Nifty Beaded Anklet
Or bracelet, or whatever. But I learned this pattern for anklets, and that's how I wear them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're relatively quick to make, pretty much infinitely customizable, the materials can make a lot for the quantities you buy them in (at least they were at my local craft store, ymmv), and they're just plain fun.
You Will Need:
Size 20 cord. My mom uses hemp cord, I prefer bamboo. The bamboo is a bit slipperier and a little thinner, so it might not be the best choice for a beginner, but I like the ease of movement.
Seed beads, size 6. These come in a wide variety of colors, so go nuts. The label will have the size on it- the ones I used had 6/0, though they also come in 8/0 and smaller sizes. 6 will fit on the size 20 cord.
Clipboard or another way to secure the top of your braid
Craft glue (only a small amount) and a scrap piece of paper
Scissors
Instructions:
Begin by picking your length of cord. I usually measure with one end held in my fingertips and cutting at the shoulder joint, though you may have a different length to suit your ankles or wherever you're wearing this. If in doubt, go a little long- you can trim ends, but it's very hard to make things longer. You want three cords of the same length.
Tie the cords together to make a knot. If you want to be fancy and use a button to secure it, then make a loop on the other side of your knot, otherwise just tie it securely.
Pour a tiny puddle of craft glue onto a scrap piece of paper. Dip the end of each cord in the glue and twist, going along with the way the cord is already twisted. You want 1/2 to a full inch covered, to aid in sliding the beads on. Let the ends dry (and get the glue off of your fingers).
Slide beads onto each cord. I use about 25 beads per strand- I've used 20 and 28 for other anklets, though my younger sister uses closer to 20 or even fewer for the size of her ankle. When each cord has the right number of beads, tie a knot in the end so your beads do not fall off. Keep the same number of beads per strand.
Braid the cord TIGHTLY for about two inches- or longer if you prefer- to give yourself a good foundation. The tightness is important- you want a snug, unmoving braid.
When you are ready to add the beads, slide up the bead and then cross the strand over. You will need to pinch the braid to keep it in place as you slide the next bead up so that things do not come unravelled, however, it is hardly the end of the world if they do. Once again, you will want to braid tightly, though this will be easier with the beads.
Once you run out of beads, continue braiding tightly till you either run out of cord or decide that your braid is long enough. Tie a knot in the end- including a button if you are being fancy- and cut your excess.
Tie the braid LOOSELY around your ankle- firstly, it will be less comfortable than you think it will be, secondly, it shrinks when it gets wet, so provide space for that.
When the anklet falls off, it is said that your wish will come true. Until then, enjoy!

So, I’ve been making a little Jason Todd travel handbag contents for Ethiopia
So far it’s got
His ID (Gotham City issued 😎)
A travel sized version of Pride and Prejudice
His library ID card
Student ID
Flight ticket
A polaroid of him, Bruce, Alfred and Dick
Print with Sheila Hayworth’s last known address, picture, and bio data (along with some of Jason’s scribbled notes)
Any ideas what else could be added to it? 🤔

so, fun iceland update! i am an introverted creature who adjusts poorly to new social environments, so it has been a quiet life here so far, but in a bid to fill the solitude i started learning to knit and now i need project ideas. recently i went to a reconstructed early medieval farmhouse and there was a gift shop there that sold yarn dyed with natural plant fibres, i think based on the methods & materials with which wool would have been dyed locally in the early medieval period? so i bought as much as i could afford and now i need ideas of (medieval-themed, perhaps?) things that i can use my funky yarn for. it's very, very scratchy so i don't think an item of clothing would be great, but i would love to use it to make some kind of memento of my year here

Embroidery of @herosplatling-replica's Intern wearing a sweater and surrounded by flowers (red rose, purple lilacs, and flax flowers) for artfight!
This took me 3 weeks (though I had a bit of a hiatus in between trying to make the design and the actual embroidery and another one day hiatus due to flooding, so I only actively worked on it for 11 days), 12 thread colors, and all of my sanity </3
Process under the cut and in progress pictures will be in a reblog :]
I started making different drafts of the design on July 13, though I already had plans for it earlier. I always liked embroidering flowers, and using chain stitches for sweaters was something that was in my mind for a while, so I got the idea of Inny in a sweater surrounded by flowers! I actually asked Jenn what an Inny sweater would look like + what flowers she associated with them trying to be Sneaky.
An old theme idea I had was 'gifts,' because I wanted the sweater to be similar to the one Inny receives from their future mom-in-law and for them to be holding two bouquets from their partners! Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to find a good pose with inny holding two bouquets so i had to settle on this </3
I didn't work on it for a while since I worked on another embroidery attack and I had to wait for the thread to be delivered, so I continued on July 23. I settled on a design, drew it inside a 5 by 5 in box because I didn't want the design to be too big, polished and lined the sketch, and drew it on the fabric using carbon paper and blue ballpen for details I missed.
July 25 onwards, I worked on it whenever I had the free time and energy to do so. I worked on it even when I was incredibly sleep deprived and had a headache </3 (don't do this it will make you mess up more AND more likely to make you hate embroidery when you work until 2 am). I shared progress pictures to my friends (shout out to wally and mochii for watching me go insane).
The stitches I used were: back stitch (outlines and the heart shape), chain stitch (for the sweater), woven rose stitch (roses obviously), lazy daisy stitch (purple lilac), and satin stitch (everything else). Most of the thread colors I ordered online, with some of it coming from my stash (fun fact i actually ordered a different color for the sweater, but i ended up not liking it cause it didnt contrast well with the colors of Inny's monitor. I found the light purple and pink from my stash and decided to use both, and im very happy with the end result.)
I finished it on August 1 at around 11 pm, where I was both happy that it was done and absolutely EXHAUSTED. I lost my sanity throughout the process. I needed to hype myself up so I could get it done
Tumblr media
I woke up at 7 am on August 2 to take better pictures of it with natural light cause my room lighting did NOT do the project justice. Glad to say it made it look even cuter
Ummmmm I don't know how to end this post, but as a bonus for anyone who reads to the end of this post have an alternate picture of this project <3
Tumblr media
That's all, and thank you for reading!

For something a little different than my usual virtual photography, here's my project for the Horizon Creation Celebration hosted by @horizon-events!
I'm really happy with how it turned out - and I'm excited to see everyone else's creations! More info below the cut ↓
I had this leather bag that I found at a thrift store, but it had somebody else's monogram on the front that I never liked. I always planned to do something about it - and I thought adding the medallion from Rost's armor would be the perfect project. The stitching of the medallion required the most work by far, but I also added a little Nora-inspired feather-and-bluegleam charm to the strap.
I didn't buy any supplies for this - everything was sourced from things I'd already collected (...hoarded?) in hopes of using them in a project someday.* The medallion uses reclaimed leather from an old purse, some blue cord I'd saved from... somewhere, and red cord of similar provenance. A stiff piece of plastic from packaging serves as interior support, and a strong magnet is currently holding it to the bag. I may attach it permanently, but I didn't want to yet in case I decided to use the medallion somewhere else!
All the feathers were found on the ground - there's an obvious jay feather (Steller's jay's in my neck of the woods), a white feather (most likely from a gull) that I colored with alcohol ink, and what I believe is a pelican feather - you can barely see it behind the purple one. The cords holding the feathers were all from my stash as well.
The "bluegleam" is a quartz point colored with glass paint. I'd had an idea for sculpting and casting the bluegleam cluster Aloy wears on her Frozen Wilds armors, but I wasn't able to get a finished product I was happy with. I'm not giving up on it, though - hopefully I can manage it someday!
*Which, honestly, is a miracle. I finally used stuff in a project! See, keeping interesting things is more than just adding to clutter!

I have finished the Wael piece! Turned out quite nicely I think. I also forgot before that I got some silver glitter yarn for prettying up the Eothas one so I did that too. I tried making a picture with a flashlight so the glitter would be nice and shiny but unfortunately my camera sucks. If I get a better picture at any point I'll post it.

Foto dump of a recent project!
I was on the look for a hexagonal present box for a birthday present (Because Hexagons are the best shape ofc), but I couldn’t find one.
So I decided to make one myself!
And I am lowkey really proud of how it turned out 🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used scrap cardboard I had lying around to cut out the parts, gummed paper tape to glue it all together (which was SO much fun I loved that part!) and then covered the inside and outside with normal craft paper.
This was honestly so therapeutic I love projects like this.
