Miss Fisher may be a fictional character, but the gender inequality issues she addressed in the books and on the show were not. Taking tennis as an example, not until the 1973 US Open did men and women receive equal prize money, making it the first major sporting event in the world to do so. The “Phryne Fisher” who helped make that happen was the great Billie Jean King, who threatened to boycott the US Open because of unequal pay. The other three Grand Slam events followed suit, starting with the Australian Open, first in 1984 but consistently since 2001, and the French Open and Wimbledon in 2007.

Although progress has been made in the last century, in sports and other areas, the gap is still there. For instance, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that in 2024, American women earned 84 cents for every dollar earned by men on average. Other statistics showed that women earned less than men in more than 90% of occupations. On international Women’s Day, the United Nation asks us to join the celebration under the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”. Phryne would definitely be in the front line leading the effort.

Ace Attorney Investigations is unbelievably funny for opening with Edgeworth finding a body in his office and having a gun pointed at him, and you think, yikes poor Miles Edgeworth this IS the sort of thing that would happen to him but, wow, what bad luck.

and then the game flashes back to show, buddy, pal, amigo, you have no idea. That actually barely ranks Top 5 of awful things to happen to him that weekend.

haymitch having to address 4 different deaths for each district on his victory tour. can anybody hear me. haymitch likely having to play the narrative that the deaths of his family were mysterious unsolved murders and to even make it so, partake in the humiliation ritual of public funerals held within the capitol. haymitch having to keep distance from the other victors because he really is a killer and cannot face it. 47 faces and 47 graves dug all because of him. is this thing on. haymitch being forced to mentor tributes he likely knew as classmates or school peers for the first few years of his victory. can you hear me do you understand !!!! haymitch having his games pulled from every possible outlet and blacklisted because of the shocking nature and traitorous way of his win. haymitch likely facing so much scorn amidst all the grief just for surviving. just for making it back home.

OK so the thing about this is that they've been working together for ages. But given it's the reason Jack is finally told not to work with a civilian, and their reactions to it all - especially Phryne's - it certainly seems to be the first time they've come up like this in the paper.

So how long had reporters been waiting to be able to write about them? Did it cause a bit of a stir when The Globe finally got there first? Frederick Burn must have been paid handsomely.

Yes, I've already played Raincode!! Really enjoyed it, especially for the DR-like vibe and I actually made charms of the main cast:
