For @steddiemicrofic "fool" | M | 454 | no cw | medieval AU, hoh Steve, mute Eddie, fade to black, established relationship
Dingdingdingdingding.
The constant jingle was surprisingly easy to get used to. In a way it became a part of him, alerting others of his presence, warning them, "shut your yaps! The Royal Fool is listening."
Not many cared about the warning, though. In their eyes, a jester without a tongue was as good as dead. He heard them whispering that the king should get someone actually entertaining more than once. None of them complained when he flipped out his lute, though.
When his king sat alone on his throne, disinterested and weary, he'd lean down and shake the hat in his face.
Dingdingdingdingding.
King Harrington would look up with a smile, without a hitch. Sometimes it was an amused smile, sometimes tired, and sometimes, it was dark. His fool liked all of them equally, but the dark smile was the most special.
When the guests leave and the servants gather to clean up, his real job starts. No one bats an eye as he follows the king to his chambers, he has a room adjecent to them anyway. He's a busy guy, playing the role of a personal servant on top of being the court's entertainer. He helps his king dress up in the morning and get ready for bed at night. He helps him plan and rule.
Behind closed doors, Eddie has his king's full attention.
His hands were flying, mouth forming words he couldn't voice, passing information he'd gathered around the party.
"Slow down, damn it," the king told him from the bed. "Got somewhere to be?"
Eddie glared at him. He looked down pointedly at the king's lap then back up. The king laughed.
"What did he say? Go on," he signed the words as he spoke. It always made Eddie more compliant, knowing he and his king had their own language, known only to them. He signed back all he had gathered from the courtier's gossip that day.
Good job, fool, he signed, when Eddie's arms dropped at his sides.
Dingdingdingdingding.
The hat jingled when the man shook his head.
"No?" The king raised his eyebrow.
Not fool, Eddie explains.
"Ah," the king nods in understanding and corrects himself. Sorry, love.
He barely has the time to reach out, when he gets a lap full of colorful fabric, bells, and long limbs. His jester settles against him with a content sigh and starts grinding almost immediately, the horny little creature. Without further prompting, he flips back and rolls them on the expensive sheets, his jester's hair losing the hat and splaying against the pillows.
"A kiss and I'll ride you?" he offers.
Eddie rolls his eyes but reaches up, tangles his fingers in the man's hair, and pulls him down.

To the end Of Love
Zaprzestań poszukiwania Myszko.Nie szukaj więcej. Ja Jestem polem żyznym dla ciebie. Skad weźmiesz pole żyzne - Znudziły mi się Twoje szarady. Powiedz wprost. Powiedz na wskroś. Jestem na to gotowa. -Nie ma na to odpowiedzi. Na to twoje "dlaczego". Szlachetna. Jesteś i tak prosta. Jesteś i tak skromna. Jesteś i tak szlachetna.A nie sprośna , ohydna, okrutna. To nie była prawda. Nie byłą. Nie. - Zaszlachtowałam rzezimieszka. Oprawcę. Trutnia. Nałogi. Gry. Eklezjastę. - Eklezjastę zostaw w spokoju. , mój ty błękitny narodzie. -Czemu błękitny ? - Jak błękitna Statua Wolności. Może być? -Może. - Są to rzeczy o których trudno wiedzieć. Trudno wiedzieć, a co dopiero pisać. - Mrzonki ? -Nie. -Talent mi się gubi. -To nie jest mrzonka. Zresztą i tamto nie było - Zamykam drzwi od pokoju i znajduję się w kuchni. To moja rodzina. Czuję mocny duchowy związek. -Powinnaś tam być. -To Chrystus , Mój pierwszy pokarm. Spaceruję w chmurach . jak nago. Jak proso. Jak gąska. -Mylisz się . Nie jak gąska. -Przekombinowałam. -A noc taka długa. Rozjaśniejesz Myszko. Ze szczęściem ci do twarzy. - Rozumiem . -Nie sądzę.

Who was Stánczyk?
Stańczyk (also known as Stasiu Gąska, literally "Stan the Goose", but the connotation of "goose" was that of a fool) was the court jester of four Polish kings of the Jagiellon dynasty - Jan Olbracht (John Albrecht), Aleksander, Zygmunt Stary (Sigismund the Old) and Zygmunt August (Sigismund Augustus). An unusual jester by his contemporaries' standards, he was known for quick wit and talking back to his lords without fear of punishment. He was very much a public figure, walking among the citizens of Krakow in full jester regalia (checkered outfit, donkey-eared hat and a fool's stick) despite often being accosted by ruffians. In fact, when once some muggers took his surcoat and the king laughed about it, he bit back with "You say I let myself get robbed like a fool? Your enemies took Smoleńsk from you and you didn't even protest".
Remarks like this made his legend grow very quickly, and he was probably the only jester in Poland whom courtiers didn't ridicule all the time, aware of his jokes always having a deeper meaning and afraid that he might turn his satire against them. Over the course of the renaissance era he became a symbol of wisdom and patriotism, and his likeness became popular again in the second half of 19th century, when Poland was under foreign occupation (at that time, his image was a visual shorthand for opposition against the occupants). The painting in this post comes from 1862 and is titled Stańczyk at the ball in the court of Queen Bona, pondering the loss of Smoleńsk. Here's another one:
BThis one is Stańczyk by Leon Wyczółkowski, painted in 1898. He is also one of the ghosts of polish history in the national drama Wesele (The Wedding, 1901).
Basically, using Stańczyk's image as some sort of villain symbol is absolutely contrary to his actual symbolism as a person or as an allegory - if anything, he's the concerned person who sees all the crap happening while the rich and powerful have fun and refuse to listen to any warnings. A very potent symbol these days, if people just stopped making him a stupid meme without understanding his context. Greta Thunberg is very much a Stańczyk type character, for example. Think about it.
I'll end with one more anecdote about him. Once, his penultimate lord (and the penultimate king in the Jagiellon dynasty) took his pregnant wife Bona on a hunting trip. He had been gifted a fierce bear by his Lithuanian subjects, and ordered it to be released for the hunt. Instead of running, the angry bear attacked his camp, causing a panic, and in the commotion Bona lost her unborn son, who would have been Sigismund Augustus' brother. When the king scolded Stańczyk for running like a fool instead of defending the queen from the bear, the jester asked: "Who is the bigger fool? He who runs from a bear or he who releases it to his own detriment?" This comment is considered criticism of not only Sigismund taking his wife into the thick of danger, but also on his general politics - such as losing a chunk of his country (including the aforementioned Smoleńsk) to the tsar despite being victorious in the war, or accepting the Teutonic Knights' surrender and transformation into a secular vassal state instead of seizing the lands they lawlessly occupied. Most pointedly, the bear incident was one of the reasons why the Jagiellon dynasty ended - when Augustus died childless, he had no brother to inherit the crown and keep Poland stable, ushering the age of elective kings.
