The more I think about it the more Jayce reminds me of TOS Kirk. Head of the council, captain of the flagship. Willing to go to drastic (ridiculous) lengths to save his partner. Overall morally dubious but his heart's in the right place.

Viktor sorta fits the role of Spock better in the original lore, with the whole purging humanity through machinery (for Spock, Kolinahr). However, both are still the brilliant, socially outcast misfits in their environment who their other half couldn't function without. And both sort of end up with cults when left unsupervised.
