IT WAS VERY CONVENIENT TO FIND OUT that someone you already knew by employing as a handyman also had exactly what you were looking for in that moment. Annaki believed actually getting the drugs would be the hardest part of their plan to broaden their horizons and possibly show they were more than just a happy-go-lucky receptionist. They were entirely capable of being cool, of hanging with those who were seen as being from a rougher crowd. There was absolutely no one asking them to prove such a fact, but they still felt it was necessary to show. Besides, wasn't it time she did something on the riskier side? Of all the things she could think of, the rowdiest thing she did was have a couple too many glasses of red wine or get in trouble for bringing a mini pig to a prison--and that wasn't even intentionally causing trouble! The small dime bag was held up in front of her grey eyes for a moment, as if Annaki had any way of telling exactly what she was inspecting the substance for. It looked right from her minimal knowledge, not that that said much. For once, she didn't annoy Benny with too many of her incessant questions, even if that had now left her a little bit in the dark on how to proceed. Pour the contents out on the counter of the fancy bathroom, they weren't entirely sure what exactly could be considered the correct serving size, taking a guess as she formed a line with the white powder. Pinching one side of her nose closed, they deeply inhaled, coughing instinctively from the strange feeling of breathing in the drugs. How long it would take or exactly what they were expecting next wasn't completely known, but they didn't anticipate the sudden dizziness they felt, woozy and their back falling against the wall in an attempt at steadiness. Her skin felt cold and yet she was sweating, suddenly beginning to second guess that she was entirely in control of what she decided to do. The concern didn't last long, though, as she collapsed to the cold, tiled floor, vision going out only moments before her consciousness did as well. // @nxnbinarydracvla

DOROTHY COULD FEEL SOME OF THE UNEASE slowly melt away at her kind words, and even better, nonjudgmental ones. She didn't even want to think of what the ringleader would say if her own butchering of a sales pitch that was studded and lumped in with a perfect mess of stumbling and muttering. It would definitely not help the allegations of her lack of confidence, as if it wasn't a completely different situation between the two. Hearing that exact thought echoed by Freya at least supplied some reassurance that just because she sucked at being a confident salesperson, it didn't mean the same for being a performer. "That's what I wanted to say, but..." She trailed off as her eyes dropped to the ground, the reasoning for not speaking up for herself probably quite obvious by the rest of the conversation. "Thank you. And thank you for the help. I'm not sure if trying to practice to myself in the mirror would just make me feel like an even bigger idiot, though, or not. I would probably just spend the entire time cringing at it all." At least practice for the circus was actually fun, and if she was ever frustrated by it all, then eventually that would all be worth it when whatever move that caused the annoyance was finally mastered. She supposed she could always ask Pesor to listen to her practice pitch, but the idea of wasting any time with them on something like this sounded horrible, even if they would probably agree without any hesitation. "We just started practicing for the spring version of shows, so that one is my current favorite. But it won't be out for a few months, so the correct answer I'm supposed to give is the current one," she giggled. "It's much easier to get a good seat on a weekday, though."

In a way, the soft-spoken circus performer reminded Freya of a younger version of herself, back when she was still naïve and hopeful about her ambitions for her career, and long before she fully grew into the confidence that she currently had in her skills as a dancer. It was nice to be reminded of that part of herself, that she wasn't always so jaded to the realities of being a working creative. Sure, maybe she never danced on a national tour or made it to the New York City Ballet, but seeing people like Dorothy around town, clearly proud and passionate about what they did, made the redhead grateful that she made a living as a dancer at all, even at a small burlesque theater in Alaska. Smiling warmly at the younger girl, Freya nodded sympathetically. "I can understand that. I had to do similar things when I was in the ballet world as a student, and it made me more nervous than actually performing," she laughed. Her face open and attentive as Dorothy restarted the pitch, Freya nodded her encouragement, a gentle grin appearing when the younger girl made it through the whole speech without slipping up once. "Much better—it definitely would've peaked my interest if I'd never heard of your show before. I've found that things like this get easier with practice, so try to give yourself a little grace too," she offered. Accepting the extended flyer and reviewing its contents curiously, the seamstress agreed, "Of course, you can't forget about these. Otherwise, people might not know where to find you. So, for the uninitiated in town like myself, what's the best time of year and day of the week to come and see one of yours shows? Got anything special planned?"

Kadari Calrissian is the daughter of former Stormtrooper Freya Calrissian and the late Resistance pilot Wyatt Cloudgust, the maternal granddaughter of Lando Calrissian. The girl was named after the birthname of her mother's that the First Order eventually swiped away from memory before renaming her FY-4201. Taking part in the Resistance, Kadari helps repair ships, droids, and technology such as the bases' central power grid. Her mother Freya taught her how to fight and shoot while her grandfather Lando taught her how to pilot and create gadgets. Skilled as a technician belonging to the small group known as "The Technos", she went under the guise as Dauntless Bela, or just Bela for short. Developing a name for herself, many Resistance fighters recommended stopping by personally to gain her help. Because of this, Kadari was eventually recruited for help by fellow friend Jace Volanardo to help restore his new found vessel he called Honor to its glory days. Doing this favor earned her a place in the Honor Crew alongside Jace, Ender Solo, and Adelpha Nox as the freighter's technician and engineer.

DOROTHY WASN'T SURE SHE HAD EVER been in the cabaret lounge before in all her time that she had been living with Anchorage, which felt longer to her than it probably truly was when so many years of her life had been spent traveling all around the country with never staying in one place for long. The acrobat thought she didn't mind such a lifestyle, even if the later years weren't spent with her biological family, she would always have her circus family around her. Only now, she seemed to have the best of both worlds finding a career in a stationary carnival, even if there were certain aspects of Anchorage she would hesitate to claim she loved. (Try as she might, it wasn't possible to fully act ignorant to missing persons or other strange happenings in the community.) Even now, she didn't feel as if she was truly seeing much of Sweet Cheeks, the majority of her evening being filled with last minute fixes to the one outfit she had designed for the event. What hers lacked in expensive materials and large-pocketed sponsors, it would make up in timely dedication and handcrafted aspects, or at least she hoped it did. At least once it was on the model and some last minute, minor alterations, Dorothy no longer had to worry about messing something up herself, which was a bit of a relief. Getting ready to search for Pesor and hopefully some food next, her head whipped around at the familiar voice. "Freya? I have my travel sewing kit, which should have enough to help. Do you need something hemmed, or is it a different issue?" One hand raised to pull gently on the ends of her own hair. "As for the second part...I can do my best?" Giving it her best shot was the least she could do to return the favor from the last time they met.

After the last year spent in Anchorage, Freya was starting to feel like a bona fide local in the Alaskan town. Even through the oddities and macabre things occurring in her orbit, the dancer felt a sense of normalcy among the lifelong residents and their gallows humor. Sweet Cheeks in particular felt like a home away from her familiar basement apartment, even during a special event that had little to do with what she did there most nights—trading in the sequins and feathers of her performance wear for a new role: aspiring seamstress extraordinaire. But though the redhead prided herself on being cool under pressure, especially after years of ballet training had given her nerves of steel, it seemed that her usual resolve was quickly put to the test when thrust into unfamiliar waters. And with the clock counting down until the next round of models was due onstage, pieces of her costumes still in incomplete tatters, she was getting desperate.

Peaking her head out from behind the backstage curtain, Freya gestured to the first person that crossed her path near the edge of the stage. "Pst! Hey! Do you have a second?" she asked, shifting anxiously from foot to foot. "I'm having a bit of a tailoring emergency, and I don't know what to do. You think you could help me out? Or... you know, talk me down?" she remarked with a nervous laugh, glancing back at her designs.

March 2023 Reading Wrap-Up

Hard to believe that we are already going into April, but I read 7 books in March + 1 dnf. It was a really good reading month in general, and I found some new favorites this month.

1.A Day Of Fallen Night (Roots of Chaos #0) by Samatha Shannon. 5/5 stars. Absolutely stellar and my favorite book so far this year. I thought this was better than Priory and this is one of the few books where I don't think I have any complaints. Adult High Fantasy

2.The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty 4/5 stars. This was a very entertaining story about lady pirate coming out of retirement for one last job, set in the middle east during the middle ages. Very fast paced, plot and action driven story. Excited to see where this new series goes. Adult Historical Fantasy

3.The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokski 1/5 stars-DNF. I could not stand this book, and stopped only after about 25%. Sadly, I don't think Chokski is an author for me. There were a lot of things I didn't like- the writing style, the characters, the instalove. I was very disappointed in this. Adult Fantasy

4.The River of Silver : Tales from the Daevabad Trilogy by SA Chakrabory 4/5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this collection of short stories from one of my favorite series. This included stories from before, during, and after the main events of the series. This gave a good wrap-up and bonus content to this series. Adult High Fantasy

5.Velvet Was The Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia 3/5 stars. This was an enjoyable historical noir from one of my new favorite authors. I didn't enjoy this book as much as Garcia's others, but it was quite different. Historical Noir.

6.Persepolis Rising (The Expanse #7) by James SA Corey 4/5 stars. I'm hoping to finally finish this series this year, and I enjoyed this entry quite a bit. It is very action and plot driven, but I really like the new plot and new villain this book introduced. It should be a good end to the series. Science-Fiction

7.Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen. A must read for ace folks and those interested. Really well done and informative. Nonfiction

8. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn 4.5/5 stars. Wow wow wow I really like this. I was hooked, and could not put this down. It was very action and plot forward, but didn't feel over the top. This was also unique and original, even though it has familiar ya tropes. A new favorite and I hope to read book 2 soon. YA Fantasy.

Welcome to Round 1 of the Wasted Woman Poll, the tournament to see which fridged woman deserved better!

Thank you everyone for your patience for Round 1 to begin. Now that the semester is over, I finished the list of match-ups for the Round 1 bracket.

There were 89 contestants for this tournament. Anyone familiar with tournaments knows that it doing a 89-contestant, single-elimination tournament would be annoying. Rather than cutting out 25 contestants to make it a 64-contestant tournament, I opted to use the format of a 64-contestant tournament, just with some of the poll in Round 1 (a majority of them, actually) being three-way polls with a single winner rather than solely two-way polls. So out of the 89 contestants going into Round 1, only 32 will go on to Round 2. Many of the listings in Round 1 will be characters from the same series going against each other, so that the future rounds will be more varied.

The tournament will be split into 4 sets of 8 polls each, with every poll running for a whole link. Below the cut will be the list of match-ups for each set and when the polls will premiere.

If there are any mistakes at all (spelling, if a character appears twice, if the media someone is listed under is incorrect, etc.) please let me know! I did double-check it, but I'm only human so errors do happen.
