Keep havin’ weird dreams. Can’t explain them very well, all I know is I keep scaring the hell outta a few of the guys when I jolt up. Davis suggested I see the Chaplain ‘bout it. Pretty sure it’s not demons, so unless he’s got holy-water-melatonin, I don’t think he can help.

One of the dreams is about Danny and Nicki arguin’ over their old man’s body. Cancer or poisoning or something of the like. Not sure why I’m there at all, I just am. Both keep beggin’ me for an answer. I can’t. Someone’s cut out my tongue and noises don’t help. He’s dead, they’re arguing, I can’t do anythin’.

Father said something offhandedly in a letter about my nightmares being chronic. Happened when I was a kid, stopped for whatever reason, an’ now they’re back. Never told him I was having any, but that’s Father for you. He jus’ knows things. Didn’t tell Sammy or Ellis though, both seem to think I’m fine. Not sayin’ I’m not. Just don’t think it’s worth tellin’ them, worryin’ them over stupid shit like dreams. Got bigger issues than that.

I think the thing that's so frustrating to me is that the global non reformist, non liberal, leftist movements post 1991 have done neither dick or shit to american empire. China has become its inseperable partner, feeding its consumerism and stripping the earth barren for one peanut harvest in Africa. the Russian Federation suicides itself in fascist blood and soil wars across former imperial russian territory. People can debate what is and isn't justified in history til they're all dead, but the ends justify the means once you've won and wrote the history. This is of course by design, the Mossad put thumbs on scales for Hamas in conflicts between other PLO groups early in their existence as islamist aligned groups are infinitely less sympathetic to foreign supporters than any other alternative. Both my parents had a steady job, so that meant they had to pay the full tuition of me being a university student. That meant the €365 a year + books, which was about €50 something for a year (I gotta admit, this depended on what course you took. I heard of people paying a hundred for books). 

I had a job, but only during the holidays and that was part time. I needed time to study. Like all of us do.

If either of my parents did not have a job, I would’ve gotten a partial reimbursement. If I were in a big family of three kids or more, I would’ve gotten a partial reimbursement. Certain students got a full reimbursement when needed. This is what socialism is.

Or better put, this is what it was. Far right has been getting way more votes in Belgium, as in all of Europe. The costs of Uni now have more than tripled!!! All because some stupid fuck ass people decided that voting for the NVA (the right wing party in Flanders) was a good idea. Fuck you all and fuck you for ruining the future of all young people.

And like, what if a kid doesn’t get it? I was a sheltered little prude that just didn’t understand Their Eyes Were Watching God. A lot of my classmates didn’t, whatever. Re-read it later and I loved it. Reading ‘too young’ didn’t damage me, it just wasn’t something I understood. That happens. But it isn’t just about books being ‘relatable’ - I loved books about the Vietnam War written by ex NVA soldiers and books about the Holocaust and Stalingrad by Russian speaking Ukrainian Jews. Fuck the two most beloved authors by a lot of teenagers are probably Jane Austen and Shakespeare, because they wrote things that are fun but have a lot of depth.

Anyway though, the world is a chaos of viewpoints and experiences and learning to encounter one’s you don’t understand is at least as important as learning to understand them - because you won’t understand them all, at least not at first.

There is genuinely no such thing as an inappropriate book for a child.
