The soft sound of pages being turned occasionally was the only sound that filled the room. Your husband sat in your shared bed engrossed in the new book you’d bought for him. His hands cradle the book carefully—almost as if it were a baby—and you smile at the sight. 

Nanami’s hazel eyes lift away from the ink on the paper to your figure leaning against the door frame. He pats the spot next to him, indicating you to sit by him.

Pushing yourself off the frame you make your way on to the plush mattress and crawl towards him. Your lips press a fleeting kiss on his temple before you settle into the duvet and rest your head on his shoulder, eyes skimming over the page he was reading. 

He changes the position of the book making it easier for you to see and your heart stutters in your chest.

It was little things like his that made you love him so much more than you already did. He flips to the next page as your eyes start to close, the tiredness from the day finally catching up to you. 

The flutter, opening and closing as they please. Your body feels at ease next to Kento’s warm one. Even though you attempt to stay awake to spend a few more minutes with him your body shuts down.

Your breaths slow as you drift into dreamland. Nanami glances down and his lips quirk up when he notices you sleeping. 

Sliding the bookmark between the book he shuts and puts it away on his bedside table. Carefully and gently he moves you so you’re laying on the bed, a small noise leaves you as you try and move closer to him again, seeking him even in your sleep.

“Give me a moment my love,” he whispers, before moving off the bed to turn the light off. 

He’s only gone for a moment—like he said he would be—but you’ve already rolled over to spot. From what he can tell, you’re curled up into the fetus position and an amused huff leaves his mouth. 

Instead of waking you he goes and settles into your side of the bed. One of his arms drapes itself over your waist, while the other slides underneath you, as he pulls you closer to him. 

Feeling him so near to you, your body moves, pressing itself closer to him. Your face is now resting in the crook of his neck and your arm mimics his, placed over his waist, whilst the other one rests next to you. 

Nanami presses a gentle kiss on your forehead before he says, “Sleep well dear.” His eyes also close as he slips into his own sleep.

It's best to train you how to use a bow, he decided, just in case a situation ever occurs where you would have to defend yourself.

“Hold the bow steady.” Wind Archer gently instructed, pulling back the bowstring of his bow and watching you attempt to do the same. You focused carefully on following his every move, fixing your posture to mimic his. He nodded gently in your direction, watching your eyes light up as he acknowledged you were correctly following his actions. His head turned as he faced the target, aiming his bow with precision.

“Hold the bow lower. To hit the bullseye, you always have to aim lower and slightly to the left or right, depending on your dominant hand.” You could easily see Wind Archer’s eyes gently close and he took a deep breath. “Being calm is crucial. Panicking only leads to messy shots and potentially missing an important chance.” You took a deep breath after him, your eyes trailing to the still target around 10 yards away. You looked back at him for further instructions.

Wind Archer cookie’s scarf and hair blew gently in the breeze, his movements fluid and completely at ease. You were almost too busy admiring him but snapped out of it when he let go of the bowstring. The arrow detached from the bow, cutting through the air rapidly. The arrow glowed and glittered green, and you watched it find its way to the center of the target. A bullseye.

You awed silently as your eyes were fixed onto the arrow that was perfectly lodged in the dead center of the target. After a few seconds, the arrow vanished into a green glow, appearing back into the quiver of arrows hung on his back. He glanced at you, nodding his head. “Give it a try.”

You blinked up at him, before looking towards your target. You did your best to copy his technique. You straightened your back, aiming the bow and holding the arrow resting on the bowstring close to your face. You looked through the sight window, gently biting your tongue as you concentrated. Once you felt satisfied with the position of the bow, you relaxed your hand, and watched the wooden arrow propel forward and land into the inner blue circle on the target. A 6.

“Not bad for a first try. Quite impressive, actually.” Wind Archer remarked. He could feel your gaze on him, causing him to glance over to see your proud wide smile and wide bright eyes from his praise. He patted your shoulder, his eyes softening. “With enough practice, you’ll be able to hit bullseyes with your eyes closed. If you’re willing to keep practicing-”

He stopped himself when you noticed you already began to load the next wooden arrow, eager to keep practicing with him. You swear you saw his mouth spread into a small smile at your motivation from the corner of your eye, but it was gone as quickly as it came.

“Very well then. Let’s continue.”

secondly, abt the hypocrisy, i am just doing my job by addressing this matter as best as i can. As for those ppl, i can't stop them from doing that. The clock counted down faster than it ever had. The minutes slipped between your fingers faster than water. You waited with a look of acceptance on your face, phone clenched tightly in your shaking fist. The tears that had rolled down your cheeks while you were talking to your family had become dry. 

Sae walked out from your shared bedroom and sat next to you on the couch. A deadly silence spread between you both. 

Uncharacteristically, Sae was the first to speak, “Y/n.” It was a hushed whisper of your name, making it almost seem like if he spoke any louder the world would end sooner. 

You looked over at your lover and your eyes welled up all over again. With shaking hands you reached out and touched his face, making sure he was still there with you. 

“Sae,” you say with quivering lips. 

He leans into your touch and for a moment everything seems alright again. 

Then all of a sudden, everything hits you at once again. In just a few moments nothing would exist. You and Sae would not be here. 

No one would be. 

“I love you Sae,” you say, before pressing a light kiss on the tip of his nose like you always did before a big event. 

He sucks in a sharp breath. “I love you too,” he says, returning the kiss with one of his own. 

Sae looks into your eyes before reaching for something in his pocket. He slides out a velvet box and you look at him wide-eyed. “What is that?” you question. 

Instead of answering he moves off the couch before getting down on his left knee and the tears finally slip. “I was supposed to do this later this year,” he confesses. 

“Will you marry me, Y/n?” he asks, opening the lid on the box. Inside sparkles the most beautiful ring you’ve seen. 

You throw yourself into his arms repeating “yes yes yes yes yes” a million times over and Sae feels his heart swell with too many emotions. He holds you tight by the waist and finally lets his own tears soak your shirt. 

When the two of you finally pull back he slips the ring onto your finger and it sits there snug and perfectly. 

A sad, yet joyful smile makes its way onto your face as you imagine how different your life could've been. Moving your eyes away from the new possession, you look at your fiancé and say something so ridiculous. “Promise me that we’ll find each other somehow, somewhere if we can.”

“I promise,” he agrees, before closing the gap between you two. 

The kiss is soft: full of unspoken things, a bit salty, yet to you it’s as perfect as it could be. The two of you pull back for a moment to catch your breath and take the time to imprint the other’s face in your mind. 

You truly believed that if soulmates existed, Sae Itoshi was yours. And he knew you were his.

Wiping your tears, you lean in for the last time as Sae embraces you. Your lips locked together as the moon draws closer and closer to the Earth. 

It was the end of the world, but it would never be the end of your love. That thought comforted you as you closed your eyes, imagining that everything was alright.

It’s raining outside.

Satoru is sitting on the bed you both share, scrolling through his phone when he hears the pitter patter of it hitting the window. He perks up knowing that any second now you would come in to cuddle him. 

And he’s right, because not even thirty seconds later you’re coming in and climbing onto the bed. Gojo puts his phone away, opening his arms so you could take your place between them.

No words are exchanged because they didn’t need to be.

Everytime it would rain you would do this, since according to you cuddling when it was raining was perfect. Your boyfriend couldn’t agree more. 

Your arms are wrapped around his torso, head resting on his chest listening to the rhythmic beating of his heart. One of his arms is resting on your back while the other is cradling your head. 

The weather outside cools everything down making you shiver slightly. When you move away from Satoru’s arms he lets out a whine of your name. Just as quickly as you move, you reach for the blanket at the foot of your bed before going back into his embrace. 

A sigh of contentment leaves your lips at the warmth and comfort surrounding you. You nuzzle your head into his chest before placing a soft kiss there. Gojo leans down to place one on top of your head. 

“I love you, Turo,” you mumble, sleep lacing your words.

“I love you too, baby,” he whispers, a small smile on his face.

When your breathing evens out Gojo allows his eyes to rest as well. But before he can head to sleep he hears you ask him something from your dreams. 

“Do you ever wish we weren’t sorcerers?” 

A small laugh leaves his pretty lips at that, but he doesn’t answer your question. Sleep overtakes his body before he could think it through. 

When Satoru wakes up from his sleep his hands feel around your body. He lets out a groan when he doesn’t find you letting out a call of your name. There's a pitter patter of something on his window.

It’s raining outside. 

And Gojo waits for you to come into the room you both shared even though he knows you won’t.

You couldn’t. 

Because you left him and everyone three years ago when you were fighting a curse. And he remembers the question you had asked him the last time he held you. “Do you ever wish we weren’t sorcerers?” 

He has the answer now and it’s yes. Because if you weren’t sorcerers you would still be there in his arms instead of wherever people went when they died. If you both weren’t sorcerers then Satoru wouldn’t have to cry himself to sleep every night, even though it’s been three years. 

It’s raining outside and no words are exchanged because you aren’t here anymore.

Maybe Chigiri should’ve seen it coming. 

Maybe if he paid more attention to the signs he could’ve. 

He could’ve known that he would never be more than the second best to you. That he was just a replacement for the love that you couldn’t keep. That when you kiss him it was with someone else in mind. 

The signs were there, but Chigiri was too blinded by love to see them. It was in the way you’d always walk a little further from him, either a step in the front or behind, never at his side. Or how you’d look at him with a look of longing in your eyes. Even though you had him. 

Then there was that album in your phone, the one that you would sometimes look at but he was never allowed to even touch. And how you’d sometimes have someone else’s name on your lips when you were sleeping or had a bit too much to drink.

Maybe the most obvious sign should’ve been how you never agreed to make it official. 

Chigiri’s friends warned him. They told him not to be with you, but he was just too in love. 

Perhaps he did notice the signs and chose to ignore them. 

Now as he watches you give him back the gifts he got for you, he’s sure he did ignore them. He let you hold him tight while you had someone else in mind. He let you dance with him in midsummer while you imagined a different man swaying with you. 

Because to him you were worth getting hurt over. The moments when you were sleeping peacefully and he could admire your features and pretend that you were his were enough for him.

But as you say, “I can’t be the one for you Hyoma. You deserve better than me. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” He feels his heart being torn in two. 

And you turn your back to him fleeing through the door while he was left there alone with hot tears running down his face. The warmth of your presence has left along with you through the door. 

He stays standing there trying to grasp everything that happened but he’s just so tired. 

All he can do now is hope that he can forget you. 

Because you were everything for him, but for you he was just the second best.
