It's only visible very briefly in Nightwatching, and who knows if it's him or a prop freedick.

But I am curious if his later career (post Sherlock, basically) lack of skin was a result of him not being the typical Hollywood hunk type or his own freedom to choose roles/dictate nudity levels

I hold out hope for him to play a suave yacht daddy type with a bit of casual nudity, because he could absolutely murder that kind of role

Early on when he did show skin you could really tell that he never worked out, like ever (which he said). He did look okay in Fargo though. Then in about 2014-2015 he clearly started doing so regularly and it was very obvious even in clothes, and has been pretty much since. So no I don’t think he’s too self-conscious to do it at all. One thing the guy doesn’t lack is self-confidence. Full of swagger always (in a good way imo).
