About your post regarding coming out in Thailand:

It might be the company telling them to keep their private life private to maintain the "appeal" but maybe they themselves don't like the idea of coming out. For example, the "glass closet" is extremely common in Mexico, and here celebrities don't really come out. There's even a saying from one of Mexico's most famous singers Juan Gabriel: "lo que se ve no se pregunta" which basically means "if you can see it, don't ask about it". Some thai actors might feel that way, too, especially the ones you mentioned.

And other actors who are in the closet-closet, not the glass closet, I guess I can understand that, too, taking into account how homophobic Bl fans can be, and also they would 100% get more sexualized and objectified if they came out or were more open (for example, I've seen SO MANY ppl say gun is a slut and makeup stories about his love life) so... It's all very complex idk lol. There are very valid reasons to stay in the closet.

I really love this analysis! And yes, that’s very much the sense I got as well. Like you said, there are all kinds of reasons an actor might choose to stay in the closet and all of them are valid. Coming out is not—and never will be—a necessary part of the queer experience. I'm more curious by just how stark the ratio is at GMMTV because most of the smaller production companies have out queer actors. It just seems crazy that the largest one in the country doesn't have any.

But along the lines of what you mentioned above, I do think there are a lot of queer actors at GMMTV who wear their identities very proudly despite still being "in the closet." They seem to be trying to tell people who they are through their actions instead of words. Like Khaotung in his "pleasure is for gay men" shirt or Gun sporting a green carnation. I've always just gotten the sense that that part of their identity is being stifled and I'm curious if it's a contractual obligation or just a personal preference.

My gut tells me that GMMTV probably discourages—but doesn't outright prohibit—coming out and the actors just have no incentive to do it because they've seen how horribly others in the industry have been treated. But I, of course, have no evidence to back that up.
