I’m gonna go on a ramble for a sec and yous can tell me if I’m just being an overthinking writer slash literature nerd who’s looking too deep into things and needs to take a moment to breath or not (and yes this is about the delancey’s again I’m hyperfixated I Cannot Help It). basic point is something that bothers me is getting at people for being an ‘apologist’ without considering the perspective of the content. like obviously if they’re just outright excusing every action when talking about them then that’s a big no BUT (this particularly/almost solely goes for art and writing over general discussion) unreliable narration is going to be really prevalent here. a fic set from morris’ perspective is going to put him and oscar in a better light than the newsies, a list of hcs relating to oscar will do the same, or paint the newsies in a much worse way. purely because it’s from their perspective so the narrative will be a different side of the story from a third/first person but still direct view. which is something that’s incredibly fun and interesting to explore, but it doesn’t automatically mean the creators views align with the content they’re making (unless it’s clearly stated which is a different case). I can say as a writer who’s been posting work consistently for 6 years that constant disclaimers on stuff are exhausting and easy to forget - sometimes you just wanna get that shit out there - but the thing about being a writer/anyone who forms headcanons the way we do on here is that exploration of reasoning AND perspective. unreliable narration is the best example of this, and it’s something to think about with this whole thing I suppose. or maybe I’m looking too deep idk, I just like talking about my thoughts this was partially just self indulgence

Still thinking about that time I saw an argument for Miyao not actually being plural that included "He felt lonely during sibling day [an AOU holiday where people gather with a massive amount of their siblings from the same factory] but that doesn't make sense if he has Meow [one sister]". [Also he wasn't out as a system during that side story of course his letter is going to be simplified as "I got lonely during sibling day because I'm an only child"" for the sake of appearing as a singlet.]

an ex-zionist jewish man recently went a bit viral on tiktok for sharing exactly how he sees zionism tie israel to the jewish identity and his personal experience with breaking away from it - I think it’s a really great watch.

He also made a follow up talking specifically about how he learned to humanise Palestinians, and a really integral part of it was his school, which would often bring in Palestinian speakers who’d share their perspective (here’s a link to it).

I'm a lesbian and i see myself in media about bi women, also in media about gay/bi men. even if it's not Entirely made for me, it's still for me. and I know and hope that other gay/bi people are able to see parts of themselves in lesbian media. sorry to be cheesy but we are more similar than we are different and it's those experiences we share that draw us to these stories in the first place, and the reason we're even telling them <3

Why did no one tell me that Dracula was a fucking COMEDY.

The book opens up with Jonathan experiencing a paprika overload. Dracula pretends to be the coachman and drives Jonathan around in circles until he decides he's established enough of a dramatic atmosphere. By day three in the castle Jonathan has picked up that there are no servants and Dracula is secretly doing all the chores, including driving him there. The first time Jonathan tries to shave, the count barges into the room, yeets his mirror out the window, refuses to elaborate and leaves. Jonathan also notices that he is a prisoner in the castle but doesn't dare to bring it up, which... is a mood, but also hilarious. A week into his stay he sees his employer/kidnapper crawling facedown out a wall

I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.
