🎃 Imagine this. The stage doors slide open with the rumble of machinery. The bright lights and even brighter roar of the crowd overwhelms you for a moment. Your body is already moving, possessed by the coregraphy you could do in your sleep like a manufactured-to-be-sexy robot. Lyrics and melodies are pouring from your smiling lips, faster than your brain can keep up with. It's all so big. So loud. So dazzling. At least...you might think it is. Beneath the magic, i's a stadium that smells like french fries, and the crystalline sequins of your costume pinch your ribs and scratch your armpits. It's a giant room full of people. Their excitment is intoxicating, and flattering. The clockwork rhythm is soothing and maddening. You feed them your practiced drama and they all promise to stay. Ha! You choke back the bitter scoff every night. Every night a sea of different humans. And yet so many of them are the same. So many of them, in fact, that sometimes you forget that every now and again there's a person standing there who actually knows you. Sees you. Hears you. But then, you find them in the crowd. With their sign, hand-painted with an inside joke. With their outfit that reminds you of brighter days gone by. With their girlfriend holding their hand, matching shades of lipstick on their mouths. And you can't keep your eyes off them. Can't stop singing to them and dancing with them. You're spellbound. It's one of the rare moments that this was all for in the first place. The sight of them makes you, for the thirteen millionth time, want to break character. To floor it through the fences. To rip the seams of the constricting ballgown and scream at the top of your lungs. "Look at them instead!" You want to insist. "I wish I could be more like them! They are the truly great ones!" But obsession always outweighs affection, so you swallow your pride and strive for perfection. You stick to the script. You stay the course. You remind yourself that every scratch on the prison walls is one step closer to freedom. Closer to lying in the sunlight of your lover. Closer to that final time you will duck under the edge of the pedestal and drown in the waves of grief and relief in equal measure. Your guilt is only placated by the fact that you tried to warn them. So. Many. Times. You told them that you were a monster. A traitorous beast. A godzilla smashing your way through their town. You grit your teeth. You hold your microphone like a matchstick. You try to enjoy what you can, while you can. Because once that curtain draws, things will never be the same again. They will finally be as they should have been all along. And that's the best and worst part of it all. I hope your Halloween is enchanted. 🎃

In P4, Kanji talks about his "animal crackers", which in Japanese was a real snack called Ototo.
When Persona 4 Golden was re-released on Steam in 2020, Atlus/Sega had seemingly lost the rights or partnership to call Ototo by its actual name.
When Kanji catches Yosuke eating his Ototo, Yosuke now calls it, "Suisui Snack", and the line is also unvoiced as they just removed the audio instead of having the voice actors re-record. Since the Ototo snacks are supposed to be sea and marine-themed (ototo is like... a childish way of saying fish, yeah let's go with that), I assume the "don't sue us" name, Suisui, is from 水 which can be read sui or mizu and means water.
Unrelatedly but also relatedly, another name that had to be changed as a result is Potelong as that was also a real snack. It was localized as Tater Longs. The "don't sue us" name for that one in the 2020 Steam release was Furaimo Potato. Since Potelong look like french fries, I assume that's a combo of fried foods (furai) and the JP word for potato (imo), plus just the eng word potato lol. Fried potato potato.
The localization for these didn't change, so they're still animal crackers and Tater Longs in the 2020+ English game.
Meanwhile, other real products like Ribbon Citron and Ribbon Napolin (Eng: TaP Soda and Orange Smash) and Homerun Bars (Eng: Topsicles) still keep their real names in the 2020+ versions of the game, and you can even see their manufacturers (Pokka and Kyodo Milk) in the credits still.
So, if you've ever wondered why a milk company is in the credits...

[WESKER'S REPORT II / NEMESIS]
NEMESIS 1988.7.1 (Fri)
(Five years after previous record)
For us, the summer of our eleventh year in the Arklay Laboratory was about to begin. I was already 28-years-old by then. Birkin had also become the father of a 2-year-old daughter. His companion was also an Arklay researcher.
Thinking normally, it's difficult to grasp how they were able to bring themselves to marry and even raise a child while continuing research there together. But it could be said they were able to continue their research in Arklay since they weren't people of normal sensitivities.
There, only madmen can find success.
And so in the space of ten years, our research had finally reached the third stage. A more advanced combat-ready Bio Organic Weapon with intelligence, programmed to comply with commands and function as a soldier.
We were to create a monster nicknamed "Tyrant." However, there was a major obstacle in this research from the start. The acquisition of an organism used as the Tyrant's host proved difficult.
At the time, the biggest problem was that an extremely limited number of humans could genetically adapt as a Tyrant. It was caused by the nature of the t-Virus. Although the t-Virus variant for manufacturing Zombies and Hunters was adaptable for most humans, it had a problem with invading brain tissue. If a certain amount of intelligence couldn't be maintained, then they couldn't become a Tyrant.
To overcome this problem, Birkin extracted a new variant that suppressed the influence on the brain to a minimum if it fully adapted. But there were extremely few humans in possession of the genes to adapt to the variant. In the Gene Analysis Section's simulations, only "one in ten million humans" would develop as a Tyrant, the rest would merely become Zombies.
As our research progressed, we should've been able to develop another type of t-Virus more humans could adapt to as Tyrants, but first our research required a human who completely adapted to the new variant. However, there was an extremely low possibility of us bringing in a human, of whom there were only a dozen, as a test subject, even if we searched the whole United States.
Actually, at the time we were able to provide only a few with close genetics after forcibly gathering them from other laboratories. We had come to a deadlock even before our research began. But not long afterwards, we heard a rumor there was a project at a certain laboratory in Europe to manufacture a "Third Stage Bio Organic Weapon" based on a completely new way of thinking.
That was the "Nemesis Project."
Determined to change the situation at the time, I maneuvered in order to obtain a sample of the project. Birkin then objected of course, but I was somehow able to persuade him on this occasion. He couldn't help but admit our research wouldn't progress until we found an adaptable subject.
A few days passed, then, in the middle of the night, a "package" was delivered from Europe through several relays. It was merely contained in a small box lowered onto the heliport.
The "Nemesis Prototype." It was under development at a French lab and I had resorted to some considerably heavy-handed means to obtain it, but Spencer's backing proved crucial in the end. Although Birkin didn't display any interest for it right up to the end, he still recognized the significance of testing it. The sample was developed for a completely new revolutionary concept. A "parasitic organism" created artificially through genetic engineering. That was the true nature of Nemesis.
Unable to do anything standalone, it's an organism specializing only in intelligence. However, it controls intelligence by parasitizing the brains of other organisms and can demonstrate advanced combat efficiency. Intelligence is provided separately from the combat-ready organism and it's said that by compounding the two, they will constitute a single Bio Organic Weapon. If this is perfected, a combat-ready organism can definitely be created without having to worry about the intelligence issue. But the problem was parasitism through "it" wasn't stable at all.
On the document attached to the sample, it listed only examples of subject deaths due to failure. Parasitized organisms die from the Nemesis' intelligence control within five minutes. However, we were aware the incomplete prototype was dangerous. We would take it from the hegemony of the Nemesis Project and successfully extend the parasitism duration somehow. That was my aim.
Of course, we used that female test subject. Her abnormal vitality could possibly withstand the parasitism of the Nemesis Prototype for an extended period. Even if it failed, we would lose nothing.
Contrary to my expectations however, the experiment produced a completely different result. Nemesis attempted to invade her brain, then vanished. We initially had no idea what happened. Indeed, we never would've imagined she had absorbed the parasite.
That was the beginning.
Until then, she was merely a thing who just would not die, and something was about to awaken inside of her. Once again, we needed to re-examine her from scratch. She had been examined exhaustively over the last ten years, but we dared to ignore the past data. Something nobody had been able to catch for twenty one years, since before we were assigned to this lab, was about to appear.
Only Birkin noticed something after he spent a long time. Something was definitely inside her. However, it was something that deviated from the t-Virus Project. It would produce another completely new concept.
It was the beginning of the "G-Virus Project", which altered our fates.
(The record continues seven years later)

Sea Salt Beach Boardwalk, Ep. 1
Katie is a large woman, no one has ever denied that. She's a true local; she practically grew up on the boardwalk. Therefore, she spent all of her summers as a kid begging her parents for candy at the candy shop, all of her teenage summers flirting with the boy behind the ice cream counter (who was all too happy to give the chubby girl some free ice cream now and then), and as soon as she turned 18 she started working at the Candy Factory Sweet Shop to make some money and sample the merchandise as she pleased.
Katie's favorite candy in the shop is the handmade fudge. It's easy to make, very filling, and tastes sooooooo good. With her employee discount making it basically free, Katie eats at least an entire block of fudge every shift. Since they have dozens of fudge flavors to choose from, she never gets bored of it. Their caramels are also known for being fantastic, as is their taffy. Those aren't very filling, but they're a tasty little snack to pop in your mouth. The artisanal chocolates, Katie has found, are great gifts for welcoming new faces to the pier. They're like, addictingly good, and almost always ensure repeat customers.
Katie takes most of her lunch breaks at the Fry Hut with her best friend Sarah. They chat and gossip and giggle as best friends do over buckets and buckets of french fries, fried chicken, fried fish, corndogs, onion rings, and even more french fries. About three times a week before work, for breakfast the girls would get what they called 'beach babes brunch' from a diner just off the shore which consisted of a tall stack of pancakes, bacon and eggs, and iced coffees-- Katie took hers with mostly cream and only a little coffee.
Her steady diet of fried snacks and candy meant that after 10 years of working at the Candy Factory, the chubby teen had blossomed into an enormously fat woman. Her long luscious blonde hair frames her double chins, round cheeks, and wide smile. She has strikingly wide hips (good thing the shop has a wide double door, she needs it!). Her big belly rests on her lap while she sits behind the fudge counter. Her belly jiggles when she laughs with customers as she does every day. She is always full of candy and zest for life. Katie is the poster girl for fat and happy.
She worked her way up to manager of the Candy Factory, but she kept her first uniform as a keepsake. Adorable that she ever fit into an XL polo shirt. In the shop office, there are photos of the staff from every summer dating back decades. Katie loves these pictures not only because they remind her of her old friends, but because they show very clearly how much she grew over the years: from just over 200 pounds her first summer to a glowing 254 pounds the following year, on and on with a new uniform to fit her growing body every season until this year: She'd accidentally outgrown the largest size the uniform manufacturer makes! At a heavy and still growing 517 pounds, 28-year-old Katie finally got to create her own uniform, though sometimes she still wears her old one, just to show off how tight it is.
Recently, Katie's Candy Factory got a new hire. Katie is working on training Jen, whose resume for retail work was strong, but seems to lack the enthusiasm for sweets. Jen has a particularly dark demeanor; you'd guess by looking at her she never really left her goth phase. Her baby blue Medium work polo looks comically cheery against her jet-black hair and facial piercings. Jen is a college student who's only working for the summer, but Katie is determined that in just three months she'll teach Jen what makes candy so wonderful, even if it means she has to feed her new samples every day. Besides, Katie thinks, Jen is so skinny anyway, she could use some candy in that belly.

Frozen Potato Market: Key Strategies for Manufacturers to Capitalize on Emerging Trends and Opportunities
The frozen potato market has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, fueled by shifts in consumer habits and the rising demand for convenient food options. As urbanization accelerates globally, frozen potato products like fries, wedges, and hash browns are becoming increasingly popular due to their ease of preparation and long shelf life. This trend presents significant opportunities for manufacturers looking to capitalize on a growing market.
Convenience Food as a Key Market Driver
Convenience is a crucial factor in modern consumer behavior, and frozen potatoes align perfectly with this trend. With increasingly busy lifestyles, consumers seek easy-to-prepare meal options. Frozen potato products, which require minimal preparation and offer quick cooking solutions, appeal to individuals and families looking for fast, yet flavorful meals. Manufacturers can leverage this demand by offering products that cater to busy consumers’ needs.
The Fast-Food Industry: A Catalyst for Growth
The rapid expansion of the fast-food industry has significantly contributed to the growth of the frozen potato market. Fast-food chains, particularly in developing regions, heavily rely on frozen potato products like french fries. As these chains continue to expand globally, the demand for frozen potatoes is expected to increase, providing a reliable and consistent market for manufacturers. Fast-food giants remain key customers for suppliers in this sector.
Product Innovation as a Growth Strategy
Today’s consumers are constantly looking for new and exciting products, creating opportunities for frozen potato manufacturers to innovate. Traditional offerings such as french fries remain popular, but there is growing demand for a broader variety of potato-based products. Manufacturers can attract diverse consumer segments by introducing new flavors, shapes, and healthier alternatives, such as low-fat or gluten-free options. Innovation in product offerings can differentiate brands in a competitive market.
Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing: Addressing Consumer Concerns
Sustainability is an increasing priority for consumers, and frozen potato manufacturers can benefit by adopting eco-friendly practices. Utilizing sustainable packaging, reducing food waste, and ensuring ethical sourcing of potatoes can enhance brand reputation. Consumers are more likely to support companies that prioritize the environment and ethical labor practices, and manufacturers that embrace sustainability can tap into this growing demand.
Advancements in Freezing Technology and Packaging
Technological advancements in freezing processes, such as individual quick freezing (IQF), have improved the quality and texture of frozen potatoes, ensuring they retain their freshness and flavor. For manufacturers, investing in advanced freezing technologies can enhance product quality and extend shelf life, which is essential for gaining consumer trust. Packaging innovations, such as resealable or portion-controlled packs, also add convenience for consumers and improve market appeal.
Emerging Markets: Expanding Opportunities
While North America and Europe are mature markets, regions like Asia-Pacific and Latin America present significant growth opportunities. Rapid urbanization, rising disposable incomes, and changing dietary habits in these areas are increasing the demand for frozen food products, including potatoes. Western fast-food chains expanding into these regions further boost the market. Manufacturers can explore these emerging markets by localizing products to cater to regional preferences.
Health Consciousness: Challenges and Opportunities
Health-conscious consumers often view frozen and processed foods with caution due to concerns about additives, preservatives, and high sodium levels. However, this presents an opportunity for manufacturers to reformulate products and offer healthier options. Low-sodium, low-fat, and gluten-free frozen potato products can attract health-focused consumers. Clear labeling and communication of nutritional benefits, such as high fiber and vitamins, can also help improve consumer perception.

The Importance of Foodservice and Retail Partnerships
Building strong partnerships with food service providers and retailers is essential for frozen potato manufacturers. Fast-food chains, casual dining restaurants, and catering services rely on bulk orders of frozen potato products, making these partnerships critical for long-term success. Similarly, retail channels like supermarkets and e-commerce platforms offer significant opportunities for visibility and sales. Manufacturers can benefit by developing strong relationships with retailers and offering attractive promotions to boost sales.

BurgerTime
BurgerTime, originally released as Hamburger in Japan, is a 1982 arcade video game developed by Data East, initially for its DECO Cassette System. The player is chef Peter Pepper, who must walk over hamburger ingredients in a maze of platforms and ladders while avoiding anthropomorphic hot dogs, fried eggs, and pickles which are in pursuit.
In the United States, Data East USA licensed BurgerTime for distribution by Bally Midway as a standard dedicated arcade game. Data East also released its own version of BurgerTime in the United States through its DECO Cassette System. The Data East and Midway versions are distinguished by the manufacturer's name on the title screen and by the marquee and cabinet artworks, as the game itself is identical. The game's original Japanese title Hamburger changed outside of Japan to BurgerTime, reportedly to avoid potential trademark issues. In addition to all releases in the Western world, BurgerTime also became the title used for the Japanese ports and sequels.
The first home port of BurgerTime was released for the Intellivision console in 1983, followed by versions for other systems. There have been multiple sequels for both the arcade and home.
When Data East went bankrupt in 2003, G-Mode bought most of Data East's intellectual properties, including BurgerTime, BurgerTime Deluxe, Super BurgerTime, and Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory.
The object of the game is to build a number of hamburgers while avoiding enemy foods. The player controls the protagonist, chef Peter Pepper, with a four-position joystick and a "pepper" button.
Each level is a maze of platforms and ladders in which giant burger ingredients (bun, meat patty, tomato, lettuce) are arranged. When Peter walks the full length of an ingredient, it falls to the level below, knocking down any ingredient that happens to be there. A burger is completed when all of its vertically aligned ingredients have been dropped out of the maze and onto a waiting plate. The player must complete all burgers to finish the board.
Three types of enemy food items wander the maze: Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg. The player can score extra points by either crushing them under a falling ingredient or dropping an ingredient while they are on it. In the latter case, the ingredient falls two extra levels for every enemy caught on it. Crushed or dropped enemies return to the maze after a short time.
At the start of the game, the player is given a limited number of pepper shots to use against enemies. Pressing the button causes Peter to shake a cloud of pepper in the direction he is facing; any enemy touching the cloud is briefly stunned, and Peter can safely move through them. Ice cream, coffee, and French fries appear on occasion, awarding bonus points and one extra pepper shot when collected.
There are six boards of increasing difficulty, with more burgers/ingredients, more enemies, and/or layouts that make it easier for Peter to become cornered. After the player completes the sixth board, the cycle repeats. One life is lost whenever Peter touches a non-stunned enemy, and the game ends once all lives are lost.

I was tagged by @burins in a people I want to get to know tag meme! Thanks for the tag!
Last Song: I was actually listening to this in the car as I was coming home from work today, Sexkiller on the Loose by Carpenter Brut. I really like this whole album, Trilogy , and listen to it all the time when I'm traveling. It's nice thinkin' music for me, but I have to be careful because it's very easy to speed when listening to the upbeat songs.
The last podcast I listened to was the most recent Behind the Bastards episode, discussing Michael Lewis and the terrible book he wrote about Sam Bankman-Fried. I also completed a re-listen of BtB's six part series on what a bastard Henry Kissinger was, in honor of his death.
The last book I read was Axiom's End by Lindsay Ellis. I might have stayed up until 12:30 am finishing it, and was VERY TIRED when I went birding the next day. Reading this book finally pushed me to get a library card so I can read the next book, Truth of the Divine. I've been holding out on getting a library card for the last couple years because my life has been so hectic with multiple moves. I've finally settled down enough where I can get a library card, and this book was the push I needed to finally do it.
My favorite color: purple! I just really love that color. If you look in my closet, you'll see a lot of purple clothes :)
Currently Watching: What everyone else on the Internet is watching, Hbomerguy's Plagiarism video essay. I couldn't watch it all yesterday and have one more hour to go!
Last Movie: Barbie! I watched it with my two best friends over a discord chat. One of them hadn't been able to see it yet, so we watched it together. It was also lovely to catch up :)
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Hmmmmmm. I'm a sucker for sweet things, but sometimes that gets to be a little too much for me. So sweet and savory or sweet and spicy are always favorite combos of mine.
Relationship status: Single. Not really looking for anyone either. I'm starting to suspect that I'm aro as well as ace.
Current obsessions: BIRDS. Omg, birds. I blame my cats for this, I got a bird feeder to hang outside a large window at my old apartment to entertain them. Well, it ended up entertaining me too. Now I have a nice camera, multiple bird field books, and I go to the local arboretum every Sunday to go birding. It's my "go out and touch literal grass" day. And it's so much fun to see the birds throughout the year, especially seeing which ones stay in the area and who migrates/come back. The dark-eyed juncos and white-throated sparrows are back and I'm SO HAPPY to see those little guys! I post my pictures on my bird tumblr or Bluesky, as well as the Batfam discord server I'm in :)
Last thing I googled: How to take the FUCKING knife guard off our back up meat slicer to clean it. I wanted both slicers going because we had 100 POUNDS (45+ kgs) of deli turkey to slice for my company's holiday party and it was dirty from the last time it was used. I have NO IDEA how the FUCK we got it off the first time. It should be simple! There is a long pin/bar you unscrew in the back! But it still wouldn't come off!! I think there is some kind of safety we're not triggering, but I have NO CLUE what it is. The manual it came with and the manufacturer's videos on YouTube were NO HELP. I blame the French (the slicer was made in France).
I'm tagging @ktkat99, @betta-male, @sunny-in-gotham, @halehathnofury, @froizetta, @superbattrash, @lizyarikus, @sisaloofafump, and anyone else who would like to join! No pressure though! :)
#tag game#tag meme#about me#thanks for the tag burins!#I hope you're happy about the library card part#I moved 3 times between April 2020 and end of December 2021#so settling down and getting a library card was the last thing on my mind during that time#it's nice to have one again :)
