I cannot bear to see you fall
Babycorn stopped dead in her tracks with a scream, falling backwards into a pile of leaves. “Woah! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you!” The strange miqo'te that had caught Babycorn by surprise leapt from the trees and landed right in front of her. “Here! Let me help you up!” He held his hand out and pulled Babycorn back up onto her two feet. “My name’s G’nash by the way! Nice to meet you!” Babycorn was still a little stunned, too stunned to speak. Uninterrupted, G’nash continued to speak. “Sorry about scaring you again! It’s just…” He nervously tugged on his singular sleeve. “You probably don’t want to go that way. Some of the people over there can be really mean.” “What do you mean?” Babycorn finally managed to ask. “Just…” G’nash hesitated for a second. “I mean I wouldn’t go over there. Unless I didn’t have a choice or something…”
ffxiv write day 3: Tempest
in a way theres a lot cherrypit doesnt understand about the world more than babycorn doesnt understand. hes still growing after all.
At the same time theres also things he can see that other people cant.
Cherrypit noticed a change in his sister almost immediately.
It’s a little hard to spend your entire life (and semi-afterlife) with someone and not notice these sorts of things.
Being as young as he was, his attention to small details wasn’t the greatest. If he had to guess when this all started it would have to be sometime during their second trip to Gridania. At the time he had been distracted by a cool looking table he was thinking about biting. “Yummy…” He babbled to himself.
The sound of his sister raising her voice was enough to make him jump on top of the table in surprise.
When he looked towards her voice he saw her talking with another tall person he didn’t know.
“I’m going out of my way to help you! Not like any of you even deserve it!”
Neither Cherrypit or Babycorn would have had any idea that she was yelling at a wood wailer. The protectors of Gridinia itself and who were also very notoriously very wary of any outsider. He hadn’t heard anything before Babycorn’s outburst.
It was the first time in a very long time that Cherrypit had heard her voice that loud before.
At this point Cherrypit’s desire to bite the table was long gone. Instead he was far more interested in potentially biting the leg of the person talking to his sister. He didn’t understand a lot of the words coming out of their mouth but he could feel that most of them weren’t very nice.
Not a lot of people were nice to his sister. It always made him a little sad whenever people would stare at her a certain way.
Before Cherrypit had the chance to act on his thoughts the wood wailer had made their exit. As they did, Cherrypit stuck out his tongue. That would show em’!
“Stop calling me that! My name is Babycorn Corn!!” Babycorn screamed out. “I’m not an adventurer…” That last part was said as quietly as she could.
From behind her desk Mother Miounne tried her best to defuse Babycorn’s anger. Not that there was no reason for her to be mad after being told she couldn’t be trusted. There just seemed to be something else there. Another reason why Babycorn was taking this so personally.
“I’m sorry about that-” Mother Miounne wasn’t about to get halfway through her apology before Babycorn turned around and stomped out of the building.
Just before she was out of sight Babycorn turned around and shot a glare at Miounne. A way to try and let her know that while she was doing what she asked her to–Babycorn wasn’t happy about it. “Let’s get this thing over with.” It was a chore for gil and food. Nothing more.
As Babycorn walked away, Cherrypit waddled right after her.
Once he was walking beside her, he noticed her hands were shaking. They were balled up into a pair of fists. Her eyes were wide as she looked straight at the ground. “Bebe?” Cherrypit raised one of his oversized sleeves up to her. Babycorn liked to hold hands when they were scared and right now she looked terrified.
Babycorn gasped and took Cherrypit’s hand, walking towards a big blue (and tasty looking) crystal surrounded by a large crowd. It was strange. Usually his sister always told him they needed to stay away from lots of people.
Once Babycorn had done what she had needed to do she took off with Cherrypit again. This time she picked him up and held him close to her as she took off to who knows where.
Whenever someone would walk past them Babycorn would glare at them. Occasionally when someone would stare just a little bit longer than usual she would look right back at them and either growl or make it seem like she would bite them if they got any closer.
Sometimes even both!
Cherrypit wondered if his sister was sad about something. Or maybe she was mad. Like when they would get chased by scary people yelling at them. One time one of them threw something sharp at his sister. It really hurt her and Babycorn didn’t want to talk to anyone after that.
All Babycorn would do was stare at people walking by and tell them they deserved what was coming to them. Today sort of felt something like that.
It was like a little storm cloud was constantly hovering over her head.
Just as the idea crossed Cherrypit’s head, he felt Babycorn stop. He looked around to see where they were. There were no people around unlike just a few minutes ago when it felt like they were surrounded.
Now they were somewhere else Cherrypit didn’t recognize but they were still in Gridania, he could feel it. There were some toys on the ground and a lot of weird shapes all around them all made of wood. If Babycorn hadn’t been hugging him so tightly he would have run off to play on them and bite as much as he could.
He heard his sister let out a sniffle. Cherrypit felt Babycorn lay her head on top of his, ruffling his hair. “I’m really sorry Cherry…” Babycorn whispered. “Are you doing okay? Are you tired?” It had been almost a straight trip from Limsa Lominsa to here without almost no rest. Even Babycorn had to admit she was a little exhausted from everything.
Cherrypit chewed on his oversized sleeve and thought about it. He didn’t feel sleepy. He felt like running around looking at everything he could. “Play!” Cherrypit happily said. He turned to look at his sister and put both of his sleeved hands on her cheeks. “Play! Play!”
At this point the dark circles under Babycorn’s eyes were just something Cherrypit assumed had always been there.
Babycorn gave her brother a small smile. The first in a long time. “Okay Cherry.” She grabbed his hands and held them as tightly as she could. “We’ll play when we’re all done. Okay?”
“Okay!” Cherrypit repeated. That was enough for him.
Things got both better and worse when they joined the scions of the seventh dawn.
All of a sudden there were so many new people that Cherrypit didn’t know. At first he was a little scared of them all but as time went on he was able to see that they were really nice. Some of them gave him candy and treats! Others would tell him really funny stories!
And a lot of them were really fun to scare!
The only big problem was that Cherrypit could tell that the storm cloud over Babycorn’s head had grown in size. Getting bigger and bigger every day they spent helping the scions with things.
No matter what they asked her to do, Babycorn always found something to complain about. Sometimes she would even go so far as to insult the scions, all of them. Most of them would brush her off. The only one that would really get on her case about being rude to Minfilia was Thancred.
Or as Cherrypit knew them, ‘Mini’ and ‘Thanky.’
Every night Cherrypit would hear Babycorn whispering to herself that tomorrow would be the day they finally would have enough of her. That tomorrow they would finally get kicked out. The only problem was that Cherrypit liked it here but if his sister wanted to leave then he would have to go with her.
There had to be some reason she didn’t like it here…
Cherrypit knew that Babycorn got into a lot more fights than just with Thancred. He didn’t really understand what the fights were about. In Cherrypit’s opinion there was nothing worth fighting with people for unless it was for extra candy for dinner.
Fighting just wasn’t for him. Playing with people was a lot more fun!
There was a nice talking piece of armor that sometimes played with him. He had a funny name but Cherrypit just liked to call him Big. Sometimes Babycorn would even join in too! She would walk up next to Big and hold her leg out for him to trip over. Big would fall onto the ground with a funny noise that made Cherrypit laugh.
Then Cherrypit would be able to jump up and down on Big, sort of like a big trampoline that didn’t actually bounce you anywhere! At least until someone else would come over and tell them they weren’t allowed to do that.
Which was strange because it was a lot of fun!
While they were being told not to do that, Cherrypit would notice a strange smile on Babycorn’s face. It wasn’t the sort of smile that she usually gave him. It didn’t make her look like she was happy. Usually the person talking to them would get even louder when Babycorn would start to smile like that.
Especially if Babycorn was talking with Lunya.
There was just something about those two that set the other off. Even Cherrypit could tell. It almost started to feel like a necessity that the two had to argue over something every day.
Cherrypit didn’t understand it. As she chewed on his sleeves he wondered if there was anything else they were going to do today. (he had a short track mind) He looked over to his sister who had just stormed off from fighting with Lunya over her not bothering to carry emergency potions with her.
As Cherrypit waddled behind Babycorn he looked at something he noticed the first day they arrived. He noticed it, but he still didn’t get why Lunya of all people also had her own storm cloud over her head.
“So what’s the secret?”
“Bwrah?” Cherrypit took the cookie out of his mouth and stared at Yda in silence. Both of them were on the ground, seemingly already having a conversation before this. Yda was lying on her stomach, kicking her legs back and forth. “You know-! The secret to being Babycorn’s friend! She’s always so nice to you–I figured you would have some advice.”
Cherrypit chewed on his cookie and looked around.
Papalymo gave a heavy sigh and finally looked up from the book he was fake-reading from. “Why are you asking a baby this question?”
“Because Cherry is the only one Babycorn is nice to!” Yda sat up and scoffed. The answer seemed so obvious why couldn’t her partner see it?
The older lalafell looked at Yda and then over to Cherrypit, who was very busy making his chocolate chip cookie as soggy as he could using his own drool. As disgusting as that was, it only helped prove Papalymo’s point. “I believe the answer to your question would be to simply have been born as Cherry instead.”
“That can’t be the only solution!”
“The girl doesn’t even call us by the right names.” The idea that Babycorn would suddenly turn around and like them with one simple trick given to them by a baby sounded as impossible as it was actually pulling it off. “We’re just going to have to live with it.”
Having finished his cookie off Cherrypit moved to chewing on his chocolate stained sleeves. “...Corn!” He suddenly squeaked out.
Yda sprang to her feet with a gasp. “That’s it!!”
“What’s it?” Papalymo was almost afraid to find out.
“We get her corn! As a sign of friendship and camaraderie!”
“Doesn’t she have enough of it in her hair?”
“She could always have more!” Yda helpfully added. Right after saying that she took off running, leaving Papalymo in the dust. “Y-Yda?! Wait a second-?!” He struggled for a second to climb off of the crate he had been sitting on, making sure to take his weapon just in case they ran into trouble. Neglecting to also take his wallet.
As Cherrypit watched both of them disappear off into the night he wondered if Yda’s plan would ever work. He hadn’t been lying in saying that corn made his sister happy. He remembered it used to make her really happy back when they lived with their mama and papa but it had been a long time since they had eaten it.
“Bebe…” He really hoped it would work.
It would be nice if more people could make his sister smile.

[Borky sighed and rubbed his brow. “What d’you know about G’nash?”
Mister Borpington perked. “Oh! I know plenty about ganache! It is a smooth, thick chocolate with cream. You can use it in all sorts of delicious desserts! Why do you need to know about ganache?”
Borky stared at him, trying to parse out what he’d just heard. “Whut?”]

fun little reference sheet for all the confused taz balance hoes out there
so you listened to all of taz balance and now you’re reading the graphic novel and whhaaaa these names are all different! or you started out reading the graphic novels and decided to give the podcast a try and are mixed up by who is what. have no fear.
This is a list of every difference and change in wording/names I could find in all of the graphic novels out so far - Here There Be Gerblins to Crystal Kingdom.
in case you didn’t know, the reason for all the changes is because when they started out the podcast, they were playing a pre-written campaign by Wizards of the Coast (the people who make the official DND stuff). It’s like, the basic starter kit campaign. They diverted from it pretty quickly, but the world they established in the podcast is basically the world of DND. and so, all of those names and places and spells belong to Wizards of the Coast.
So, they’re using alternate names for any official DND 5e material so they don’t get sued.
Sometimes the name is vague enough that they decide it’s fine to leave as is. e.g. levitate is still levitate. The only big one they break this rule on is zone of truth, and that’s for very good reason. I try to put when they keep the name the same for spells, since spells are the most common things that change.
Hence, I shall bring forth the list under the cut! Please let me know if you find any more!
UPDATE: now including mentions from The Eleventh Hour and The Suffering Game! the latter was really hard so please excuse the messy formatting. also I realized I previously included some pretty big Suffering Game spoilers on accident - I have done my best to change the wording to keep any spoilers relatively minor.
abbreviations:
HTBG = Here There Be Gerblins
MRL = Murder on the Rockport Limited
PTTM = Petals to the Metal
CK = Crystal Kingdom
11th hr = The Eleventh Hour
SG = the Suffering Game
LI = Lunar Interlude
the format we’re going with is
graphic novel name = podcast name
I’m trying to put the most important stuff near the top but no promises
People/places
G’nash = Klaarg
Eversummer = Neverwinter
Haverdale = Phandalin
Bogard Stoneseeker = Gundren Rockseeker
Caggle Stoneseeker = Tharden Rockseeker
Dorb Stoneseeker = Nundro Rockseeker
Yahvvie = yeemick
Queen Morior = the raven queen (I miss this I love the raven queen so much)
Cavern of dangling death = wave echo cave
The black spider is still just the black spider - I guess its vague enough that it works
fun fact: Barry Bluejeans starts out as just Sildar Hallwinter from the box campaign but they give him a better name first episode, bc they didn’t like how Sildar Hallwinter sounded. Obvs there’s no mention of Sildar in the book.
Sazed = Philippe (from 11th hr - not a copyright change, but a name change nonetheless. I don’t know why it’s not Sazed anymore, Glamour Springs is the same and both are original creations, not WoC property update: it’s because Sazed is a character from the Mistborn series so the boys & carey probably don’t want to chomp Mistborns’ flavor in their published graphic novel)
Spells (I’m also keeping track of which ones are the same btw)
ouch ray = magic missile (they acknowledge this one in the book)
zone of truth is still zone of truth
idk how they got away with that one
shield of faith is still shield of faith
strike divine = divine strike
some sources say this is an evocation cantrip, some say it’s a Life Domain feat. they may also have meant true strike, but I highly doubt it.
slowfall = feather fall
later on in 11th hour gn, taako casts “Featherfall” with no issue (???)
celestial protector = guardian of faith
self-disguise = disguise self
dispel the dead = turn undead/destroy undead
the shattering = shatter
banish = banishment
shuffle jump = blink
still “shuffle jump” in SG, although several other spells have switched to using their dnd names
dampen elements = absorb elements
blast of fire = scorching ray
later on in 11th hour gn, taako (or at least the umbrastaff) casts “Scorching Ray” with no issue (???)
magic rope = rope trick
sleepy-time = sleep
clair-vision = clairvoyance
diminish size = reduce
the spell is enlarge/reduce, and later on they use “enlarge” with no trouble - why is it “diminish size” here???
spirit steed = phantom steed
ethereal weapon = spiritual weapon
in 11th hr gn, it’s also called “armory of spirit”
gout of flames = fireball
blessings of the cherubim = prayer of healing
concussive force = concussive blast(?)
Taako uses this in the battlewagon race, but he just magic missiles the boar in the podcast
they probably wanted to spice things up a bit since magic missile kind of has a Brand.
Concussive blast is a real 3rd level evocation spell that Taako would’ve been able to cast, it just doesn’t actually happen in the podcast
levitate is still levitate
how is that one ok but “sleep” has to be “sleepy-time”??
word of healing = healing word
in SG pg 77 they say “healing word”, but before now it’s just been “word of healing”
ray of scorching oil = scorching ray(?)
we did already have that one but I can’t think of a better fit
discernment of magicks = detect magic
object location = locate object
flames of holiness = sacred flame
fire mitts = burning hands
wave of thunder = thunderwave
mystic analysis = probably meant as a stand-in for “identify”, but in the podcast he just does an arcana check.
burgle = knock
divine word is still divine word (which Merle changes to “divine wood” with the ring of the grammarian. this is the same b/w podcast & gn)
disintegration = disintegrate
cold snap = ice storm
truthful sight = true seeing
polymorph is still polymorph (SG pg 111)
arcane tether = magic jar
nature’s grasp = planar ally*
*the dnd 5e spell planar ally is a very different spell than what the listed effects of “nature’s grasp” are, but it is the spell used in the podcast at this particular juncture for this purpose. I would guess they changed it because technically speaking “planar ally” might not be able to do what happens in the podcast (it was a very rule-of-cool moment). either way, dope moment, very understandable change.
Spells cast that they don’t name in the book but are real 5e spells!
Taako uses “Mage Hand” on HTBG pg 135
Killian uses the feather duster to cast “Feather Fall” on HTBG pg 148
Merle casts “Light” on HTBG pg 160
it doesn’t say the name, but in PTTM pg 123 Taako casts “Crown of Madness” on the gerbil guy, which is a Horrifying spell
the crickets cast “Dominate Person” to control Taako in PTTM in case anyone’s interested.
I can’t fucking figure out what he meant by “ghostly voice” as a spell Jenkins used. My best guess is a modified use of “Magic Mouth”, or maybe “Minor Illusion”. Makes sense, Magic Mouth is only 2nd level and Minor Illusion is a cantrip, and Jenkins is a shitty wizard.
pg 11 SG - this is Scorching Ray (confirmed)
Angus uses “Mage Hand” several times throughout the SG gn (pg 174-175, 241), never with the little box that normally appears to explain spells, but Taako does compliment him on it and uses the term “mage hand”, so we know that’s what the spell is.
pg 191 SG Angus is likely using the spell “Detect Magic” here, since it shows you both the presence of magic and what school it’s from (e.g. illusion), and he mentions illusion magic specifically.
also on pg 191 SG Taako starts to cast “Dispel Magic” but is stopped.
pg 207 SG - Merle is casting “Divination” here
pg 214 SG - these are probably high-level Scorching Rays, but tbh that aint the part you should be paying attention to on this page lol
pg 236 Carey is actually using a racial feature all dragons and dragonborns have access to - Breath Weapon! since she is a blue dragonborn, she can breath lightning once every short or long rest!
on pg 247 of SG, a spell is cast that breaks a pair of handcuffs off of somebody’s wrists. this could be “Knock”, or a myriad of other spells, but I think “Knock” is the most likely, as it is specifically used for locks, chains, and bindings.
on pg 248 of SG, the spell “Command” is cast
not included in the books, but in LI V (Reunion Tour) pt 1 (which would be during the back half of the Suffering Game GN), Taako casts “Drawmij’s Instant Summons” during an interaction with Garfield. I would highly recommend watching/listening to this scene if you haven’t.
Spells that don’t (seem to) correspond to any dnd 5e spell
Merle makes up a spell called “refresca” in SG. it doesn’t correspond to a real 5e spell, to my knowledge, and I don’t think it’s supposed to.
pg 133 SG - “Maximum Healing” isn’t a dnd 5e spell, to my knowledge. though there are many healing spells in dnd, I don’t think any of them have the express purpose of bringing someone up to full. it’s usually based on dice.
Feats + other shit
CK - Pg 188 Magnus says “berserker blitz!” which is probably a translation of “reckless attack”
Know thy enemy = know your enemy (a feat Magnus gets for being a battle master archetype fighter)
Transmutation mastery = transmuter’s stone (a feat Taako gets @ 6th level for being a transmutation wizard) (probably bc one dangerous rock is enough lol)
destroy undead is a toughie
it’s technically not a spell (not in the way Merle is using it), it’s a use of Channel Divinity (a cleric feat), and while at first it’s called “turn undead”, when you reach level 5 you get to automatically destroy any low-level undead (each time you level up you can destroy one level up of undead), so the ability is called “destroy undead” from that point onward, but you still do the turning bit too, for undead that are higher level than your “destroy undead” threshold.
Ring of chilling frost = ring of frost
Loafers of leaping and springing = boots of striding and springing
Uncanny dodge (a rogue feat) is mentioned when Magnus is doing rogue training with Carey in the 11th hr gn
on their little ‘level up’ pages in the 11th hour gn, it says Magnus is a 10th lvl fighter and 1st lvl rogue, then lists Merle and Taako as a 10th level cleric and a 10th level wizard. that would mean Magnus is an 11th level character, while Taako and Merle are still 10th level. I’m pretty sure Magnus is 9th level fighter 1st level rogue (making him also a 10th level character) in the podcast, but I could be wrong. not super important.
thieves cant = thieves cant (not a spell but worth mentioning)
pg 205 SG Merle mentions that clerics channel their power through holy symbols, like his bible. this is true in dnd 5e, no wording change or anything.
pg SG pg 44 - they do level up in the podcast to level 12.
just a whole separate god damn paragraph for this one:
Murder on the Rockport Limited pg 189 - much going on here.
The text suggests that the spell is “spare the dying” but that’s a cantrip which Merle should have for free and Griffin says its a “5th level spell” but he means that Merle is only 4th level and he needs to be 5th level to cast this spell, not that the level of spell is 5.
At 5th level, clerics gain access to 3rd level spells, so I think he means that Merle can’t cast 3rd level spells since he’s only a 4th level cleric. So we’re looking for a 3rd level spell that clerics can use.
It could be two spells, and I’m pretty sure I know which one it is - Revivify. Technically it could also be Mass Healing Word but I think he’d have healed Taako too if that was the case, and if Magnus was Dead Dead (which I don’t think he was) it wouldn’t do anything.
death in dnd is weird. If you drop to 0 hit points, you are knocked unconscious (though colloquially this is often referred to as death). You then have to make death saving throws (roll a d20, no modifiers) - 3 successes you are stable, 3 fails you’re Dead Dead.
BUT
You die immediately if the damage you take minus the health you have left is more than your hit point total. So, if you go farther into the negatives than your hit point maximum, it’s insta death.
I don’t think this happened to Magnus. Angus survived the jump just fine. I think the boys misunderstood how death works bc it’s confusing. fair.
But the gist is Merle wants to cast Revivify, Griffin says he’s not high enough level, they convince him, even though it wasn’t really necessary in the first place.
this exchange does not occur in the podcast. Magnus falls unconscious and is healed with no problem.
a pattern I’ve noticed is as they go on, more and more things have their normal dnd names. lmk if you know why that is - maybe bc of the whole OGL/dnd one drama?

I've seen some other people talking about this and I share their concerns, but the only people I've seen say anything (including myself) are white, which is an objectively terrible way to discuss race. Please just ignore/delete this if I'm overstepping or anything, but I think your thoughts particularly (I do mean you personally, not just Black taz fans generally but obviously those too) would be insightful here. So: Lucas, the slave owner and all around bad person, is Black. Good design choice?
This is a lot, so I’m going to address some things before giving my opinion on the matter:
1.) If you don’t see poc talking about issues like this right off the bat, there’s usually a reason. I know that I, myself was planning to wait another day after the previews released to speak at all. Usually people who are still excitable about something they enjoy are less likely to acknowledge criticism and more likely to go on the defensive. And when you’re the one most impacted by a circumstance, you gotta be strategic in order to be listened to.
2.) I’m black, however I do not interpret Lucas Miller’s design to be black. I had to look through the previous books to check, but he's been hinted at since the first graphic novel, (first time when THB arrived on the moon base and second time during the solar eclipse). His character design then was, I would say, ambiguously brown (like the trope). But with this latest gn I assume that he is more explicitly supposed to look Desi, brown, etc. So I feel my position on this is tangential, but not absolute.
3.) D:
So THOUGHTS:
My main concern is that, in the context of the podcast, him being brown and keeping the bugbears in a state of slavery is objectively bad. Full stop. The whole controlling a family of already sentient beings to work in lifetime servitude is already gross, but, you know. I think most folks who listened to the podcast first pictured Lucas as a pimply, scrawny, pasty as hell nerd, and I think that makes sense in regards to his character. These people are still going to have those associations when reading the books. But for the people going from book to podcast, or not going to listen to the podcast at all, him being brown will be associated with the terrible things that he does in canon.
Him generally being an awful person—excluding the plot point of the bugbears—while being brown, is also not great. But with all cases of media, the more people of color introduced into the cast, the more appropriate it is to have a wider variety of personalities. I am thinking of Sloane as a point of comparison. Even though she’s the main antagonist of PttM, we can clearly see that her antagonism not rooted in who she is as a person, and by the end she is redeemed by her positive qualities.
Tangent: I am assuming that Maureen is also going to be depicted similar to Lucas. She is an objectively good character, and that is rep that I would like to see, but she’s dead and in a robot body most of the story :/ (and that is a talking point for another day.)
I don’t know how Lucas’s storyline is going to be adapted and/or modified. From what we’ve seen of Klarg (G’nash) having the faulty charm person spell, I don’t know how that bodes for the rest of the bugbears. In the grand plot of the podcast, Lucas is still a dickhead, but he makes efforts to make up for his misdeeds. I want that to be made more explicit in the graphic novels. In my opinion, best case scenario would be to cut the whole enslaved bugbear plot point entirely. Second best, make it clear that they are not in a state of slavery, that they are acting within their realm of free will, and are treated with respect as employees or some other role within the story. Worst case, the plot point goes unchanged and this is what we have.

Listening to Balance again for the… 4th or 5th time(?) and had the idea of Taako and Lup as Luke and Leia. Not sure if my design for Lup is too much Leia and not enough Lup, but we’ll see once I’ve inked and colored it. Considering Merle as either Obi-Wan or Yoda (or possibly Lucretia), Barry as Han (so we can still have Blupjeans), Klarg/G’Nash as Chewie (but at the same time, Magnus does have a pension for tearing off arms), and Magnus as Din and Angus as Grogu.

Petals to the Metal Graphic Novel: Taako’s Sexuality References
SPOILER FREE
Alright I know I said I was done for now to let everyone read in peace, BUT!
There are a few moments in the new graphic novel that explicitly make reference to Taako being into guys and I am SO excited about them laying this groundwork for his character more explicitly than in the podcast!
I tell ya I SQUEALED with delight when I read this first one (my dog jumped up to check that I wasn’t dying), wherein the THB are first arriving in Goldcliff and about to introduce themselves to their Bureau contact, Captain Captain Bane. I don’t want to spoil his character design for those who haven’t gotten the book yet, but he defo qualifies for this distinction, and this whole interaction just reads very Clint and Justin.
Also, during the Battlewagon race when Klarg (or G’nash in the graphic novels) catches Taako after he is charmed by the grasshoppers using the magic crystal ball (and wow ain’t that a sentence), there is a MAJOR blush on our fav flip wizard as he looks at his savior from actual certain death.
I’m just saying everyone, this elf is Gay as Fuck™, and apparently a fan of Brick Shithouse big bois-- can’t wait to see the ramifications of THAT on the character designs for our good sweet Kravitz.
The amount of awesome little details in this new graphic novel are just SO SO good!!!
