I’m not getting to take my new furbaby home today after all.

I had taken the afternoon off (and tomorrow, for different reasons), to take him home and spend time bonding, and literally as I was out the door from work I got a message from the breeder saying that she was afraid he had an infection. So she’s going to keep him a few more days to make sure he’s okay, and if he needs medicine it will be another 2-3 weeks before I can take him home.

I am disproportionately sad about this. Like, I cried a little bit. I had been counting down the hours until I got to take him home. I was really, really looking forward to having basically 24 hours to play with and bond with a new little creature.

I think part of it’s because I’m still mourning Blueberry. I really didn’t expect such visceral disappointment at a momentary delay. I shocked myself with my feelings, and I tried to stuff them down at first, but now I decided to just let myself feel them.

I just...I really like having small pets. They make my life much better. My adult rats are lovely, of course. Goose and Cocoa have both been very cuddly lately and curling up in my shirt or on my arm for hours in the evening while I play on the computer or watch anime. But I really wanted a baby. Holding a creature that small and tiny just releases a lot of endorphins for me. Call it misplaced maternal instincts or whatever. If I had my own place, I would get some pet mice again, because they fulfill that urge in me too. But pet mice smell bad, much worse than rats, and I don’t want to subject my housemate to that. Eventually I’ll have my own place again and I can have all the stinky pets I want, but for now I’m trying to be courteous.

I’m just sad. Again. Some more. I’ll get over it. I have three days off, and I’m going to spend most of it hanging out and playing board games with my nerd friends at our annual retreat (we call it FriendCon). Also, since I had the afternoon off, I went and saw Lego Movie 2, and that helped a bit. I also went shopping for FriendCon and bought lots of candy and snacks and food we’ll be eating this weekend.

Bah. Never mind me. I just needed to vent again. Thanks for reading this, if you did.

Katsucon went by too fast and wow I really wish there was another day ;A; this year was just one big ole’ Friendcon. tried to do a few shoots but every shoot I went to was either disorganized or crazy packed, so instead we all ran around in our cosplays dorking around like pros. I even got to meet and hug the cutest ladybug @aka-s-mel for the first time and !!!! still can’t believe that happened! you are the sweetest and we need to hang out real soon!

Not to be Sappy On Main but in the lead up to friendcon I was like “oh god what if I’m ANNOYING what if they end up HATING ME and then about ten seconds after we all met up that anxiety just VANISHED 🥺

Over the years I’ve been gifted with a number of…not very good friendships….which kinda color my experiences of hanging out with people (it mostly just leads to the above anxiety) but it was SO NICE to not have to worry about that for once

I know CRX just ended, but I’m super excited for Krakencon at the end of the month. A lot of us artists there are grandfathered in, so a lot of them are people I’ve known for years now. Some of them I only see once a year if even, and I’m always happy, even if it’s only for a quick “how are things?”

Even if it doesn’t turn a huge profit so close to CRX, Kraken is Friendcon to me.

But it’s not just the artists--I love seeing you guys who continue to follow me, visit my booth, and talk about things. The people I meet are the best part of conventions.
