Learning that self-love, self-worth, self-confidence is going to be a life long battle. Because everytime I think I’ve grown accustomed to my body, everytime I’ve learned to love what I see in the mirror, it changes. And that’s okay. I spent many years with no confidence because of other peoples and societys influence of being told being beautiful means being perfect and flawless. All that pain inside me i feared for many years i decided only recently to let go and no longer fear my identity of who i am because i taught myself that my beauty radiates from within. By believing in my self affirmations to help me i was and able to help others-you- believe you are beautiful just for being you. I know i can wear make up and i can, not wear makeup & still feel beautiful because i am CONFIDENT with my mind,body and soul- I love Me .We forget to "LOVE YOURSELF " I am guilty of that because for years i believed what others told me that i was "ugly","fat",monkey","darky","too dark to be indian","dirty"(because of th colour of my skin),"big lips " "dumb","monkey nose", "coconut","*aki",""battered" because of my dark circles around my eyes. With all this i felt the pressure of needing to use creams that industries sold as "this cream wll make you beautiful " "you will be lighter", then id have people around me say,"you need to use this cream to make your dark skin disappear! This image is really important to me because yesterday one of my cousins posted the complete opposite about himself. . The words broke my heart. Broken, so ugly, Angry, Lonely, Lost, hopeless, rejected, filled with rage, freak, desperate, frightened, Empty, suicidal. You can imagine. I’m half a world away. Mental wellness not just mental health is really important and it starts with support and is gained, when lost, through self love and worth. When became parlasyed for rest of my life, looking at myself in the mirror was not as easy as you may think. Something as simple as every day you wake up to,brush your teeth,wash your face,put creams on is to look at ourselves in the mirror with.I spent months without mirrors in beginning in my hosiptal phase because i couldnt face up to seeing my new life in a wheelchair. What i was going through was a process of coming to terms with what had happened to me.I was suffering with years of assualt and injuries i sustained on duty,all that came flooding back and my ptsd of everyday nightmares. Getting help from CBT and pyschotherpists helped me come to terms with the past,present,what happened& my reality. I then started using mirrors and saw that i didnt have the bruising, swelling, dislocated jaw,black& blue eyes,nose ,bloody lips that was my past affected by my ptsd. My brain was living in the assaults the fear of being injured again.All i could see was seeing the offenders every where and in my nightmares. The mirrors were my fears but not anymore. I started seeing myself in the present. I started seeing myself as a survivor& fighter,i started seeing myself as beautiful woman&mother,i started seeing myself as confident inspiring woman . Thank you @i_weigh @jameelajamilofficial giving me an chance to be part of another movement that includes me irrelevant of my appearance. It is really important to me to take every opportunity i can to use dfferent platforms to share who i am to fight for disability inclusion because to this day i am still not accepted and included in this abled bodied world as a human being.
