★ Yash Raj Films delays Tiger vs Pathaan; Shah Rukh Khan-Salman Khan starrer will go on floors only in 2025 and release in 2026!
Nov 30, 2023
Things definitely didn't shape up as well as expected for Aditya Chopra with the Salman Khan led Tiger 3. While the content got mixed feedback from the audience, the industry is also buzzing with chatter around how a conventional Friday release would have benefited the business by pushing the film to Tiger Zinda Hai number. It's Salman Khan's fan following and the franchise value that has taken the film to a lifetime collection of around Rs. 280 crores, getting it a clean hit tag.
And now, Bollywood Hungama has got news that would create a stir in the industry and shock waves on the social media. Highly placed sources have confirmed that Aditya Chopra has delayed Tiger vs Pathaan shoot. "Tiger vs Pathaan was to start in March 2024, but Aditya Chopra has decided to personally take time to rework on the script and serve the audience with better content. Once Siddharth Anand is done with Fighter post production, Adi will sit down with his director to improve the version of what has been written," a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.
The source added that Aditya Chopra wants to put all his focus on the Tiger vs Pathaan script as the idea is to reintroduce Tiger to the audience at its ferocious best. "Tiger is the most senior spy of the YRF Universe and the idea is to present it in a way that takes audiences on a ride. Aditya Chopra knows that the expectations will be off the roof in the audience for the face off of Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in Tiger vs Pathaan. There is no room for compromise and all the energies are invested to better the film," the trade source added.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan also had a discussion with Aditya Chopra recently, and conveyed his thoughts on the potential to improve the writing of Tiger vs Pathaan. "Shah Rukh considers the YRF Universe to be close to his heart as Pathaan played a role in introducing his action image. He told Adi that he stands by his side and will be ready to shoot the film whenever Adi is ready with the script. Salman is also on the same page, and hence green lit the shoot timelines for Karan Johar's film from February 2024. Shah Rukh Khan in the meantime will be shooting for The King from January."
It's a consensual decision taken by the top 3 industry giants, in an attempt to provide a world class cinematic experience to their audiences. Tiger vs Pathaan will now go on floors in 2025 and is likely to release in the year 2026.

Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai Box Office Collection: 19th Day
Salman Khan Tiger Zinda Hai keeps on winning a decent amount of cash even in its third week. The film is still managing to pull in crowd to the theatres, taking its total Box Office collection to Rs 314.44 crore by Tuesday. In spite of the fact that there is no huge release until the last week of January, TZH is expected to slow down in the movie halls since its intended audience have already watched the film. Passionate Bhai fans could never miss his film, and that may be made Tubelight not such a disaster, but rather the overwhelming blend of action, romance and high-octane stunts that Tiger Zinda Hai gives has a relatively general audience and that is the reason the film has been such a generous success in the Box Office.
Day by day Box Office Collection of Tiger Zinda Hai:
Day 1 - Friday (Dec 22) - Rs 34.10 crore
Day 2 - Saturday (Dec 23) - Rs 35.30 crore
Day 3 - Sunday (Dec 24) - Rs 45.53 crore
Day 4 - Monday (Dec 25) - Rs 36.54 crore
Day 5 - Tuesday (Dec 26) - Rs 21 .60 crore
Day 6- Wednesday (Dec 27)- Rs 17.55 crore
Day 7- Thursday (Dec 28)- Rs. 15.42 crore
Day 8 - Friday (Dec 29) - Rs 11.56 crore
Day 9 - Saturday (Dec 30) - Rs 14.92 crore
Day 10- Sunday (Dec 31 )- Rs 22.23 crore
Day 11 - Monday (January 1)- Rs 18.04 crore
Day 12 - Tuesday (January 2) - Rs 7.83 crore
Day 13 - Wednesday (January 3)- Rs 5.84 crore
Day 14 - Thursday (January 4) - Rs 5.09 crore
Day 15 - Friday (January 5) - Rs 3.72 crore
Day 16 - Saturday (January 6) - Rs 5.62 crore
Day 17 - Sunday (January 7) - Rs 8.27 crore
Day 18 - Monday (January 8) - Rs 4 crore
Day 19 – Tuesday (January 9) – Rs 2.50 crore
Total: Rs 314.23 crore
In any case, even the most diehard Bhai fans have a limit. This is the reason after a specific time; even blockbusters like Tiger Zinda Hai are eliminated by theatre proprietors. It is in theatres in light of the fact that there is still audience watching the film.
As indicated by critics, the film will cross the business of `Bajrangi Bhaijaan` today and the film is likewise shutting on in the Rs 100 crore net mark in Mumbai which ought to be accomplished before the end of the fourth weekend

★ Salman Khan kicks off Bigg Boss 12!
Aug 11, 2018,
Salman Khan, who has been busy wrapping up his gameshow Dus Ka Dumdaar Weekend, kicked off the shoot of Bigg Boss last weekend. The reality show is returning with its 12th season. Since the theme is jodis, the 52-year-old host revisited some iconic film jodis. The show will air from September 16. “The channel wanted to announce the theme in an interesting way and he incorporated some of his signature dance moves from popular hits. With the cameras rolling, Salman made an impromptu inclusion of his famous “Jawaani Phir Na Aye” towel step from Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and went on to add the Dabbang hook step. He even hummed his current favourite, “Dil Diyan Gallan,” from Tiger Zinda Hai,” informed a source from the set which was plastered with posters of the Anil Kapoor-Jackie Shroff-starrer Ram Lakhan, his own pairing with Shah Rukh Khan in Karan Arjun, Hema Malini’s dual turn as Seeta and Geeta and Sholay’s Jai and Veeru. The show’s new season aims to break the stereotype of husband-wife, boyfriend-girlfriend, often associated with jodis,by suffixing it with ‘Vichitra’. The inmates of the house will be related to one another, be it saas-bahu, uncle and nephew, boss and employee. Like always, there will be a mix of celebs and commoners and it will be shot in Lonavala. Mirror had earlier reported (July 25) that the makers are targetting a mid-September premiere. Bigg Boss has been returning to TV in October for the last three seasons. The finale is expected to be in December-end. Salman has hosted nine seasons. The first one was ‘circuited’ off by Arshad Warsi, with Shilpa Shetty taking over in season two. ★ Why Salman Khan Is Unstoppable!
28 JUNE 2018 GIRIDHAR JHA
Salman Khan is running no race, he’s riding high on pure stardom. Content be damned.
#Law and order under the Modi government has gone for a toss. I put two tickets of Race 3 in my car. Some idiots broke the window and left two more.
A surfeit of tweets—some hilarious, others acerbic—has swamped social media of late, cocking a snook at Salman Khan’s latest outing, Race 3, as ‘the biggest bore of the decade’ and ‘a sure-shot cure for the insomniacs’. This year’s much-vaunted Eid release has been mauled just as savagely by film critics, a few of them trashing it as simply insufferable.
Worse still, the film has made it to the IMDb list of ‘lowest-rated movies’ where it shares the dubious distinction with the likes of Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007), The Legend of Drona (2008), Tees Maar Khan (2010), Himmatwala (2013), Humshakals (2014) and Kya Kool Hain Hum 3(2016)—all unmitigated disasters of our times.
In fact, some of Salman’s die-hard followers appear to be so disappointed with this movie that they have, for once, asked him not to take them for granted. ““Bhai,, don’t do films like Race 3,” a distraught fan tweeted in anguish after seeing the film. “It is not up to your standard.”
Under the best of circumstances, such reactions ought to have set off the alarm bells for a lesser star, but not the reigning monarch of B-town. Far from it, Bhai, as Salman is affectionately called, is having the last chuckle—he’s laughing out loud all the way to the bank. Remo D’Souza’s directorial venture has already crossed a commercial milestone, having notched up more than Rs 160 crore in India and Rs 250 crore worldwide in just about ten days. Quite an achievement for a film pilloried for its tacky plot, sloppy direction and deadpan acting!
But then, in an industry where stars are made and maimed every Friday, nothing matters more than what a movie ultimately earns at the ticket window. Race 3 may have been dismissed as a veritable affront to the aesthetic sense and sensibility by many a connoisseur of good cinema, but its box-office figures have only underlined the enduring mass appeal of the 52-year-old warhorse, who remains a darling of the dress circle regardless of his receding hairline and protracted court cases.
But why is a star with unexceptional histrionic prowess still so popular with the masses? What are the factors that have sustained him as an alchemist at the cash counters? Ali Abbas Zafar, director of two of Salman’s recent blockbusters, Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), puts it conclusively: “It is very important for a superstar to connect, communicate and maintain a relationship with his audiences through his films. I think the audiences see absolute honesty in the way he leads his personal life, as also in the way he portrays his roles,” Zafar tells Outlook. “It invariably touches a chord with the audiences who flock to the theatres to watch his films over and over again. It’s a factor that simply cannot be defined.”
Zafar, now at the helm of Salman’s next, Bharat, believes every movie has its own journey and destiny as far as commercial success is concerned. “We cannot measure it against the superstardom of an actor. While making a movie, nobody knows whether it will click or not,” he says. “It is something indescribable.”
The young auteur thinks that he is fortunate to have worked with as big a superstar as Salman at the outset of his career. “As a director, it is absolutely essential to highlight the USP of a big star in the best possible way,” he says. “You have to develop the character in sync with the superstardom.”
Zafar avers that the audiences are disappointed only when they find a star’s stardom putting his character in the shade. “But if the character and the stardom complement each other, as they did in Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), then it creates pure magic,” he states.
Noted scriptwriter Rajat Arora considers Salman’s loyal fan base to be the biggest factor behind his success. “What is remarkable is that people from all age groups, from kids to elderly people, like him. In fact, the release of his movie is a celebration of sorts of the star, idolised by his legions of followers.”
Arora, who scripted the Salman blockbuster Kick (2014), says that is why nine of his movies have done business of more than Rs 100 crore while four others crossed the Rs 200-300-crore mark. “He has really worked hard over the years to maintain his stardom. He simply gives to his audiences what they really like to see.”
Figures, of course, don’t lie. Salman has had an unparalleled run in the past decade or so. Since Dabangg (2010), his 13 consecutive movies have minted more than Rs 100 crore, a figure considered to be the benchmark for a Bollywood blockbuster. Only a couple of them, such as Jai Ho (2014) and Tubelight (2017), are considered flops. But that is because of their high production costs; otherwise they too made it to the elite 100 crore club effortlessly.
Curiously, all this has happened despite Salman’s apparently cavalier attitude towards his career. At a time when his illustrious contemporaries—Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan, the other two of the holy tinsel town trinity—are constantly striving for content-driven cinema, commensurate with their expertise and experience, the youngest of the three 1965-born Khans functions within his own world, relying more on his popularity than the script of his movie. More often than not, he takes up a project purely for emotional reasons and shows no qualms in helping out his family members and friends in bolstering their careers. From Sonakshi Sinha in Dabangg to Athiya Shetty and Suraj Pancholi in Hero (2015), many star kids owe their launches to him. As for Race 3, he has gone a step further, as its entire cast, save Anil Kapoor, appears to be piggybacking on his charisma. High on his success, Salman seems to care too little for the criticism that he turns a movie into an extended family enterprise these days.
Critics, however, believe that the Midas touch may not last for long. “He’s not serious about picking good subjects. I thought Salman had turned a new leaf with Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan but Race 3 demolished my hopes,” rues film writer Deepak Dua. “The film has too many non-actors who are in it primarily because of their close ties with him.”
Dua says Salman probably knows his range as an actor and that’s why he restricts himself to his comfort zone of masala entertainers, unlike Shahrukh and Aamir. “Let alone Aamir, even Shahrukh has been trying to do things differently since the days of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani(2000) and Asoka (2001),” he says. “It’s an altogether different matter that he has not been successful in that.”
Dua fears that Salman, at this juncture of his career, may end up committing the same blunder as yesteryear star Dharmendra. “Dharmendra did many eminently forgettable action flicks like Baghavat (1982) and Hukumat (1987),” he says. “I am afraid Salman is veering towards the same rut, playing a he-man over and over again. Race 3 is yet another pointer to that, ” he adds.
Race 3’s success, Dua points out, is the outcome of a number of factors. “The film benefited from the brand name of the Race franchise, besides Salman’s superstardom,” he says. “Also, it was released on Eid, an occasion when even his really bad movies have done well. But it has to be borne in mind that the success of a bad movie like Race 3 will only spawn films of similar or worse quality.”
The audiences see absolute honesty in the way he leads his real and reel lives,” says Sultan director Ali Abbas Zafar.
Trade pundits, however, see the success of Race 3, in spite of the trenchant criticism, as yet another confirmation of the saleability of Brand Salman. “Jaako raakhe Salman, maar sake naa critics (No critic can harm a Salman project,)” says veteran film trade expert Atul Mohan, twisting a popular adage used by the actor in Race 3.
Mohan, the editor of Complete Cinema, further says that Salman has never been serious about film scripts and yet he has been consistently delivering what the audiences like. “Without the audience’s support, it would not have been possible for Race 3 to earn Rs 160 crore in the first ten days of its release,” he elaborates.
Mohan even goes to the extent of saying that the criticism against and the potshots at Race 3 on social media are part of a ‘sinister campaign’ by a few people who are acting with vested interests. “When somebody becomes popular, certain people try to bring him down,” he says. “In the case of Race 3, social media was used by many as a tool to harm the prospects of Salman’s movie. But people are still flocking to theatres, despite all the trolling.”
That probably sums up the prolonged magic that Salman has cast on the audiences in recent years. Even though most of his movies are bereft of the nous of an Aamir-starrer or the purpose of a Shahrukh project, he remains the ultimate talisman at the box office—somebody who wears his X-factor like armour and lives by what his character says in the film Kick; “Dil mein aata hoon, samajh mein nahin (I come into the heart, not the mind.)”

★ Race 3 hype builds, could take 40-cr opening!
June 13, 2018
The race is on for the blockbuster Eid release, Race 3, this week. The Salman Khan-starrer ensemble action-drama has already created plenty of hype ever since its trailer released and, now, two days before the movie hits cinemas, the audience can barely contain their excitement. We spoke to some distributors across the country and discovered that the anticipation is only building ahead of the movie’s release.
Balkrishna Shroff, Distributor (Mumbai)
The craze for Race 3 is excellent. The movie is looking very good and advance bookings online are doing very well. People are as excited about Race 3 as they are about any other Salman Khan movie. While, earlier, the queues at booking counters were legendary, all the activity has moved online. I don’t think any other movie in 2018 has generated so much hype. The last film that the audience was super-excited about was Tiger Zinda Hai. Judging by how things are looking right now, first-day collections of Race 3 should be over Rs 30 crore.
Sakshi Mehra, Distributor (Delhi-UP)
There is plenty of excitement over the movie but the verdict from the audience will come in on Friday. Being a Salman Khan film with a big star cast, the movie has generated plenty of anticipation. Also, it is the holiday period and the Eid weekend. No doubt, the initial collections will be fantastic. I expect the film to be very big.
Gaurav Ruparel, Distributor (Rajkot)
The craze for Race 3 is building every day. People are delighted with the schemes being offered by Paytm and other similar apps that offer advance booking for movie tickets. I think the film will do huge business from the very beginning. It might earn more than Rs 40 crore on day one itself. People are always excited about Salman Khan’s films but this kind of craze was not there for Tubelight last year.
The hype is probably even more because there weren’t many children’s films during this vacation. So, that section of the audience is also excited. Also, people have not seen a commercial film for many months. Kaala has not done well and Veere Di Wedding is aimed at a certain section of the audience. The last commercial film was maybe Baaghi2 and it released two months ago. That adds to the buzz around Race 3, as it is a family film.
Jaspal Dhingra, Distributor (East Punjab)
The talk around the film has increased over the last few weeks. The film has been marketed very well and people like the look of the film, which will definitely take a bumper opening. It is our hero Salman Khan’s movie, after all. The advance booking is quite remarkable and the buzz around the film has amped up in the last week or so. There is a spike in advance bookings too.
One, this is a Salman Khan film releasing on Eid and, two, the Race brand is huge. People can’t wait for the third instalment in this franchise and they want to watch Salman Khan in a Race film. Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai was also a huge brand and it generated a lot of anticipation but Tubelight was a disappointment. It was a little thanda from the very beginning. But the trailer of Race 3 has made it clear that this is an action movie with a glamourous backdrop and movies like these are very popular among the masses. I think this film will take the biggest opening for any movie in 2018 to date.
This is a good time to release movies. The vacation and festival season is good. Also, in North India, due to load-shedding of electricity, people don’t want to sit in the heat indoors. They prefer to step out with family. So, a movie like Race 3 will pull in the audience, just as Raazi, Parmanu and Veere Di Wedding did. But Race 3 will earn much more.
Sanjay Marudhar, Distributor (Central India)
Since this is an Eid release and it features Salman Khan, there is a lot of hype around the film. People have already started booking their tickets online. The Salman Khan and Eid combination always works for the audience. They look forward to it every year. But the hype is even more as Race 3 belongs to a huge franchise. The songs of the film are doing very well. No film has made as much noise as Race 3 is making this year and the collections of the film should be more than anything we have seen this year. The first day and weekend will be the biggest.
Debashish Dey, Distributor (West Bengal)
The anticipation about the movie is very good. The film features Salman Khan and we all know that Race is a very popular franchise. Hence the buzz will increase. It has action scenes at par with those in foreign movies and it is even more for a Salman Khan movie this time. All his films have fans in a tizzy, especially his Eid releases. The audience was very excited about Tubelight, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan but Race 3 has created a frenzy among the audience. This is the biggest release of the year, to date.
Advance booking is the biggest it’s been for a film in 2018 and it will pick up further tomorrow. What could be bigger than the combination of Salman Khan, Eid and Race? From what I hear, since Eid is on Saturday and Friday is the last Jumma, I think the day-one collections will be around Rs 38 crore, which is huge. Collections will grow on Saturday and even further on Sunday. The total for the first weekend will be around Rs 125 crore.
Rajesh Thadani, Distributor (Mumbai)
The opening of the film will be very good. The audience has been looking forward to watching this film in theatres and since it is the holiday of Eid, business is bound to be good. The main collections will be made on Saturday and Sunday, which will create a record-breaking opening weekend for this film.
Ravi Machhar, Distributor (Nizam)
The Race 3 craze is more than good. People have been booking tickets online and bookings have picked up today and will be even more tomorrow. When the film releases on Friday, I think it will cross Rs 40 crore. If it achieves that on its first day, we can expect a Rs 110-crore plus weekend. The film is big brand and it adds to the curiosity of the audience. It makes the film bigger than being only a Salman Khan movie releasing on Eid. Franchises do good business and when you have other great factors, the opening weekends are always good.
