I found a tobacco hornworm on my tomatoes this week. Lucky for it, I have a junky tomato volunteer plant that’s not producing. So I relocated it, and now I have a new pet lol.

This species gets super chonky so unless something eats it, I’ll have more pictures in the coming weeks. The adults are also quite large and beautiful, and they’re native pollinators, yay.

Begging you to deliberately allow cats to be wandering in and out of shots as they please in future endeavors. I want to reference that pose just so I can include Le Chonk. ♡

In fact, would you consider random animal packs as well? Certainly there are a ton of animal pictures out there on the internet but as an artist it would be worthwhile to me to have a known source I can go to for every possible angle and tons of well lit close-ups on a domestic shorthair, sphinx (rich friend?), or long-haired cat.

Ooh, or even better...a horse.

The cats I allow to participate when they desire and I usually attempt to not crop them out unnecessarily but I don't think they would be particularly receptive to forced participation. Part 2 of HELIOCENTRIC decided to be written, while I was waiting out a bombing. Things take place some time after Hyperspeed. Scott is rather popular with all creatures large and nerds. Parallel to Earth and Sky chatting, a rather unamused Brains has a heart-to-heart with an amused John.

HELIOCENTRIC 2: CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH

John leaned against a console, arms crossed, while Brains clanked a tablet on his lab table, too forcefully for it not to be deliberate. John gave their old friend room to seethe, before arching a brow.

"You think this is bad? Try being his brother in high school!"

Another piece of equipment gave a cluck it normally wasn't supposed to and John tilted his head.

"He was a Prom King, captain of every team he'd ever been on AND a valedictorian."

"Is that supposed to m-make m-me feel better?"

John didn't remember Brains ever sounding quite so bitter.

"Well, it certainly didn't add to our enjoyment of unforgettable school experience that shaped the remarkable future of next generation."

John tried to emulate the way Mr. Sanders, the Headmaster, sounded through a plastic smile in their prep school ad reels. It did little to unclasp Brains' death grip on a data disk. John was beginning to worry it was going to break. The ginger spaceman himself was, however, quite fond of the reminisce.

"We were the token uncool Nerd Entourage to the One True King - the Arts and Music Chonk and the Ginger Noodle Cybergeek."

John smiled at the inward image of the comical sight they might have made, hurrying across school grounds in the wake Mr. Longlegs and Dimples, practically greeted with rose petals and laurels on his way. Fellowship of the Ring had NOTHING on the Tracy motley crew. John tilted his head to catch Brains' gaze, which the scientist promptly averted.

"Yet he chose US."

"He chose YOU!"

John was not prepared for Brains almost shouting in his face.

"You're his b-brothers! Of c-course he'd choose you! Always!"

For the first time it occurred to John he might have misinterpreted the reasons for Brains' distress.

That stirred other memories, too. Not quite so sunny. Scott, disheveled and grey with fury, lip split in a fight, tossing a burly boy off of John by the hallway lockers. The senior from the football team being a brother of John's pal from the Robotics Club.

"You know, I had friends in the gifted program whose siblings pretended they weren't acquainted. Scott actually ENJOYED hanging out with us. He still does!"

A fact that, to that day, still managed to elicit the spaceman's genuine awe, on occasion.

"And he values your friendship. He chose you too."

He could see Brains still hesitate to be assured. John could maybe extrapolate the scientist's argument to Scott having "inherited" Brains from Jeff Tracy, rather than choosing to befriend him. John also couldn't pretend he didn't share the anguish, at least somewhat, since the Hyperloop incident introduced them to a force of nature that was Tycho Reeves. It was hard not to worry, on some level, Scott Tracy was gonna choose himself a different favorite genius.

John knew his brother well, he knew his brother better than that - Scott's loyalty, once offered, was never revoked. But insecurity was one of John's oldest acquaintances.

Brains finally put the data disc down, intact, and looked up at him. John offered a small smile. They were both too smart to be immune to doubt, but the whole world pretty much hinged on faith in Scott Tracy for the past almost eight years. They were among the exclusive and very scares circle of his favorite people. They were good.

One interns says Daniel must be having twins, but those who have seen the baby pictures know it’s just a very chonky baby

They have bets from hair colour, eye colour, and how many chunky rolls on the future chonk's arms and legs.

The intern is sure Daniel's having twins but people who've been with the team a while know that it's 1 because Max was a round chonk and Daniel also was a chonk.

There's even bets on when Daniel will get annoyed of Max's hovering. Vicky won that one early.

They eventually were transferred BACK to the USA where Jessica continued to grow up and attend Ilvermorny for only a couple of months before they were ultimately transferred BACK AGAIN to London where she started 5th year at Hogwarts, which was her very first year of having magic (she's a late bloomer) *Hints* opening game where she doesn't have a wand of her own, and is incredibly surprised by the amount of magic she sees at Hogwarts where she obviously meets Sebastian and Ominis who become her (truely real) best friends.

Usually found: in the undercroft learning how to play gobstones with the 2 Slytherin boys, sneaking into the kitchens after hours cuz she internal chonk, sneaking into the restricted section with Sebastian, in the front garden at the summoners court or in the clock tower participating in crossed wands. Sometimes in Feldcroft with Ominis taking care of Sebastian after his uncle dies suddenly and mysteriously 👀 (Sebastian technically owns the property after that)

Future career: Ancient Artifact Collector, (claims ownership of Borgin and Burkes later on) and Healer of sorts.

Some fics that I have read recently and that I liked and can recommend.

Marvel Fandom

1. A Year in the Life of Sarge's Person by BlueSimplicity

This is the tale of a year in the life of Sarge’s person, AKA James Buchanan Barnes, as he tries to recover from everything that’s happened to him over the past eighty years. During that time, he is forced to deal with bad therapists, people with their own agendas, memories he doesn’t want, horrible losses from his past and almost insurmountable odds.

But this is also the story of all the crazy people Bucky meets along the way, who help him when he’s at his lowest, point him in the right direction when he feels lost, make him laugh, grow to love him for who he is, and most importantly, give him hope when he needs it most.

It’s a long and difficult journey, as Bucky works not just to let go of his past, but to also rebuild his own identity and a future for himself. And with Sarge at his side, Bucky slowly comes to realize that not everything he once loved is lost, and if he can just have enough faith in himself and those around him, he might, just might, get his very own happy ending.

Bucky IS Sarge’s person after all. As the once abandoned puppy Bucky saved one night from freezing to death, he knows, more than anyone, just how much Bucky deserves it.

Oh my, I loved this so so much! 

I love fics that involve dogs (or animals). Bucky has a horrible therapist at the beginning, but not later on. His character development is so beautifully written, from the mechanical Winter Soldier to Bucky Barnes. The supporting characters are also great and not existing characters from the Marvel Universe but original characters from the author. Loved it!

2. The Trials and Tribulations of the Watermelon Werewolf by BlueSimplicity

It’s not easy being a werewolf, but Steve Rogers knows he’s lucky. Lehigh's doing well under his care, the humans and werewolves thriving. He doesn't have a mate, but a bonding like that is rare, and with all the members of his Pack already mated, he knows it’s not going to happen for him.

Until the day it does, the realization literally knocking him on his ass.

That’s fine; he can deal. He’s an alpha after all, and while there are rules to courting when one’s mate is human, he knows he can prove his worth. Except no one told him how hard it would be. And Steve is really bad at this. Really, REALLY bad.

After a couple of rough years, Bucky Barnes is back on his feet and ready to start a new phase of his life. He’s been given a second chance and while Lehigh might not be as big as NYC, he loves his apartment, chonk of a cat, new job and crazy neighbors.

Except things have started to get weird. Maybe it’s because of all the werewolves in town, although he’s never had a problem before. Yet he can’t help but notice things have changed, with people staring at him wherever he goes, asking him strange questions, and stealing his lunch.

And it all started when a watermelon was left on his doorstep.

I liked the worldbuilding so much! Rarely read such a cool werewolf fic. Steve doesn't appear in the first few chapters because we get to know Bucky first. I loved it so much, I read it so quickly. Definitely worth reading!

3. Empire by Isnt_it_pretty_to_think_so

Natasha and Steve go to couple’s therapy. There are a few complications. Their counseling clinic is a front for a Hydra cell that’s seized northern Manhattan. More importantly, they’re definitely not dating.

Also, Steve may or may not be in love with Natasha.

OR:

“I resent being compared to Peggy Carter,” Nat tells their therapist. “Yes, Steve— I assassinated a few people and committed every war crime in the book. That doesn’t make me a bad person.”

Steve knows this is all scripted, but he finds himself getting angry for no logical reason.

“I don’t think you’re a bad person.” His voice rises. “If I did, I wouldn’t be dating you. This isn’t about Peggy."

“It’s always about Peggy.” Nat flips her gaze to the therapist. “He says her name in bed sometimes."

Steve’s hands clench into fists. She’s going off script, damn it, and now he has to go off script, too.

“Nat cheated on me with Tony and Thor,” he improvises. “That’s what she was doing while I was checking my pal Bucky into a rehabilitation clinic. She's emotionally distant.”

“Once again, Mr. Rogers.” The therapist sounds tired. “Let's try our best to keep this constructive.”

I don't read Steve/Natasha that often, but this was such a great fanfic! I love therapy fics and I thought this was so great! Definitely read it, I highly recommend it.

I'm having trouble finding Hannigram fics, because the characters are misrepresented or simply because the show has already done such a good portrait of the two. I liked the fanfic. At the end Will is in Heat, so check out the tags. But I liked it for in between.

my thoughts on downpour

i like downpour but i do agree that some of its lore is weird. its in a weird state of canon yet not canon. its a canon AU

my solution: downpour is a story.

this is long as hell the rest is under the cut

vanilla slugcats feel like you are in charge, you are playing your own journey and experience. there is an ending, but you have to choose to go to it. everything is on you. even in hunter, your journey feels like your own, just with added challenge. downpour felt like i was playing a story. the scugs are characters that i dont have all the agency in; the plot has been written and im simply playing through it. i dont think this makes downpour bad, but it makes it fundamentally different from vanilla.

my take is that vanilla is what actually happened through the eyes of three slugcats. its their real journey through this world. they are incidental in a larger world, learning bits and pieces about the past, but never the main character. you are the slugcat, experiencing the world, making your journey.

downpour is the telling of stories about specific protagonists, perhaps oral traditions told by future slugcats. the campaigns of downpour have a plot, and you are not free to make your own choice in ending; you are led to it, as if this has already happened, and someone is recounting it. that is why the lore gets weird; these stories have been told and retold and changed, details have been lost and made up.

for me, this take would make the outlandishness of saint make sense; perhaps the real saint was a simple saintly traveler, whose story was told and exaggerated over time. maybe they became a fable, to explain the death of the computer gods. others, like rivulet, maybe really did happen, and we are reliving it like a play, acting out a story a mother tells her pups. maybe artificer became a warning about revenge and violence; gourmand a folk hero of a tribe who long ago led them to new lands.

(side note about spearmaster - i think their story is also what actually happened, but only through the eyes of the messenger. they dont have the whole story, just what they saw and did, and so not every detail is accurate. there is another thing to say here about rain world's themes of individual experiences. maybe spearmaster is recounting their own journey from their memories to SRS or another slugcat, who knows)

i like to think that this would make a place for survivor and monk's outer expanse endings make sense. they are another story, a tale of siblings who reunited, long after their original lives. it kinda leaves their journey open; did they choose to ascend or live to find each other? nobody really knows. the past has already happened and we'll never know the truth. i think thats a recurring theme of rain world; this story has already happened, this world is already dead, and you cant change it or ever know exactly what happened. you only have your own experiences and the words of others.

this is all just basically my justification for why in my own canon that im building my strategy with downpour is to just take the bits and pieces i like and leave the others behind, lmao. again, i like downpour! but i do agree that is is fundamentally different from the original game's intent. i preferred the ambiguity of the vanilla cats' endings. gourmand is still my favorite tho i love the chonk
