DCAS is like. the worst season of DSVC ever and not only that but it’s so much worse than even TDAS. which, like, the bar is in HELL so it should be impossible to not make a better show than that but somehow ONC managed to make it THE WORST.

three love triangles, almost zero real development, almost no good plotlines. if you didn’t bring back half this cast and just ended their stories with their respective seasons, not only would nothing have been changed, but they’d have been BETTER.

likd, the only people who actually got something good out of DCAS were alec & fiore because they made up. say you don’t bring back tom & jake - they get a hopeful ending. don’t bring back gabby & ellie - okay, they’re happy anyways. don’t bring back miriam - she won! who cares! don’t bring back james & aiden - they’re together, they’re happy. don’t bring back grett - she gets a hopeful ending. don’t bring back ashley - who the FUCK cares about ASHLEY she did NOTHING for the story. don’t bring back huntessally - who cares they’re all mid-tier characters at best. don’t bring back connor - everybody forgot he existed anyways. don’t bring back yul - please GOD do NOT bring back yul.

like. name me one character besides alec and fiore whose story was significantly changed by being in DCAS. gabellie? they had a mild disagreement then went back to being okay. tomjake? they literally returned to that hopeful ending they got in season 1. jaiden? james was kicked out first and aiden was just stuck in between tomjake the entire season.

and also, oh my god i could’ve lived happily without ever having to deal with trevek again. man FUCK trevek they have zero chemistry from day one. they piss me off sm they’re like tomjake but a bit older and so so so much stupider and meaner on dereks part.

all ONC did with DCAS was show us they genuinely 1) do not care about their characters whatsoever, unless it directly benefits them and 2) cannot. fucking. write.

Disability in Navigating with You

I wrote a long thread over on twitter about the representation of our protagonist with cerebral palsy / CP over on twitter if you want to read that. https://x.com/jrome58/status/1813569339855187975

Also, I don't blame you if you don't want to. That place is rough these days. Basically, it breaks down to this: I created a cool character with CP as a supporting character in Unstoppable Wasp and through that met a cool reader and writer with CP named Quade Reed. As anybody who has read Unstoppable Wasp can guess, I didn't get to do as much with Taina Miranda as I would have liked so...

When I got the chance to write a romance story in comics, I wanted to include a character with a physical disability, something way too uncommon in both comics and romance stories. So, I created Neesha Sparks, a black teen girl with CP and I brought Quade in to help as an authenticity reader. I brought in some other readers, especially when it came to talking about some of the intersectional areas of Neesha's identity. Throughout the process, one of the biggest things that came up was that disability, when it's portrayed, is frequently portrayed as one thing that has one answer, when it's actually a daily series of challenges and having to explain to people what's going on with your body and why you need what you need in a way that any of us would find intrusive. I said a lot more in the twitter post, but mostly I just want to share some cool art work from this book. So, here is some excerpts from the book about Neesha, Gabby, and disability.

i love this show but i hate/dislike almost all the canon couples (minus huntally and gabellie) and i really hope that onc has a lot of major platonic dynamics in s4 over romantic ones, because i LOVE jake and miriam, alec and fiore, rosa maria and lake, gabby and tom, etc. i feel like friendships/found families are onc’s biggest strengths but they severely lack what i enjoy in romantic dynamics. (i respect the other canon ships and their fans ofc, they’re just… far and away from my cup of tea.)

Sorry can you explain me and to @thankyouforthememoriesworld and her follower, that now are obsessed to Gabby knees, because they see her with a knee band when she is to the bench, why does basketball players use knee band when they are on the bench? Because now they are saying that Gabby doesn't dunk on court because she tored her ACL, ten years ago. I know that she tored only her right LCA(but she needed two operations, because the first one was rejected), but now they said that her torned LCA were two. She dunks in training and not on court (probably because she thinks it is not fuctional to the team or she doesn't have the right moment, but she was very nearly to do that in 2024 qualification).

"Williams’ first ACL injury on Jan. 19, 2013, ended her junior year. She had been averaging 30 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and seven blocked shots.

She sat out the opener of her senior season before leading Reed High to 11 straight wins. In that final win against Spanish Springs on Jan. 21, however, she landed awkwardly on her knee and fell to the gym floor and was helped to the bench. But she didn’t miss a game. On Jan. 24, she scored 16 points in a loss to Reno but missed the final 3:30 after aggravating the knee injury. She played the following day and had 19 points in a win over Galena. But an MRI showed the ACL tear that ended her high school career."

She ices her knee during the game so her recovery is quicker.

I think you're knees are never quite the same after a acl injury. The Dunking think, I think it will come, she'll dunk one for Jojo at some point :)

Gabby talked about her ACL injury in a interview with Geno but I can't find it. they also talked about her record collection.

Little Tom has a huge fascination/interest with Gabby's hairbow and keeps trying to pull it out of her hair until Gabby realises what he's doing and let's him play with it/wear it.

Tom’s eyes were wide as he stared at the back of Gabby’s head. He could see her large, red bow clipped onto her hair, and he was very intrigued by it.

While Gabby was cleaning up from lunch, Tom crawled over to her. He stood on his knees and attempted to pull her bow out, but only ended up tugging on her hair.

“Hey!” Gabby yelled out of surprise, grabbing the back of her head and turning around. She saw Tom innocently staring up at her.

“Tom, don’t do that, buddy. That’s not nice, you don’t pull on someone’s hair like that.” Gabby told him.

Tom only blinked in return, making Gabby sigh a bit, since she doubted Tom understood what she said. He was too little to fully understand and comprehend what others said to him.

So, Gabby could really only hope that Tom understood that he wasn’t supposed to pull on her hair, based on her reaction.

Gabby turned back around, finished up putting the last bit of dishes away.

As she did that, Tom just stared immensely at the bow in her hair. He really wanted it, so he tried to grab it again.

Though, like last time, he missed and ended up pulling Gabby’s hair.

“Tom!” Gabby exclaimed in an upset voice as she turned around. “Stop it. You don’t do that, okay?” She said, giving him a serious look.

Tom whined, putting his arms up and making little grabbing gestures with his hands. Gabby thought he was doing this because he wanted to be picked up, but in reality, he only wanted her bow.

Still, she picked him up, hoping he was only pulling on her hair because he wanted her attention and to be picked up.

“Let’s go, Tommy. We can hang out in the living room.” Gabby spoke as she began carrying him out.

While bringing him to the living room, Tom noticed the bow in her hair, and this time was actually able to get a grip on it.

Tom giggled with excitement, before tugging on it. Though, his giggles quickly stopped and turned into whines when he was unable to get it out of her hair, since it was clipped on.

“No, Tom. Stop it.” Gabby said with a stern tone, that she rarely ever used, especially when she was watching over Tom, since he was always very well mannered when she’d ‘babysit’ him.

Gabby set him down on the couch, then grabbed his hands and placed them in his lap. Before she could speak to him, Tom bursted out into tears.

He didn’t care that Gabby was upset with him and was in trouble, he actually didn’t even realize that, due to being so focused on the bow, which was the whole reason he was upset. Because he couldn’t grab the bow.

Gabby’s expression changed from frustration to confusion very quickly. She didn’t think she’d been too tough on him, she only spoke to him with a stern voice.

Gabby was trying to think of what could’ve possibly made Tom upset, but then she could feel that her bow was messed up.

That helped her realize Tom probably just wanted her bow. It made sense, as he kept pulling her hair and he had never done that before.

“Is this why you’re crying? Do you want my bow?” Gabby grabbed the bow out of her hair and showed it to Tom.

Immediately, Tom stopped crying and took the bow from her. Tom stared at it in awe, before giggling again and beginning to mess with it.

Gabby couldn’t help but laugh as she watched Tom get so excited over a bow.

She wasn’t sure why out of all things, Tom was fascinated by her bow, but then again, he was in his babyspace. And when he was in babyspace, Tom could become very interested over the most random ideas.

Tom played with the bow for a while, before gently tapping it against his head.

“Oh! Here, let me help!” Gabby smiled as she took the bow from Tom and clipped it onto his hair. Tom giggled and clapped his hand in return.

“Aww! You look so adorable!” Gabby cooed at Tom, whose giggling only increased. Gabby then pulled out her phone and stepped back a few inches.

“Look at me, Tommy! I’m going to take a picture and send it to Jake, so he can see how cute you look!” Gabby spoke cheerfully.

Tom looked at Gabby, with the biggest smile on his face as she took his picture.

Once she had the picture, she sent it to Jake, then went over to show Tom.

“Look! That’s you, Tommy!” Tom looked at the picture and squealed as he pointed at it.

“I know! There you are!” Gabby said as she pointed at the picture as while.

Tom started clapping his hand again, before grabbing the bow, and pulling it out of his hair, going right back to playing with it.

Seeing how attached Tom was to the bow, Gabby doubted she was going to be able to bring it back home with her.

She was just going to have to come back another day, when Tom wasn’t regressed, to get it back, which wasn’t a big deal to her. Tom was trustworthy, so she’d get it back eventually.

Just not today. Definitely not today.
