No matter how many times you told yourself you were only going into the pet store for one thing, you always found yourself with a cart full of items. All you needed was kitty litter; yet here you were, browsing the treat aisle. 

You were comparing Friskies flavors when you felt a tap on your shoulder. Assuming you were in the way, you stepped out of the way to give the person some room. 

“No, I, uh…” A bashful voice caught your attention. You glanced over your shoulder, a small bag of treats in each hand, and saw a man about your age. His hand, a ring on each finger, was delicately curled around a tiny black kitten. 

Your face lit up the way it only ever did when you saw a cute animal. “Oh my God,” you cooed. “Look at that precious baby!”

The guy laughed nervously. “I found her sleeping on one of my tires. Well, I heard her, actually. She was purring up a storm.” 

“Must’ve been having a good dream.” You held your hand out and let the kitten sniff it before you scratched under her chin. “There was no mama cat around?”

“Nope.” He shook his head, his frizzy curls brushing his clean-shaved cheeks. “Just my little friend here.” 

Clearing his throat, he continued. “Anyway, I called the local vet, but they don’t have any available appointments until next week. I have no idea what to feed her.” He gestured to the treats in your hand. “What do you feed your cat?”

“I have three cats, actually,” you admitted. “My cat Rosie is older, so she has this special senior food. My two younger cats just eat Purina. But they all get a mix of wet and dry.”

The guy’s face fell a bit, clearly overwhelmed by all of the information. “Hold on…there’s wet and dry?” He glanced down at the kitten. “I might be a bit in over my head here, buddy.”

“It’s okay.” You offered him a reassuring smile. “I can help.”

“Thank you.” His shoulders sagged with relief. “I’m Eddie, by the way.”

You introduced yourself, then gestured to the kitten snuggled into his chest. “Does she have a name?”

“Not yet,” Eddie said. “I’ve been tossing around some ideas, but none seem to fit, y’know?”

“I get it. You want to make sure it’s perfect.”

The cat meowed in agreement, and neither you nor Eddie could hide your amusement. Both of you burst into laughter, right there in the pet store. 

“She’ll need toys, too. Otherwise she will get bored, and she will use you as a scratching post.”

Eddie winced as though he could already feel her sharp claws in his skin. “That is…definitely good to know.” His eyes scanned the other aisles. “And I can’t forget the litter box.” He wrinkled his nose. “Do cats know how to use that, like, automatically? Or do I have to teach her?”

“Not automatic, unfortunately. But it’s nothing more than a little training.” And a few instances of stepping in cat poop, you silently added. 

Eddie paused for a moment, his teeth scraping over his lower lip. “What about friends?” When you quirked up an eyebrow in confusion, he elaborated. “Like, is it good for her to have other cat friends? Because if it is, maybe we should arrange a little, I dunno, cat playdate for them or something?”

Your smile was so wide that it might have fallen off of your face. “That sounds absolutely adorable.” Pulling a pen from your bag, you scrawled your phone number on his forearm. As much as you wanted to stick around and spend more time together, you needed to get home and feed your very impatient cats. “See you around, Eddie. And you, too, Kitten-Yet-To-Be-Named.”

As you headed to the cash register, you couldn’t help but overhear Eddie whispering to his new pet, “I think I’m going to have to name you ‘Cupid,’ you little matchmaker.”

Cats & dogs!

I already made one big change for the cats - got them back on a 2/3 wet food diet. I had switched to kibble only again for a while due to being overwhelmed and needing things to be simpler. But they both gained weight, especially Shilo, so I got us back on the horse. It's been a couple months now I think? And they've already both lost weight & look much better, so I'm pleased.

They get dry food in the mornings for ease before work, then wet food when I get home & again before bed. It seems to be working well! Though they're still picky assholes and won't eat pate food. They're currently getting Friskies, Fancy Feast, American Journey, and Nulo, and get Purina One for kibble. Seems to be working!

I do want to try adding some hanging planters to the run for them as well, for different edible plants. I'll probably just start with a couple and see if it'll work - I think there's a heavy risk of Spring peeing on them, sigh. I still want to add shelves to the run for them as well, but that may wait for now - the next major run renovation I want to do is switching to solid plastic roof panels instead of the mesh fencing we have now.

I'm forever trying to get myself into a better routine for training & exercise with the dogs. It's a constant struggle tbh, but I keep working on it, making plans, making different plans, and trying again.

One big thing I want to work on this year, is make a platform or something to use as a cooperative care station. It'll be slow going, but I want to start giving them the option to work with me on it in the evenings. I'm hoping to increase the range of handling I can do with Emma, with a bonus of less stressful handling to check body parts, do nails, etc, for the other two as well. I'd really like to do more with Spring's poor teeth, so this would really help towards that.

I'm also considering making a more permanent potty station, similar to a litter box, for the chihuahuas to use in the garage. But that's still very much just an idea & needs more planning to see if I can make what I have in mind, if it'll fit, how easy it will be to maintain, if they'll even use it, and how much it'll cost. So we'll see!

Sometimes Confused

Enya is a bag of cats. Like...wet ones. Do they want out of the bag or are they trying to get dry or food or just to meow at you or???? Deciphering Enya's behaviors can be a little difficult at times for Devang. Which is kind of impressive considering Devang's skills, experience, and hyper vigilance in social situations. She does her best.

Semi-Patient

Devang's more aware that Enya might have some kind of brain damage or personality disorders (certainly C-PTSD) than she was at the start. Makes her more inclined to take the venom and vitriol with a bit more patience. She's far from perfect, but man--Devang's more mellow these days in general. Seems a little counter-productive to everyone involved if she plays to Enya's sporadic need to create violent chaos immediately every time it happens.

Mum and the Cats

Let me start this with a question. Have you ever seen someone traumatize 97 cats at once? This happened when I was younger - probably around y’alls age. It was just after the 4th of July, around the year of '98, we had a massive dry spell hit the area. The dirt was so dry water would just sit on top of it, the grass was brown, the dirt was little more than brown dust, the air was brown… you get the picture. I still swear that had the deities not set the humidity to "make it feel like they're underwater", the heat itself would have set fire to the area. This is what's called the dog days of summer - the worst part to deal with if you need to be outside for any real length of time. And, on a farm, you've gotta be outside often, and for hours at a time. We've had to double the amount of water we're giving the animals. The cows aren't too bad, the four water troughs we had kept the load spread out enough that they never went thirsty. The cats, on the other hand, were a different story. We weren't lucky enough to have a stream, or creek, (pronounced 'crick'), on our property, so every drop of water had to come from a spigot and water hose located just in front of Dad's shed. With this in mind, we're having to water the animals and cats as well - by this point, we've got 97 feral cats that live on our 8 acres with us, and nary a rodent to be found in at least a five mile radius. (Cats are awesome like that). So, we're feeding the cows and watering them and the cats at dawn, and giving the cats a second meal and topping off their water dishes at around 5pm. Why 5pm, you ask? Well, back in the day when I was young, 5pm was when it started to cool off outside, and that's when the cats would begin to congregate for their evening performance of 'Cats: the Musical', where they would join in with the crickets and cicadas, yowling and screeching along with them until dawn. Unless, of course, we fed them. Cats truly are intelligent beings. Anyway... Part of making sure the cats were hydrated was switching up their food - mostly by adding in more wet food. We could've just mixed water with their dry food, (and we did,) until we realized that not only did wet Meow Mix makes better spackle and grout than just about anything we could find in stores, but the cats flat out refused to eat it. After many an attempt to get the cats to eat the paste (which they hated), and more than a few destroyed bowls, we gave up and switched to the small cans of wet cat food - kinda like the Friskies you can get today, but the much, much cheaper version, since farms cost a lot to run and we didn't have alot of extra cash just lying around. So we've added the wet food, Kiy and her colony have taken to it like a fish to water, and they're happy and healthy as a horse. So are the 80 some others - well, what of them we could catch were, anyway.  So it's a weekday, the day has been clear and hot, not a cloud in sight yet again, and it's now around 5pm. Evening feeding time. My brother and I were just coming back in from checking something - I believe we were checking the fruit trees that day, to see what was ripe and bring it in to be canned - anyway, Mum decides she's gonna feed the cats since we’re busy. Something to note about this woman: she stands 5 foot stone, and is so slim that a stiff breeze would blow her away. She also has… how do I word this.. She has bad luck when it comes to thinking. You'll notice this more as the stories go on.

She tells me later that she's on the back porch with these cans of wet cat food, and the cats are completely ignoring her - like she wasn't even there. She spots this cat - Foggy Wanderer was her name. Foggy was solid white, except for her tail and ears, which were covered in splotches of brown and black. (I’ll explain how she got her name in another story.) So Mum spots Foggy sitting on the fence rail grooming herself, and she gets this idea. (This is never a good thing.) Back to my bro and I - we're sitting beneath a tree next to the house when there's a rumbling like thunder, and the world goes quiet. For what feels like an eternity, (but was probably only a couple of seconds,) we stare in abject horror toward the house. I ask my brother what it could have been, and he shrugs. "No idea." The words had no more than left his mouth when a flood of fur and terror pours off the porch, ears laid back, and these cats. Are. Booking it. I mean, I've seen Nascar races that were slower than those cats. Minutes pass like hours as 97 cats stampede away from the porch, kicking up a cloud of dust in their wake. The last one off the porch, Foggy, leapt gracelessly off the porch and, after almost landing on her face, tried to go in three directions at once, as if trying to invert herself out of existence. She manages to squeeze herself under the porch after a few moments, and the dust begins to settle. The sound of coughing is the only sound as we stare in abject horror, waiting with bated breath for whatever had spooked that many cats. Mum staggers around the corner, arms outstretched, a can of wet cat food clutched in each hand. She lets out another cough, spots Kiy, who had decided to run to us for protection, and screams "Eat me! Eat me!" while waving the cans in front of her like a madwoman. Needless to say, Kiy booked it, racing around the corner of the house opposite Mum and disappearing. Mum stumbles forward, stops, looks at us and, in the most humble and sorrowful voice, says "I don't think they're hungry."

But he send you another huge grin before he kisses you again-

Flavor: Cinnamon

Bakugo has ben practically forcing you to wake up at ungodly hours with him to train

He says its cause “youre getting weak” but really he’s a total simp for having such close contact with you

Also he’s a little brat and put his all into it  so you cant ever beat him, which boosts his ego for some reason?

“Hah, that really the best you got?” he scoffs down at you, his calloused hands pinning you to the ground as his body cages you in for the umpteenth time

Honestly, its hard to fight when your 1) annoyed about loosing and 2) have your hot as hell boyfriend pining you to the ground

But thankfully

THANKFULLY

He was starting to overheat, his breathe coming out in low pants as  strands  of hair began sticking to his forehead

You felt one of his palms begin to slip ever so slightly near you, and on instinct you knew you had to do something, you finally had an opening-

so you caused a distraction 

Your hands quickly flew to the nape of his neck, pressing his head down to your so you could kiss him square on the lips

Bakugo was completely confused in the best way possible- he didnt expect that to happen, but hell, hes not complaining-

until his lips start to tingle

“-the hell?!” he sputters out, his mind trying to figure out what was going on just before you successfuly flip him over, with you now on top

You stared down triumphantly at your boyfriend, not knowing how well that worked- until you noticed how shiny Bakugo lips look

He begins mashing his lips together, trying to rub it off since you had his hands pinned down

“The hell is on my lips? Agh, dont tell me its that weird ass lip stuff that supposed to make your lips bigger or something-’’

Ummmmm how does he know about lip plumping lip gloss? Question for a another day-

“Its chapstick silly,” you giggle, “-cinnamon”

Honestly, he’s gonna like it-this boy likes spicy things and the fact that “spicy” sensation came from his s/o....shoooottttt he is in love

But

Of course

He’s gonna act like it’s wierd or something, cause HES wierd

“Cinnamon? You couldn’t get something normal like cherry or grape?”

You scrunch up your nose, cause yeah your not for those flavors AT ALL, and Bakugo finds his chance

He quickly flips you over, your back now against the floor and his body on top of yours

“Cmon, baka don’t tell me thats seriosuly all you got-“

Don’t remind him that you were able to flip him over tho he’ll turn red and tell you to shut it

The sound of falling snow, some neighbor kids playing in it, and Ivy purring.

She is baby. She tries to suckle my sweater while she makes biscuits and just snuggles. No problems carrying her but she growls when I pick her up off my lap.

I have this odd foam cushion thing I got from Gigabyte's Cat Claws subscription some years back. It's an indoor / outdoor self cooling /heating thing. Gig doesn't care for it. That's on the lawn chair. I set Ivy on it and covered her with the dry blanket. She watched snow then fell asleep.

Before this, I noticed the heating pads were off. I freaked out a bit. Not sure what happened but I was able to turn them back on. She got frisky and I had her burn off some energy with the wand worm toy.

Unfriendly sat with her for a bit too. She got some very watery wet food at 5 pm. (The cold dehydrates you). She ate most of it and then went into her house while I was arranging the heating pad that was in the tote onto the chair.

I put the Boy's share in the other matching shelter. I did the same with breakfast and she ate it. 😂

Still no sign of him around here. No posts on the FB group either
