't find it before Piccolo did. Except his depiction of their efforts just makes them look worse. Sergeant Nutz seems to know everything about the Red Ribbon Army. She knew Magenta was secretly rebuilding it, she knew he was planning to contact Dr. Hedo, and when he would do it. She was even pretty sure where the Red Ribbon base was. Yet despite all this inside information, she still couldn't figure out how to respond to it.
All of this makes it look like a set up to explain Krillin showing up at the end of the movie, except, no, that's not what happens. He shows up at the end because Bulma calls him and tells him what's happening. Toyotaro saw the movie and thought: "No! That's not enough! We need three reasons for Krillin to go to the lake!"
1. He senses Gohan's ki from the battle. 2. Sgt. Nutz calls him and tells him to go check out the base. 3. Bulma calls him and tells him Piccolo is at the base.
Is that enough? Does Krillin have sufficient motivation to go yet? I'm not sure, let's throw in some more reasons.
4. Krillin is visited by the ghost of the pirates from that underwater cave. The ghost tells him that the Red Ribbon stole his treasure and hid it in the lake, so he pleads with Krillin to recover it so the pirates can rest in peace. 5. Marron really wants to check out the crater lake, becuase Cleangod 2 had a scene that was filmed there. 6. Vegeta briefly pops in using his manga-only Instant Transmission. He asks Krillin to check on a three-layer cake he ordered from the bakery, but Krillin mishears him and thinks he said "crater lake". 7. The Supreme Kai of Time deputizes Krillin into the Time Patrol and informs him of a temporal anomaly at the crater lake. 8. Krillin was going there anyway because it's on his way home.
Back to the fight, not much is different, although there's a brief moment where Piccolo coaches Gohan before they resume fighting their respective opponents. This is kind of redundant, because they both already understood they were fighting androids, and they're already in their strongest forms (as far as they know), so Piccolo is just stating the obvious here. At least he isn't telepathically summoning Krillin to get his butt over here. Piccolo actually trusts the plot of this movie.
The Gammas aren't quite as powerful in this version, so 2 has to give a little assist to 1, then they consider double-teaming Piccolo to improve their chances. This doesn't last long, though, since it's not like Gohan was just going to stand there and let Piccolo get beat down.
At Capsule Corp, Bulma starts assembling a squad to help Piccolo, and is surprised to learn that Trunks already knows about Dr. Hedo. She asks him why he never mentioned any of this before, and finally, finally, Toyotaro has come up with a question someone might have actually asked. Why didn't Trunks tell Bulma about all of this? Because he would have gotten in trouble for playing superhero, and also because Bulma wouldn't have taken his story seriously even if he had said anything.
So Bulma admits that she goofed, but now she ungrounds Trunks (and Goten, since he just showed up), and she wants them to join Piccolo in battle.
But she immediately regrets it, because Goten and Trunks can't pinpoint Piccolo's location with their ki senses. And this is Big Goten in a nutshell. The boys are eager to get in on the action, but they lack the skill and focus to be effective. They're basically the opposite of what Gohan was in his childhood. Gohan was constantly caught between adventure and study, and he ended up excelling in both things. But Goten and Trunks really don't get pushed hard in either direction. They don't have much motivation to study, and they're not very good at adventure stuff either. Bulma's giving them a chance to be heroes and they're blowing it.
Anyway, she calls Piccolo, and when he doesn't answer, she calls Krillin, which is the canonical reason they all show up together at the end of the story.
Oh, and here's an awesome shot of Cell Max. I can't stress this enough: The art in this thing is tremendous, but the writing is just dull as can be. Everything's either a rerun or a pointless filler scene.
When Cell Max crawls out to fight all the good guys, Goten and Trunks offer to give Piccolo and Gohan a breather, and they switch to their Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 suits. Pan's into it, but everyone else find it dumb. I guess Marron should have come along and maybe she'd enjoy this...

I said this on twitter just now and ngl i think i was cooking but
This is how i would have changed Beast Mode Gohan in Super Hero, and some plot points to make it hit better, and make more sense. Orange Piccolo too
edit: i came back to this to elaborate on some ideas more and to clean this up a bit. maybe a bit more dramatic and serious on this pass
Here are how I would make improvements.
I think, instead of just feeling like an ass pull powerup, from both Gohan AND Piccolo (if im being honest). I think Beasthan should have been more of a manifestation of his untreated, unaddressed anger issues and trauma. Super has a shitload of issues, but one of them is how they just keep repeating the same fucking (<- im being so normal about this) arc of Gohan not training, and then forced into a fight, saying he'll train, then he stops training, only to be forced into a fight again and saying he'll train. It drives me crazy in a way that the explanation "Gohan doesn't like to fight!" just doesn't make it add up.
Beasthan is a transformation triggered by absolute helplessness and anger, but something more than just an imitation of his SSj2 transformation from the Cell Saga. It could be caused by Piccolo being hurt, maybe even a dual event where Pan also gets caught in the crossfire. Those would be the trigger events, but laid upon a base of something a little deeper.
Even though he's finally a scholar (entomologist at that đ„č), he is stressing over work; but part of that stress stems from that little unaddresed trauma I mentioned. Its actively sabotaging him, making him more of a scattered mess than usual (thus putting him in a place where he has to rely on Piccolo for help with things like picking Pan up). This could all be hinted at in small bits here and there such Pan mentioning somewhere that "Papa seems like he's down lately". Shown a little when Piccolo shows up at Gohans house to talk about picking Pan up. And then also later when Piccolo approaches Gohan in his RR disguise.
Now I realize this is the Piccolo movie, and I'm giving Gohan a lot of light here. And fair enough. But I think Piccolo is at his best when paired with Gohan. You get the best from both when they're together. And I think finally illuminating Gohan's issues, also leads to growth from Piccolo.
During the fight with Gamma 1 is where Gohan really starts showing how Piccolo's manipulations are backfiring. Multiple times in the movie Piccolo makes some really weird, and out of character decisions that felt quite gross for his character if im being real. And they aren't treated as what they are. Beast Mode happening as a result of Piccolo's actions would give it more weight.
So there are stages.
First stage is Gohan's work stress.
Second stage is when he sees the video of a "kidnapped" Pan.
Third stage is disguised Piccolo "hurting" Pan. This puts him at the edge.
and the Fourth and Final stage is Pan getting hurt, combined with Piccolo and the Z Fighters during the Cell Max fight.
He essentially breaks, losing his entire sense of self. Almost like turning into an Oozaru. On the outside it seems to everyone else that his anger has once again thrust him further towards power like it had previously. An SSJ2 like event has happened, and Gohan has surpassed himself. Only, is that really Gohan's Ki? It feels off...
Gohan visciously attacks Cell Max in a way that lacks any of that trained control of a Martial Artist. Its animalistic. Its brutal. Its more than just Gohan being angered. But his power is incredible! He may have really surpassed himself this time.
Cell Max goes down, seemingly defeated. The Z Fighters celebrate. Yay!!! We did it the day is saved. They approach Gohan, including a revealed to be healed (via Senzu) Pan. But Piccolo holds her back, and yells for the others to get away.
But Piccolo suddenly thinks back to what Gohan told him earlier. Instead of the Saiyants, its about the behaviors of animals. About about how even docile animals lash out when they are cornered. Newfound strength when pushed to the brink. At the time Gohan had even mentions offhandedly, "Its kind of like Saiyans, huh?".
Something is wrong here.
Gohan turns on them. It is now that it becomes completely clear to Piccolo that Gohan has lost total control, and is not at the wheel. He blocks Gohan's attack on the others, sustaining VERY critical damage, and what ensues is an incredibly one-sided fight. Throughout he attempts to call out to Gohan and bring him to his senses, but its useless. Weakened from injuries sustained from Cell Max earlier, and giving his sole Senzu to Pan, its everything he can do just to block hits. Piccolo tries to use the fact that Gohan isn't "thinking", and is a mindless beast against him. But Gohan is evolving rapidly. His attacks are just as vicious, but getting smarter. Piccolo is losing. And at this rate; he will die.
Hopelessness creeping into his heart, a hit from Gohan sends Piccolo into the ground, and he is given a brief moment to think. There he makes a realization. He had made the same mistake as Goku. This wasn't just Gohan being green. Or being untrained and unpolished, losing control of his seemingly limitless power and potential. This was Piccolo's fault. He had been pushing Gohan towards this from the beginning. Just like Goku, he fell into the trap of thinking just because he knew what Gohan was capable of at his Best, he forgot about who Gohan was at his core. A gentle man, who loved fiercely. A man who wanted nothing more than to be a scholar.
And a man who detested fighting.
Having this realization, this is the moment he attains his Orange form. With newfound strength he jumps back into battle. Now, he's tanking attacks. The lumbering form is more than just a visual change. His defense has grown immensely, but no matter how you look at it, Gohan is still too strong and getting stronger still. Even with his strength, Piccolo can't defeat Gohan like this.
Grappling him, and using all his power just to hold Gohan back. Piccolo finally approaches this from a perspective rarely done in Dragon Ball. He tries to talk to Gohan. He gets vulnerable even. He acknowledges his treatment of Gohan from the Saiyan arc. He acknowledges the pain Gohan must be going through. Since he was five years old, his life has been nothing but endless fighting. With a father like Goku...
"Gohan, you were never given a choice, were you? It was fight or die; and back then I put everything on your shoulders. And now, after all this time, I've learned nothing. I've made the same mistake again."
Despite the struggle Gohan is still putting up, Piccolo attempts to remain steadfast. He tells Gohan that its that gentle, kind soul of his that saved him in the first place. He was a fool to forget that. He was a fool.
Cell Max, still alive, gets back up angrier than ever. But Piccolo is completely helpess, still grappling with Gohan and no clue if he is breaking through to him.
Gamma 1 and 2, along the the Z fighters fight back. But it seems hopeless. This is where #2 sacrifices himself in atonement, blowing both Cell Max and himself up. Its effective, destroying his legs and keeping him in one place. But Cell Max still has energy, enough to start to slowly create a planet ending ki bomb.
Piccolo, hopelessly watches on, unaware of the battle going on inside of Gohan. Piccolo's words di reach him, and Gohan wins his internal battle and regains his consciousness. Still retaining his Beast form, and with little time ar hand, Piccolo and Gohan charge up their attacks while the Z Fighters and Gamma 1 try to distract Cell Max and slow down the charging of his bomb.
And then together, after fully charged, they do a dual mentor/student Makankosappo (to parallel the father/son Kamehameha from the Cell games), killing Cell Max, and saving the day :)
And then, to wrap it up all nicely. At the end, Gohan admits to Piccolo that he doesnt completely hate fighting. Yea its true that he doesn't get a kick out of it the same way Goku does, but by fighting he can protect his family and the people he loves, AND he does get a certain satisfaction from it.
"Maybe its the Saiyan in me."
Gohan also thinks to himselr that he is always happy to fight by Goku and Piccolo's side.
Piccolo understands what's unsaid after learning Gohan was practicing the Makankosappo in secret. Making the comment "I guess I really don't understand you after all".
ALSO I think there was a complete missed chance to make Beasthans form to have elements of Oozaru similar to SSJ4. Showing that his power is derived from the ferocity of saiyan side of him, but still driven by the justice driven want to protect of his human side :)
Pan shows off her newfound ability to fly. Piccolo jokingly ribs into Gohan that Pan may have more potential than even he did as a kid, but then also points out that Theres also still hope to be found in the next generation, and that when Gohan fights, he will never have to fight alone.
I think this ties it all up into a neat little bow.
I won't claim that this is a Perfect solution, and probably comes off more as just fanfiction than anything. But to me it feels more impactful, and also addresses Piccolo's really weird vibe he has going on in the movie that felt SUPER ooc. I wouldn't have minded as much if it had been recognized for what it was. At least here, even if he does those things, it gets addressed in a way that allows both him and Gohan to grow. Instead of the two of them evolving separately and spontaneously without any real build up, it entwines their story together and makes it more whole. Piccolo attaining his Orange form due to his love for Gohan would be a really nice touch, because it would be a physical manifestation of how Gohan really did change him, and for the better.
I also know Dragon Ball tries to be very surface level in its depiction of "trauma" and doesn't necessarily acknowledge it for what it is. It doesn't have to be said verbatim, "Gohan has trauma", but even just acknowledging the effects Z's events have actually had on him would be so nice. And show don't tell fits the series much more.
#dragon ball super#dragon ball super hero#son gohan#piccolo#i like super hero a lot#but it is veryyyy weak and feels very cheap in dishing out meaningless powerups that have no weight to them#i loved how they mixed og dragon ball with modern dragon ball tho it was a treat
