The Who's Who of Hipipo
("Open Image In New Tab" highly recommended!)
one of my favourite scenes in "Osomatsu-san: The Hipipo Tribe and the Glistening Fruit" was the climactic chase featuring cameos from many reoccuring and one-off characters (some of whom also appeared in the film's opening) from all three seasons of the anime - some well-known among fans of the franchise, others not so much.
in an attempt to fill in those "not so much" gaps, I proudly present a project I've been looking forward to posting for three months: a visual guide to the name and origin of every character who cameos in the climax and/or opening. see the list in text form under the cut!

I simply love how Maaya-san hitting Mamo-san~ It’s super rare to see her in cast talk or event and her voice is really soothing to hear (though I thought she would at least sing the “Kiss Kiss Fall In Love” part of the song).
Why they don’t make the second anime season or even make an anime movie something so this group of people can be gathered again in another fun and informative cast talk.

Injury’s Road (a Ballroom e Youkoso mini story)
»  if you post this anywhere else, please link back to this post!  «
I'm very happy to be able to present one of the mini-comics from the fanbook! This was one doozy of a learning experience, from figuring out scan settings to cleaning to wrapping my brain around translation, so hopefully everything makes sense and is as nice and clean as it can be xD (I did eventually give up on just a few re-draws cause they weren't really worth it, forgive me LOL)
(And on that note, do me a favor and go shower your favorite manga’s scanlation group in love and thanks, cause doing scanlation work is both time-consuming and super detail oriented, and they do it continually (monthly, weekly, whatever it is!) just for the sake of sharing, so they deserve all the appreciation!!)
Huge shoutouts and massive thanks to Rin and Daph for doubling up on my mediocre translation skills and therefore allowing me to finally finish this up, you guys are so amazing and generous and I owe you a ton~! 💖💖

Had the sudden thought that if Alice in Borderland were to have ever been made into a full length anime then I honestly couldn’t imagine anyone voicing Chishiya other than Yoshinori Fujita and Greg Ayres who both voiced Kaoru Hitachiin in Ouran High School Host Club.
Can y’all just imagine how sassy the VAs would be reading Chishiya???
Most of Chishiya’s lines end with 🎵 so most of the time he’s saying stuff in a sing-song way, and not so monotoned as Nijiro kind of worded his speech although his overall demeanor was very accurate.
His previous VA in the OVA, Takahiro Sakurai, did an AMAZING job as well.
Who else do y’all think would make good VAs if a full blown Alice in Borderland anime came to be?

Throwback Tuesday
February 16, 2021
Hello friendos, and welcome back to another Throwback Tuesday!
For this week, we’ll be diving into one of Capcom’s more lesser-known properties to date, their first attempt at creating their very first RPG! This is also notable as they teamed up with Square Soft to distribute and localize it for the North American releases as well as the European releases.
This was recommended by a mutual of mine! Thank you @daovihi !!
May I present
Breath of Fire (1993)
Tumblr media
Original Release:  SNES (April 3, 1993 [JPN], August 10, 1994 [USA])
Future Releases: Game Boy Advance (July 6, 2001 [JPN], December 1, 2001 [USA], December 14, 2001 [EU])
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Square Soft/Capcom
Designer(s): Yoshinori Takenaka, Yoshinori Kawano, Makoto Ikehara
Producer: Tokuro Fujiwara
Artist(s):  Keiji Inafune, Tatsuya Yoshikawa
Composer(s): Yasuaki Fujita, Mari Yamaguchi, Minae Fuji, Yoko Shimomura, Tatsuya Nishimura
Writer: Yoshinori Kawano
Inspiration
The game was first introduced as a concept by Yoshinori Kawano and Keiji Inafune, the latter of whom who gained fame thanks to his work on the Ghosts and Goblins series. Although Inafune had created most of the character and monsters, he was taken off the team for unknown reasons by his supervisor and was replaced by Tatsuya Yoshikawa, who kept all of the designs and was able to keep many of Inafune’s design features in newer illustrations. Inafune was still kept in the credits of the game. Following massive global success of JRPGs in the 1990s, even the art that was featured in the original Japanese versions ended up being used worldwide.
Story
You are a boy named Ryu, who is one of the last descendants of an ancient and power race known to have the shape-shifting ability to transform into dragons. You sister Sara is captured by the rival clan Dark Dragon Clan (you are part of the Light Dragon Clan). As you search the world for her, you stumble across a girl name Nina, a girl with wings and she alongside a cast of colorful characters from all corners of the world aid you in your quest to quell the Dark Dragon Clan and save your sister.
Gameplay
Breath of Fire (and its following sequels) utilized a traditional RPG playing style similar to much bigger franchises such as Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy especially. The camera is placed in a top-down perspective and the characters can move in four directions to anywhere on the map. Other mechanics include solving puzzles, interacting with the world around the player and taking on dangerous monsters for gold and experience. Many of the scenarios are story-based so they will have to be completed in order for the player to continue.
Reception
The game received mostly positive reviews from both fans and critics alike on both sides of the Pacific. Some of the games biggest praises were the sound, music, and graphics, with the music being of particular high praise. The exploration and non-linear aspect were lauded by Nintendo Power for the English version. The reception of the plot and the amount of battles in the game were mixed among critics. The GBA version was much more well-received, especially with the additions of various features such as save features and remastered graphics.
Legacy
Although it was received modestly, it seems fans couldn’t get enough as when the sequel Breath of Fire II was released, Nintendo Power called it a “rare second wind” as sales for the sequel soared. Breath of Fire is seen as an unconventional gem amongst the vast multitude of JRPG titles over the years and although the last game in the series was released in 2016 and is currently on hiatus, it is still seen as an interesting contribution by Capcom for wanting to share their version of what a JRPG should be.
Thoughts From the Head
I was very much unaware of this series even existing, or even that Capcom had even made a JRPG at one point until my mutual brought it up in a previous post. I’m very much for looking into lesser-known JRPGs so I will have to check and see if I can find a copy for my Super Famicom. I am a huge fan of its Japanese artwork so that at least has me hooked. In terms of rarity, you can find copies for it under $20 and you’re just as likely to find as much of the sequel for that price as well for both the Super Famicom and the SNES. The GBA version on the other hand is a little more expensive with prices starting at $15 and going up from there.
How much can I recommend it? From I have seen so far, although I have never played it, it definitely worth looking into if you favor JRPGs and want to try something different.
