But the party doesn't have a way of knowing how well that's going to be able to be kept shut; in both the short term, because nobody else is there, and the long term, because who gets to guard it? More history revisionists? Fallible organizations? Can the barrier be strengthened? Will it regenerate? Will this lead to fearful people conducting genocide against the Ruidian peoples, and any future psychics, for fear of someone getting close again?

The urge to take a peek is understandably tempting.

I think the best bet would be to try to get the Ashari up there, since they handle the barriers to various raw elemental planes; they might be able to actually contain this one long-term. But can these dumbasses (the characters, not the players) successfully draw that conclusion? Can they guarantee Keyleth to be the first person that comes in there? Can they get a message to her from the moon since the bridge isn't causing interference anymore? Can they fend off anything else that might come while they wait for her? Can the Ashari make sure all the other panicky dumbasses on Exandria don't go about and fucking killing Reilorans and Ruidusborn?

I rewatched everything before s4, and I honestly forgot how awful t/s relationship was. Directly after s3, most people were in agreement that Tom was in the right for the betrayal, now everyone is revisionist about it. How he never lover her, and only ever used her. How he mistreated her for the past 3 seasons, while she was only ever thinking about him in her own way. And how HE is exactly like Logan(???). I love Tom, and he can be terrible, but I don't think he ever was towards her prior to the betrayal, he was to other people though. He wouldn't have even gone through with betraying her, if she showed she thought about him at all in her plans with her brothers. The only thing I think he was very much in the wrong for, was him trying to leverage a baby out of her before being send to prison. I hate the framing of their relationship this season, because she looks devastated and he looks careless and now he's the bad guy, even though it was the other way around for 3 whole seasons and nobody cared or made cucking jokes about it. I really feel for Shiv cause so much is going to shit rn, but that doesn't mean she gets a free pass. Same thing with how she grew up. I fr don't know what's going on with the Succ fandom this season cos people this time round seem to have zero nuance when viewing the show and have forgotten the past seasons. One second he's Logan 2.0, the next he's Sh*v's equal in marriage and they're THE otp of Succession and the perfect match, the next he's back to being an abusive piece of shit... It's funny, it's almost like their perception of him changes completely due to them being incapable of faulting Sh*v and they have to change his character to ensure she's in the right at all times), they wanna rewrite Tom's character (oh suddenly ALL he ever was, was a money grabbing manipulative asshole that never cared about anyone and wanted to use Shiv. Yep, nothing more to his character ever /sarcasm), and they wanna rewrite Greg (wow, another character that suddenly was only ever a piece of shit, and an annoying one at that... Despite the fact that Greg has been a fan favourite throughout the whole show alongside Tom... It's funny people tryna heckle Tom after that 4.8 Tomsh*v interaction and his lack of sympathy considering how little she gaf about him going to prison and actually told him off for coming to her for comfort). Tom who has had endless forgiveness and love for her throughout the whole show and was the kicked dog as a result, suddenly is just devoid to her now. I think it all caught up finally. Tom has been her support for years now and she trusts him to be the only one close to her when she's in a bad place. But now he doesn't even want to be (because when she's not in a bad place she doesn't care about him) and she hasn't really had her brothers as support (her own choice because of her guilt and distrust for them) since she started conspiring behind their backs, so who does she have for support?

I think it's all crashing down around her (her father - her god, the king - is dead and she's not coping with the grief at all, she has no alliance with her siblings to make something with them, she has no position at Waystar and ATN, she has no familial support cos her family is also her work, and now she has no husband who was also her work).

She has NO support network. And THIS is the tragedy: she put herself here. Not because she's so great and everyone screwed over poor Sh*vvy. No, the fucking heartaching tragedy is that she isolated herself, because as a result of her upbringing, she was taught to trust no one, not even her siblings. She was taught that personal life was nothing compared to business life, so she put all her eggs into that basket, and now all those eggs are broken and she has no support network to go to now that she's so fucked up. So that's the tragedy for Shiv to me. She's reaping what she's sowed. She didn't question Logan's values and instead adopted them and this is where they've gotten them. It's rough cos I've been in the same place in life where I've isolated myself and have ended up with no support network outside of my family, so when that too went fuckup, there was no one, and it feels like the world is crushing you. So it's the same with Shiv. She has no one now, and that's fucking sad, but there's no free pass here, cos this is the bed she made and now she's gotta lay in it. The only thing she can do is realise that when you isolate yourself like this and shame your own emotions, this is where you end up. Alone and choking on everything you pushed down without understanding of how to cope and no help from anyone. Some thoughts on Jod, Ulysses,  Titania, and the origins of the OG lyctor gang

I am SO intrigued by Ulysses and Titania because WHO ARE THEY?

So John starts talking about his bodies and I immediately was like wait Ulysses? Titania? (cue me checking the HtN cast list again, lol) We know them. But we don’t. And neither did John. He made them up! They were already dead when he brought them back, he never knew them alive; they were research cadavers. I don’t think that he could have found their original souls because there’s this talk of the thanergy bloom at the moment of death and ‘the nun’ showing John that its at least in part caused by the exit of the soul, I always took it as like a blink and you miss it sort of thing so I don’t know that John can like just pluck bodiless souls out of the air? (the river? I also have lots of questions about the river bc I’m not totally sure I fully understand it. Did John create it? Was it already there and he just gained access when he got his powers?) So, already he’s got these empty shells that he saves (recreates?) and WHO DOES HE PUT IN THEM? Did he create new ones? We don’t know the details of the resurrection, really, so who’s to say he didn’t just pluck some good bits from the freshly pureed blend of souls that is him and Alecto and plopped them into some new bodies?

We would assume that he puts all his pals back into their own/newly resurrected bodies but this leads me to my next question: Did he really?

It's already been stated that John didn’t feel right using U—and T—real names and thus renamed them as Ulysses and Titania. Where did those souls come from? We don’t know, but I’m so curious as to the naming conventions in the John chapters and I think that maybe he changed everyone. Maybe M—and A—and C—and G—and P —, all had different names. 

John nukes everyone and gathers his most favorite souls and brings them back for later but changes them. I feel like he had to because what do they remember? If my friend with magic necro powers who was going off the rails and NUKED THE PLANET brought me back and was like “hey bestie” I’d lose my shit. I’d be pissed and I’d never let him hear the end of it. and we already know that John is a lying liar who lies and he’s heard enough about the fucking cows and what if he’s like actually I don’t want to hear that from my friends so he does a little revisionist history when he brings them back. Gives them a new name (does he let them choose?) and gives them an alternate version of events that still places him in the right in such a way that they are willing to FOLLOW HIM FOR TEN THOUSAND YEARS.

He introduces them to Alecto and makes her out to be a monster when she’s really just another victim. They trust what he’s saying because they don’t know that John has calculated all of this – THEY STILL THINK HE MADE A MISTAKE WHEN HE KILLED ALL THOSE PEOPLE. They don’t know that he got a shot of cocaine straight to the eyeballs when he murdered all those people and there’s no way they know that he nuked a whole planet for a sweet, sweet, white hot burst of soul juice.

John wants total control. What better way than surrounding yourself with people who only know what you tell them? (and locking away the only one who knows the truth?) 

tldr; I want to know what souls powered Ulysses and Titania and I think John retconned his closest friends so he could better mold them to his liking in order to control them for the rest of forever.

Because let's be real, at no point does Duna go like oh, this man is clearly suffering from an inferiority complex from having all the women in life ridicule him for his alleged erectile dysfunction, the men bullying him because of his humble (read: poor) background and not so highly paying occupation as an adjunct, the nepotism he faces at work (let's be real, what fucking Dean in real life demands a published, popular "book" in exchange of a professorial tenure while saying "just like Duna did" even though that woman wasn't even stable enough to finish her major, while ALSO licking the boots of Cha Wookyung, the biggest daddy's tittie weaning, silver spoon bastard next to someone who actually worked hard on their degree, struggled to pay their tuition to the top and is still grinding no matter what WHILE ALSO giving an easy tenureship to foreign graduates because idk, their shit tastes sweeter? Let's take Haesol, the male love interest who is supposed to be our "not like other men", who is skinny and young but is still essentially portrayed as someone who is comfortable in their sexuality because obviously no one sees his body and goes "oh you're definitely an alpha male" like they do with Minho, he also essentially has a large penis (not my words, author's), is better because he can sexually satisfy Duna? and ALSO bullies Byun Minho based on his income and sexual capacities, eventually going on to rape him along with Duna because ig being an ideal man means being a simp, having no spine or sense of right or wrong independent of your partner's whims.

Cha Wookyung is already a masterclass in patriarchal supremacy, a man fed off not by own talents but by his rich father's resources, withering his life away on deriving sad, sexual pleasure from raping, breaking and brutalising men (even though he's bisexual lol. Great bi representation right there). Let's also not forget that Duna is written AS A MAN. Essentially, a womanchild who drinks, swears, smokes, works, doesn't face any repercussions to her actions, cannot cook or clean and hence is entitled to come home to any variant of a malewife who she can rape, force to enact her twisted (non-consensual) fantasies and expect to clean and cook for her all because she makes some bucks outside the house and also she'll die if no one is constantly taking care of her, because self dependent women can't be strong feminist women icons I'm guessing. i finished two books over the past four days........ master of one by jaida jones & dani bennett and reverie by ryan la sala

master of one

this one... was kind of disappointing at the end lmao.

master of one had a lot of build-up to a climax that seemed... pretty lackluster. it reads pretty heavily like a book leading into a sequel, so i hope the next installment drops soon because i was left deeply unsatisfied by the ending lol. also i wish shining talon and the rest of the fae characters were more interesting... they all seemed so flat!!! they barely had any screentime and no POV chapters; everything about them was filtered through the perspective of others which i feel was a damn shame.

shining talon was there from the beginning and by the end of the book i feel like he was the same person, almost no growth happened. i mean i guess he and rags had a romantic thread for the whole thing which felt a bit rushed in my opinion but maybe that's what fae are just like so eh....

also the fact that rags was sixteen had me. squinting. couldn't get invested in it because of how weirded out i was by the concept of a centuries old fae prince and a teenager 💀

especially since rags was SO mean to shining talon for the whole book. most of that had to do with his inferiority complex but still. get it together, rags.

on the plus side i loved the worldbuilding SO much. love that revisionist history theme that keeps getting callbacks. the fae turning out to be less cruel and more complex, victims of a war they tried to survive and brutally lost. the queen's mysterious plans and strangely lengthened lifespan vs. her lack of a real matriarchal heir and how that resentment breeds in her sons. the rebellion and all the characters in it!!! rags's backstory with dane as well. sad as hell 😭😭 the strange creatures that bond immediately with their chosen masters, how they become two halves of a complete whole. the mirrorcraft!!! how does it work!!! how do the sorcerers channel their magic, how does the red cloth work, and why the fuck was morien SKINLESS. LIKE WHAT.....

anyways final score: 6/10 and mostly because the story is unfinished and the final climactic scene with morien was super underwhelming. maybe book 2 will raise the score for me in hindsight but until it comes out (if it comes out) i can't say.

oh my god kane (main character) irritated me so much the whole fucking book. i understand that he's been through a traumatic experience and know that he's dealing with the consequences of actions he doesn't even remember doing due to his amnesia is making him lash out but MAN....... understanding it and tolerating it are two very different things

like i sympathize with his situation i really do: it's shitty, nobody seems to be able to help him, and the people who seem to know more about it are constantly trying to gaslight him into believing that nothing's wrong. but he was so fucking RUDE to his sister who was the only one in his corner the whole way through until she, too, fucking snapped from all the disrespect he was slinging her way.

not to mention the fact that he had the rules of the dreamworlds/reveries explained to him multiple times and he STILL IGNORED THEM. KNOWING THAT DOING SO PUTS PEOPLE'S LIVES IN JEOPARDY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

and it's not a "oh kane forgot" NO THIS BITCH WILLFULLY PUT THE LIVES OF OTHERS IN DANGER. and for what!!!! to do selfish shit??? that had absolutely no basis in logic??? he'd do something dumb, realize it was dumb, and then double-down. everything he did in the book actively hindered or harmed everyone else AND himself too! i hated him! the whole! fucking! book!!!

he lost his fucking mind over his sister like my guy can you just pump the brakes. pump the FUCKING brakes. stop ruining everyone's lives because you don't want and don't know how to fix things properly!!!!! GOD........ EVERYTHING YOU TRIED TO DO IN ORDER TO FIX THINGS MADE THINGS WORSE. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!!!!

the others (the name of his friend group) didn't deserve all the shit he put them through, especially after it was revealed that his amnesia was SELF-INFLICTED. he straight up ASKED to have his memories removed!!! and the others were just keeping away from him because they didn't want him dragged back into their world without the knowledge necessary to survive it. and even after he was told this he was mean as hell!! which okay, i would ALSO be pissed about being kept in the dark like that but his friends were like. they constantly tried to help him and for what. to be disrespected at every turn? blown off and ignored? given the cold, spiteful shoulder??? LEAVE HIS ASS!!! IF HE WANTS TO BE ALONE THEN LET HIM BE ALONEEEEEEE AARRRRGGHGHGHGUIHG

he pulled his head out of his ass for the last 5 or 6 chapters of the book but my god he pissed me off so much. fuck that guy. dean, sophia, and the others deserve better.

final score: also a 6/10 but only because the supporting cast was so good. the main antagonist poesy was also extremely iconic with the looks and the dark confidence. literally gaslit gatekept and girlbossed through the whole book.

edit: also it should be noted that even though some of the characters annoyed me, i still finished master of one in two days and i finished reverie in one. they were engaging enough for me to keep reading...... yeah :3
