Tokyo Afterschool Summoners is an lgbt gacha game from Japan, where the men are the ones getting sexualized.

Gates from different worlds open up in Tokyo, bringing in mythological and folk creatures. There are characters from Egyptian mythology, Chinese mythology, lovecraftian mythos, and even Christmas themed characters. And all of them are queer.

The story starts off rough and I didn't like the beginning. But it gets really good and the characters have a way of leaving a lasting impression on you. Like for instance the Krampus character is a big superhero nerd who hates his role as dark Santa.

It's like a long battle shonen anime, but this time the homoerotic rival is actually homo.

The game is mainly aimed at gay men and furries, and most of the artists are gay men who draw nsfw furry doujinshi. If you follow Japanese gay furry artists you might have noticed some of the characters they created. There are a bunch of women, who are usually out serving the men imo, and a few characters are trans, but it is largely aimed for cis gay men. Though it's fun that bisexuality is the default sexuality in the story itself and it isn't just a player sexual thing, though there's that too.

The game can be suggestive with the art but isn't explicitly sexual.

Be warned some characters are minors and there's shota bait sadly.

Gameplay is pretty lackluster, and it is a gacha game after all so grinding is the main focus. However with so many characters you'll still end up unlocking a good chunk of them, and some of the older ones are basically free to unlock. Really the only ones that are hard to unlock are the alts of existing characters.

The company behind it, lifewonders, also has another game, LiveAHero. Similar concept except this time you're unlocking superheroes. Recently Nagabe designed a very sexy twink for that game (who's sadly limited).

I hope this was a good explanation. If you're fine spending a few minutes every day logging in to this mess and letting it ruin your life please go ahead. Dreamtale sans, otherwise known as dream sans, or simply dream, is, allegedly, part of a quite frankly very irritating and pitiful group of characters known as 'mary sues'.

but do those allegations hold any weight? That's my job to figure out.

SECTION 1A: WHAT IS A MARY SUE?

A mary sue is a usually female character who has no flaws and is loved by (almost) everyone. They are often given 'flaws' such as being too nice or being too generous by the creator to seem less like a mary sue. They are also always better than everyone else, and extremely overpowered. Mary sues often ruin the media they are in because of the one writing them making them so much better than everyone else, meaning that everyone else is forced to be portrayed as worse than them, and back to everyone liking them, anyone who disliked them gets portrayed as unreasonable, excessively abusive (think the mum from those hated child becomes hybrid princess gacha life mini movies) or wrong in every aspect. They are also often given overpowered abilities and elaborate designs.

SECTION 2B: EVIDENCE CONCLUSION

The short version of section 1B.

In the first couple pages of the comic, Dream is portrayed as everything good, in contrast to his brother, who is portrayed as everything bad. Dream shows concern for Nightmare when he starts distancing himself from everyone due to the intense physical bullying from the village he's suffering, but doesn't actually do anything to help besides the comic mentioning he tried to verbally comfort him. Nightmare, wanting to be loved and show everyone he can be useful like his brother, took one of the golden apples from the tree, corrupting it. Even though his body should've stopped the pure negative energy from touching it. Dream gets portrayed as goody two shoes again by the comic mentioning he was helping some villagers and took a golden apple with him to help the terminally ill. The whole village goes rampant due to the tree's corruption and tries to kill Nightmare. Dream fights them off instead of barring Nightmare's consumption of the apples. Nightmare becomes pure malice and hate due to eating so many. Dream sobs over his brother, even though this isn't about him. He then has a magical girl transformation with a 'defensive weapon' because he doesn't want to hurt his brother. The stupidity makes Nightmare beat his ass and turn him into a statue. Nightmare cuts down the tree of feelings. End of comic.

Not sure if its a hot take, but,

I just recently finished Jack Jeanne (an Otome Game; which is actually 80% common route lol / the creator of Tokyo Ghoul are involved, similar to how Yana are to TWST) and man, i kinda get why some people would want TWST to be an otome or VN or something similar (jrpg style maybe, but i guess that's a bit over the budget lol). It actually shows me that, yes there's an otome game that actually put focus on friendships with a strong and stable plot! because i know some people say that being an Otome would ruin this game; and hey, i get it - most otome just involves a lot of pining - but look! There's this Otome game that...not really your typical Otome Game (there's even a neutral/true route that solely focus on the MC's growth (or worsen *wink wonk*) as a person - something i wish TWST do, because at this point Yuu are...a cardboard; their existence doesn't matter much // and i kinda wish Yuu are voiced with an androgynous voice but oh well, they need to be a self insert, so...). Yes there's romance on it but like... it's only at the end and each character actually have their own story and problem!! (And the romance only happen if You Chose it! The game even ask you TWICE if you want romance lol like "are you sure? Are you sure you don't want to be single?" And most "romance increasing event" are very...friendship coded (what am i saying lol?) with each characters clearly has a life and friends and family!). Though i do get that some character (mostly Ortho, because he is a child, nevermind that he's a first year and a robot - he has a body of a child) would have to go, and it is a bummer - however! i can still see him as a side chara that can have its own platonic ending and can heavily involved with Idia's plot point (Jack Jeanne has an "ending" for each side character the MC ever met, i love it - i actually fall in love with a side character :') before realizing he is an extra but then happy that there's an ending CG for him - that smile THAT SMILEE). And for those who say Otome can't be dark, listen, a suicidal character with a mommy and daddy issue (usually abusive) is a staple in many otome game - so that's not an issue. Tho i do get it if the romance aspect (kissing and stuff, but i don't think there's any Otome game that gave more than kissing tho...if there is then that's an eroge..i think?) are off putting - frankly I feel icky with kissing or any nsfw cg in Otome game (but those things are often skipable with a few quick clicks; sometimes i close my eyes too - ok now i sounds like a child and I don't know how to feel about that lmao) but would go crazy for every hand holding, comfort hug and platonic iloveyou (hence why the MC having a friend is important - Grim, Ace and Deuce fulfill this, hell every first years (including Ortho) kinda fulfil this; which makes sense because they're the ones Yuu and Grim probably see the most! The other characters, not so much, despite every event try to push Malleus as Yuu's friend, I can't see it. I loves this sebastian-expy with his design plus voice BUT I just can't.)

i just wish we could see how TWST actually are if all the plot points and characters (and Yuu too) are much fleshed out like it is a finished story instead of this trend every gacha game have (and frankly the diasomnia arc is a bit...long; they are really squeezing this arc dry so Yuu doesn't have to come home lol). I get it, maybe if TWST is a VN (or an Otome, because i know that the term Otome puts some people off and people do tend to look down on it) it won't make that much of a money, unlike how it is right now...and we know how much d**ney loves money. Anyway, i should stop. Sorry for the incoherent ranting lol

While I'm not sold on the idea of TWST as an Otome game (read as "dating sim"), I do think elements such as multiple routes and choices that effect the outcome of the game would vastly improve the gameplay experience. This is mostly to benefit the MC, but multiple routes and choosing what characters to focus on really does open up the possibility to focus on understated relationships if you choose to get to know those characters more.

As one who doesn't really play Otomes or VNs, I can understand what you mean, at least from a theoretical writing standpoint. There is a lot to be said about the game being a complete story and not having to wait for things to come together over the course of years of updates. But the biggest boon really would be to the MC/Player character. It's exceptionally frustrating to be given shallow, no stakes, choices that don't effect the gameplay at all and the MC/Yuu comes across with as much personality as a wet towel. We don't get to sass people that often and the longer the game goes on the more the story forgets that Yuu (you) are even a part of it. I want a version of the game where I can kick Grim into the gutter and actively cause his overblot because that would be interesting. I totally get it. While I'm not convinced this game would inherently have better writing if the characters were all romanceable (as some people really want to convince me), the idea that you get to form Yuu's relationships with the characters and have that reflected in the story is solid--even if they are just canonly platonic. Heck, all we really want is some MC acknowledgement and the ability to act like we make a difference because that's what was presented to us with the whole "Beast tamer" spiel at the outset. The MC used to take part in events and actually do things that would validate the cast seeing them as a friend, or rival, or annoyance, or what have you. But that's going off on a tangent.

There is a lot you could do with it and I can see the appeal.

(Imagine being able to interact with certain characters and essentially choosing which dorm Yuu is hanging out most during free time. Heck that doesn't even have to really effect the main story that much, just let there be options!)

Project moon has ruined me. Everywhere I go, I hear coin tosses and dice rolls. It can’t be stopped. I often snap my fingers to calm myself, I go shopping and I find a piano named Roland. I pass through a library and immediately think about Ruina. I can’t go to an office without thinking about full-stop office, I finally get to work and they installed Kali linux on every single computer and I can’t stop myself saying “HAHA MANAGER ESQUIRE, THIS IS THIS !” I look for clothes to have a new (todays) look, but hold on- is this made of nuovo fabric- oh no... I can’t greet people nowadays. Hello? Goodbye. I go to Mcdonalds (local HamHamPangPang) to wellcheer myself up, but while browsing through my phone watching Fullmetal Alchemist, they show the tree of life! And I can’t even play Persona without going into mementos and thinking oh this areas are based off the qliphoth tree. The entire Final Fantasy franchise is ruined for me, Sephiroth? One winged Angela?? Yesterday I was playing “im on observation duty”, and you have to watch out for Anomalies. Don’t they mean Abnormalities??? I can’t learn(2) any language because when it comes to numbers, there will always be a point where I will be reminded of an association or a sinner, I can’t enjoy nature without thinking about Dongbaek’s EGO, these flowers(hana) sure are nice, but wait is that a Hornet? Animals are banned, especially the ones that start with R. I can’t play other gachas besides limbus, I went to play Honkai and I saw there was a Kafka banner, so I logged off and went to Arknights, waiting as my assistant was.. you guessed it, Kafka, so I made the daring decision to go to the base and OH MY AYIN THEY HAVE A CONTROL DEPARTMENT, so I quickly went to change my agents, I mean operators and there he was, Mr Nothing. The phrase Nothing there triggers me like a lobotomized Agent so I shut down my phone. I went to play Devil May Cry, but couldn’t get past the introduction. I can’t see legs without thinking of blue star. I can’t write without thinking wow I’m making a key page! I can’t read to-do lists, but I also can’t read in general. I can’t think about myself because that would make me an egoist. I also can’t watch blue lock now that I think about it.. Colors are banned, but also black and white because that would be similar to T corp. so I have to just close both eyes (Angela reference?), and embrace the fear, and break the cycle. Venting a bit.

I hate feeling so conflicted in relation to something I'm so passionate about.

There's a lot of thinly-veiled casual misogyny and bigotry writhing around the GFL community that I've personally witnessed being completely unchallenged in open, actively moderated spaces. Ranging from "jokingly" hating anyone who picks the female commander in GFL2 to downright conspiracy theories about LGBT "propaganda."

Although... I don't know what I expected from such a relatively small and insular fanbase that has a decent chunk of its English following most prominently on 4chan, and ESPECIALLY from a game series popularised by marketing towards gun enthusiasts, on top of being an anime gacha game. I feel it should be obvious what kind of demographic that combination naturally fosters.

But even with that obvious fact in mind, it still hurts. I really like this series and the stories it has to tell. It has helped me get through incredibly tough times in my life since I started playing it in 2018, and continues to give me a lot of joy. But seeing the casual acceptance of some of the attitudes in a lot of the community makes me feel highly uncomfortable and unwelcome, and it risks tainting my view of the franchise at times.

It wasn't helped by me re-reading the GFL manga's sole English translation only to find the scanlator inserted extra "jokes" into their scanlation, and by "jokes" I mean some intrusive unfunny memes that break immersion in the scene combined with the occasional slur and hard-R thrown in for good measure.

Or people almost ALWAYS referring to the commander as a "he" 90% of the time, combined with despising the commander being female in the manga and calling her a mary sue. And we all know that term is always used accurately and never just used because you don't like a female main character nowadays, devoid of the term's original meaning.

A lot of these people seem to fear and dread GFL2 getting popular and "ruining" the franchise's core community, whether they mean it seriously or ironically. At this point, I hope it does. More people means more diversity, more success for Mica Team, and more people who can experience GFL's tales of love and hope.

The only part of the fandom I've found that I feel safe enough around to interact with actively is here on Tumblr, and I want to say thank you to everyone who posts about GFL on here. You're awesome.

Edit: this was a quick rant with a brief explanation. It's not meant to go into depth on any subject matter and has a hostile tone throughout, including the notes. I ignore men and politics in real life, I have no desire to learn about them or explain anything beyond the post's scope. This is drawn from when I had a passing interest in learning about the diseased male thoughts. I've clarified and expanded the original post.

Barbatos does have the admirable Sigma traits, but he is just as hopelessly in love with the player character and panders just as much as the other males in the game which is only one of many ways that negates a self-respecting Sigma 😂

I honestly hate that words like Simp made it into Obey Me. In a sexual context it has been appropriated from incels and MGTOW language. It's 'reclaimed', redefined and is used unironically again everywhere, but it is still completely sexist bullshit. Women can't even get basic respect and sympathy from a man without this type of men degrading, jeering at and insulting both.

It's a term heavily used in this fandom so I can't really fault the writers. They use catchy slang to stay hip and contemporary, especially with Levi and his jargon. It's in awful taste to use a misogynistic term FROM a character who is identifiable as an incel, towards a character meant to represent anyone, in a game and genre specifically intended for women.

I doubt that anyone who uses the term on themself cares about the implications or origin of trendy labels. The term Simp, used in a sexual context such as this, is from the Manosphere (Far Right, Masculinist, Anti-Feminist, Anti-Woman and LGBT-phobic "Movement".) It is an acronym that means "Simpletons into Mediocre P*ssy". For Levi to call himself a Simp is to specifically refer to MC mediocre pvssy. These are characters meant to represent idealized fantasy men and yet the writers decided to invite concepts from men who violently oppose, objectify and hate Women and LGBT?

While it's believable that Levi could operate out of this belief system, they shouldn't have actually done it. 🙁 OM runs absolutely counter to Masculinism, the character are PROUD "SIMPS" that aggressively pursue, "paypig"/throw money, gifts, fawn over, pander to and compete against one another in hopes of getting attention from someone who can be interpreted as a woman. The characters are "pathetically" obsessed with gaining favor, monopoly over and a romantic and/or sexual relationship with the player. It is ANATHEMA TO THE MASCULINIST CONCEPT. Masculinism is, in other words, male supremacism and a call to arms for "oppressed men" to reject progress towards equality, retake full patriarchal control and force everyone else to submit to their ideology and social order and accept the "inherent worthlessness" of equality, the female sex, non-whiteness, LGBT, Liberal/Left and those that disagree with them.

OM promotes a progressive and LGBT friendly stance while remaining solidly as the otome genre's woman oriented escapism + power fantasy, romance game. That isn't to say OM players/Otome/Joseimuke players aren't also literally Simps who paypig for mediocre prick, but this game is supposed to be about "good men" and romantic fulfillment.

It's ridiculous 😂

There will be no tolerance for "Not All Men" or "Not Just Women/Female Players" on my post. This is about specific men and their ideology that specifically attack women, their lives, safety and futures in horrific, vile, life ruining ways.
