Examples of what I mean (in order):
1) Metal Gear Solid series
/
2) Call of Duty series. You’re taught something like reloading or switching guns in the form of a shooting range. The controls aren’t actually said by the characters, but you understand that in order to switch your gun, you need to press a certain button.
Legend of Zelda series would be another good example.
I guess Ace Attorney works too as an example, but AA isn’t the greatest use of this style since it led to some funky storytelling (Phoenix literally gets amnesia, Phoenix and Mia not knowing what cross-examinations are)
/
3) Mario Party series right before a minigame / Danganronpa right before the trial begins / I think most strategy games, like the Civilization games, do this
/
4) Lots of older games, like Pac-Man and the early Mario games

Good thing I'm not a speedrunner; I can hear them out!
Ooh, I had a silly thought! Can we the players, provide feedback for the demons ttrpg? Perhaps over a glass of spiced rum?
Implementing strict out-of-bounds checking in my 3D platformer, but instead of actually forbidding the player from going out of bounds I just use it to create a demon that chases you around the OOB space, and if it catches you it engages you in a lengthy unskippable dialogue about the tabletop RPG it's writing, thereby killing your speedrun.

You know I used to think "tumblr's absolute refusal to actually engage with the Trolley Problem in favor of insisting that there must be a third, morally pure option that doesn't require them to make a hard decision and anyone who asks them to make a binary choice is just a short-sighted idiot is really fucking annoying, but I guess it's not actually doing any harm".
Anyway that was before we asked tumblr at large to decide between "guy aiding a genocide but making progress elsewhere" and "guy who would actively and enthusiastically participate in a genocide and would also make everything else much, much worse for everyone elsewhere" and the response was that there must be a third, morally pure option that doesn't require them to make a hard decision and that anyone who asks them to make a binary choice is a short-sighted idiot.

Personally, I think Cyberpunk 2077’s genitalia customization gimmick was just a publicity stunt.

people are drawing Steamboat Willie Mickey doing all this crazy shit and whatnot, but you could always do that. you can do that now, with current Mickey, just fine. it's fanart and it's legally protected. hell you could take Disney-drawn Mickey and put a caption about unions or whatever on it and it would still be protected under free speech and sometimes even parody law.
what is special about public domain is that you can SELL him. you could take a screenshot and sell it on a tshirt. you can use him to advertise your plumbing business. people have already uploaded and monetized the original film.
you could always have Mickey say what you want, but now you can profit off it.
