[Fanart] Videogame Items 01 - TES V Skyrim - Salvaged Helgen Loot   Edit : Resized the glove, it was too big in relation to the other stuff. Are you a ‘loot everything that isn’t nailed down’ or a ‘roleplay looter’ kind of player? Does this resemble your inventory coming out of Helgen or do you notice a severe lack of spider eggs in this? lmao. I’ve been trying to roleplay a lot lately with my spellsword dovahkiin. Not pictured here is the longbow and some iron arrows.
List of items in a somewhat loose order :
Health and Magicka potions.
‘Northerner Gauntlet’ - from ‘Guards Armor Replacer’ mod.
Septims.
Helgen Keep key.
Destruction Spell book for ‘Sparks.’
Iron Dagger, Sword and Axe.
Rusty Lockpicks
Frost Mirriam
Wine
Rabbit meat
Bread
Garlic
Elves Ears
This was pretty fun, I have plans to do some ‘thematic’ inventory style showcases in the future too, one for thieves, one for mages and so on... But I also have more food only stuff planned as well. These are awesome as warmups before working on bigger pieces.

What would be some spices or mixes thereof commonly used by the various races? I feel like that adds so much character to regional cuisine.
Favoured spices vary wildly from Province to Province, and even between regions! Everyone relies on some sort of spice blend to make their food more interesting, unless you're a particularly staunch and Imperial Divines worshipper. In that case, move along, we know you like bland food...
Altmer
Light flavours are key in Altmeri cooking, and their spices are simple and let the food speak for itself. Aside from standard sea salt and white pepper, the High Elves also like a blend of sesame seeds, garlic powder, shaved bonito, and dried seaweed flakes. Sprinkled atop sushi rice, this versatile topping is a must-have for Altmeri kitchens.
Argonians
Black Marsh is rich in plant life, and many of these plants can be dried and ground down to delicious spices! A blend of turmeric, ginger, finely ground chilis, and cloves is a quintessential spice blend used in many Argonian dishes, from meat and poultry to seafood and vegetables.
Bosmer
Despite the lack of plant matter used to make spices, this hasn't stopped the Wood Elves from developing their own meat-based flavourings. Combining everything from dried salty cheese, dried meat of various sorts, salt, and sometimes dried mushrooms, this mix is pounded down and mixed with water or jagga to form a salty and umami paste that is stirred into food.
Bretons
Breton food can be bland, but the region of Glenumbra specifically specialises in a lovely blend of herbs and spices for cakes and desserts. Cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, cardamom, rose petals, and dark brown sugar are ground together until fine and sprinkled into batter or drizzled atop finished desserts. Especially good with pumpkin pie!
Dunmer
Fire fern is a valued spice in Vvardenfell, and it's finely ground up and added to food much like pepper, but with a minty aftertaste. A common spice blend for Dark Elves consists of fire fern leaves, ground and dried comberry, canis root powder, and salt. Umami, spicy, and slightly bitter, this blend goes well with guar and nix-hound.
Imperials
Fennel and Battaglir aren't just tasty Cyrodiilic vegetables- they're also great in spice mixes. One household blend consists of fennel seeds, ground dried battaglir, carrot, basil, columbine, thyme, and dried chicken stock. Simple, but tasty enough.
Khajiit
The Khajiit love a punchy spice blend made from lime zest, curry leaves, smoked paprika, Prune Morel mushrooms, white and pink peppercorns, salt, and moon sugar. This blend is often served in its own little bowl to sprinkle on noodle and rice dishes at taverns and homes.
Nords
Another popular dessert spice blend is the Nord-style "pastry spice". Made from a mix of crushed snowberry raisins, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, juniper berries, and a bit of nightshade seed. Rich and fragrant, this is bound to make any pastry pop!
Orcs
Frost mirriam is an Orc's favourite herb, but it's also enjoyed when blended in with other ingredients to make a flavourful spice. Ground dried frost mirriam, allspice, paprika, sugar, chili, and tingly Reach peppercorns are any chieftain's favourite addition to food, especially red meats like ox and mammoth.
Redguards
Redguard spices are vibrant and exciting, and one of my favourite blends hails from Rihad. Made from pepper, cumin, curry, paprika, oregano, cinnamon, cloves, and whatever else one desires. As a result, this mix varies a little from household to household- some add a dash of turmeric, others cardamom!

headcanon: Skyrim wasn't always divided how we would imagine today, particularly not by falmer territories.
The Reach (modern jelhanna, solitude, & vale. druadach-wrothgar region)
diet included apple, juniper, echatere, vale deer, goat, rhubarb, grapes, gleamblossom, honey, rabbit
shared territory w/ nchuand-zel
relations w/orsinium (still honored by both sides)
Lots of trinimac-malacath worship
herding + hunting dogs used
Clothing is relatively simple. Often consisted of loose shirts, pants, boots, & belts. Was made with wool, cotton, leather, felt, & others. Ivory & bone adornments if you're really fancy.
One of my characters, Nađis, is from this region
The Broken Cape (modern winterhold, windhelm, and southeastern solstheim)
Diet included snowberry, horker, caribou, snow-cedar, boar, fish, whale, seal, mammoth, lavender, mountain flower, beets, potato, lettuce, kohlrabi, frost mirriam
Known for magic & other research
Saarthal was on the southeastern-most edge of this territory
Developed predecessor to stalhrim
Clothing had many dark coloured layers, covered by a styled sash. Decoration was rare, but made up for with rich dyes and complicated outfits
one of my characters, Faevhis, is from here
The Rift (modern riften-ivarstead, southern hjaalmarch)
Diet included lake & river fish, birch, apple, crab, lambsquarter, nirnroot, leafy vegetables, squash, propagated wildberries
dragon cult associations (elves of autumn field, forelhost)
The ruins beneath Fort Greenwall were part of this territory
Foraging for food is common, and small garden plots for spices and hard-to-find plants
Clothing often consisted of a long, loose outer robe & belt. Tight undershirts & pants were often worn beneath. Shoes were simple & easy to discard if you needed to fish something out of the river, or a similar situation. Decoration was not uncommon, usually in the form of beading or layering armour pieces over clothes.
The Plains (modern whiterun, falkreath & karthwasten)
Diet included deer, mushrooms, river grapes, wildberries, potato, cabbage, wheat, beans, mammoth, lettuce,
Nomadic, moving w/ seasons (forest in winter-spring, plains in summer-fall)
Clothes & armor inspired by wolves + foxes. Thick cloaks decorated in the image of a wolf were the centre-piece of falmeri plains fashion.
Hunting & gathering were important
The Marshes (modern solitude docks through eastern morthal)
Diet included fish, chaurus, mudcrab, apple, cabbage, tomatoes, beans, squash, melon, sheep
chaurus raising popularised
most similar to modern ideas of snow elves
crab-catching and other shallow water activities such as swimming, boating, diving
Small boats were common, but not often needed to traverse the landscape
Fashion relied on long, moderately decorated dresses & coats, an undershirt and hose, and jewellery.
Maelkias(my dragonborn) family, though she was born in windhelm
The Coast (modern dawnstar)
Diet included horker, snow-cedar, rabbit, seal, snowberry, potatoes, carrots, turnips, seaweed, mammoth, gourds, beet, frost mirriam
strong cultural ideals + values
Festivals & temples common
Activities included swimming (warmer months), ice-fishing, skating
Large port city built above and beneath land
The ice tunnels used for transport and shelter still remain
Clothing was usually simple & practical, shirt, coat, pants, boots & belt, but varied greatly in decoration. Embroidery, beading, jewellry, ornate weapons or armour pieces, and dyes were all common sights in this region.

TRUMAN CAPOTE "Mirriam"
It snowed all week. Wheels and footsteps moved soundlessly on the street, as if the business of living continued secretly behind a pale but impenetrable curtain. In the falling quiet there was no sky or earth, only snow lifting in the wind, frosting the window glass, chilling the rooms, deadening and hushing the city. At all hours it was necessary to keep a lamp lighted, and Mrs. Miller lost track of the days: Friday was no different from Saturday and on Sunday she went to the grocery: closed, of course.

Skyrim Asks
Tagged by @sheirukitriesfandom
I do love little questionnaires like this. Obviously I'm going with Wren, since she's the only Dragonborn I've played as that I've bothered to put any thought into.
Tagging @downontheupside @babyblueetbaemonster and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it! I don't really like tagging people 😂
My responses under the cut since this is a little long.
1. Favourite Tavern
There’s something about the Vilemyr Inn that holds a special place in her heart.  The innkeeper is always friendly, and the menu there has some of the best salmon dishes in Skyrim.  The scenery in Ivarstead can’t be beat, nestled at the base of the Throat of the World, overlooking the steamy Eastmarch valleys, surrounded by waterfalls and the vibrant golden trees of the Rift. It's just a perfect little inn!
2. Favourite Drink
Mead, mead, mead.  Honningbrew, Black-Briar, unlabeled bottles she finds lying around that may or may not have already had someone else’s mouths on it, all fair game.  She’s rather partial to Black-Briar Reserve, as well as spiced wine and, when she can get it, sujamma.
3. Travel Companion
Her horse, Dagon, first and foremost, as she would rather not walk all over Skyrim.  In prior years it was Lydia who accompanied Wren along her journey, but she has since moved on and now travels with Teldryn and eventually Inigo.
4. Wealthy or not?
Wren came from decades of banditry and struggled her way into the civilized world with barely a handful of coin.  After becoming Dragonborn, the gold started coming in, and due to her upbringing she held on tightly to every bit of it that she earned.  She is rather wealthy, but has her funds hidden away and only buys what she needs.
5. Worships the Aedra or the Daedra?
She doesn’t actively worship any of them, nor the Gods.  On rare occasions she will pray, but directs her prayers to all of them and hopes one will be willing to listen.
6. Biggest Fear
Losing those she cares about, and knowing that she may be unable to save them.  The possible effects of what her dragon soul may do to her in the long run.  She tries not to think about that.
Also Dwarven centurions (technology shouldn’t have that kind of power) and frost mirriam (she’s violently allergic)
7. Pet Peeves
People asking too many questions, or disregarding her abilities due to her size.
Bonus Peeve: Rolff Stone-Fist
8. Do they like being dragonborn?
At first, yes.  She loved it, the power and the status and being able to instill fear into men and dragons alike.  Something happened partway through her journey of fulfilling her destiny against Alduin which drove her to depression, and changed how she saw herself and how she fit into the world.  Eventually she was talked into moving on and doing what she was meant to do.  Now she is more or less over being the Dragonborn, and if it were possible, she would give up her gift as she believes it is what caused her fall from grace.
9. Favourite faction
Never joined any, but when she lived in Whiterun she found herself watching the warriors of Jorrvaskr practicing in the yard.  She never had the time to join, as she was focusing all of her time and energy into fighting the dragons and finding a way to stop Alduin.
10. An object of sentimental value
She has her journals that she keeps tucked away around her home, as well as another object I can’t specify since it plays a role in the story I just started writing 🤷‍♀️
11. Hobbies
When she isn’t out wandering around Skyrim, Wren likes to cozy up in her bed with one of her multitudes of books she’s stolen throughout the years.  Living on the shores of Lake Honrich makes for good fishing, which she thoroughly enjoys, as well as cooking her catches.
And, of course, drinking.
12. Favourite city
Riften!  The autumnal forests that surround the city are what drew her there in the first place, as well as the Black-Briar meadery and the view of the lake and the mountains beyond.  With salmon and honey being plentiful resources in the city, two of Wren’s favorite things, she can never see herself living anywhere else.

getting married to a famed healer meant Sondas could retired from the mines and focus on his new passion: baking. with more access to filling food and fewer calories being burned from mining, he gained weight. The weight suits him well. At the end of every day he brings whatever food he has too much of to the Warrens, as well as whatever medicines his spouse had made for them.
If you go to Markarth people will tell you that you haven't lived until you've tried Sondas Drenim's snowberry pie, you can even have it a la mode with frost mirriam and vanilla ice cream.

Geography of Skyrim: The White Plains
The White Plains is the name given to the central lowland region of Skyrim, primarily located within Whiterun Hold. These fertile, treeless plains are also known as the breadbasket of Skyrim, given the abundance of rich soil and relatively flat land found here. The crops of the region’s numerous and bounteous farms feed much of the province, and their excess is exported and traded throughout the Empire. Due to its central location, traders and travelers crossing Skyrim (as well as armies on the march) nearly always pass through the hold when crossing the country, preferring the gentle slopes of Whiterun to the more treacherous passes found in the northern holds or the bandit-laiden routes further south. To echo a common saying in the region, all roads lead to Whiterun.
A variety of crops are grown throughout the White Plains. Rye is the staple grain of Skyrim, planted in the autumn and harvested the following summer. The use of rye flour gives bread from Skyrim their its flavor and dark color. Barley, grown in large quantities, is used almost entirely for the production of beer and liquor. Buckwheat is frequently used as a cover crop to prevent weed growth during the off-season. Unique varieties of buckwheat, which are currently only cultivated in Skyrim, bloom red or pink in the spring, adding to the palette of colorful wildflowers found on the plains.
Flax is grown in the northern and western regions of Whiterun Hold. Rorikstead and its surrounding villages, particularly those along the River Hjaal, owe much of their prosperity to the cultivation of flax and the production of linen fiber. Interestingly, while tundra cotton and the thread made from it are a valuable resource for people on the White Plains, no attempt has been made to domesticate this native plant. Instead, workers (particularly children) forage the delicate white blossoms as they bloom throughout the spring and summer.
Vegetable crops make up a significant portion of Whiterun Hold’s exports. The loamy soil supports a range of plants, including potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, leeks, onions, garlic, and a wide variety of herbs, elves ear and frost mirriam being among the most popular. Livestock are also raised here - primarily cattle, as the open plains are one of the only places in Skyrim that can support herds of cattle in large numbers. Large numbers of deer are found on the plains, though hunters will also encounter wolves and the occasional sabre cat.
The White Plains is known for its horses (as suggested by their presence on the banners of Whiterun). Unlike the sleek and elegant mounts bred further south in Hammerfell, Whiterun’s horses are bred for boldness and endurance rather than speed, making them among the best war mounts in the Empire. They are also among the largest, standing between 16 and 18 hands high (only one other herd is known to this author that regularly surpasses the stature of Skyrim’s warhorses - the Orcs of Dushnikh Yal breed carthorses for moving ore that regularly exceed 19 hands. Sadly, they only trade the beasts to those they consider blood kin).
This combination of agricultural richness and central location make Whiterun Hold one of the most valuable and important holds in the province. Among the informal hierarchy of Jarls in Skyrim, the Jarl of Whiterun is nearly equivalent to the Jarls of Solitude and Eastmarch. The impressive palace of Dragonsreach in the city of Whiterun is a testament to the Jarl’s high standing.

Sorry if you’ve answered this before, but what do you think forsworn cuisine is like?
You are surprisingly the first person to ask about the food of the Reachfolk! Most people view them as wild barbarians, but they have a rich history and culture just as much as any other Tamrielic race. And like the other races, Reach cuisine is individual and full of surprises. Bear in mind that this evidence is presented from my own and other adventurers' accounts of discoveries at Reachfolk camps in Skyrim, and does not account for those on the other side of the Druadach Mountains.
Firstly, Reachfolk are subsistence hunters rather than farmers, so their food is consistently fresh and based on what is in season, unless it has been seized in raids on Nords and other travellers. You will therefore find that Reach cuisine depends on a few trusty ingredients.
Venison is the primary source of protein by Reachfolk, followed by fish from the Karth River, and wild pheasant or other birds. However, this does not deter them from eating animals like skeever in leaner times.
They season these liberally with Reach peppercorns, a tingly hot pepper, as well as frost mirriam, rock salt, honey, and juniper paste. Meat is generally roasted on a spit directly over the fire, or is shaped into patties or meatballs and cooked on a large hot stone or iron pan.
Vegetables in their diet are unlike what most other races eat. Wild flora, like nettles and dandelion greens, wild garlic and carrots, berries, and much more are just some of what traditional indigenous knowledge has passed down through generations of oral history. Nettle soup with stir-fried dandelion greens and juniper is a traditional hot soup which is enjoyed at any time of day in horn mugs.
Dessert isn't a thing per se, but Reachfolk seem to eat wild honey over sour berries, but I have not been able to glean which meal, if any, this custom is from.
Hopefully this has been somewhat enlightening, and thank you for asking about one of the most fascinating indigenous groups in Tamriel! ~Talviel

helloooo~ 👃💘🧸💐 please!
Hello there friend! *waves enthusiastically*
👃Does your OC smell good? Do they have a signature scent?
Oh, this is a very interesting question which I have never actually thought about before! (I love it!) Hm, I think what she smells like will really depend on when you catch her. Despite the common stereotype that Nords do not like to be clean or bathe, Dahlia LOVES a good, hot bath. (It’s one of the few pleasures she allows herself to indulge herself in with all the chaos happening around her.) So, for the most part, Dahlia smells clean, like the soap she is currently using. Some of her favorites are lavender, frost mirriam, and when she can get it vanilla (that has to be imported from Elsweyr).
💘 : Is your OC a very good flirt? Are they charming?
Flirting. Ooof. I wouldn’t necessarily consider that she is a very good flirt, but she does have some moves for when the time comes. ;) But, if we are talking about charm, that’s another story entirely. I’d like to think that she is rather charming when she wants to be. (*cough* And especially when she wants something from Ulfric. She has that man wrapped around her finger.) She’s a likeable person in general and loves to talk to people. As a matter of fact, if you let her, she’d talk you right to sleep with her tales of dragons, war, and rogue mages.
🧸 : Into public displays of affection or are they more reserved?
In general, Dahlia isn’t a big fan of very public displays of affection, but she doesn’t mind smaller displays like hand holding, hugs, or even a tame kiss or two. For the moment with the Civil War still going on, she likes to keep all public displays to a minimum to try to keep rumors of favoritism at bay.
💐 : What is their courting style? How would they woo someone?
Despite the fact that she is a bit dramatic and a strong personality, I would have to say that she wouldn’t go out of her way to court someone…she’d let them come to her. HOWEVER, when she is interested in someone, she is very attentive and observative. Ulfric likes history books? She brings him some from her personal collection. She notices that Ulfric was particularly interested in the dragon priests? She brings him one of their daggers. All of his quills have the ends crewed off of them? You guessed it! She brings him more. Overall, I think she just kind of worms her way into your heart by giving you little gifts, spending time with you, and listening to what you have to say. (And if she REALLY likes you, she will share one of Ilse’s famous snowberry and cheese danishes with you.)

How do your LDBs like spicy food? Yay? Nay? How spicy?
Out of my three Skyrim characters, Rethul can handle the most spiciness. Having grown up in a rich family in southeastern Cyrodiil, he's had access to things like pickled hot peppers or various imported spices and spice mixtures; he's probably had the most diverse diet out of the three.
That being said Rethul claims to tolerate more than he actually can. If put to the test, he will sit there and stoically take it even as tears stream down his cheeks.
Rashkan enjoys some spiciness in his meals but not too much. If, for example, a meal has a slightly spicy aftertaste or an underlying spiciness that doesn't drown out the other flavours, he'll be okay with it. While he doesn't claim to tolerate much spiciness, like Rethul, he wouldn't admit if something is too spicy for him. Ironically, as a vampire, he'd theoretically be able to handle more spiciness since in his undead state, he wouldn't be able to taste it.*
For Eyvindr, even flour would be too spicy. He can't stand spicy food and he'll complain if something is too spicy for him to handle - much to the annoyance of the other patrons. Eyvindr has spent all his life in Skyrim, whose cuisine has a tendency towards sweetness (so many berries and honey) rather than spiciness. The "spiciest" thing he tolerates is Frost Mirriam, which has a minty touch to it.
* I headcanon that vampires lose all sense of taste for anything other than blood, their only means of sustenance, which is why they don't snack just for the hell of it.
