mr. vampire
How ironic that the most excitement he had felt during the party had been a short conversation with his mysterious friend through their typical sporadic messaging. His curiosity had spiked after all these months of interacting strictly online, but there was something comforting about being himself without any pretense. He felt the longer the two of them went without meeting in person, the more strange it would be to start associating the face with the person his mind envisioned.
His social battery had begun depleting drastically after two hours since he had arrived at the venue. He had promised to stick around for an hour more, and head home with a friend. He had chosen to waste an hour watching the partygoers get increasingly competitive, or become sore losers from each round played on the gaming station. After losing a bet he had barely agreed upon, he decides to call it quits and head out of the bustling area. He swerves around a trio lost in the conversation to care about him, a server with a tray of hors d'oeuvre, but unfortunately, he miscalculates the last obstacle he encounters.
His gauge link bracelet snags on the shorter girl's dress, hooking onto the delicate fabric of a quite impressive costume. "Sh–" He presses his lips into a tight line, preventing a soft hiss to escape his lips. "I'm sorry. It snagged right through your cost–" He utters the next question, eyebrows furrowing with slight confusion. "What are you supposed to be?"

snow flowers
With all her friends being pulled in different directions, the end of the year was turning out to be bittersweet for her. It had taken her awhile to get used to living with other girls, silence had never been something that she particularly found comfort in. For the past three months, she woke up alone and returned to an empty dorm, which meant that she had become desperate to find other ways to occupy her afternoons instead of going home, but by now she was beginning to lose it.
In her conversation thread with Taeha, she spent several days documenting her loneliness with pictures, sad emojis, and audio clips. Surprisingly, her friend hadn't muted her or blocked her, which she wouldn't have fault her if only she scrolled up their thread and self-reflected. She truly cherished her relationship with the older girl, even going as far as calling her one of her bestfriends.
The weekend came and Taeha's Sunday would be highjacked by the younger girl, forcing her to go skating in the nearby ice rink and enjoy their morning. That was the plan until Minseo spotted the nearby park blanketed by an inch of snow and she linked her arms with her friend, pulling her along towards the hill. It was surprisingly empty with only people walking their dogs or rushing past them in bikes.
"When was the last time we've played with snow?" She asks, corners of her lips tugging upwards into a bright, mischievous grin. In retrospect, she should have known better than to play in the snow and get their clothes wet when they had the rest of the day to wander around the city. "Have you ever done a snow angel on the ground? I don't think I've ever tried that... Should we?!"

Minseo turns to glance over at her bestfriend rolling towards her with amusement glinting in her eyes, corner of her lips lifting upwards into the faintest smile. There was no questioning the young woman's quirkiness, or the thought process behind her actions. With no one around, the two could act impulsively, or say whatever was on their mind without filtering for the sake of others. She turns off the screen of her phone, refocusing her attention to the light fixture above them and squinting at the brightness. Her mother had absolutely changed the bulb to a cooler light, but her memory could be failing her too. It had been awhile since she had spent the night in her old bedroom.
"I don't think you can promise me that, Taeha." She reaches up to lightly pinch her friend's cheek, smiling to herself afterwards. "There is no way you don't talk in your sleep. I wouldn't be surprised if you acted out your dreams... You're too expressive awake to be completely silent while you're sleeping." She made a mental note to wake up throughout the night to test out her theory. She agrees with a soft hum at her bestfriend's suggestion, placing her phone on the chair above her head. The two of them could order later, but she was too comfortable on the floor to move at least for now.
"Is Milo our replacement for Hyunsoo?" She jokes with a soft laugh, sitting up to greet the puppy with a gentle stroke around the ears. "He even dresses like him too..." She fixes the black and navy striped sweater vest her mother had put on him before her parents left. She was still impressed by how non-fussy the Bichon Frisé puppy was about wearing clothing and the ridiculous accessories her mother purchased for him. Maybe that's why he was the favorite child now. "Let's go to the kitchen and figure out what we have. We can give Milo a treat too. You'll keep it a secret, Milo?"
╰ ❮ MINSEO ❯
"My parents went to pick up my grandparents, but knowing them, they'll return tomorrow." She swivels in her chair, flashing her a mischievous grin. She hadn't even checked if her older brother was in the house, but he was comfortable remaining in his bedroom, knowing that she had a special guest over. "Should we raid the kitchen? I think we can order food too if you're craving something else." She dramatically slides off the chair after failing to reach her phone from the floor, failing even with her foot. She shifts to lay on her back, unlocking the device with her passcode after it fails several times to register her face. "What do you think, T?"
Taeha’s eyes are glued to the journal in her lap, scribbling away at an ‘itinerary’ of sorts for the Ultimate Sleepover Extravaganza ( written in large, bubble font ). She’d been looking forward to this for weeks, counting the days between schedules when she would finally be able to visit her friend’s home after hearing so much about the festivities her family had planned for the Chuseok holiday. It was a comfort to her own family as well, she's sure. With her brother now in school and her parent's schedules, virtual family time was becoming more and more difficult to coordinate.
“No way!” she answers with a shake of her head, pointing out a few lines at the bottom of her page. "We have a strict schedule you know! We can't do midnight movie madness if I'm in a guest room. And I promise I don't steal sheets or talk in my sleep - At least I don't think I do..." she trails off, following suit and slipping out of her chair and onto the floor. It takes a few rolls before she's at friends's side, sputtering out the few locks of hair that had become tangled between her lips before pressing her cheek to Minseo's shoulder.
"Both? Maybe both? We can raid the kitchen first and then order some backup snacks in case we don't want to risk waking anyone up later?" The pitter patter of tiny paws in Minseo's doorway draws Taeha's attention, a hand jutting out to tap at the floor as the nosey pup makes his way inside. "Can Milo stay with us too? Do you think your mom would mind if we steal him for a night?"

₊ ˚ ⊹ 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋 , ft. @lgctaeha.
"be honest— is orange for me?"
unusually skeptical, the image of a budding celebrity of the utmost importance, gyuri finds herself facing an unyielding yearly battle, a tradition for this time of year. a seasonal wardrobe revamp. while being a firm believer in staple, timeless pieces, gyuri has always had an eye for changing trends. statement pieces, though largely unnecessary in one's daily life, were fun and exciting, an interesting talking point often made palatable by digestible silhouettes and easy colors. and, boy, did gyuri like being the talk of the town from time to time.
currently, she's holding up a light orange blouse, a nice transitional piece for when spring rolls into fall, but her expression is one of pure question, thick brows furrowed together with a frown. "i feel like it wouldn't be the worst on me, but now that i'm looking at the shirt itself . . . too old!" placing the shirt back on the rack she'd pulled it from, gyuri huffs as she turns to taeha, her companion for the day. "found anything cute yet?"

✰ … NO PAIN, NO GAIN. one bright idea after the next ( ft. @lgctaeha ).
bright-eyed and ready to take on the world from the moment he'd woken up that morning, misaki couldn't have ever imagined the days' timeline of events would lead him here, mouth stuffed to the brim with the spiciest ramyeon he'd had yet to try. all he hears is red, an unnaturally radioactive hue most people would have the common sense to steer clear from, but misaki was on a mission— no, they were on a mission.
the goal? emotional expression!
the younger could already feel the corners of his eyes beginning to well up with tears, a familiar tingling sensation tickling at the tip of his nose, but the harsh burn atop his lips and tongue drowned everything else out. geez, why did he mix in the whole packet?! not wanting anything to linger, misaki swallows the lump of noodles he'd been so confident he could handle in the name of experimentation, but little relief is felt— every desperate gasp for cooling air only makes the fires burn hotter, and for a moment, he forgets why they were doing this to begin with. "taeha, quick! play the music, i'm crying!" his voice is pitched, a mix of panic, excitement, and pain.
with a stuttering inhale, he readys himself to sing— only to cough violently. ok, maybe this plan was a bust . . .

kato arisa◞ ⟡   — ft. volunteering.
if arisa was only able to get behind one thing, out of all the things being thrown at her this month, then it would be volunteering. to hell with cleaning the company building and sweeping the snow off of the curb of the multimillion dollar company. and screw serving expensive, crappy coffee. so if arisa was going to put her precious energy into anything, then it would be towards something worth while. she had to come across as a brat of sorts — entitled. spoiled. rich. rude. there was probably a collective of colourful nicknames and descriptives that could be used for kato arisa. and sure, she could be entitled or rude at times, but arisa was nice to those who deserved it.
which funnily enough, wasn’t a lot of people.
she’s by herself today and she doesn’t have haley or taeha to lean on today. and god knows how miru was holding up, carrying all that coal. arisa thinks the girls kind of got off lucky carrying just shopping— she doesn’t think she would last too well carrying coal briquettes, nor would a lot of the male trainees either. but shopping— arisa could handle shopping. arisa walks alongside a middle aged woman, probably a little on the older side of middle aged— nonetheless, she looks fantastic for her age. two small children waddle along the other side of her, chattering amongst themselves while arisa is laden down with several bags of shopping, contents varying from fresh produce to a large bag of rice. the children expect to be a little more of a handful than arisa was initially expecting, as their chattering turns into bickering— arms being thrown, and then some screaming. the middle aged woman turns to arisa, apologizing before dumping her shopping at her feet, shuffling after them. angry, stern korean follows. arisa stands in the middle of the street awkwardly, unsure of what to say or do. she figures she will just wait for the woman to return.
to which she does, looking rather frustrated. both of her children now continue to stand beside her, upset that their antics were caught and stopped in their tracks. the middle aged woman is obviously comfortable enough to confide in arisa, because she begins talking to her in rather quick, fast paced korean which arisa finds herself jumping over metaphorical hurdles to try to keep up. she asks arisa a question, but the younger female stalls, unsure of how to formulate a response. “i’m so sorry, ma’am. i don’t speak korean well.” she admits honestly. the middle aged woman looks at arisa, offering her a small smile. “shall i speak a little slower for you, then?” she asks. arisa nods. “that would be great. thank you.”
arisa doesn’t get opportunity to respond to the woman’s question though. the conversation is null, instead redirected to arisa and her origins. “where are you from?” she asks arisa as the two of them resume their walking. “i’m from the united states.” arisa says slowly. “before that, i mean. you are not korean, are you?” the woman raises a brow. “oh, right. uh, japan.” arisa explains in response. the woman nods her head, muttering an ahh which arisa is left wondering if it was a positive ahh or a negative ahh — or maybe it was just simply an ahh ahh. “and are you studying here? working, maybe?” arisa isn’t entirely sure why the woman was playing twenty questions with her, but at least her questions were nice and genuine, she wasn’t trying to uncover all of arisa’s darkest secrets. or at least not yet.
so arisa kindly explains to the woman her reasons for being in seoul— how she got there and what she was doing exactly. what her goals were going forward. and while she seems surprised and a little taken back by arisa’s intentions here, the middle aged woman listens intently, helping arisa explain herself where she needs it. together, the two of them reach their final destination, having passed the time relatively easily through light conversation. “well, arisa— it was lovely meeting you.” the woman says, looking back over her children as they make their way through the old rusted gates of their housing block. “likewise, ma’am. i am glad i could help you with your shopping today.” arisa chimes back to her, bowing her head slightly.
“ah— thank you, very much. i hope to see you soon— and hopefully not carrying my shopping again. you’re too pretty for that. hoping it will be on the television, or the front of some fashion magazine! i’ll remember your name! kato arisa!”
maybe sooner rather than later. arisa could only hope.

ft. ( @lgcminkyu )    — image management workshop!
kiha never intended on becoming an idol— all of this, everything around him, was all because of a decision kiha had made on a whim. he had been coerced to audition for legacy entertainment by his younger sister, who was convinced ( and mildly concerned ) that her older brother was at risk of rotting away in his shoebox of an apartment in seoul. taeha was insistent that her brother was destined for better, brighter things. kiha had never worked out if taeha was being sarcastic or if she was attempting to comfort him— but maybe she was right.
no, he reminds himself. you don’t deserve better or brighter.
the beginning of the new quarter is reassuring enough, with legacy having all of the trainees— including the disgraced four; haley, haeun, yohan and kiha himself, slogging through workshop after workshop. essentially it’s another quarter of bootcamp, only it entails the 101 of how to be the picture perfect trainee while under legacy entertainment. it’s eye-opening to say the least, a lot of which kiha thought was common sense and knowledge.
his fellow trainees and their assumptions however might disagree with him.
kiha twirls his pen around his fingers on his right hand. with both the powerpoint presentations and lecturing having concluded, they’re being asked to talk amongst themselves, to discuss the points they have taken from said powerpoint presentation and lecture, with their fellow trainees. it’s funny— kiha really doubts anyone wants to sit across from him, look him in the eye and talk about all the things you should and shouldn’t be doing when training under the company. he’s copped way too many side eyes in this one workshop alone. surely there had to be someone who could lend an ear, at least so he looked as though he wasn’t ostracizing himself from the rest of his peers.
it was starting to feel like high school in a way.
his eyes settle on minkyu. kiha didn’t dislike or hate minkyu, but he kept his distance for the most part. only because the younger male was a force of cosmic energy to be reckoned with. and kiha could only do and deal with so much. he sighs, getting to his feet and moving his chair a couple of feet away towards the younger male. “hey—” kiha mutters, taking a seat again, leaning back into the chair. sinking inwards, wondering if he’s made a mistake approaching him now. “how did you,” he pauses, clearing his throat. “find it? the presentation, i mean.”

NOW PLAYING: Neva Play by Megan Thee Stallion(ft RM of BTS) SOLO- DITL | TRAINEE MISSION wc: 532 emi does a day in the life and shows what she does!
emi knows she's a trainee, but even with the strict schedule, the promises of working on, and the classes they had to take, she liked to make sure her routine wasn't too strict that it felt like nothing interesting was going on. so for her day in the life, she really wanted to make sure it was the best that it could be, from the very moment she opened her eyes until her head hit the pillow once again.
calming music starts in the beginning, an instrumental of a sunbaenim's song, as she does first things first; she always makes her bed(truly, she is happy she's senior enough to have the only single bed), and quietly does a stretching routine while making sure not to wake anyone up before she's heading into the next phase of getting ready. it only takes a moment to put on the kettle, and while she's waiting for the infamous high-pitched whistle(an almost 100% sign that emi had finally risen from her slumber, there's a brief 'getting ready routine'. she clips up hair that is probably in need of a trim, still as dark as ever, before she's moving to brush her teeth, wash her face, and even do a little bit of skincare, before she's moving like an expert-- a snap later and she's in her attire for the day. it's nothing unusual from her traditional outfits except for a pop of color-- a pair of dark sweat cargo pants and a cropped henley that's red to match red and white sambas, along with her hair in a high ponytail.
breakfast is like clockwork-- the kettle only whistles for less than a second before she's picking it up, pouring it into her signature mug with a tea bag and the faintest hint of honey. her breakfast is simple, tomato and egg, along with rice, while she journals in her planner, a notebook that happens to go with her everywhere, and then, she's packing a bag with ease and heading to her first classes of the day.
she lets people make their various cameos-- zoe, of course, along with maylin and taeha make brief appears as she goes about her day. she meets with some of her radio crew while having lunch, and even passes by seyoon for a brief hello in it all. in between that of course, is perhaps a side of emi that's a little less seen-- hair put up by a chopstick as she goes over performances for fam con, as well making sure to keep up with english. it's a collage of her personality meshing with everything as well, clips cut in a way that shows how she thinks about it all. there's actually, a rare direct speaking to the camera, preferring to write out captions about what was happening in a cute font, or even let her face do all the talking. when the day is finally done, she's moving to eat dinner, having a special treat of sushi before she's stretching once more, having a much needed shower and hair routine, and waving to the camera before the lights-- and the camera-- go dark and she flops into bed.

ip3 | episode two | weekly challenge
word count: 835
Tumblr media
The assignment of the week manifested as weight on Yena's shoulders, and she was full of nervous energy. To learn eight songs was a big enough challenge on her own - but having to work together with five other girls, assign positions and lines, and make sure everyone is synchronized? Well, that's asking for trouble, isn't it?
But on the very first day that the team got together, Yena acted like she was full of confidence, her smile appearing as bright and sunshine-y as ever. What else could she do? Showing her uncertainty or complaining about the assignment wouldn't do anything except give her an image that she didn't want to become known for. She studied performance videos of all the songs with great intensity, not wanting to miss anything that might be important to the performances. Her smile was temporarily gone while she studied the videos - it was almost like she was looking at the assignment as a job. And in a way, she was. She wanted it to be perfect. Not just for herself, but for her teammates, too. And as a dance trainee, she figured that she might be able to pick up moves that most of the others might not notice.
When it came time to actually begin practicing, Yena was practically bouncing in excitement. She was still tense with stress, but real progress was waiting to be made. She kept a hopeful outlook, even when a few choice team members couldn't get the moves after hours of going over them, or when others complained a little too much. She could feel tension brewing, and she didn't want to be the one to snap the thin line.
As the days went by and the time for the performances grew closer, Yena's determination grew tremendously. She thought she couldn't possibly try any harder, but she proved herself wrong on that one. She practiced any time she got a chance, and when she couldn't be in the practice room, she was softly singing her lines to herself to remember them or doing dance moves where she had the room. In the actual practice room, she danced until her muscles ached for a rest and then danced some more, making sure to give her teammates pointers whenever she saw something that could be better. But, for the most part, she knew that Mirae would keep them in line - that much had been proved by the young girl's outburst at Chanmi. Yena almost found herself snickering mid-dance as she remembered it.
At the dorm, Yena didn't have an eased mindset. She still sang her lines, still practiced the dance moves, still focused on the task they had been given. She wasn't the playful girl she had been in the first week - her smile remained in place nearly as often, but something had changed. Now she was knuckling down. She was desperate to improve her rank, despite the fact that she surely had enough time to do that in the next few episodes, as well. She figured it would be best to get ahead as soon as possible and show everyone keeping up with the show that she's a force to be reckoned with.
The night before the first day of performances, she made sure to get a whole eight hours of sleep - she knew others might think that that was the time to be practicing the most, but she figured it would be best to be in a good and energetic state of mind so that she wouldn't forget any lines or movements at the last minute. She would have to present the best version of herself possible.
Yena was beaming when she met up with her team the next day. "Hey. Did you all sleep well?" She asked, her voice trembling just a little bit from her nerves. She made sure to take the time to talk to each of them individually, offering little pep talks because, well, that's just who she is. She figured that with almost eight years of training under her belt, maybe her advice could be helpful in some sort of way. Hopefully.
The next two days turned into a blur almost immediately - most likely thanks to her nerves. Before she knew it, she was sitting in a room with all of the other trainees, watching videos of the performances. She made sure to applaud for each and every performance, but of course, her enthusiasm was most evident for her own team's videos. At the end of the day, she felt confident in herself. She didn't do as well as she had hoped, but she knew that she didn't do bad, either. Her teammates didn't disappoint, either - especially Mirae. Yena never doubted her from the beginning, but she was beginning to see that the girl wasn't just all talk - she had some serious talent. Even Taeha, who Yena had admittedly been unsure of, managed to keep up. All in all, it looked to be a successful week in her eyes.

IDOL PROJECT THREE
episode five weekly drabble - trainee relationships 503 words
Tumblr media
Though Hana is friendly towards most of the trainees she encounters, both within the idol project setting and outside of it, she actually has few trainee friends. Before the competition, she would have probably counted Mirae as her only true friend who is also a trainee. Within her own company, she isn’t particularly close with anyone, and anyone she had been more friendly with has either left or graduated into Eternity. Her and Mirae had met somewhat on accident some time before the competition, and their friendship has solidified further through living together and discovering uncommon similarities in their families’ backgrounds, despite being in the competition setting that is Idol Project. Through the competition, though, she feels that she has met some people who she likes enough to want to befriend properly - both Sean and also Raekyung (who she knew to a degree beforehand) are people she’d immediately felt comfortable with, and could see them becoming good friends in future. She also had taken a liking towards Taeha, and would like to get to know both her and Myungji (about whom she feels confused how they have rarely interacted, given her friendship with the girl’s sister) better outside of the show.
Really, there are few trainees she dislikes - just because she doesn’t form many deep friendships doesn’t mean she automatically dislikes everyone, and Hana has enjoyed the company of almost all the trainees she has encountered so far. However, there are a few she is wary of. Hana would be happy if she never saw nor heard of Chanmi again for the rest of her career, for after having to deal with her ego and unpleasantness up close and personal for two weeks in a row she decided then and there that she had had enough of the girl for the foreseeable future. Mercedes, too, though the girl has done nothing to Hana personally, is someone Hana has developed mixed feelings about. The girl presents a nice front to Hana, but Hana knows she has been unpleasant to Taeha, who Hana views as a sweetheart and during the younger’s time in the competition had felt somewhat protective over her, so Hana can’t help but look upon Mercedes with a degree of distrust.
Mercedes also happens to be the person who Hana sees as her biggest rivals - within Idol Project, at least. They are in different companies, so once the show is over, Hana will hold no feelings of rivalry toward the other girl, but in the competition so far it has been she and Mercedes that have been next to each other in the ranking every week, no matter where they sit on the scoreboard. Hana views Mercedes as the one she has to beat, or rather stay on top of, to achieve her dream of getting into the group, so although she is civil with and will work together with Mercedes when asked, internally she is measuring herself against the other girl and upping her performance where she can.

"A pet fashion line?!" Minseo exclaims, eyes rounding slightly with amusement. Had the cameras not been rolling, the two girls would have concocted an entire business plan with the cutest company name, but trademarking had to be done properly. If anyone was willing to be their investor, her mother would definitely pitch in considering their own family pet was treated better than her. "I'll have to learn how to sew, or illustrate..." Her voice trails off, pout forming on her lips when she begins cleaning up for the two of them while Taeha finishes bathing the last kitten. She figures the faster their work was done, the more time the two of them would have to play with the kittens.
"Speaking of our models, I saw cute bandanas, bowties, and flowers in the supplies closet–" Minseo pauses speaking, heading to the closet to pick out a daisy charm for the collar and a blue-green striped bowtie. "Should we prepare them for a candid photoshoot? We can probably set up a red carpet with the red blanket and use the mural as backdrop!"
"Ah! Yes, yes, yes!" Taeha exclaims, wrapping the kitten in a tiny cloth and hugging it to her chest. It squirms for only a moment before settling in her arms, comforted by her warmth. While Minseo continues with the baths, Taeha prepares a small space for the heating pad in the corner of a clean pen, away from any fleas that might still be lurking in the carrier. She gently places the kitten onto it, its round eyes blinking slowly as if signaling its contentment.
"There you go, clean and cozy!" She giggles, turning over her shoulder. "That would be so cute! I know they have them for puppies... Maybe we should put in a request! Or start our own pet fashion line?" She forms cat ears with her fingers hovering over her head and strikes a playful pose. "We technically already have models for it, don't we?"
The last kitten mewls from the carrier as if to agree. "Don't worry, we didn't forget you, promise!" Taeha waddles back over and reaches for her comb to start its bath.

IDOL PROJECT THREE
Tumblr media
episode three mirae + myungji + jinhee + taeha break it 1883 words
when they finally got to find out who won the past week’s head to heads, it was a bit of a surreal experience. mirae had never gone on the show expecting to be well liked, but week after week, it was proving to be the mirae show or something. she honestly hadn’t expected her group to do as well as they did, because while she and yena and hana had been well prepared, the other three could only do so much to get ready, and mirae had noticed every little mistake on the tape they’d seen already. she supposed every group had their share of mistakes, though, and team one walked out of it with four wins. and, to top that off, mirae was the most voted for three out of four times. she’d be frustrated about it not being a clean 4/4 record, but the last one had gone to raekyung instead, so she wasn’t too bothered.
mirae had cried upon seeing the standings that week. she’d been so certain that her outburst at chanmi would cost her first place, and make her fall significantly. that netizens would call her rude and controlling and cocky, and throw her into the fire for not treating fellow trainees better, but there she was, still number one. it was overwhelming. she was so proud, and of sean too-- had she not cried for herself already, sean’s rank would have definitely started the tears. while mirae wanted nothing more than winning, there was always going to be a part of her that was guilty, because sean deserved it so much more. he’d trained for significantly longer than she had. he’d almost been in the second idol project. he’d been on radioactive’s survival show, and had the chance to debut in two other groups. he was so talented, and danced for radioactive artists. and, most importantly, he was so kind and caring and supportive. mirae was his biggest fan, and she hoped he’d get the recognition he deserved after this show. of course, she wanted to win. she had the drive and the hunger to win. but if he won, she wouldn’t be upset. it would just make sense.
she could finally rest well that night, not worried about having to face her mothers after falling in rank because she couldn’t control her temper. well, she was still probably going to get in trouble for that when she got home. not from choe-- choe would probably think it was funny. but mihye would probably chide her a little, at least.
she woke up full of energy and ready for the next challenge that morning, pulling her hair up and getting ready fast before heading to the main stage hand-in-hand with her sister, finding sean in the mess of trainees and standing next to him. there was no one better to exchange glances or side-comments with. she was curious to see what the next challenge would be-- in the past two seasons, it had always been debut songs that came next, but there weren’t nearly enough co-ed groups, or even co-ed collaborations to cover this many trainees. mirae almost snorted to herself-- knowing mnet, they’d probably give everyone the same song and make them battle over it for false tension and higher ratings. that was their m.o was it not? this was an elimination episode too- why not forego the elimination and have a god damn execution instead? that would get people watching the show.
but no-- what they’d decided to do was even more boring than that. honestly, why even have both male and female trainees on idol project if they were only going to have the girls perform with girls and guys perform with guys? it was basically just like the third season was two seasons in one, and they just pushed them together because of budget cuts or something stupid like that. the only performance mirae had done that had even featured a guy was her stage with sean, and the company had picked that song for them.
the host revealed the debut songs that they could potentially be performing. kara and haze she’d expected, but not spica. not that spica wasn’t good or anything-- she just couldn’t think of any huge, groundbreaking disbandments beyond the other two. thinking about it, she decided she’d probably be okay with any of the songs. they were all good songs, and all had pretty okay choreography. push push was probably last on her list, though. it wasn’t anything special.
the teams had been divided by the coaches/judges this week; they’d decided who they wanted to see work together. and looking around at her team as she stood onstage, she felt apprehensive to say the least. she loved all the members of her team, and they were all talented-- myungji and jinhee were great vocalists, and taeha had the persistence to do anything given time. but again, this week mirae knew she’d be tasked with teaching choreography. and while jinhee had been in a girl group however many years ago and could catch on fairly well, myungji and taeha were a different story. still-- she had to be optimistic. all four of them had successfully pulled off the past week’s performances, and they’d have a lot more time to work on this one song this week. taking a deep breath, mirae reminded herself that she was a star and that she could do this.
when everything was set and the teams were divided, it was business as usual-- a producer lead them to their practice room for the week, where they found an ipod containing the song, and additionally, the part divisions, and a laptop with live performances so they could learn the choreography. the break it team went for the ipod first and listened through a few times, and eventually, mirae was given nicole’s part. gyuri and sunghee’s vocals would be harder for mirae to pull off, especially while dancing, and of the four of them, mirae was the best english speaker. and the only rapper, though mirae hardly counted nicole’s ‘cool talk’ at the start of the song rap. happy with the parts they’d gotten, they moved on to the laptop to watch the performances.
mirae’s heart sunk down into her stomach. suddenly, all she wanted was to leave and be on the russian roulette team. in her brain, she’d had a romanticized version of break it’s choreography apparently, because it was way worse than she remembered. bless kara, but they’d clearly improved a lot after their debut-- mirae almost wanted to pull her hair out. nicole butchered the english at the start. the vocals were shaky and cracky and shallow. and the choreography, oh lord.... mirae hated it. the base dance itself was alright, but the way they performed it was so half-assed. it was sloppy and lazy and lacked energy and it was just bad. the more they watched, the more mirae just wanted to do russian roulette. spica’s song had basic girl group choreography, but lord, did it ever look better than this.
as they watched more, mirae took a few more deep breaths, trying to talk herself off the ledge. she could do this. just because kara had been sloppy onstage didn’t mean she had to. just because nicole couldn’t string together two sentences of english didn’t mean she couldn’t. and, like she’d noticed before-- the base choreography wasn’t terrible. as long as she didn’t let her team get lazy,
the rest of day one was dedicated to learning the song and the parts. they sat in a circle and sang until they knew their lyrics backwards and frontwords, and they could sing it in their sleep. the more taeha practiced, the better she sounded, so it was a good idea. mirae had had a rollercoaster of a day, but by the end of it, she was hopeful.
she’d learned the choreography pretty quickly on her own, and before going to bed on day one, she ran through it in the dorm real quick to be sure she had it. before sleeping, she grabbed a notebook and made a plan. she kind of felt like mihye-- doing lesson plans and shit. but that’s kind of what she was, wasn’t she? her teammates were relying on her to teach her the choreography.
day two was dedicated to teaching the other three the basic steps. maybe spending a whole day doing the same thing was a bit much, but mirae wanted to be sure they had it down. that they could do it so well, they didn’t have to think about it anymore.
days three to five were what mirae liked to call the ‘beat kara’ days. mirae pushed her team-- slowly making the choreo harder, tighter, and more polished. she didn’t want to change it too much-- angry kara stans would roast her alive for that, and she was afraid of the judges getting pissed at her. but what she did do was change formations a little bit, and make things a little more dynamic. she couldn’t decide if kara had been lazy, or just been instructed to perform casually to look cool, but it looked bad, and mirae wasn’t going to look bad onstage. and as for formations, well...some of her teammates got some moves better than others. she was just trying to be creative with hiding some trouble spots, so her teammates came out of it looking better off.
days six and seven were all about running it, with singing, with music, until their feet hurt. polishing and perfecting. and by the end of it, mirae just hoped it would be enough.
things were a lot more relaxed backstage this week. everyone got to be together instead of being sent to different dressing rooms, first of all. they got to watch the other performances on the monitor. maybe it was just the lack of secrecy, but everything just felt lighter. mirae was sure to hunt down sean and make sure she was saying nicole’s english part at the start of the song right, and she wasn’t butchering it. she didn’t want to mumble or slur words together. international fans were such a big part of the industry these days, and she’d rather die than embarrass herself by butchering their language. and, on top of everything, she was really pleased with her stage costume-- baggy tied-up pants were always nice. she had nothing against skirts, but really, she never felt comfortable dancing in them. even with safety shorts on, she felt like she was flashing everyone.
when it was time for break it, mirae was in the usual zone she got into when she was performing. she wasn’t worried about her teammates or the audience or the judges. she just focused on herself and made sure she was doing the best she could do.
they got to watch their performances back later, and she was proud. her group was, for the most part, in sync. they looked tight and athletic, but you could still see where the old choreography was. mirae was proud.
the more this competition went on, the more mirae was sure she could handle anything.

continued from here ft. @mvxnn
There’s a moment where she doesn’t speak at all ; doesn’t think or move. The statement cuts deep , slicing through the facade she thought had been perfected. For all the times Hana had felt alone in the world , Taeha had been there to remind her she wasn’t. And yet here she was , hiding something from him she had never intended to. Her gaze is soft , almost sad , when she meets his. Staring silently for a moment before giving a slow nod. “ Taeha … i’m in love with you. I may have never voiced that , but I know you know. “ Her voice is soft , just loud enough for the two to hear. “ And that scares me … because I don’t know how to live without you. I feel it’s selfish of me to try and keep you beside me … I want to make you happy. “
Tumblr media
Taeha’s still fairly inexperienced with people but he knew what being domesticated meant and he’s certain that this was what Hana did to him. She made his stay in the city a little more pleasant and the urge to return a little less burning. The need to be back in the forest was still there but it was subdued by what he felt towards her. By this point, had he decided to leave her side, he’d miss her as much as he currently missed home. His heart was thorn between the two places, one of them being by Hana’s side. “I know.” He’s not sure if it’s mutual, unable to tell whether his and her attachment came from similar place but he knew that neither could live without missing the other. Next to her was as content as he could be among the human kind and he felt like he probably should let her know. Thus, he thought about the words, carefully choosing the right ones. “You make my stay here much easier. You help me understand this place... You found me and I cannot express how good it makes me feel.” He’s pretty sure he’d wag his tail at her anytime he’d catch a glimpse of her soft smile.

blue summer.
ft. ( @lgcsunhwa )     — in tokyo, japan
the legacy trainees’ overseas schedule at the host companies thus far hadn’t been too different or overly difficult when compared to their experiences back home, and the language and culture exchanges between the host companies and the cities themselves were enough to keep things interesting. it was to be expected though, given the obvious barrier between south korea and the trainees’ host countries for the training period. although somewhat of a disruption in kiha’s day-to-day, he’s enjoying the reprieve from working and studying all the time, even if it was a part of his daily routine that he cycled through every day as expected, without interruption.
he finds he enjoys the quieter moments outside of their training the most. morning walks through tokyo’s quaint backstreets or coffee and a pastry in one of tokyo’s many parks with a good book. day by day he was confirming his status as legacy’s local recluse. he didn’t mind spending time by himself or having everyone go off and do things without him, although he was appreciative of the invites. but tonight, kiha figures he’ll take a leaf out of jiwon’s book of suggestions and invite someone to do something for once. he isn’t feelingly overly adventurous, but it’s somewhat of an achievement for the yoo kiha. he extends the invitation to sunhwa.
the backstreets behind their temporary dormitories were beginning to quieten down as the sun was setting. despite working in a convenience store back home for a year or so, he was curious about the elusive japanese convenience stores, and kiha figured it might be a good opportunity to grab some candies and snacks for taeha, that is if they last from now until when they get back to south korea. which was weeks away. he didn’t like his chances.
kiha waits on the curb near their dormitories for sunhwa, not wanting to force her to meet him in some seedy, secret location. it was probably already suspicious enough that god forbid, the two of them were seen together. but they were literally going to the convenience store. it was literally down the street. kiha kicks at the pavement beneath his feet as he waits, picking his head up as he senses a bit of movement coming out of dormitories. “thanks for entertaining my attempt to live a little.” he says with a small, lopsided smile. “how are you?”
