“Get your gloating over with, Gander,” Magica growls, stalking over to the Number One podium. He’s swifter than her, much closer to it than she had been, and the preemptive nearness allows him to drape himself over it with the same lazy stretch that always manages to irritate everyone around him. Gladstone spreads his fingers over the glass, framing the golden dime inside; her gaze falls to it before she’s back to glaring daggers at him.

“I had plans for today, y’know?” he tells her instead of an answer, batting his lashes in a mockery of flirtation. It’s not quite a lie. “Won a couple of free meals at that new French bakery, a year-round pass for the movies.”

She seethes, silent.

Gladstone smirks, looking down at her, and his tongue is bitter, bitter. “Even had a date.”

It’s a lie. Of course, of course it’s a lie, petty and smug and terrible, because much to his eternal resentment he hasn’t been able to get over her, hasn’t managed to put his heart in it whenever some new pretty duck waltzes her way into his arms. He wants to see if it hurts her, wants to see her flinch and pull back, wants to see her grit her teeth in frustration and taste that rot-sweet jealousy he’s learned to live with every day.

And yet, he’s too much of a coward to look just yet. He makes a show of studying his fingers, of admiring the tips of his well-groomed feathers as he readies his next cutting words. “Pretty little thing, you know? Blonde, wears glasses - seems like I have a type, eh, ‘Matilda’?”

He manages to play it off for one second. One second, before he’s chancing a glance at her expression, and there’s something that could even have been called vulnerable there, if it hadn’t been Magica and if a sneer hadn’t covered it so fast that it feels like a sucker-punch to the gut. But a second passes too quickly, uncaring for his aching heart, and she stalks away without another word: he’s quick to follow. She’s not getting rid of him that easily.

“Oh, come on,” he forces out, and even his casual façade is cracking at the edges, oozing out the resentment he’s been locking away since he realized she was not coming back. “Wouldn’t that be such a fun talk? Remember the good times we had, with you lying and me–”

“There’s nothing to talk about, you fortunate fiend,” she snaps, turning back to him. “I tricked you, I saved you, we moved on, end of the story. Now step aside and let me get to the dime!”

“Oh, feel free to go for it.” Gladstone draws a bow, presenting the podium behind him mockingly. He has plenty of practice at playing the irreverent cad, the smug winner, the bragging jerk. Donald can certainly vouch for it. “But let us not forget I still have my luck, you don’t have your powers, and we’re both locked in the room until Uncle Scrooge comes back to deal with you. So please do take on those chances and let’s see who comes out on top, yes?”

“Excellent,” she bites out, and turns her back to him again. “Just excellent. Couldn’t wish for better company than you, that’s for sure.”

Gladstone manages a terrible smirk, though she’s not looking. She never is. “That’s not what you said last time.”

It would not align to the moon. The synodic month (that is, measuring by what we see from the Earth) is 29.5 days, longer than four seven-day weeks by one and a half days, so a calendar that matches the phases of the moon exactly...

1. Does not perfectly match the days of the week

2. Ends up having about a third of a month more than 12 months a year.

The most notable calendar that tries to line up to both the sun and the moon is the Hebrew calendar, used in Jewish religious practice. For number 1, the usual month is 29 or 30 days, roughly alternating, with days added or removed in particular places to avoid certain numerical dates hitting the Sabbath where it could cause trouble. For number 2, seven out of every nineteen years have a month repeated, and in fact we're a few days away from entering an Adar II (hi @fynneyseas !).

Unfortunately for any attempt to make the calendar nice in that sense, the giant rocks and balls of plasma rocketing around each other do not care about making nice numbers that divide each other.

(In fact, when orbital periods divide each other nicely like that, most of the time it makes things *less* stable! But that's a story for a different post)

oh man ok i’m so glad you asked for this

Petty shirt: When me and my friend Neri were still getting to know each other we went to this conference and carpooled together. When they got out of the car i realized they were like super tall compared to me and ofc bc they’re a jackass they started making fun of me. But the universe is about karma so later on that day they found this shirt they really liked but guess what, it didn’t fit them because their arms were too long. Me, who God had chosen for this moment, immediately put that shirt on and realized it fit me perfectly. So i took it and now every time they need a reminder of how petty i am i wear it. Also it’s kinda the day our friendship was solidified so 

4/20: Me and my friends got five orders of chicken fries at burger king but here’s the thing we went through the drive thru, they made me order despite the fact i wasn’t driving, they were laughing super hard in the back, i had to ask for five voltron toys because that’s the whole reason we went in the first place. We’re 90% sure they thought we were high

Someone at the pride center once commented on how close friends my two friends were, they were dating each other at the time. (ofc it was a straight person who said this)

I worked a shitty job starting a month after i got there but i got free movies for a year so that was cool

Last year I went to: 2 concerts, one comedian, universal studios, six flags twice, yosemite, la fair, Anime expo, and pride all of which i’d either never done or had done only once prior

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, TAKE CARE OF THEM

I literally cannot stress this enough. I don’t care what you’re doing with your hands: typing, drawing, knitting, writing, sewing, gardening, sculpting, pottery, mail delivery, lab-work, IT DOESN’T MATTER--all these small movements, precision movements, heighten the chances that you’ll get carpal tunnel syndrome.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

You’ve likely heard of it before. Your favorite artist(s) probably complain that they can’t draw for extended periods of time now.

“Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that causes numbness, tingling and other symptoms in the hand and arm. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by a compressed nerve in the carpal tunnel, a narrow passageway on the palm side of your wrist.” (Via the Mayo Clinic)

The nerves in your hands and wrists have a casing, like the rubber or plastic around cords and wires that are all over your house/apartment/dwelling. When you do too much repetitive movements, these casings get tighter and constrict the nerves. This leads to tingling, numbing, constantly cold fingers, etc. 

BUT THAT’S NOT THE HALF OF IT.

GUYS. I’M SO WORRIED FOR ANYONE WHO USES THEIR HANDS. MY MOM WAKES UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT CRYING BECAUSE HER PAIN IS SO BAD. Her hands numb up, circulation up to her neck gets cut off, and her whole arm goes numb. Her muscles tense up too. I have to hold her glass of water sometimes because she’ll drop it. She’s only 46 and she already can’t button her shirts. Sometimes she can’t grip the steering wheel and someone has to drive in her place. The tips of her fingers have been numb since the start of the summer--it’s been 3 months. She can pick hot food up with them and not get burned because her nerve ends are dying. (The doctors in America say this is irreversible, but my aunt in Jordan who is also a surgeon says that the tips of her fingers were also numb but after she did a surgery to open the nerve casings, the nerves came back to life--only possible if you do an operation immediately.)

You guys, this is a serious condition but there are remedies. 

As mentioned, surgeries are available. They open up your wrist and open the casings to free the nerves, giving them more mobility--freeing them from constriction. You can’t use your hands for 3 or so months, but after that you’re free to do whatever.

massages and stretches. All these do the work to loosen muscles and nerves to stretch them out, to help them be more pliable. YOU HAVE TO DO THESE. They help a ton, I promise. My mom recently started going to physical therapy, but because she has moderate-to-severe carpal tunnel in both hands, all she can do is manage the pain.

braces. You can pick these up at a local drugstore for ~$15 (US) or get them from your doctor. These braces have a piece of metal in them arranged at an angle designed to stretch out the nerves. It relaxes the muscles and nerves. Please get a pair if you think you’ll have carpal tunnel for a while 

lotions, salves, and essential oils. These can help relax muscles and nerves to alleviate pain and make it easier to stretch or sleep

not a remedy but: invest in thicker writing utensils. Like the kind kindergartners use. Fat pencils and crayons and pens make gripping easier and lessen the tension on how tight you have to hold the pen. I have a friend who writes a single check and has to take a break because her hand goes numb. Get thicker pens.

IF YOU CATCH CARPAL TUNNEL EARLY ENOUGH, YOU CAN REVERSE OR REMEDY THE EFFECTS FOR A LONG TIME. 

I’m not diagnosed and I’m not a doctor but I know what it feels like. I know what it looks like to have someone deal with untreated carpal tunnel. 

Please please please please take care of your hands. There are so many people I want to tag, so many creators, but I can’t reach them all. Please share this and please care for your hands. Because of the rising rate of technology and touch-screens, the rate of those who experience carpal tunnel is going up and they get diagnosed much younger. (2011 stats) (Breakdown of risk factors)
