People living in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, or West Virginia, listen up!

These 17 states sued the United States government. They asked the court to get rid of Section 504, an important law that protects people with disabilities. The government just finished updating the rules in 2024. These states disagree with a few things in the updated Section 504 rules. But the lawsuit asks the court to get rid of all the updated rules – and to get rid of Section 504 itself, not just the rules they disagree with. The lawsuit says that Section 504 goes against the United States Constitution and that no one should have to follow any part of Section 504. If the 17 states win, this would be a disaster for people with disabilities.

If you live in one of the states that is part of the lawsuit, you can contact your state Attorney General and tell them to drop out of the case. If you live in a state that is not part of the lawsuit, you can still contact your Attorney General and tell them to protect Section 504.

The majority of the funding for the federal government comes from blue states. States that give more to the government than they get back in federal programs and aid are known as donor states and they are a lot of the reason that other states can receive the funding that they need. 8 out of the top 10 donor states are blue, with the top 4 all being blue. This also applies the other way, as 7 out of the bottom 10 or states that take more than they give are red, including very solidly red states like West Virginia. WV takes 3.09$ for ever 1.00$ that they give, while donor states such as Delaware, Massachusetts and New Jersey only get back between 0.34$-0.56$ for ever 1.00$ they give.

Because of how this system with donor and receiving states works, red states will be more effected by economic policies of trump.
