Friday the 13th: Part III (Friday the 13th Part 3: 3D, 1982)
"Goddamnit, Shelly, why do you always have to be such an asshole?"
"Sorry. And I'm not an asshole, I'm an actor."
"Same thing."

🎃HALLOWEEN LIST 2023🎃
I re-watched Friday The 13th Part 3 (1982)
Since I started this list with the original Halloween and the creation of Michael Myers, I figured I'd watch the film that made Jason Vorhees the killer we all know today. That film is the third film in the Friday the 13th series.
Jason Vorhees, King of mommy issues, returns to kill a bunch of unsuspecting people at a lake house.
If you don't know already, the original Friday the 13th movie barely features Jason. He's not the killer. In the second film, Jason is the killer, but dons a simple bag over his head. It wasn't until this film, originally released in 3D by the way, that Jason put on his trademark hockey mask and became a truly iconic horror character.
The Friday the 13th series is the mother of all 1980's slashers. Yes, Halloween and others came before it, but Friday the 13th really developed the tropes and cliches that would run through the genre. The gore, the pointless stories, the heightened poorly acted characters, pure summer camp/wilderness horror.
Now that's not to say it's a necessarily good series. They're cheap movies with nothing else in mind than gore and sex. They can certainly be fun, but if you've seen one you've kind of seen them all. Personally, I'm more of a big fan of the concept and character than the movies themselves.
Part 3 is nothing more than a pointless sequel, meant to cash in on the 3D craze of the 1980's and the success of the first two Friday the 13th movies. The characters are terrible, the story is non-existent, the whole thing is an endless spew of nothingness. At one point a character just drops a yoyo at the camera, simply to show off the 3D effect. It's 30 seconds of dead space, especially when viewed in 2D.
But, maybe it's nostalgia, or just the absolute simplicity of not having to pay too close attention, but I did have a fine time watching this. I laughed more than I thought I would and honestly SOME of the shots weren't bad, despite the need to film for 3D. (others, not so much.) It's an okay "So bad it's good" movie and this series has worse movies in it.
The lead Girls Oak Tree story is an absolute highlight of bad writing. I loved it, in all it's awfulness.

From the minute we got here, I've been seeing things and hearing things. It's probably just my imagination... I shouldn't have come back here so soon.
