New CD tower is definitely needed now.... ideally the same or similar to that tall one I've got, and one like that black one on top (or a bigger and better one to replace that black one, as it's starting to fall apart). Think I can fit maybe one or two CDs on the big one, and I still have one more CD stuck in transit, then there's also another that I'm looking at getting.
I also think this is the first time in I think, ten years since I had made that bigger CD shelf in woodwork at school that it's been completely filled up. And I'm thinking I definitely should've made it a bit bigger. Definitely should've made the shelves in it slightly taller, as the first two are the perfect size for jewel cases, which is the measurements I had in mind when I made it, but some stupid fucking digipacks won't fit on either of the first two. They fit on the bottom one, though, as somehow that one ended up being slightly taller. But I really would've liked to put Louis Tomlinson's Live album with his other two on the top shelf. If only every CD was released in jewel cases, not stupid fucking digipacks. Or at least make digipacks the exact same size as jewel cases.
Anyway, close up of each shelf. Dunno if you can read each spines, some have faded spines due to how long I've had them or I've gotten them secondhand like that.
Anyway, fuck streaming.
Buy physical media.

The whole debacle over whether one should stream OG versions of Taylor Swift's music (aka those bought by Scooter Braun) really highlights how stupid streaming is.
(Disclaimer: I don't necessarily consider myself a Swiftie, but I've been a listener for well over 10 years. Much of my teen years and early adulthood were spent listening to the OG versions.)
One of the main concerns with streaming OG versions is that there would be new money going to what is considered the illegitimate owner of Taylor's music. I agree with that. When the artist has made clear that those copies were stolen, it would be wrong for anyone to profit off stolen property.
But, I think for listeners, there is value in listening to the OGs. Jon Batiste has a clip here where he eloquently lays out the musical and stylistic differences between the rerecordings and the OGs. Purely from an analytical standpoint, comparing the two versions can be a great exercise in understanding how different styles lend different messages to the same melody and lyrics. Even for sentimental and nostalgic purposes, listening to Taylor sing about high school heartbreak as a young adult vs as someone in her 30s is going to hit different.
And here is why streaming sucks. If at any point the ownership of the media comes into dispute, or you no longer want to give money (or clicks) to the media owner for whatever reason, you cannot engage with that piece of media anymore. Which is insane because, as I said, people should be allowed to engage with any media for any reason.
(And this leads to a side-problem, that is a lot of younger fans whose only source of media comes from streaming claiming that you must never engage with the OGs. Thing is, honey...I don't think I'm illegitimately benefitting anyone by listening to my Limewire'd copy of Fifteen from the 00s, so...)
So this is why kids really need to learn how to pirate stuff. Or purchase media one-off, ideally physically, whenever possible. With streaming you need to put up with ads and burn up your phone data plan, or pay monthly and never actually get to own a copy of the work, and you get trapped in this weird conundrum whenever there are ownership issues. Why do it?

tbh having ryonai bring blam honey back with kiwamu's help in the early 2010's was unexepected but its one of the only reason we got hd version of some songs.
or some songs at all... do you know how difficult it was to find ANY blam honey in the early 2000 ? i had scoured the internet and all i could find was like 3 songs.
Thing is if you had a bit of money, the albums/singles/tapes were regularly-ish available on japanese auction sites, but i didnt have money and, idk about now but, japanese fans were not prone to share mp3s, at the time. so you had to cross your fingers that either someone french or argentinian had uploaded it. (or actually you had to ask the frenchs cause they were dicks about how "hard this was to find and whats in it for me" and the argentinians probably had a blog and was happy to share everything as long as you gave them credit)
im glad that blam honey songs are easier to find, now. thats true for many other bands too. there was a thrill to find rare stuff at the time, sure. but its a better thing that its all more accessible, now, i think. are there still people hogging access to some old demo tapes cause they "had to work for it" ? Sure. but i find they are far less common than 12-15 years ago.
there is no point in hoarding weird japanese music from the 90's without sharing it anymore. i glad people seemed to finally understand that theres no point in being the only person listening to a song. songs are meant to be shared !
#and by accessible i do not mean streaming#fuck streaming#also evil en lucifer is back lol#blam honey#also 'unrelated' to bh being signed under kiwamu's label but some suppurate system songs ressurfaced when bh came back#oldschool visual kei#visual kei#vk#vkei#oldschool vk#darkest labyrith#starwaves record#kiwamu#ryonai#tatsuya#a visual kei post

This is why I have shelves full of Blu-rays, and a home server full of ripped MKVs. Good luck taking those away from me, Paramount.
(and yes it is 2 deep, no I can not find anything I’m looking for thats why it’s ripped onto my home server)
If they don't sell something on physical media, I assume they don't want my money so I just pirate it. But if they do sell it on physical media, I encourage them to continue making physical media by buying it.
When I found out Paramount+ was removing Star Trek: Prodigy I bought all 20 episodes of S1 from Amazon Video since that was the only way for me to watch all 20 at the time. On 6/27, I lost access to episodes 10-20. Amazon has done what they can, which isn't much.
All 20 were accessible when I paid for all 20. The full season is what I was buying. Now, I only have access to 9 of the episodes.
What is the point of buying digital content if they're just going to steal it back from you afterwards?! Is this not false advertisement?
Seems appropriate
#data hoarding#physical media#blu ray#fuck amazon#fuck drm#fuck streaming#i really really really need to organize these shelves it's kinda awful#q

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.
