"You did not see what I did, did you?" Popping claws and maiming some mutant hater was not something she wanted anyone to see.

Gabby smiles as he compliments her, though she is expecting him to tell her about the game he certainly caught a while ago. But she can't smell blood on him so she is confused.

"Got one over… You mean I win?" she asks for confirmation, not sure if she believes it. Is he lying to her? She doesn't have her family's experience to read into olfactory and auditory cues to figure out whether someone is lying yet.

She can't do much but take his words at face value. A huge grin spreads on her face, and she squeezes the bunny-like creature to her chest as it wriggles a little at the approaching hand.

"You think I could keep him? I think Jonathan will be jealous, though… And I don't know how to care for two pets." Sure, Jonathan was easy because he isn't shy about what he wants — and the universal translator from Rocket helps a lot too — but this bun bun seems skittish and shy, and she doesn't want to force it to live with her when it doesn't seem like it wants to.

She knows all too well the pain of being held where she can't escape. "I think I'll let him go…"

It had taken a minute, but  Logan had found the perfect spot under an oak tree. Shady and dry, but with springy grass and moss. Nice and cozy. He’d glanced around, then taken his seat and stretched his arms over his head, then folded them to make a pillow and pulled his hat over his eyes. And he’d let himself drift off.

He wasn’t entirely sure how long he’d been out for. At least a good few minutes. But probably a fair bit longer. He sat up, stretched his arms, and yawned widely. He’d needed that. Given the distant fear-squeal that had woken him up, Gabby had probably caught her prey. Good girl. Suppose he oughta go congratulate her on her victory. First, though, he does a quick two laps of the clearing to get his heartbeat out of resting, and an even quicker dive-roll into the underbrush so he at least looks a little rumpled and appropriately leaf-littered. Then it was a simple matter of finding her scent and sounds and following the trail. 

“Well, shit.” He says as he emerged from the brush. He scratched at the back of his head. “I can’t believe it. You actually got one over on me.” And he smiles, reaching out to gently offer his finger for the rabbit to sniff. 

“And it seems like you made a friend, to boot.”

Luna puffed out her cheeks a bit, sighing. At least she wasn't alone with the strange family dynamics. She couldn't quite relate, but then, she didn't expect Gabby to relate to her family weirdness. It didn't even really faze her that Gabby admitted to having died once. Her own father had nearly killed her exposing her to Terrigenesis. It was all relative.

"I do have a birthday coming. I could demand everyone play nice for a day." She smiled a little. "Maybe?"

The words break through the dark silence that had settled over the foyer; glazed hazel eyes meeting compassionate green. Even though there was no judgments housed within them, K couldn’t help but feel their throat constrict in shame. Anger and humiliation briefly flares through their chest because of what Gabby was witnessing.

“K?” Their voice is closer now, a familiar body settles on the floor beside their hunched form. “Why don’t we get you to bed, okay? I’ll make you some breakfast in the morning and we can talk if you’d like.”

There won’t be any judgment here, K muses. Because we’ve both danced with the devil in the dark. They’ve just been doing it for longer than I have.

Gabby picked Kitana, her blue outfit made her think of Laura a little. She has no idea what her attacks are, or how the rest of her outfit looks. She quirks a brow when Wade picks Baraka, she noticed the small hesitation over the pink character… but she decides to say nothing, she will tease him about it later.

"It doesn't matter who wins as long as we have fun," she hums, she wants to win but she is so new at this game, she's not sure she can. Now, Gabby has played various console games, just not this specific one, and never on an arcade; she still knows she has to smash the buttons in the right order to get the character to do anything.

So when the 3, 2, 1, Fight screen is gone… she starts smashing the buttons while moving the joystick, doing her best to get combos and figure out which combinations of key presses give her nice attacks.

When all else fails, keymashing seems to be the way to go.

"That's the spirit!" Truth be told, Deadpool hasn't played much of this game before either. He navigates the two of them to the character selection screen and hovers over Mileena. As well as wielding a couple of sai and donning a half mask, she's hot and is dressed in bright pink.

Wade considers this but then he moves over one and selects Baraka, a muscular bald guy with swords in his arms, only this design had a mouth full of teeth and didn't actually suck. The mercenary stares off somewhere, likely looking the writer right in the face for daring to choose Baraka as his character, but falls in line because it's funny. Yes unfortunately we all remember X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) dir. Gavin Hood.

"Now we got tons of quarters, so don't worry if I forget to go easy on ya and you end up with a fatality in the first few minutes." Wade knows he's got to pretend like he's an expert, he has to impress the kid!

With Gabby's character selected and the arena chosen, the words FIGHT ring out into the arcade. Now, can he remember any of the button combos required to do the cool stuff?

colorism in the rpc, especially with regards to filipinos (and southeast asians in general)

hello! thanks so much for letting me do this, and thanks so much for making the rpc confront its own prejudices or biases. i wanted to talk about something that’s been bothering me for the longest, longest time, as a southeast asian who is considered darker. (i’m not dark-skinned by western standards but i am in asia.) the sad thing is that i have been talking about it, but no one listens. i haven’t seen the rpc make a change. funny, that.

let’s start by talking about how southeast asians are so painfully underused, unless they’re mixed with white. i suspect that much of it is because southeast asians = east asians in people’s minds. no. we southeast asians systemically face discrimination and abuse from east asians. do you know that k-pop idols, such as sooyoung (of girls generation) and tzuyu, who may have slightly darker skin are often called compared to “ugly” southeast asians? that ur fav tzuyu is one of the most conventionally beautiful k-pop idols but she’s still slung with hate because she’s known for “looking southeast asian”? that whenever sooyoung is praised by netizens, there’s bound to be a “whoa, she evolved from southeast asian” comment? that crazy rich asians by kevin kwan, based on his own experiences as a chinese-singaporean, describes chinese-singaporeans as being disgusted by ugly, dark southeast asians? that being southeast asian is an insult to many east asians? rpc realize that southeast asians are not the same as east asian challenge. that we deserve representation too and that east asian or half-white se asian rep will not cut it.

now i’m going to be talking a bit less broadly, though i’m sure people of other southeast asian ethnicities could probably relate to this too. why are the only filipino faceclaims the rpc uses half-white?

i just wanted to preface this by saying, of course biracial people are valid. biracial filipinos are not white, they are poc. but at the same time, when the only ones y'all gif and use are half-white, something is up. something is UP. especially when THE most famous actresses in the philippines right now are NOT half-white and they’re usually on the darker side. (idk why but most of the famous filipino male actors are lighter but that’s just the status quo rn; women usually experience colorism worse than men). note: keep in mind these women i’ll show you tend to wear light-colored contact lenses bc they’re pressured to concede to eurocentric beauty standards in some way, even if they get to have their natural complexion.

THE most famous actress in the country, the so-called “box office queen”, kathryn bernardo:

and so many more! and many of them, such as gabbi garcia and kate valdez, have literally talked about being discriminated against for being darker-skinned! and yet they succeeded. and yet the rpc goes out of their way to find b-list, c-list, and d-list actresses like bela padilla and julia barretto to gif, even when bela and julia have a very public history of colorism/racism. here’s bela and julia, two pale actresses mixed with white, who the rpc went out of their way to make resources for, posing with or in blackface and brownface:

yeah, that’s right. to many pale-skinned half-white asians, darker-skinned native asians are just shadows to step out of. please remember this is the message you are perpetuating when you ignore asians who aren’t half white and/or have skin as pale as dahyun from twice.

i know this is “just rp,” but we’ve established by now that writing affects real life too. i am so, so, so exhausted of feeling like i’m the only mun in the rpc who thinks of using filipino fcs who actually have any color to their skin, such as gillian vicencio. i’m tired of playing daniel padilla muses and getting ignored. (funny thing is that daniel has like a quarter white ancestry too, but i guess he just popped out too southeast asian-looking for the rpc’s liking.) this never happens when i play cis, white muses, lol.

i’m tired of the rpc only using james reid, kelsey merritt, liza soberano (who also has a VERY public history of brownface btw! just so y'all know this about your fav “safe” half-white filipino girl), and christina nadin and thinking they’re doing something to promote diversity. i’m tired. i’m tired i’m tired i’m so so so exhausted. PLEASE do better. PLEASE. the actresses i mentioned ALL have plenty of tv show + film clips on youtube. they have interviews. there is no excuse. there is no excuse!

maybe someday i will see faces like kathryn, nadine, gabbi, kate, maris racal, khalil ramos, mccoy de leon, and donny pangilinan in the rpc. maybe someday.
