honestly haven't figured out a way to post my art that tumblr likes... trying to reblog this to get to more peeps
it's probably something to do with the two pics or something idk
DAY 01. BEE 🐝✨ I think I was deeply inspired by the swords that I had been seeing during September around social media, so when I saw the word "bee" my mind went "you know what would REALLY sting? A SWORD... maybe dagger??" and that's how this was born

Helen's Theme starts playing 🎶 💛 Candyman for a last second inktober post! I combined a prompt from #peachtober2023 by @furrylittlepeach and one from #emoviztober by @evalottchen .
I recently saw the original Candyman (1992) and loved it! It has such an unique atmosphere, a titular character that is both horrifying & tragic - and THE MUSIC!! Even if you don't like horrors, I highly recommend you give a listen to the score.
Also it's been a while since I drew in a more of a realistic style, it was very refreshing. I tried to keep the actor's likeness, but it was hard. Definitely didn't do Tony Todd justice!

22/09/24 - when she calls (woozi)
w.c. 992 (fluff :D)
BIPOC reccccccc: A few Instagram artists that I love: furrylittlepeach (Sha’an’s stuff is fun, colourful, and very whimsical. I love her vlogs on YT and they inspire me to create new stuff! She’s a joy.), Roxanne Atienza (Roxanne is a Filipina illustrator. Her stuff is amazing. I found her recently when I was learning about the terror bill in the Philippines.), Hanaan (Hanaan is a great illustrator. If you love(d) anime, his art style definitely emulates that with some retro, vibrant colours. His stuff gives me a nostalgic feeling and a whimsical feeling.)

Jihoon slowly gets up from his computer chair, not wanting to leave the studio, but knowing he should call it a night. He fiddles with something on the screen until he sees a reminder on his phone.
11:45 PM
SERIOUSLY. GO HOME.
Jihoon huffs and saves all his progress. When he steps out of the studio, he can hear music coming from the practice room. He knows with a comeback looming Jiwoo’s group is working hard to be ready. He knocks on the door and calls his goodbyes. The girls wave goodbye, Jiwoo coming to the door to talk to him.
“So how’s the second month being back going?”
They haven’t had any time to actually catch up since he’s returned.
Jihoon shrugs. “Not much has changed around here. It’s colder.”
Jiwoo takes a long swig from her water bottle. “How’s the girlfriend? She must be happy to have you home.”
Jihoon weighs all his possible responses at rapid-fire speed. Maybe it’s a girl thing that she’s able to read his pause in the conversation.
“Ah. Didn’t work out?”
Jihoon’s gaze drops to the floor for a moment. “I came back for a reason.”
Jiwoo’s eyes narrow. “So… you’re not together?”
“I don’t think so,” Jihoon admits.
“She hurt you left her?”
“Maybe that I left her alone too long,” Jihoon muses.
She nods her head thoughtfully, about to return to practice. “Well, she seemed good for you, oppa.”
Before he can respond to that, his phone starts to ring. Her name shows up on the screen and Jihoon can’t help but smile. “Hello?”
“Hey,” she grunts.
Jihoon heads back down the hallway to the elevator. “I was just thinking about you.”
“Would love to hear about it.” She takes a deep breath. “Any way you can come over?” Her voice sounds strained.
“Sure, something wrong?” He double checks that the door to the studio is locked as he passes.
“I need assistance and no one else is free to come help me.”
Jihoon is reminded of his conversation with the boys after the café set up.
“Well, she didn’t say no to getting back together,” Jeonghan had pointed out.
“She also didn’t mention anything about seeing each other again,” Jihoon sighed, slumping back into Seungcheol and Jeonghan’s couch.
Seungcheol had set drinks down in the center of the table for everyone to grab. “But she also didn’t tell you to leave as soon as the conversation was over. You said you gave her the opportunity to kick you out, right?”
“She’s too nice to do that. You guys know that.”
Mingyu picked up his hand and forced a shot glass into it. “Look, hyung, we’re on your guys’ side. Whatever you need us to do.”
Quickly, Jihoon sat up. “I don’t need you guys to do anything. I’ll figure it out.”
To which Seungkwan had replied with, “Well, we’re still going to help you out.”
And Jihoon wonders now if this is their way of helping him out. This isn’t the first time he’s conveniently been her last line of defence.
“Yeah, I’ll be over in a few.” He steps onto the elevator. “I’m just leaving work.”
“Perfect.”
When he arrives at the apartment, Jihoon gets a text telling him to just use his key to come upstairs. Jihoon’s brow furrows. While he keeps the key on him, he’s never used it since returning.
As he lets himself into the apartment, he calls out for her. The lights are all on and he can hear panting from the living room. Cautiously, Jihoon slips out of his slides, drops his bag by the door, and moves down the hallway. He isn’t sure what he’s going to find, but what he does find is the last thing on his list.
She’s got the TV propped on her thighs, her back against the bookshelf, and her phone in hand. “Oh thank god,” she breathes. “Help me move this stupid thing.”
Jihoon hurries forward and lifts the other end easily. She groans as she straightens her legs. “Holy shit.”
“What were you doing?”
They move the TV to the floor and she collapses next to it.
“Well, my projector came in.” She motions towards the box on the table. “So I figured I’d finally get rid of this TV. But it was heavier than I realized and when I finally got half of it down, it sort of just… got stuck on me and I couldn’t lift it without dropping it. All the boys are busy at 11:30 at night apparently.”
“Yeah, sleeping” Jihoon snorts.
She crawls to the coffee table and quickly slices the box open. “Are you cool helping me set it up? You’re good at this kind of thing.”
“Oh. Yeah. Sure.”
She looks back at him. “Unless you have to go home. I know it’s late.”
Jihoon shakes his head. He adjusts his hat, fixing his hair underneath it. “No, no. Sleep can wait.”
She pouts. “Jihoon.”
He chuckles and moves to squat next to her. “Seriously. I have time to do this.”
They wind up bickering as they set up the projector, arguing over which cables go where. They then argue over what to do with the television since it was a gift from his parents when they moved in together. She insisted he take it; Jihoon said it was a gift to both of them. When she suggested returning it to them, he told her that they would be offended.
“Let’s just… deal with it tomorrow,” she sighs. She falls back on the couch, catching the projector in her hand as it topples off the back of couch. They also couldn’t decide where the projector best sat to get the best projection.
Jihoon nods, leaning his head back against the couch.
Before she can ask him if he thinks Tangled looks okay on the wall, Jihoon has conked out.
She doesn’t have the heart to wake him to leave.

Lots of Love from Ben Marriott on Vimeo.
Over the past 8 months, I've been putting this animation together with 60 amazing animators (under the code name Project Manticore 2020.) Each artist produced a 36 frame animation on the theme of "Love." I was stunned by different interpretations, the quality of work & diversity of styles. I'm so proud to finally release this project and hopefully introduce you to some amazing artists. I hope it was worth the wait!

I was really supposed to be up an hour ago because heh
I have to walk to work today because road works
And I wanted time to paint as well as eat breakfast but just time to eat breakfast will have to do because I was so exhausted I conked out.
Like
My body feels achy and soft kind of exhausted, still struggling to wake up so I turned on a FurryLittlePeach vlog exhausted.
That said, I can paint and stuff once I get home and I’m super excited to be playing about with my painting style today.
My style is typically realism or close to realism, I aim for that but I’ve really enjoyed playing about with abstract art in therapy and I’ve always wanted to try out FurryLittlePeach’s style
I mean my style isn’t too far from cartoon but I’ve avoided doing it because I wanted to develop my foundation skills more but now I’m like. Oh yeah learning art isn’t linear and also if there’s something you want to make, you should make it.
And I think it’ll really help me build confidence and get to the harder skills I need to learn as well
So yeah I have some fun ideas, I did a thumbnail of one of them the other night and I think I like it, I think it’s way more interesting than a realism piece and you’ll see why and I’ll explain the style too
But yeah painting fun later Insha’Allah ^_^
Now…. For breakfast…

During the current COVID-19 outbreak, face masks have become increasingly hard to find in Australia, to the point that people are advocating for the ones available to be saved for healthcare workers. However, it’s been widely recognised that face masks are effective in reducing community spread of the virus. At a time when parents are looking to keep their kids entertained and off digital screens, socially-led creative agency, We Are Social Australia, has created Mask Class, an initiative to help adults and children make their own masks while educating them about the COVID-19 virus and how to reduce its transmission.
The project offers easy-to-follow instructions, illustrated by local artist and children’s book author Sha'an d'Anthes, aka @furrylittlepeach, in her signature playful and colourful style, so that kids can learn what to do to limit the spread of the virus, and have fun while doing it.

Final Assignment: Personal branding
My take and vision for this assignment
Upon receiving the assignment prompt, I quickly decided to do option 1.
I wanted my brand to be something that really embodied me as a person, in terms of my personality, interests, and design style. Since I want to promote myself as a freelance designer in this assignment, I thought it would be better to make my brand feel more personal instead of professional. This highlights one of the advantages of freelance designers, in which you tend to get to know and communicate with the designer more in-depth, as compared to a design company which feels more impersonal.
My inspiration and moodboard
Featured above are the works of Lily Van (@liliuhms) and Sha’an d’Anthes (@furrylittlepeach on Instagram and YouTube), illustrators that are based in Colorado and Australia respectively.
While this project does not require illustrations, I admire how the above two artists — who have been my long time inspirations — managed to build an image for their brand that is so unique and recognizable, and it is something I strive to do in my personal branding as well. I have also adopted a bold capitalized sans serif font for my typography, similar to the one used by Sha’an in her YouTube videos, as I like how it is easily readable and conveys the message, but is not too distracting from the other content.
Another one of my interests is Chinese culture. I think it has a very rich history and I love learning more about the different traditional customs. Furthermore, I think it relates to my identity as a Singaporean-Chinese, and teaches me more about my cultural roots.
I decided to incorporate the concept of seals into this project. Originating from China, these seals have been used to sign off official government documents, purportedly since the Shang dynasty. Since then, they have also been adopted by other Southeast Asian countries such as Japan, where it is still being used today. Knowing its history and purpose, I felt that they tied in perfectly with the concept of identity in my personal branding.
Logo Design
As you can see in the drafts, I also added a drawing of a bear in my seal. This was mainly because I felt that with text alone, the logo might not be memorable enough. I wanted to use something more visual and that is easily recognizable to the average person. Eventually, I decided on a bear, because many of my friends had said that I remind them of one, and I think it conveys a friendly image as well.
There were many versions for my initial sketches and drafts of the logo as I was still experimenting with various factors such as the color palette and shape.
These were also the designs presented to my peers during the group critique. From there, here were some of the feedback:
Do I want to include my surname in the logo? It seems to take away attention from my first name.
During my school days, I was often called by my surname alone since Rachel was quite a common name. Thus, I think my last name is an important part of my identity too, and would like to retain it in the logo.
The blue and pink color palette looks nice.
One of my main concerns about the color palette was that it was too contrasting. However, since my classmates provided feedback that it was okay, I went ahead with it.
From there, I made some adjustments to my logo, and here is the final version of it:
Additionally, I created some other graphics that can be used in conjunction with the logo, such as the squiggly lines and bear icons on the right. These squiggly lines were inspired by party streamers, and help to convey an upbeat and somewhat celebratory feeling to my designs. These assets can be used throughout my branding, to create a more cohesive image overall.
Business Card Design
Initial sketches for business card (top left) and the final design (bottom right)
In my initial sketch for my business card- I tried to keep it minimalistic with the colors and used some of the assets shown above. After designing and confirming the logo, I had become quite clear about the creative direction I wanted to take for the rest of my project, so I did not make many changes after the ideation and draft stage.
Resume Design
Initial sketch (left) and the final design (right)
In my first sketch of the resume layout, I identified the components I wanted and roughly where I wanted to place them. From there, I rendered a more accurate draft on InDesign.
Similarly, for the resume, I stuck to the color palette and tried to incorporate some of the design assets.
In my initial design presented to the class during the final consultation, my background was pink (similar to that in the sketch on the left). However, after more consideration, I decided to change the background to a lighter off-white color. This was because I felt that it may be a bit overwhelming to have such a large sized collateral (A4) in pink. While I mentioned that I wanted my brand to feel more personal than professional, a pink resume may be a bit too informal. Additionally, I shifted the elements around to better fit the page.
Forum Presentation
In Week 13, I presented my proposed branding guide to my classmates on the forum:
Here is the main gist of the comments left on my forum post, as well as my response to them:
The empty space at the bottom of the resume and top of the business card is quite glaring.
I rearranged the components and adding some text to populate the resume.
For the business card, the empty space above was actually a stylistic choice on my part, as I did not want it to be so cluttered that the recipient cannot focus on my contact details. However, since many have commented on this issue, I moved the content to the middle to make the card look more balanced overall.
2. The placement of elements is slightly confusing as most people would read left to right.
In my final design, I shortened the width of the left column, to make it more obvious that it was a ‘side column’ with my short personal details, while the right column featured more solid descriptions about myself and my experiences. While I understand that some people would read from left to right, I think with a clearer differentiation between the column widths, they would now know to read down the columns instead of across.
3. The header ‘LOGO VARIATIONS’ is the only one which has a drop shadow, which raises inconsistency issues.
The drop shadow was removed in my final branding guide, as suggested.
4. Take note of the orphans throughout and indicate what each typeface is used for. Also, I may want to consider rearranging the skills according to proficiency level.
Edits have been made according to the comments, and will be reflected in the final product.
Final Branding Guide
Here is my final branding guide!
Reflections
Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment as it pushed me to think more about who I am as a student and designer. I also managed to put into practice what I had learnt in tutorials and lectures, and it was very satisfying being able to see my work come together to form this finalized brand guide. Thank you for reading through this lengthy post and I hope you enjoyed it!
