Chapter 1.

Thoughts on JJK chapter 249 (Spoilers)

We start with a flashback to how Yuta's suprise attack against Kenjaku truly ended

Sth that Toji had already foreseen happens when the manipulated curses of Geto's CT come out in droves when Kenjaku loses control

I'm sceptical of that explanation though. It looks more like Kenjaku intentionally released all cursed spirits to create a distraction. We see that in the fact that Kenjaku still controls the curses afterwards.

This distraction is mainly used to add a new rule to the CG. There is also the possibility that Kenjaku had the time to do sth else while Yuta's focus was somewhere else. For now, it looks like Kenjaku has died though.

(I'm really expecting some Takaba/Kenjaku friendship fics, also "this millennia" is only 18 years.)

Visually and otherwise interesting here, is that Tengen was turned into an embryo while in a womb-like construct inside Kenjaku's "body". Tengen is a 1500 year-old once-woman who had turned her body's aging back twice. Now she had been turned against her will into a pre-birth creature, who was than swallowed by a 1000 year-old man.

Even if it turns out that Kenjaku had been a man in his original body, he's still the most female cis man in shonen outside of One Piece characters. Also, it's Megumi who's caught between all these fossils and their procreation shenanigans. Let's if some of that stays with him.

Yuta has some second thoughts about their plan and how they split up. At the end he plainly states that he mainly wanted to kill Kenjaku himself but the current fight is what it is, and he has to deal with that.

In close combat, Yuta can hold his own and even lands a hit on Bellymouth. Sukuna's CE energy output recovers though and so does the danger of his DE. That's when Yuta activates his own, sth he couldn't do while fighting his three-way battle.

True Love reminds me of Hifune (Soul Eater) and his way of fighting with dozens of swords thrown around. Sukuna's DE is stronger so Yuta has an additional and unknown time limit on his hands.

Sukuna knows Hollow Wicker Basket, the anti-domain technique we saw Reggy use. For him it actually has a purpose because unlike Megumi's DE, Yuta's has a sure-hit. Sukuna has four hands though.

Yuta's DE works like this apparently: his copied CT are represented in the form of swords. He can activate the CT once to attack his opponent, afterwards the sword disintegrates. I don't remember Thin Ice Breaker from another sorcerer though.

3 questions:

Does the cursed technique through the sword attack have to be completely in the form of the original CT? Or can Yuta change it enough to make e.g. CE blast attacks?

Will the copied CT get erased from Yuta's memory once the sword disintegrates?

Are the copied CTs split into their different applications? Like one sword for Blue and one sword for Red?

For the second time in a row in the last two chapters, Megumi gets name-dropped again. Add Yuji into the Domain with his punches having the effect of separating soul and body and it looks like a Megumi moment is on the horizon. What that will look like is anyone's guess though.

Yuji is not to be fucked with. What Sukuna says on the other hand, makes me think that Yuji still puts his life into roles that others give him. His cog mentality is still present.

Every once in a while I think about Shiki. I was lowkey obsessed with it as a teen.

First of all there were so many CUNTY characters. Megumi, Sunako, Chizuru. I was obsessed with their style (especially Megumi's, though Sunako is who I like the most as a character). And some of the male ones ate too like Tatsumi and Seishirou. Even Muroi in a way.

The artstyle is fucking insane with all the bizarre hairstyles, the shikis' eyes, most of the characters have very distinctive features.

And the Natsuno x Tohru ship. Upon rewatch it is not subtle AT ALL. They kinda just straight up show us Natsuno falling in love with him at the beginning of one of the episodes. Plus he gets jealous when Tohru talks about the nurse, and then Megumi asks him "Why do you like him more than me?"!!!

Unfortunately I just hate how it fucking ends. You can't give me a show about vampires and expect me to not root for the vampires, sorry. I think it would've been cool if at least most of the humans died in the fire or something. I don't know, the shikis just being exterminated and that's it (ik it's implied Sunako survived, but still) just felt a bit anti-climatic and didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. I also hate how they made Megumi's death more brutal and humiliating than in the manga and novel for some reason.

Gojo's Racism, and Greater Jujutsu Society at Large

Put it to bed, that shit was indeed racist. No mincing words, no covering, nothing. Gojo's statement about Miguel was bred from ignorance and nothing more. And to be honest, I'm okay with that.

Been a lot of discourse about whether or not Gojo himself is a racist over the discussion he had with Miguel over both his physiology and his cursed technique. Specifically, Gojo and Miguel are having a discussion, and Miguel expresses surprise at Gojo being able to just know his CT. Gojo says he can tell just by looking, but that the real frightening thing about Miguel is his build. He then begins to talk about African sorcerers.

"99% of all sorcerers are Japanese. Add a cursed energy buff to these guys' physiques and muscle mass, which are crazy rare in Japan, and the result is pretty amazing."

Miguel sees the pretty over, if incidental, racism sown through the statement, being very quick to point out that him being African is not what makes him special, but being himself. Gojo quickly apologizes.

But the point still stands. Gojo makes a broad blanket statement about an entire racial demographic of people, and uses it to attempt to explain one of those people's greatness. This is undercutting the work Miguel as an individual, not just as a black man, and not just as a sorcerer, has had to put in to get where he now is. And this is especially cutting coming from Gojo, who is clearly established as, at least in motive, one of the more progressive members of the modern Jujutsu society.

But are we actually crying foul over whether or not Gege's anti-Gojo propaganda is at work here? To me, this seems like a pretty clear take on how racism permeates. Gojo is not racist, in that he does not look down upon any races. But he is perpetuating a clearly prejudiced idea, born from a long history of eugenicist, biological-determinism-rooted thinking. And is this really a surprise?

Gojo wants massive, fundamental reform for the world of Jujutsu. He has gone out of his way on several occasions to intervene in the going-ons of the fucked up system he takes part in. Yuta and Yuji's executions, Megumi's sale, and has on more than one occasion threatened to simply massacre the elders of the different clans and the various schools if he thought that it would be the easiest way for him to fix the problems he sees in that system.

But at the same time, Gojo is also quite literally the living result of the Jujutsu world's most powerful clan engaging in a centuries-long eugenics project themselves. He was not sent to real schools to gain an actual education, instead raised by the very people who selectively bred for dozens of generations to engineer the genetically perfect offspring, amongst other, equally stringent clans, all of whom engage in the exact same behavior. And all of this is all the more true when you remember that apparently, 80% of Jujutsu is already hard-coded into the body at one's very birth, neurologically and physiologically hard-wired from one's very conception. and Gojo, since his birth was told that he was the best among the best in a world literally bred for this kind of competition.

All of this, of course, happening in the country of Japan, very well known for its incredibly conservative, xenophobic views on race and outsiders in general. This entire thing just kind of reads as that guy you know who's pretty progressive but both of his parents are conservative so every once and a while he says something that's not reminds you his parents own a confederate shot glass you saw in the back of their cupboard.

These kinds of ideas are pervasive and seeping. They work their way into the bases of ideology, warping the very way one views the world and how they express that. Gojo is the literal poster child for everything wrong with the Jujutsu world, and actively fights against what it stands for. And yet, it is still the world that dictated how he grew up, how he was educated, how every part of him was developed until he developed the ability to do these things on his own. And even then, the developments that really cemented his disillusionment with the Jujutsu society were never anything that challenged his beliefs in the weird parasitic eugenics projects they engaged in, but the system itself. Doing the mental work to completely strip every part of that system, which you still actively engage in every day as a mentor figure, is not easy, and not something Gojo seemingly engaged in.

So TLDR, Gojo is not a "bigot". But his worldview is tainted by the very world which victimized him, and his perspective is warped by those who literally shaped the lenses through which he sees. No clarity from the Six Eyes is enough to ease the difficulty of introspection, I guess.

No, Gege is not engaging in character assassination. He's just playing into the world. And I appreciate that.

A general timeline of the events of sea flags gardens:

December 21st: Geto declares war.

December 22nd: Megumi is taken.

December 22nd-24th: megumi is in the disciplinary pit, only tsumiki knows he’s missing.

December 24th-25th: Yuuta defeats Geto, passes out after Rika moves on, and wakes up to discover the higher ups are already making a move on him

The night of December 25th: The Zenin force Megumi to summon the great serpent, he takes the bite.

December 26th: Yuuta meets Nanami, his new not-dad.

December 27th: Yuuta’s meeting with the higher ups. Nanami is suspended.

Very late on the 27th: Tsumiki discovers Megumi unconscious and delirious on the kitchen floor, steals a car, and brings him to the school. Yuuta unlocks reversed curse technique and maintains it throughout the night.

6amish on the 28th: Gojo and Shoko arrive at jujutsu high

(this won’t be in the fic, but basically it took Maki ages to get into touch with gojo because of how busy he was, and when he rushed to get Shoko, she was in the middle of surgery and had literally no one to replace her. By then, Yuuta had unlocked RCT, so they had a very tense night with Nanami monitoring Yuuta to make sure that he was able to keep Megumi stable while Shoko tried to not kill the guy on the table in front of her, biting their nails about whether Megumi would last until they got there. Straight up, Gojo had teleported back and forth multiple times in the night to check on Megumi, but Yuuta was so focused in maintaining RCT that he didn’t notice him. Gojo went out of his way to make sure Yuuta wouldn’t notice him, because he didn’t want to distract him and risk him losing his grip on the RCT before Shoko could take over. He was waiting just outside of the infirmary more than once in the night to make sure Megumi was still breathing. All of the adults are sort of hauntingly aware that if Yuuta hadn’t figured out RCT, Megumi would have died before Maki could even get in touch with gojo and they’d all be burying him right now. None of them have come off the panic of that yet.)

1pmish: Megumi wakes up.

It’s been less than 12 hours since gojo and Shoko fucked off, and yagas too busy trying to find replacements for their workloads to have to decide whether he’d turn a blind eye.

Gojo was legitimately covering more than the rest of the workforce combined, and that load dropping down on you when you’re busier than ever really shows. Shoko’s less obvious, because she can’t work as long as gojo can, so there’s a decent few people that still think she’s probably just sleeping or something. But when you have a society that just got off a war and literally one healer, then people notice when she leaves and doesn’t answer her phone. Yaga knows that gojo and Shoko are gone, but he doesn’t know why. Gojo hasn’t read him in on anything to do with Megumi since they had to go no contact with the Zenin. He thinks Nanami’s not around because he’s suspended, but he doesn’t know what the hell happened to make gojo and Shoko go awol, and he just hasn’t had the time to find that out.

Ijichi’s the only other one who gojo told about what happened. He’s also gone awol, but he’s been in and out of campus trying to get information on what happened and running necessary errands while everyone else has been tied up with megumi. He did get to visit Megumi while Yuuta was asleep, but Megumi was too out of it for anything to be said.

recently saw a tiktok about toji n megumi…and good god. ppl in the comment section were willing to die in the trenches to convince others that toji had at no point sold megumi (which is so easily fact-checked it hurts) and that he was a great father. girl, we did not read or watch the same series. and mind you, this is not coming from anti-toji angle at all.

i don't understand glazing over the turmoil present in the text. it's what makes their father-son relationship so interesting and compelling. the tragedy of it all! how grief and trauma molded their relationship - or actually, lack thereof. and yet, even then, megumi was still toji's last thought as he was dying. the softness in his voice when he said "i'm glad" after coming to the conclusion that gojo had intervened in the toji-naobito agreement and had allowed megumi to stay a fushiguro!

and how delusional do you have to be to claim fushiguro toji is a good father?? bro??? toji loved megumi, sure. but his approach to his son, post his wife's passing, was hands-off: extreme edition. megumi himself says he hasn't seen his father in years and toji asks "who's that" in response to shiu asking about his son. all the "caretaking" choices he made for megumi (like arranging a future sale with the zenin, leaving him with his then partner, mamamiki) resulted in son's well-being and rearing being out of his hands. telling gojo that particular info but leaving it up to him what do with megumi's fate, is another wild example of his claim to absentee father of the century.

and i think it's easy to understand why. it's not out of malice, toji's treatment by his clan left him thinking that he was worthless and also, deeply unstable. all those traits resurfaced again during his grief. so, with an example of childrearing like that, zero positive influences in his own parenting (mamamiki isn't winning any mother of the year awards either. althought, idk if that would have changed anything) this was probably his way of trying to provide megumi w/ a better life by taking his presence out of the equation. the same happens when it comes to the sale. in his head, toji probably believes he is providing better odds for megumi by selling him back to their ancestral clan (even though, i'm sure toji knew he wouldn't be exempt from hardships - the zenin clan's still toxic even if you are an asset).

obviously, there here is also selfishness, lack of motivation, and a whole cocktail of other negative bullshit, in all of that. out of sight, out of mind (so out of mind he forgot to who the name megumi fucking pertained to. and, adding to the cherry on top, HE was the one who named his son). also, i cannot stress this enough,,,,he was going to financially benefit from SELLING his son. which is, and i cannot believe i have to say this so, bad! that, cancels every and any possible good (even if misguided) intention in leaving megumi in the zenin's care! he's a flawed fuck! he's another cog in the great old generational trauma of the zen'in clan! fushiguro toji is objectively not a god person or father! however that's part of what makes him, him. and as a consequence, what makes him such an interesting character. it's why their little father-son (unbeknownst to megumi) moment hits so hard. the baggage has to exist in order for that little moment to hold so much meaning.

in sum, i love all is well au’s as much as the next person, but why reduce such an interesting relationship, when discussing actual canon, to something with so little complexity? why viciously sanitize it? i want to see that energy in fics! in aus! but like. time and place ❤️

The new chapter reminded me again why I can no longer be satisfied with Shounen.

Gojo's dead and people think Itadori has a chance to kill both Sukuna and Kenjaku....

"We can now see who's the main character" (ნიშნისმოგებით, თან) cuz Gojo was "in the way of the story" and "story couldn't progress with him in it."

Yeah, if Itadori randomly gets an upgrate out of thin fucking air, when he doesn't even have a innate technique - "but he is gonna develop Sukuna's CT". — How the fuck is he developing anything if Sukuna is no longer in his body but in Megumi's?? You are BORN with innate technique!! Unless Sukuna goes back inhabiting Itadori's body, Yuji isn't developing anything (unless Gege pulls out some residual cursed energy leftover bullshit — i.e. powerup out of blue sky).

As a writer myself, I don't really understand why some people (especially Sukuna's die hard fans) don't get it how killing of Gojo Satoru OFF SCREEN is bad writing so I'm gonna explain (and rant) here.

Okay, pals, sit down, we are having a lecture in basics!

"How to become good at Writing 101" states that the writer can write story in TWO main ways: 1) is called "tell" and 2) is called "show".

Every single writer and critic from centuries ago to today can confidently say that writer using "tell" is one of the weaker writing choice. Let's compare simple examples.

1) "He died." — this here is "tell". Nothing happened, it's boring.

2) "He felt fatigued, he eyes could no longer focuse on the scene in front of him. The sound of blood rushing in his ears was defeating.. To draw air in his lungs was becoming harder and harder as time went on..." etc — this is "show".

Of course death can come instantly but as a doctor (by profession) I can assure you that human brain even after being decapitated can remine "alive" for few seconds/minutes, can understand commans, can open eyes, can look at someone who is talking to them, etc..

Even Gojo looking down at himself, while he was being cut in two, would have been enough "showing".

But to have another character, in this case, Sukuna, explain i.e. "tell" how Gojo died is exactly how it sounds — "tell".

In every literature: classic books, modern books, manga, etc, "tell" is considered weak writing style and it seems even Gege is bound to it for now.

Also, what was the point of unsealing Gojo if he had to still die in the end? Him remining sealed would make no difference in the story - Sukuna vs Kashimo would still happen and now that Sukuna has "adapted" to Infinity means absulutely nothing, cuz nobody is using Infinity in the manga anymore for him to cut "space".

In fact Gege just replaced Gojo with Sukuna as overpowered character and we can see that he hated Gojo solely based on how "strongest" he was (and on his attitude) and how he couldn't kill him.

And how he handled his overpowered character? Killed him off screen. So how's Sukuna dying now? Also getting off screened??

And Gojo died with no regrets, apparently. His pseudo-son has fried brain, his sister and his speudo-dad are dead (at his own hands (even if Sukuna is using them)), most of his shikigami are gone, and Sukuna is parading around using him as "meat suit" — that should, at the very least, still be Gojo's regret (not saving Megumi) but, no, apparently Gojo is selfish bastard who doesn't care about anything and he is glad that he died (even after not acomplishing anything at all), but just mad that Sukuna didn't go all out???

Talk about anti climatic.

Gojo dying like this is kinda giving Madara and Kishimoto and I do not like that (I don't think anybody does)...

This is why I can't deal with Shounen anymore, because no matter what, at some point story telling gets inconstintent and I better stick with Seinen, cuz story there makes more sense.
