Why Fruits Basket Is Actually The Best Romance Anime
Just my opinions, and yes I’m hella bias .. don't care 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Fruits Basket deserves the praise it gets, from the story itself to the characters and the issues this show shines a light on, Its all just peak. I like how the characters struggle, it feels more relatable. It’s not just a wholesome romance anime with bland characters, it gives us a lot more. With most of the characters overcoming their fear of Akito, Kyo struggling to feel wanted just because he was never accepted. Of course Tohru has many problems of her own but she never hesitates to help others around her. The character development this show has is incredible, I like how it not only shows the main characters development but also some of the side characters as well. This show honestly made me want to be a better person, but lets be real I could never be Tohru. I think all the characters are well written and they all learn from each other. Its just so beautiful to watch, you never know if you're going cry or laugh, definitely an emotional rollercoaster.
Also I love Kyo with my entire soul ❤️❤️

Dragonyear is a role-playing blog for Hatori Sohma of Fruits basket. To avoid multiple blogs I will also be musing Momiji, Ritsu, Yuki, Kyo, and Ayame as secondary side muses as well but consider this mainly a blog for Hatori. Focus is on friendship, love, acceptance, and healing from past trauma. Cherished by Crescent.
icons are from here & here and not made by me at all. Icons used are cropped and made by me.
about
rules under cut for ease of access
This is a highly private and selective roleplay blog for Hatori Sohma. Ritsu, Kyo, Momiji, Ayame, and Yuki are all secondary request only muses. They're available at any time, but they're not the main focus. So I treat this blog like a single muse that just happens to have extra side muses. I call it my "unofficial multi".
If you want to roleplay with Momiji or Ritsu please specify. Otherwise, you will defaulted to Hatori since this is his blog. Though, I will place interaction calls for Momiji and Ritsu when inspiration strikes.
As long as we're mutuals feel free to send me random asks, memes, like my starter/inbox calls go nuts. If we're not mutuals DNI with any memes or calls.
I have many headcanons developed over the years for these muses, please respect them.
Shipping is not a top priority but I do welcome ships outside of any canon ones that are expressed within the anime/manga. However, they must be appropriate to the muse and within reason. I especially love platonic/friends/found family/familial etc.
I do not tolerate drama of any kind and I do not personally reblog callouts but I will review evidence and if it is deemed to be dangerous or cause harm, I will block of my own accord. But I am not here for he said she said high school drama.
This blog may contain triggering topics and Fruba does cover some dark material under its light heart romcom.
This blog is for those 18+ and mun is 30+

Fruits Basket season 3 episode 9
Omg yall. The kiss. THE KISS!!!! I legit screamed and had to pause and rewind heheh. They legit gave me life today I love them so much!!!
Tell me why I still yelled at Yuki for running the wrong direction😂 This mf had 2 options and chose the wrong one. Lmao.
I can't (well, I can) believe that Akito swung at Tohru like that, smh. I honestly teared up when Tohru was talking to Akito. I understand Akito has hella baggage but I still don't accept her 100%. Give me some time, I'll warm up to her more. Also, why was Shigure and Yuki so damn calm when Akito said Tohru fell, I was like helloo😭😭 call 911 hurry!!!!
If it weren't for me having a full face of makeup right now, I would have cried more when Tohru was speaking about her love for Kyo. Ma'am, what she said was beautiful and her love did not cause him pain, he loves her just as much😭😭But when Tohru kept saying "Don't cry anymore" bitchhhhh and the OST bro. That OST hits hard whenever someone is monologuing, I swear.
Anyway, seeing the other Zodiac's reaction to Tohru's fall was sad but what hit most was Momiji😭 I didn't even think about that. I legit had to pause and contemplate on crying🥺 Poor baby, but I'm glad he talked to Akito and kinda talked some sense into her.
It's interesting that both Kureno and Tohru, who are basically the same, personality wise, are in the hospital. Akito should be glad they ain't pressing charges cause a mf would be in jail😂 Can we talk about the outro being so abrupt too😂

Fruits Basket Prelude Review
Fruits basket prelude. The values of modern times may change, but past media doesn’t.
The relationship of Kyoko and Katsuya is controversial amongst fans of the series, especially the anime onlies who flooded the fandom as result of the reboot. What is important to remember is that fruits basket is both a series from another culture, and another time. The 90s and early 2000s was a different time. Teens dating slightly older adults wasn't viewed the same way and the further back you go, the more common it was. From The Sound of Music, to Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you see it. Add in the fact japan is a different culture which changes at a different rate and you should get the picture. And for the record, the story is self aware enough where starting drama accomplishes nothing. Kyoko literally makes a Lolita complex joke at Katsuya's expense.
Let's all remember this is a work of fiction as well and enjoy the show. While we may relate to these characters and love them, they aren't real. And fiction is where we explore fantasy. A student teacher romance itself, being a popular romance story trope.
Before we tackle the prelude, let's address the recap and epilogue.
The recap, while unnecessary does provide some nice insight into kyo's point of view. For those of you who were dissatisfied with some creative liberties the final season took regarding kyo "forgetting" his connection to Tohru and Kyoko, despite it being clear through out the earlier seasons and even during the final itself, that he didn't, this clarifies that he simply tried to put it in a box and not think about it. Is it a lazy retcon because TMS got called our for their bs and realized they created plot discrepancies that weren't there? Probably but we'll never know for sure. At best this recap serves the purpose of emotionally prepping the viewer to cry during the movie and reintroduce the context regarding kyo's bond to Kyoko. Something that wouldn't have been necessary if they final season was given the full season order it needed.
At worst, it's just a cheap and pointless time killer eat up runtime while barely spending any money. It's also a minimalistic approach to trying to restore the emotional impact this background story had during the manga and how the later content would play off this tension, both during Kyo and Tohru's character arcs. Not that tms / production committee saw much value in those, despite them being the protagonist and love interest.
Now Takaya sensei hear our pain about the final season rushing though content and not properly delivering the resolution to character arcs and the story. And she took this opportunity to provide a nugget of joy to anime and manga fans alike. That's right, a new brief epilogue from therapist. I mean mangaka.
While the epilogue is brief, it hits all the right notes. It builds on Tohru and Kyo’s graveside conversation and shows a glimpse at their married life. The happy couple is living their best lives, working hard, panning a trip back to the family and being all lovey dovey. Its everything tms cut out of the main series. It's thrilling to see some of the sweet kyoru content we deserved. Thank you sensei. You never fail to deliver when you're needed. Now please pick up that pen and get back to Liselotte. If you're truly done with furuba and furuba another your fans need you elsewhere.
So let's dive in to prelude now. Katsuya Honda is an interning student teacher and the fantastic woman we all know and love, Kyoko, is a middle school senior. Their paths cross at a time where Kyoko is young, rebellious and emotionally volatile. She is the crimson butterfly, the girl gang member feared by her peers, and underneath her tough as nails facade, is just a broken girl from an unhappy home.
This is the story about how this girl became the emotional pillar that helped save Arisa, Kyo and of course Tohru. And the person who saved her? That's right, Katsuya Honda. He saw in Kyoko, the same emotions he hid beneath a mask of his own and when she broke down and cried, he fell in love. It was her raw honesty that reached him. And while their situations may have been different, they were still quite similar.
While she had chosen to put on a tuff girl act and gall in with a bad crows in order to hide her pain, he had chosen to give into the demands of his controlling and judgmental family and put on the act of the dutiful and obedient son. Even his decision to pursue teaching was in order to please those around him, be they family or the expectations of the other teachers. You can see the moments he drops his mask. He removes his glasses (which are fake and part of his facade) and swiftly flips the switch into a dark prince type character. He takes Kyoko pointing out his bad behavior as a compliment every time. Because she sees the real him along with the fake him and enjoys it. Just like how he sees value in both versions of her.
The two of them spent many lunch breaks chatting and growing closer. She never once attended his class. Even after he revealed he would be leaving the school and not pursuing education, she couldn't bring herself to face her peers judgement by entering a classroom. But luckily for her this twisted teacher wanted to keep meeting her.
His belief in her, reach her. It helped guide her to a better path. And helped teach her that she is worthy of love. But this better path and desire to change was held back by her past. Her decision to leave her gang, stole her opportunity to attend high school and got her disowned by her family. But luckily for her, Katsuya provided the home she needed and with the blessing of her father who just wanted her gone, married her.
We spend just enough time witnessing and enjoying their life together to become attached to their bond, their marriage and their parenting before tragedy strikes and Katsuya abruptly passess away. It leaves you wanting more, a feeling painfully shared by Kyoko as she is reduced to an empty shell of the woman she was before. She falls into so much darkness that she essentially forgets about Tohru entirely.
This story is as much a commentary on societal expectations as it is a romance. Both Katsuya and Kyoko were forced to hide behind masks as they came from two very different, but very troubled homes. They were judged by their family, each others families, their peers, but with the support of Katsuya's father who had lightened up after the death of his wife, they were able to move forward, determined to prove everyone who judged their relationship wrong.
"Show them you are happy because you are together"
That’s right people, even within the story their relationship is judged as wrong. And anyone who is looking at furuba as some black and white morality story seriously needs to rewatch it again. After katsuya's death, insults at hurled at Kyoko by both his family and her own father. And while the movie didn't show it, the anime did reveal that they even insulted tohru, choosing to say hurtful things like she probably isn't even Katsuya's son. We spent 40 minutes on a recap but couldn't even have crucial content like that put in cause reasons.
Now I want to take the time to discuss something very important. The poor planning of the series that tore the final season to pieces is not solved through this movie alone. And the poor planning continues here. The time spent on the 40 minute recap, could of easily been spent animating content that directly ties into Kyoko's death. Kakeru's arc and connection to Tohru were repeatedly foreshadowed throughout the second season. Manga spoilers follow, so please only continue if you're OK with that. This would of been the perfect opportunity to fix one of the biggest mistakes of the final season, which was not adapting the content revealing what this connection was. Kakeru's girlfriend, Komaki, who was also mentioned several times, is the daughter of the man who killed Kyoko with his car. He attended Kyoko's funeral and went off on tohru for acting like she was the only person who lost someone in that accident (all before Komaki could nock some sense into him). An act that would play a part in Tohru beginning to hide her grief behind her happy go lucky attitude for most of the series. The final season did Tohru's background and character arc a disservice in many ways, and while this movie at least restores some of it, it does not fully deliver or resolve the issues with the final season.
I'll see you guys when tms and the production committee come back for more ovas, movies or whatever else they decide to do to bleed more money out of us. There's still entire chapters that were left unadapted and plenty of half chapters and skipped scenes, so here's hoping for a director's cut. Otherwise, be sure to check out the manga. You won't regret it. The story deserves the be told infull and that's the only way to experience it as of now.
And for anyone wondering if they'll adapt furuba another, the sequel series, kakeru and komaki's child is a player, so it shouldn't be adapted without a proper adaptation of their story arc.
Please make sure to like my review on mal
And if some of you'd be interested in hearing more of my thoughts, please let me know. I had a lot more I wanted to say but thought it was already pretty long for a review. I'm more then happy to write a bit more analysis though if asked.
And please excuse typos. I'm still doing everything from my phone. I held onto this review for over a week to make corrections but got lazier the more time went by.

"A Gift Wrapped in Pandemic Paper and Offered in Pieces," or "Meaning without Consequence: My Pandemic Experience with Fruits Basket"
“A Gift Wrapped in Pandemic Paper and Offered in Pieces,” or “Meaning without Consequence: My Pandemic Experience with Fruits Basket”
It’s finally time to sit down (or lie down as the case may be since I’m laying in bed while typing this paragraph) and try to tie my experience with Fruits Basket into a neat little bow. I don’t know how to explain the sort of meaning it’s held for me over the past year and a half—a gift so bizarrely wrapped in pandemic paper and offered up in pieces—but I’m certainly going to try. Now that the…

My mom watched Fruits Basket 2019 with me last night. I think I’ll have to do some sort of thread of her thoughts from each episode. It’s intriguing to get an outsider’s pov. 🤔
She already knew who Kyo was because I talk about him so much lol
She thought Shigure laughing at Tohru for living in a tent was incredibly rude...and same.
She’s enthralled by the big eyes on the characters because she doesn’t watch a lot of anime. 😂
She had a theory that Tohru is one of the zodiac. She asked me if this was true but I said she would have to see for herself. And I’ve actually seen this theorized by a lot of newbies.

Fruits Basket Ep. 1 Review!
Not like I have any business doing this, but I just love these characters so much and I wanna talk about it! (particularly about the animation techniques of the episode, which in this case I’m kinda salty about). Hopefully, I’m gonna do these after I watch each episode. Spoilers below the cut!
Just a note that for now, I’ve only watched the sub, not the dub. Also, I’ve read through the Manga multiple times, so I know where things are going... With that out of the way, let’s dive in!
Opening: the opening minute of the show setting up the animals and the banquet was beautifully done. One of the wonders of fruits basket is the way we are pulled into the Sohma world along with Tohru, and the deeper we go, the darker and more complex things become. Setting up the show with just a hint of the future mystery and magic before diving into Tohru’s story invites watchers to stick around a bit longer and learn more. This is actually super important, because, unfortunately, most of the rest of the episode feels more like ground work than exposition.
However, after the enigmatic Junishi opening, we dive into the rest of the:
Animation (or: why isn’t that moving?): those of you who, like me, watched the 2001 anime are probably thinking about what a drastic improvement this is. I agree, artistically and stylistically, this version is on much more solid ground. The colors and the backgrounds feel alive in a way the 2001 show could only dream of.
Unfortunately, good art does not good animation make. At numerous points throughout the episode, we get these repeating loops of movement that really fail to deliver on any of the emotional tension the story is trying to set up. When Yuki talks to Tohru after school, the only things moving are the eyesparkles(tm) and her hair in the wind. Without her focus shifting or an other changes in her expression, we’re left totally in the dark about her actual emotional response to Yuki’s words. These looping movements, while easier to produce, don’t actually serve to help us understand the characters or their thoughts, actions and emotions.
Let’s go to another scene in which the animation betrays the storytelling: Tohru recalling the morning of her mother’s death to Shigure. During her speech, neither she, nor Shigure moves a hair. Instead, all the movement comes from slow pans across the scene of the room. We get no reaction from Shigure, no straining expressions or quivering from Tohru, nothing but the dialogue to convey emotion. Tohru has the covers pulled up over her mouth, so we can’t even see her talking. Its not that the dialogue is bad, just that it would have been more impactful had the characters faces moved at all during it. Shigure is even holding a fan the entire time which he doesn’t wave at all. It would have been fairly easy to have him start the scene waving it and then stop, struck by the dark things Tohru has gone through. Instead, the Static nature of the entire scene starts the story on a leg of telling, rather than showing.
These kind of short cuts make the animation process easier and cheaper, and to be fair, they can be used effectively.
Let’s go back to that strong opening for a bit. The animation here is pretty similar to the rest of the episode, with lots of simple loops and pans, where the camera draws our focus to one point of action. However, here, style is far more effective, because the lingering shots are meant to set up intrigue, not convey emotion. We are left wondering: what is this about? why is this item important? what is making this poor cat cry? We keep watching because we want answers to these questions. Unlike the scenes above, the style supports the storytelling.
Luckily, Kyo Bursts through the roof! (Sorry, not sorry, Shigure.) This scene is what gives me hope. Its a brief moment in this episode, but there’s a lot of action and movement, and the characters expressions are included. The scene sets up multiple twists to the story as it has been set up so far, introducing the second male lead, setting up an immediate and intense rivalry, revealing the whole animal transformation thing, and totally shifting the tone of the episode in its closing moments. It’s a mirroring hook to the opening scene, reminding the viewer that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Now that the set up it out of the way, the real show can get moving.
So to sum up episode 1:
High points: Opening, Kyo’s introduction
Low points: “heart felt” dialogue, flashbacks, slow pans, HairInWind.gif
Overall Rating: 6/10
Overall not the best intro, but I can’t write it off completely yet. They’ve done some of the leg work in establishing intrigue, but the animation sometimes falls short of the show’s emotional needs. I’m really hopeful that the show does well enough to improve this in the future, because its what this story deserves.
See you next Episode!

Fanfic Year in Review 2020
Okay! Since I’m finally done posting for this year I can finally do my year in review!!
1. List of fics completed this year:
I published 11 fics this year! Nearly half the total amount of fics I’ve published in total wow.
1. thank you’s & i’m sorry’s | mdzs | jc & wwx reconciliation | 6.6k 2. blooming | mdzs | modern wangxian au | 3.4k (incomplete) 3. pick your filter | sailor moon | disguise pen series | 11.1k (incomplete?) 4. i wanna know you and i wanna love you | hq | 3rd year kagehina | 9.2k 5. you’re hotter than the sun, baby | hq | mildly nsfw kagehina | 5k 6. midsummer’s night (ice)cream | bnha | bakugou, ice cream, friends | 2k 7. ribs | fruba | 5+1 yuki-centric | 9.8k 8. a portrait of infatuation (as told by kageyama tobio) | hq | atsukage fluff | 7.5k 9. tu fais pleurer les anges (mais ici je souris) | hq | angel/reaper kuroken | 6.1k 10. kiss it better, please! | hq | iwaoi short | 1.5k 11. oh, those pretty boys | hq | atsukage + makeup | 3.9k
9/11 are completed and 4/11 are multichaptered. mostly hq because that’s my current obsession this year haha.
2. Number of words written:
Published words: 75523 I think the total number would be somewhere closer to 100K+ considering all the WIPs I have (to be published in 2021 wow!)
3. Your most popular fic this year:
Sorted by kudos on AO3, it’s thank you’s & i’m sorry’s This was also the first fic I wrote this year too.
4. Your personal favourite this year:
I think it’s a tie between i wanna know you and i wanna love you & a portrait of infatuation (as told by kageyama tobio)
I really loved writing both of these fics and they are super self-indulgent and sweet. I’ve reread them both multiple times haha
5. Your favourite scene:
i’m bad at remembering and picking favourites but i really like how this part in you’re hotter than the sun, baby came out!
All Shoyo can hear is the increasing loudness of his heart going thump-thump-thump; he’s pretty sure Kageyama can feel his erratic heartbeat too, with how closely he’s pressed on top of Shoyo. Another breeze blows by, Shoyo’s brain barely registering the sound of ruffling fabric, hardly noticing the bottom of the curtains tickling their bodies. It’s still hot as hell, but a shiver travels down his spine. There’s something inherently erotic, Shoyo thinks, about the carnivorous, arrogant look in Kageyama’s eyes mixed with the aggressive heat, both in the air and emanating from their bodies. The evening sun illuminates Kageyama’s apartment, warm streams of sunlight filtering in through the glass of his balcony door, wind blowing in through the mosquito net, causing the white, semi-transparent curtains to flow up and down. There’s probably a lovely sunset going on outside and Shoyo could catch the beauty of it if he just turns his head ninety degrees to the left. But he’s fairly certain he’s physically unable to take his eyes off of Kageyama right now, unable to look away from those pretty blue eyes, that pretty smirk on that pretty face that’s leaning down to kiss him again.
6. A fic or scene that challenged you:
thank you’s & i’m sorry’s was a bit difficult since it was my first mdzs fic and it was challenging to write in that tone at first but I think it was a lot of fun in the end.
Also ribs was harder than I expected. I usually stick to oneshots and writing a 5+1 was more challenging than I had thought lol.
7. A line of writing you’re proud of:
I don’t know if I have a single favourite line but I loved the whole style of a portrait of infatuation; the little almost-fourth-wall breaks were SO fun to write.
He’s having lunch with Atsumu-san, eating his oden —
(Which is maybe the worst part because now how is he supposed to eat out ever again without thinking about this whole mess?
— so he’s eating his oden (which tastes amazing and warms Tobio’s stomach in the most pleasant way) when he notices something: Atsumu-san hasn’t even touched his meal yet.
and I also like the idea that the reader is free to put together/come up with the other half of the conversation lol.
The first thing Tobio does when he slips into his sister’s apartment is take his shoes off and put on some slippers—
(Yeah, he knows that’s a normal thing to do. The important part is what he does next but he can’t just lie and say it was the first thing, oh my god.)
— the second thing Tobio does is sit down in his sister’s entryway and scoop up Mikan and give her all the pats and scratches she deserves.
8. A comment that touched you:
I don’t think I can pick just one haha. I love seeing the notification for any comment, comments really are one of the best things ever. but this one in particular really made my day when i read it because it just felt like validation that someone out there likes what i write and likes my style of writing.
i have been cured of all ill things in my life. this brought extra 40 years to my life. i- seriously this story was amazing! great job. if i could quote the whole story, i would. the narrative from tobio was just way too funny, the instagram comments gave me life, and the overall story was adorable and funny. i couldn't help laughing and smiling. this includes so many headcanons of which i am personally a big fan of. i love the detail that miwa designed tobio's apartment. i love hinata and tobio's friendship, it's just so well written and i give you the biggest praise for that. i am an absolute sucker for atsumu being whipped with tobio, it's just one of the things that makes me the happiest. i love the sister relationship tobio has with both miwa and alisa, it's too pure, and it is totally sister culture to take pretty photos of their dear ones. i love mikan and i love how tobio seems to get along well with it (cause his perevious concern was over animals not liking them, and this warmed my heart so much). i would also like to know where can i apply to the "tobio defence club". i'd like to join them and get those baby pictures.
so first of all: atsumu having a dramatic influence on tobio's behaviour, making him more sassy and outgoing (and more dramatic-), yes, we love to see it. atsumu brings out the best in tobio. we stan a healthy relationship. second of all: (How is it self-obsessed to read comments about himself if he isn’t the one who posted the picture?)- this sentance right here. i adore it sm. i have no words just how amused i am by it. i LIVE for sassy tobio. third of all: atsumu "making a digital shirne and fanpage of tobio-" please that sounds so adorable omfg. yachi being a good and supportive friend,, osamu being the amazing sibling he is,, alisa being an angel she is,, fourth of all: atsumu feeling bad over the pictures because he feels like tobio is uncomfortable is just so cute. a weird statment i know, but i live for relationships built upon deep care for each other. and tobio knowing that something is wrong, but not being able to put a finger on it. omg babyama, you're going to give me a heart attack. im squealing over charaters really loving and appreciating thier partner, it just clenches my heart. okay but kagehina's childish banter means so much to me. and sakusa's comments make me laugh out lound. and last (but not least): tobio teasing atsumu= me screaming my lungs out. and then the council od tobio defence club, i'd love to read more about that. what would their conversations be like?
i love you. i love this fic. i love atsukage. i love that i've had enough luck to be born in time to read this. i thank you so much for writing and sharing. and yes, we always appreciate more atsukage content. great job at writing fluff and comedy, i personally think that you did a great job. i thank you once again, and send many well-wishes!
it’s probably the longest comment i’ve gotten (not that longer automatically means better!) but when people point out specific parts of the story they liked it always makes me smile and feel super loved and everyth
9. Something that inspired your writing this year:
The HQ fandom for sure! I started watching Haikyuu at the beginning of this year and a whole new world of fandom was opened to be haha. I think seeing others work and talk about their writing and fics was inspiring too. And k-dramas. K-dramas always fuel my romantic fantasies.
10. Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc)
I wrote a lot this year! I also joined a lot of events towards the later half of the year which helped inspire me and I made a lot of fandom friends too. I learned how to fix the double spacing and italics errors on AO3!!
I think overall, writing so much during 2020 is something I’m proud of. This is the most I’ve ever written. I wrote for different fandoms and I think my writing style has really improved too. I began writing more of what I wanted this year too I think.
11. Do you have any writing goals for the next year?
Last year’s goal: Write more! Write for more fandoms! Write different genres!
I think I definitely did that! Well, maybe not different genres exactly since everything has still been my usual fluff/humour combo lol. But I think I did try new things out a lot. Namely straying away form writing canon-verse I think. I had a lot of fun writing the kuroken angel/reaper AU and I also am in the middle of writing a modern magic AU.
My goals for next year: Keep writing. Write what I want to read. Stop obsessing over hits/kudos so much!!!
I already have a handful of fics planned for the new year and I can’t wait to write more!

Just so u know, ep 24 of fruba has one horribly mistranslated line of Shigure, you will know it when u see it. Crunchyroll wont fix it probably
Kindly tell me what is the right line. I’m afraid to search for it & accidentally see anything abt the finale!!!!
I already watched ep.24 & wrote half my ep review. I know shigure said sth along the of “ akito needs to hurry & punish them” which is evil. Shigure should be happy that the sohma’s are slowly rebelling & akito is loosing yuki. His lines means he wants the curse to stay??

oh dude dude dude update us with your thoughts this season of fb bc I’d love to hear your thoughts as the story develops!! :3c
wait let me just review the episode
*looks through screenshot collection*
i only took 118 screenshots of the last fruba ep, which to be fair is a pretty normal amount for a show i’m not super into but really like the aesthetics of. i just. take lots of anime screenshots
anyway i do remember reading the fruba wiki and then seeing “oh yuki ends up w/someone” but i don’t remember her name or appearance but i get the feeling she showed up for the first time this episode? i could be wrong on that
anyway i’m not gonna lie my main train of thought watching this episode was just “TODOMOMO FRUITS BASKET AU TODOMOMO FRUITS BASKET AU” but the more i thought abt it the more i was like “AAAAHHHHH BUT SO MUCH WOULD HAVE TO BE CHANGED AHHHHHH”
like you could probably change at least some of the relationships btwn characters but personalities would still have to be assigned off of the zodiac thing bc that’s one of the ways you can kinda get to know a character right off the bat/figure out what zodiac they are so it would probably take some thinking so ahhhhh
would be fun to see drawn tho c;
anyway this was my favorite part of the episode
THE PART WHERE SHIGURE WAS LIKE “OOOO MAN THEM DOKI-DOKIS” MADE ME CACKLE
and also
“I KNOW ROCKS LESS DENSE THAN YOU” THAT IS SUCH A GOOD INSULT I LOVE IT SO MUCH AHHHH
#asks#anyway it should be no surprise that i really like the kyoru dynamic#i actually read a really really good soul eater fruits basket au before i watched fruits basket#so i had some impressions walking in and knew some basic things that would happen#and it only covered the original fruits basket thing so i have no idea what happens after tohru brings kyo back#but anyway i was still really surprised at how much stuff got cut in the fic to focus on the relationship btwn soul n maka#who were kyo n tohru respectively obvs#YOU SHOULD READ SOUL EATER IT'S SO GOOD MANNNNN#and then watch the anime but the anime doesn't adapt the whole manga so it's like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH#BUT LIKE SOUL/MAKA IS LIKE??? YOU CAN'T NOT SHIP THEM IT'S LIKE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH#stardust-make-a-wish

Hello! I had a question- who are some of your anime-only Fruits Basket reactors? I was hoping to find some more to read/watch. :)))
Hi! I watch AH Brandon Anime Reviews. His thoughts and opinions abt the show is completely spot-on. He provides really good and in-depth analysis each eps like every review I'm like, "He gets it!". He also creates meta vids on some theme of the characters. His famous one is abt Tohru as a flawed protag! So go check him out.
My friend recommends BriThi too. He not only reacts on eps but also on previews and pvs too. Accrdg to her, he's a very entertaining watcher and a pretty popular fruba anime-only watcher. His reactions to some of the plot twists and favorite moments in the show are the best. She also recommend ThoughtBubble. They're a duo podcast, I think? He's an anime-only watcher and his gf read the manga and they lay out their opinions of the recent ep and makes some predictions and theories for some storylines so it's refreshing to hear some of these theories if ur too exposed in the manga reader world.
Aside from that, I sometimes watch Lalafluffbunny and MemoryNK's reactions too. They both have very relatable reactions and they remind me of the first time I've read the manga. Btw, there's a reaction mashup posted if you want a variety of reactions. FloraRed read the manga but she doesn't spoil anything in her reactions and she makes manga comparisons after eps.
I hope this would help coz that's about the stuff that I know but I'm sure there are a lot more anime-only watchers ❤

Fruits Basket season 3 episode 11
Idk what's wrong with me, I cried during the first half of the episode. Seeing Kyo and Tohru together, being able to hug and kiss each other made me so happy. Their love for each other just hits so much different than any other ship!!! (Probs a tie with Hak and Yona hehe) Kyo blushed like 8540 times throughout the one scene hehe. When Kyo said "If I want to keep living, I want to do it with you", that hit!!!! I love this man. Also, the way that Tohru cried for Kyo when he was able to hug her then broke the bracelet. What a moment🥺😭
A scene that broke me was when Tohru was telling herself to keep smiling, and it just made me sad to see her force herself. Alsoo, ya'll noticed the (possibly Momiji's) bunny when Tohru was on the hospital bed?? Something sad I realized after most of the Zodiac's curse broke, Yuki is still the one remaining. Poor baby, why!!!
