I don't know if they ever touched on this, but I wonder what Pidge told her mom when she left for the Garrison. Like what can you tell your Mom who has just lost her husband and only son that you're going away for a little bit. How on earth did Colleen let her 14? I think 14 year old daughter like just leave? (She's 15 in season 8 but I refuse to believe they've only been in space for a year; she also says "running away" but i think that's in reference to going to space and not the Garrison? But idk)

am I the only one that wants to go to the galaxy garrison? every time I watch voltron and the scenes at the garrison come on I just want to jump through the screen and walk around. one of the only ways to get myself to study is to pretend I'm studying for a test at the garrison lmao.

We’re fandom posting, because my random career based knowledge needs to be used for something.
For Voltron -
Now, given Voltron occurs in the far future compared to our time, my knowledge is either useless or applications have changed. For example, kind of how in Star Trek you see kids learning advanced topics at a young age.
Shiro and Matt:
Here are some credentials that they would both have according to NASA’s current requirements.
Both at least have their masters, or are test pilot certified.
I can see Shiro being a test pilot school graduate and Matt having some sort of accelerated masters. Either way, they’re both highly educated. I’d love to write fics where the fact Matt has at least a masters and a couple years of work experience is mentioned, especially with how young he is. What was his thesis and major!
Also, after hanging out around pilots, I want to see Shiro with pilot-specific traits. No wonder this guy has nerves of steel and can escape a galran warship while half-drugged, he practiced emergency procedures and has undergone hypoxia training. With the education alone, I want to write fics where Shiro is very nearly enraged that he can’t figure out how the lions fly. Pilots typically have in depth knowledge of their aircraft. In general aviation, you are certified for the aircraft you train in and need separate endorsements for different aircraft after that. Shiro probably had highly technical and personal knowledge of the aircraft he flew at the garrison. Him learning to trust his lion is a big deal, especially since how it flies disregards all of his knowledge of flight and aeronautics. He also probably had 1000 of flight time in a jet aircraft, which, holy shit thats a lot.
Matt and Shiro have undergone astronaut candidacy school, and if NASA was the predecessor to the Galaxy Garrison, were called ASCANS. Do with that what you will. Astronaut candidacy school is a two year program that turns candidates into astronauts. They both learned Russian, how to scuba dive, how to fly jets, and the other basics of how to live in space. Afterwards, they received training for their specific mission or were assigned to a variety of roles within NASA, including public appearances (sound familiar? Maybe when Shiro met Kieth?) or Mission Control. Mission specific training can last three years.
Imagine Matt and Shiro in the same ASCANS group. The chaos!
Couples cannot fly missions together in space. Personally, I headcannon that Adam and Shiro had their relationship under wraps because of this. A lot of test pilots become instructors, and it has been a background for some astronauts, explaining Adam’s role at the Garrison.
Astronauts also need so many hours of jet flight logged a week. Don’t imagine Shiro and Adam dunking on Matt because he is horrible at flying jets.
(Shiro, over the radio: Matt-
Matt: Shut up Shiro
Adam: No seriously, Matt-
Matt: If you fucking say-
Shiro: Right rudder
Matt: I’m going to make you both smoking holes in the Arizona sand)
Military flight school is highly accelerated. Like, your private pilot training is done in a matter of weeks. Also, military pilots do not receive civilian ratings. It means that a trained fighter pilot has to sit in a tiny Cessna 172 (or any other small plane) and get certified like the rest of us. There’s a post-season 8 fic idea.
During the interview process for NASA astronauts, it’s been hinted at that the candidates are put through stress tests. At the very least, they go through a battery of psychologists. You have to be at least very good at interviewing.
Microgravity in low earth orbit, and in general, causes rapid bone density loss and muscle loss, unless astronauts work out in space to reduce these effects. If Shiro’s condition was muscular in nature, it would have been exacerbated.
Microgravity also causes your bodily fluids to move upwards, so astronauts are constantly congested. It also gives them a preference for spicy food! As such, spicy meals are popular among ISS astronauts while they are deployed.
There have been cases where astronauts have had to navigate by the stars and hand fly spacecraft when navigation and guidance systems fail, like during the Apollo 13 mission. Because of this, all astronauts are trained in astronomy and using the stars for navigation. When Shiro says he doesn’t recognize the constellations in the pilot episode, he was probably terrified! One of their only ways to navigate is now obsolete, and you would have to be very far out of our solar system to no longer recognize the constellations.
The shuttles from the shuttle program had to be hand flown on landing, and essentially landed like a normal plane on a runway, with minimal flare on landing.
Astronauts are known for having a very specific outlook. They’re trained to react very well in a crisis. This does explain a lot of Shiro and Matt’s behavior throughout the series.
Astronauts are known for having an extremely strong brotherhood as well. Apollo era astronauts were known for pulling pranks while they were stationed at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Also, astronauts will be stationed at different posts during other astronauts flights. If you want to write fics where any Garrison member is flying a jet to spot a fellow Garrison astronaut landing for splashdown in the ocean, or with another Garrison astronaut in Mission Control, that has actually occurred with Apollo astronauts!
Astronauts are typically as much experiments themselves as they are scientists. They are used to study the physical effects of space on the human body for future missions, sometimes to also try and make space more accessible in the future. Say, maybe that’s a clue in to how Shiro passed all of the strict medical requirements? Maybe he wasn’t supposed to. Pilots also face highly strict medical requirements for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st class medical certificates.
The “overview effect” was a psychological effect of spaceflight first recorded in the Mercury seven astronauts. It’s a feeling described as “awe and self-transcendence” that occurs when astronauts look down at Earth for the first time from space. There are many cases of astronauts walking away thinking of the unity of humanity and how we are one species. I’d love to see this written about, with any of the Voltron cast.
That’s all for now!!! I have wayyyy more besides this, but this is just some of my favorites

Pre Canon Voltron headcannons Bc I Can. Part 1(?)
Keith has dyed his hair red before, (specifically before meeting Shiro and then once at the garrison to piss Iverson and Sanda off.)
Shiro knows how to give himself a (non sexual obvi) massage.
After finding out Keith’s holiday plans consisted of staying in his shared room at his foster parents, Matt and Shiro invited over for the Holt/ Shirogane-Whatever the fuck Adam’s last name is family dinner. And he hasn’t missed one sense, even when in the desert.
Keith taught Pidge how to pick a lock and how to defend herself, while Pidge taught Keith his way around a computer.
Keith knows first aid. (Bc his dad was a firefighter, he grew up in the desert, and bc he was always getting himself in trouble.)
Matt and Keith pranked Iverson and Sanda a lot (unbeknownst to everyone else because they would get in a whole lot of trouble obviously)
Matt and Keith were roommates.
On the anniversary of his dad’s death, you could find Keith under his bed frame or in some other odd place with music playing. Matt covers for him in class while Shiro and Adam ask for the day off and hang out with him, usually in silence.
Adam, Shiro, and Iverson were all in the same book club.
Adam and Shiro have the occasional double date with Sam and Colleen (it consists of Sam trying to get Shiro to call him something other than Science Officer Holt and Adam and Colleen swapping recipes)
That’s all for now

New Fic: Raise a Glass
Summary: Galaxy Garrison Cadet Trey Johnson had just been trying to right a wrong, restore a little balance to this screwed up world because there was nothing right about Lance Esposito, that stupid, pathetic cargo pilot, being considered a hero. It was just supposed to be a little beatdown, a lesson. But now here he is with Lance stuffed into a barrel and freedom from this hellhole at his fingertips as he prepares to trade this Paladin of Voltron to the Galra and he’s starting to think that maybe he’s not just balancing the scales… he’s finally tipping them in his favor.
Chapter snippet:
The grainy screen showed the image of one of the main conference rooms and given that there was no audio for this feed — at least on the channel Joe could access — it wasn’t normally one they watched as seeing the upper echelon sitting around talking and the quality rendering it impossible to even attempt lip reading made it useless.
But today there was a different set of people in the room with all the higher ups.
The Paladins of Voltron.
And…
Trey’s gaze narrowed in on one particular figure that he knew Alex was scowling at too.
Lance Esposito, former cargo pilot turned fighter, looking as though he hadn’t aged a single day and it just made Trey want to punch that pointed face even more as his hand drifted up to his own, puckered with shrapnel scars.
He was standing between Keith Kogane — whohad not only aged but was carrying himself with far more authority than the rebellious, asshole teen he’d once been but even with those qualities he had been acknowledged and respected for his sheer talent as a pilot — and the apparently alien princess introduced as Allura, and even with the low-quality feed there was no denying she was drop-dead gorgeous.
And that fighter pilot wannabe was standing there like he belonged with the likes of them.

((I hear Tumblr is broken tonight. This is mostly a test to see if anyone can see my post. PS The ask box needs some more fuel before i reply to any more asks. I like to have a few in the box before I reply to them.))
How have I been?
Busy, The General has me doing tasks that are so time-consuming and draining. This base is cool but very confusing to get around. I keep getting lost.
If you have any questions you would like to ask me. I can do my best and give a reply.

What do I yearn for?
That one Voltron fanfic I read on ao3 where the garrison was looking into young Keith family because they suspected him of being not completely human. If I can’t find it… I may have to write it. I may write it anyway

His dad hums. “I don’t know, I think I can kinda see where the kid’s coming from. Maybe next time, you can ask him what he means. Start a conversation about it.”
“I don’t want to start a conversation about it,” Keith grumbles. “I’ve been trying to avoid conversation.”
“He’s just trying to be friendly, Keith,” his father chuckles. “It’s not the worst thing in the world.”
Maybe it is, Keith thinks, but doesn’t say. “Whatever,” he mumbles instead. “So, what’s the new gossip about Mrs. Finkle and the guy who keeps digging up her rose bushes?”
-
Keith Kogane joins the Galaxy Garrison with a mission, and that mission does not include making friends or falling in love. Fate, evidently, has other plans.

The Galaxy Garrison sucks ass and this is why I think so Part 1
I rewatched another vf episode and got reminded of my hatred for the Galaxy Garrison, this is my OWN interpretation. Voltron as a whole never gave enough context about the GG to ever show it in a purely positive or negative light. I'll be excluding VLD, Beastking Golion, Armored Fleet Dairugger XV ,and the comics here since that's a hard reboot, the original Japanese dubs have nothing to do with each other, and the comics are their own seperate beast.
This part will be focusing on Defender of the Universe and slighty Vehicle Voltron, more parts will be added by show
Parts: 1 2 3
Rant after the cut for dash reasons, feel free to add your own opinions and/or additions to the post, I really want to hear about other interpretations of the GG!
I'll be upfront about this, some of my hatred does stem from headcanons my mutuals and I have made up so I'm going to try my best to stick to what we have in canon and why I think it portrays the GG negatively
Starting off with Voltron Defender of The Universe (dotu) with a slight Vehicle Voltron (vv) connection I don't know about the rest of you, but sending the people who, and many fans would agree, are getting positive recognition in the Academy somehow to the point where officials are WATCHING them into the deep universe isn't a good idea. You'd keep your best soldiers close to home and only send them out if necessary So tell me why the Garrison decided to ship 5 important cadets out onto The Explorer with 15 other cadets (presumably) who have similar qualifications to them It's because they're all misfits, somehow, someway, the Garrison wanted them gone, and what better way to get rid of them without a good reason than to send them off chasing a fairy tale and walk them straight into enemy territory under the guise of "looking for new habitable worlds" while also testing an experimental mech Not to mention two of these cadets were CHILDREN, yes I'm talking about Pidge and Chip, there is no reason for them to be out there FIGHTING so young
Now solely focus on DOTU In dotu we know the original team of 5 get sent out to Arus but don't make it before being enslaved by the 9th Drule Kingdom, the kingdom King Zarkon rules over I'm not going to entirely blame the GG for that one, however they WILL get blamed for SENDING THEM TO A PLANET THEY KNOW IS INFESTED WITH ENEMIES I will admit I haven't watched dotu in it's entirety or recently at all so that last part could be wrong, please correct me if so Once again I'm bringing up Pidge, WHY SEND A CHILD WHO IS COMMONLY PLACED AT 12 IN AGE TO A WAR RIDDEN PLANET, being sent on a mission like this practically alone with 4 other basically equally inexperienced cadets means they had to have graduated early to even do it! And when they finally got to Arus and Voltron, they didn't know jack shit! They were completely in the dark and forced to fight not just for their survival but for the planets and even the universes too! Just the damn 5 of them until Sven got got and couldn't fly! Now given they tried to find a new pilot and Allura immediately stepped up, not giving them much of a chance to fight, but they likely still hailed the GG for another pilot! And they never even sent one out! The one time the Garrison ever sent someone out, he almost killed the team because he was a shitty leader! Not to mention this is likely their only other attempt at helping Arus! There was no back up from them, they just left Arus and it's people to hide in tunnels and hope they werent found and enslaved by the 9th kingdom! The 5 boys were the only people that ever gave help, and that's because they went against orders to do what's right, something the GG could never convince themselves to do In following the trend of the Garrison being absolutely useless, Balto was an allied planet, who most definitely had Garrison bases on them if the Stoker twins got drafted, WAS OBLITERATED BECAUSE THE GARRISON COULDN'T BE DAMNED TO HELP THEM OUT Now I'm sure the bases that WERE there did help the people evacuate, but that doesn't clear their name since other than that there was no help to even DISTRACT the robeast I say distract because obviously regular military forces can't take a robeast down, but Voltron can, and if they at least did that then Pidge wouldn't have had to watch his home planet be destroyed by his very eyes There's another side to this in saying that the GG was too far too do anything, to which I response, oh no they werent If Balto was way out there and was an allied planet with GG bases on it, how many other nearby planets were also allied? How many GG bases were notified of a robeast and told to not engage or even go HELP a planet in need?
Next part will be about VV also with DOTU connections since they're supposed to be happening at the same time

Two stories for Shiro lovers
I have two stories that run around like mad in my head. Both are dear to my heart.
PreKerberos
This story follows an OC in her academy days years before Kerberos.
She is invited to the Garrison after meeting Sam Holt at a Science Fair. He is very interested in her concept for an AI robot. Despite her not winning first place, he give her his card and has her contact him.
She gets a full ride in as a mechanic.
She works on the planes and equipment the pilots use.
As much as she loves working on the planes, she hates heights and flying.
She has a motorcycle hoverbike.
She meets a young Shiro when she is ground crew. They don't have any classes together. But she gets earfulls from the girls around the Garrison about him.
She works directly under Sam Holt.
Shiro bumps into her outside the Garrison at a mechanic shop to pick up something for his hoverbike. She is there to order parts for her bike.
Shiro swore he has seen her around the base before. He asks what kind of bike she has after the second time he sees her at the shop.
He sees her in the garage fixing her bike. Okay, now he's interested.
They wind up talking and becoming friends over their bikes.
They go out racing. She almost always loses.
She works on the plane that helps Shiro breaks records.
They start to date after a couple years of friendship. She just teases one day asking if their trips out to "The Ridge" are dates. This catches Shiro off guard. "Only if you want it to be," after he stutters.
They do break off months prior to Kerberos because Shiro starts to realize he is gay. He doesn't want to hurt her, he cares about her.
She knows. She sees how he acts around the other man and how distant he has become.
She removes herself from Kerberos mission as Head Ground Mechanic.
She avoids Shiro.
Holt notices her absence. Holt goes to make sure she is okay.
Shiro tries to say goodbye to her.
Kerberos launches.
Kerberos fails.
Garrison blames her. It is unheard of to have a head mechanic leave before a mission. It's against protocol.
Adam does punch her out of anger and grief when he sees her.
She gets discharged from the Garrison.
She does come back years later after Commander Holt asks for her to return to work on planes for him.
4 Kerberos
This is the raunchy one that loves to run around in my head like mad. It scratches that "during paladin time" itch.
4 people went on the Kerberos mission.
All get separated.
It follows the OC around as she gets bought and sold through the Galra fleet.
Her rescue takes place immediately after rescuing Sam from Zarkon.
She stays with the group until Sam goes back to earth. She doesn't feel like she provides any use in the Castle. On top of the fact she finds herself getting ill, which she chalks up to malnourishment.
She helps Sam give the report. She is silenced because of her lower rank.
She helps Sam make Atlas.
Basically this is a ton of PTSD and trauma.
This is a long shot to see if anyone is interested. I know the fandom is long dead. Especially after the disastrous S8 ending.
But my hyperfixation is back. I'm willing to share if anyone is interested.

Heyyy I hope your doing well and I hope your resting and not wasting all your free time answering these! Don't forget to drink alot of water and sleep at least 6 hours night. I just wanted to know your thoughts on how Lotor would react to being at the garrison. Meeting his last bullies, classmates, least favourite teachers and so on. How would he respond to both them and Keith. Would he show him off more or something like that? Again rest plenty and only answer when you feel like it.
@stinkyexhaust: So if Lotor were to find out about how much of a prick James was to Keith, how do you think he would react? I mean I don't hate James in fact I think he honestly could have had way more screentime to showcase more of his personality and backstory, especially in regards to Keith.
-
Honey if I only got six hours a night I would be the living dead, but this is very sweet of you nonetheless ♡
I've been asked something of a similar vein once before, as well as the Garrison's reaction to Keith's relationship with Lotor, and I'll repeat now what I said then: it's an important thread of the keitor dynamic (to me at least) that Keith & Lotor strengthen one another by allowing for personal growth beyond simply fighting on their partner’s behalf. So while Lotor mightn't be fond of certain figures from Keith's past—particularly given the little he learnt in chapter 24 about Iverson's handling of the Kerberos fallout—he knows and respects that Keith is more than capable of fighting his own battles, and wouldn't want to interfere with that (something something, galra sense of honour, you get it).
...All that being said, would our favourite prince be practically chomping at the bit to let it be known that he is the man who gets to stand beside Keith Kogane, Blade of Marmora, Paladin of Voltron, and Love of his Life? Yes. yes he would.
With regard to James specifically, it is my personal reading of his relationship with Keith that it was a very poorly handled mutual crush, and yet it was this very antagonism between them that pinged the galra part of Keith's brain in all the right ways. The altercation canon showed us in s7ep01 (which, despite LB being canon-divergent post s4, does in fact remain canon within my narrative bc I actually thought every insight we were given into James & Keith's past was impeccable) wherein James insulted Keith's parents, was a classic case of projection on his part; James strikes me as a privileged kid whose family expected nothing less than perfection—for him to be the best of the best at everything at all times—so I think that effortlessly-exceptional Keith getting the group into trouble simply because he was bored led to an exceedingly cruel comment,,, but I don't believe James actually knew Keith was an orphan when he said what he said.
Naturally, Keith (and we as the viewers with full knowledge of his backstory) assumes James intended to end that taunt with "before they died / abandoned you" but I'm not convinced. James could have just as easily been about to say "before they shipped you off to the military / halfway across the state / out of sight and mind" which I think is exactly what happened to him, leaving him understandably hurt, bitter, and desperate to prove himself. So yes, James—as a volatile teenager with abandonment issues, and oh look, who does that remind you of—fucked up, and payed the price of Keith's fist in his face; ultimately though, I think of Keith as having long since moved past it, and if he doesn't hold a grudge against Griffin, then why would Lotor? Particularly when, by galra standards, that specific instance was been resolved through rite of combat, and the rest of their relationship was, to an Imperial eye, just normal teenage brawling ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I appreciate some of you liking my insults towards the security at the Galaxy Garrison. I try to be funny every so often while trying to make a point, and it seems that my metaphors/similes work. That gives me a bit of an ego boost.
