The battle was devastating. Gert is dead.

"How do we go on without her?", Karolina murmured, her voice cracking. She looked at Nico with pain and despair.

Nico sat next to Karolina, not knowing what to say or what to do. "I don't know," she finally replied, barely a whisper.

Without Gert, the future seemed uncertain. Karolina wanted to say something, but the words just wouldn't come out.

"Now we've to be strong, not only for ourselves but also for her. But how? I don't know if I've the strength to go on." Nico commented.

They had no more hope.

GREAT QUESTION. this is where we get into 3x10 territory. idk if you've seen me lose mind abt 3x10, but it is both my worst enemy and my favourite episode.

it is the final episode of the whole show. and in the previous episode, gert dies. now this episode is abt 3 years after her death, (day of idk why), and they've all kinda moved on w their lives, w/o forgetting her or anything. nico runs away the day after gert dies and stays isolated. karolina waits 2 years b4 finding a new girl. they all move on except chase (gert's bf). he spends 10 years after her death inventing time travel. right as he's about to go back to save gert, alex steals one of the watches and goes back in time to kill nico, yeah. he's evil now. no, it doesn't make sense.

anyway, now we're back in that 3y timeline and alex goes to nico's apartment and tries to kill her but she's. good at magic. and stops him like w/o even trying. chase follows him and explains everything and now the other runaways all reunite. so for clarification, nico, kar, molly and alex from the 3y timeline. chase from the future and evil alex from the future.

nico and kar are like reunited again after 3 years, and things are tense and julie's there and it's so awkward. anyway a bunch of things happen and they're all back to the day gert dies.

nico gives her younger self a pep talk and tells her to never leave karolina no matter what. things are fixed and gert lives and the broken up future deanoru (and the others) all. stop existing. bc gert lived.

and karolina and nico and the others all live happily. it's implied. i mean. evil alex left the younger him a note saying to kill nico and no one knows of the time travel mattered so.

i like to think they are happy.

marvel's runaways season 3 episode 10. god. what did they do to my boy indeed. LONG RAMBLE UNDER CUT @loganschwarzy

so some context, the second to last episode, there's a big fight one of them dies (gert). and so the very next episode (last of the show), is a time jump. 3 years after gert's death (2021 or 2022). for simplicity, these the 3 year runaways

nico left immediately after gert died, she blamed herself and her powers and lived in isolation to improve and keep the others safe.

karolina is heartbroken for some time, and waits 2 years until moving on. she's goes to ucla and i think is studying psych (with a minor in arts in my heart), she has a gf, julie. who is played by billie eilish's sister in law (yk). she's thriving. her hair is short now.

molly is a senior at atlas and she's cheer captain!! younger kids look up to her and she lives with old lace and chase at the hostel still.

alex (my favourite ever, have i told you that) works with his dad at his tech/engineering company? he's thriving, he's in his element. he's smiling. he works with chase to help him with his time travel. he and the others have karaoke nights.

chase. has doubled in within himself after gert died. he rarely comes out of his room. he rarely leaves the hostel. molly wishes he would spend more time with her, she already lost her big sister, she doesn't wanna lose her brother either. he is shut himself in and thrown himself into inventing time travel.

with alex's help and also the abstract, it takes another 7 years but he does. he invents time travel. for love. he says a really good line abt it. ask again some other time, i'll have it.

now in these seven years, outside. someone in the group tries to blow up alex's office at his work. he survives. but he grows to start hating the others and becomes hell bent on getting revenge. although, there is no proof as to who did it, it apparently was someone in the group. these alex and chase are 10 years runaways.

so just as chase is abt to go back in time to save gert, alex steals one his two time watches and goes back to the day nico reunites with the group. (that same day we meet the 3 year future runaways.) evil alex tries to kill alex but, she is so much better at her powers and stops him. pretty damn easily. and he runs off. 10y chase is close behind and he and 3y nico group up with the others.

chase finds out that 10y alex is gonna use julie to get to karo. and they all group up at karo's apartment. and then 10y alex runs off to go try to mess up the runaways at the beginning of the show so they never get together. and the others follow after him. they find him on a bus. that the younger alex is getting on. and he's like what. i get contacts in the future?? he's so <3

they catch him and sit him down. and then they all agree to go back and save gert. they send 3y alex to the star wars hotel to keep him away bc 2 alexs is complicated. and they go to save gert but alex gets knocked out or smth. he doesn't get brought up again. and then they all disappear.

it's he incredibly confusing bc like. the only possible explanation for him being evil is the magistrate's son is still possessing him. but if that was the case, 3y alex would've also shown signs of evilness. which he does not. and also. 10y alex. isn't entire evil. in fact. the way he quietly listens and reacts to the others at times heavily looks like he still cares abt them so so much. he's just really hurt. but the way he looks at deanoru while they're having their angsty relationship talks is so so soft and loving. for someone who is evil and wants to kill them.

so yeah!! 3 alexs. my boy.

We’re All That’s Left

Molly gently lowers Karolina onto one of the couches in the foyer, the four of them releasing a collective sigh as soon as the younger girl straightens. Gert turns and collapses into Chase’s arms, wrapping her own around tightly around his waist. Nico approaches the unconscious woman, lowering herself into a cross-legged position on the floor below Karolina’s head. She raises a hand to brush away the small strands of hair covering her face, biting her lower lip as it starts to quiver. Molly and Alex share a glace, quietly excusing themselves. Gert whispers something to Chase, and he nods, pressing a kiss to the top of her head before following them. Gert crosses her arms, swallowing thickly as she watches Nico’s careful touches, as though she fears Karolina will shatter if she presses too hard. She forces herself to take a few steps forward, placing a hand on one of Nico’s sagging shoulders. “We got her. She’s okay, Nico.” “Barely,” she whispers, tearing her attention away from Karolina for a fleeting moment. She turns as Gert crouches beside her, the edges of her mascara heavily smudged. “I left her. Again.” she chokes out. “Hey,” Gert lifts a thumb to wipe away some of the moisture, the protest she was expecting dying in Nico’s throat as a strained cry washes over it. “Nico, she would have done it if you’d agreed to it or not,” she points out. “She literally has a track record at this point.” A reluctant laugh bubbles out of the other woman’s mouth. She sobers quickly as Karolina stirs, relaxing as she exhales deeply, still asleep. The two women sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes before Nico breaks the quiet. “Thank you, Gert.”   “Of course.”

The others return to the lobby later in the afternoon, giving the two women a few hours to themselves. Karolina still sleeps soundly, save for the tense expression on her face.

Nico rises as the others convene at the bottom of the staircase, crossing her arms as she makes her way over. “She hasn’t moved.” “Neither have you,” Chase points out, tossing her a bottle of water. “You’ve been through a lot, Nico.” Gert nods, reaching for his hand. “You should get some sleep. Have you gone to bed since-” “No,” Nico interrupts. “Not strictly by choice, but-” she looks over her shoulder, inhaling as she turns back to the group. “I’ll sleep when she’s awake.” As if on cue, Karolina shoots to her feet. Chase is the first to notice. His expression lights up for a moment. “Hey-” he begins, starting to wave before his smile disappears. “GET DOWN!” He pushes Gert out of the way, following the others as they roll to the side. A wave of energy sails past them, colliding into the wall with a reverberating boom that echoes throughout the subterranean hotel. “What the hell?” Molly bellows, helping Alex up. Karolina stands defensively in the doorway to the dining room, eyes darting around the hostel. “Hey!” Gert yells. “It’s us! You’re okay. You’re-” She screams as the taller girl faces her. Chase steps between them, gauntlets raised. “Please don’t make me do this,” he says, breathing heavily. “You’re safe. We’re safe. Nico, Molly, Alex, and Xavin got us out. We aren’t going to hurt you.” Karolina shakes her head. “That isn’t any help,” she calls out. “Where the hell am I?” “We’re at the hostel,” Molly offers, gesturing to the mansion. “We only found it because you crashed through the roof a few weeks ago.” “I’m pretty sure I would’ve remembered a place like this.” Karolina says, taking in the expansive home. “Karolina?” The taller girl’s attention follows the soft-spoken beckon, falling on the darkly-accented woman who’d uttered it. Her chest falls with a baited breath as she slowly lowers her outstretched arms. “How do you know my name?” Nico takes a few steps forward, raising a hand as she slowly approaches her. “It’s me.” she says, once she’s close enough for a private conversation. She smiles slightly as she takes in Karolina’s soft, flushed cheeks. It’s a conscious effort to keep herself from reaching out to feel their warmth, only stopped by the sudden realization of how lost her alert, blue eyes are. Karolina gives a slight shake of her head, desperately searching Nico for an answer. “I don’t know who you are.” Chase lowers the fistigons. “Oh, shit.” Gert is shaking her head, and Molly wrings her hands together as she turns away from the scene. Alex lowers himself onto the steps, dragging his hands over his face. The corners of her Karolina’s brows pull together, though her confused expression quickly morphs as moisture begin to collect in the corners of the other girl’s eyes. “I’m sorry.” she offers, helplessly, as Nico starts to turn away, feeling a foreign tug at the way the girl begins to crumble. Nico ignores the others as they call out to her, taking the steps two at a time until she reaches the second landing. She disappears into the first room she finds, quickly unsheathing the Staff of One and muttering a hoarse incantation. Once the silence starts to strangle her, she breaks. The stave clatters to the ground as she falls to her knees, chest heaving as her lungs scream for more air than her rapid breathing can provide. A guttural, jagged screech writhes it’s way through her throat, quickly fading into steady sobs. Somewhere beyond her muffled eardrums she hears a voice pleading, soft and desperate: no, no, no, no. ----- She waits until the solitary beam of twilight fades from the warped floorboards before moving, blindly reaching for the staff as she pulls herself to her feet. She catches a glimpse of herself in the dresser’s cracked mirror as she stands, briefly taking in her swollen eyes and shadowed cheeks. She spends a few minutes attempting to clean herself up before making her way towards the door and opening it. Gert peeks around the corner, quickly rising to her feet. “Thank goodness.” Nico steps into the hallway slowly, gesturing to the scattered mass of pillows and blankets. “What’s this?” The violet-haired girl looks down. “We went to check on you a few minutes after everything, and it was completely silent. Wanted to make sure you were okay,” she winces. “Not in danger, I mean.” “Sorry I worried you guys,” she apologizes, looking sheepish. “Just said the first spell that came to mind.” “You don’t need to be sorry for anything,” Gert reminds her, sneaking a hand into the back pocket of her jeans. “Molly and I got her settled into a room.”   Nico preoccupies herself with a loose string on her cardigan. A short silence passes between them before a timid voice cracks through. “Is she okay, aside from-” “Yeah,” Gert assures her, nodding. “She’s completely fine, physically.” Nico nods, swallowing hard. “That’s good.” Gert mimics her, before turning to start collecting the comforters into her arms. “Dinner is in ten, if you’re feeling up to it. I can bring you something, if it’s too much.” “I’ll be there.” The other girl pauses. “Hey,” she brushes a strand of hair behind her ear, shuffling slightly. “This is all new to Karolina, too. She’s going to have a million questions, but I think,” she breathes in. “We should go slowly.” Her cracked facade must let something slip. ”She might still be in there somewhere,” Gert amends quickly. “I just don’t want her to be overwhelmed.” The smaller girl lets out a noise of agreement, before pointing towards the opposite wall. “I should probably go fix-” she gestures to herself. “this.” Gert musters a smile over the bundle before heading towards her and Chase’s room. Nico follows after her, taking a left towards her own. Once the door closes behind her, she sets on trying to correct her ruined makeup, letting the familiar routine distract her from- well, everything.    She emerges after a quarter of an hour, descending the stairs and following the muted conversation. There is a short moment of silence as she emerges from the shadows. She nods, the half-hearted smile she flashes them seemingly enough encouragement for them to continue. She takes a seat next to Molly, placing one of the table’s dusty centerpieces between her view of the end of the table.

Deanoru Fic: Every time you shine, I'll shine for you

Summary: Nico looks back at how she has been falling in love with Karolina her whole life, in more ways than one.

Nico realized she loved Karolina rather quickly. It didn’t take much time once they got together for Nico to notice she was falling hard.

Looking back at it, Nico noticed she had loved Karolina her whole life in one way or the other. First, as her childhood friend, then, after Amy’s death, as someone she didn’t talk to, but once knew better than most. Finally, when the discovery of their parents’ secret brought them together again, Karolina took an even bigger place in Nico’s heart.

It was nerve-wracking and confusing and painful. It was also blissful and sweet and light, like most things about Karolina are.

Nico didn’t realize it back then, but she was already falling for Karolina. Nico was falling as Kare stared at her through the mirror of a disgusting high school bathroom. As she mindlessly placed the strands of Karolina’s hair behind the girl’s ear, as she lost focus every time Karolina lit up, blood rushing to her ears and hands reaching uncontrollably towards the other girl, willing to catch Karolina if she ever fell down during flying experimentations. Nico was falling as she helped Karolina get ready for stupid fancy parties, careful hands laying in her skin, timid smiles as they shared honest talks. She was falling even as someone else’s arms were around her, someone else’s lips against hers.

It didn’t matter who was standing by her side, Nico noted now, her heart was out of her chest already, absentmindedly following the kind girl with a breathtaking power and an even more gorgeous smile.

The thing with Karolina was that she brought out a side of Nico that no one ever could. With her, Nico was silly, careful, shy. With her, she would spend hours lying in bed, connecting Kare’s freckles with her fingertips, holding hands in the dark while whispering back and forth about their past, present and future. She would listen attentively to the best sound in the world: Karolina’s laugh, reverberating throughout Nico’s whole self.

With Karolina Dean, Nico Minoru knew there was no risk in falling. She would be met with just as much love as she gave.

So, again, knowing she loved Karolina was easy. The hard part was telling her. There were murderous parents, wicked phones, evil witches, time travel, death and dark dimensions standing between them, but, somehow, they made it through.

For some crazy miracle, Nico and Karolina survived, which meant Nico found herself in the Hostel again, Karolina’s head laying in her chest as they stayed in bed for the whole weekend, a gift they had rightfully earned after their second (or third?) time saving the world.

This time, there was nothing stopping Nico from saying it however she wanted to.

With a shock, Nico realizes she doesn’t truly want to say it any differently than how she said it the first time. Had they not gone through every single insane situation they had in their lives, Nico and Karolina wouldn’t be themselves. They wouldn’t be a unit, or a team, or a family.

Nico wouldn’t change that, not in a million years.

— Hey, Kare? — Nico whispers and her girlfriend moves a bit, head looking up, bright blue eyes staring into her. An easy smile comes up in Nico’s face as she brushes the golden strands of hair covering her girlfriend’s eyes ever so slightly.

— Yes, baby? — Karolina answers and Nico feels silly and stupid about how her heart races.

— I lamp you. — She says, even though it’s dumb and Karolina laughs loudly, shoving her head into Nico’s shoulder. For some seconds, there is nothing else in the world for Nico other than the feeling of Karolina’s body over hers, Kare’s laugh against her skin, soft hair tickling Nico’s arms.

— I lamp you too, Nico. — Karolina tells her, hand coming to rest against Nico’s cheek. She moves and Nico knows what comes next, but still blushes and smiles dumbly as Karolina presses their lips together, lights flashing so bright Nico can tell so even with her eyes closed

— I love the way you shine. — Karolina whispers against her lips and, this time, Nico is the one laughing, surprised.

— I’m pretty sure you’re the bright one out of the two of us. — Nico states, hands running through her back, softly caressing Karolina.

— That’s not what I meant. You don’t shine like me, for everyone to notice. You do it when nobody is watching. I can’t explain, but I see it every time you smile like this. Every time you tell me what you’re feeling, every time you kiss me and touch me. I feel it anytime I catch your eye.

Nico is speechless, feeling like she might die if she doesn’t kiss this girl again and again and again for the rest of her life, but she still masters some strength to answer her.

— I only do it for you. — Nico confesses. Karolina snorts adorably, red covering her face. They’re ridiculous and cheesy, but they are too happy, too free to really care.

Nico kisses her as she desperately wants to and they laugh with each other as clothes fly across the room and light invades their bedroom. They smile and whisper each other’s names, both shining in their own ways.

It is familiar and still so brand new, it’s home, it’s real, it’s safe.

It’s them.

Question: So I have this fun little project in mind that I’m gonna write out sometime in the future. I’ve recently gotten into writing out battle raps and one I want to do is a “MCU Couples Battle Royale”. The couples I have in mind are...

So what I’m asking for is, what insults would you like to see included in the rap? I can think of a lot of ways these couples could insult each other, but I wanted to see what y’all had in mind.

Note: Because of the nature of this post, I want to stress, THIS IS NOT AN ANTI-SHIPPING POST! This is supposed to be all in good fun, it’s just the nature of battle rap to be mean and insulting. If it helps, just think of this like a celebrity roast. We’re being rude but in the end, it’s just jokes.

Yooo the last episode of Runaways S3 was poetic AF  Given this was our sendoff, connecting the T.V. world to the comics world and bringing the show full circle was a GORGEOUS idea.  Seeing Nico pine for Karolina; and that Karolina obviously still had feelings for Nico all these years later; and seeing Nico interfere with her past self and urging her to not make the mistakes future self made...it hurt my heart in just the right way.  What makes comics!Deanoru so beautiful is how much it isn’t 100% a fairy tale, and how it mirrors disappointments and bad timing and heartbreak and fear/uncertainty in real life. But how, ultimately, despite all the challenges and misunderstandings, Nico and Karolina find each other and a healthy relationship in the end.  When TV!Deanoru faded out and Karolina said “Just find me” - I LITERALLY CRIED.  Look fam, I haven’t cried in 3 whole damn seasons. But that’s soulmate shit right there.  Getting married to your high school sweetheart without dating other people in between is just, not...I mean, how many people does that happen to? Maybe some, but not most of us. We’re kids in high school.  We have so much growing to do.  And Deanoru was able to grow with each other - but also without each other.  They weren’t each others’ whole worlds like they thought they were when they were 16, but they DID still want each other and would absolutely have gotten back together, regardless of future!Chase appearing. Cried again when they showed the “corrected” future, with all of them leaving together, arm in arm, walking out into this paradise-like golden morning light.  It was beautiful how much ALL the Runaways had grown to love and care about each other, and how perfect this future seemed.  Yet, you also are left knowing things still aren’t going to be an easy or straight road for them, as it never is for any of us. Challenges and betrayals await...and as you know from seeing the future...patience and love (yes, even self love/self work) will persevere in the end :,)
