Dragonflies glint the prettiest, richest silver you’ve ever seen under the right light. The rosy evening sun casts the entire river into a blooming glow— complete with a soft blanket of fog that rolls along the base of the trees. “Your maiden servants worry about you, you know,” a voice softly calls, and the rustle of shrubbery makes you turn.
You don’t really want to know how long the man’s been guarding you without a word. If it were anyone but one of your father’s most trusted men, you’d probably have some distrust. Instead you only pull your knees to your chest, and continue tossing rocks into the babbling brook.
“Lady, it’ll get dark soon. Your parents don’t want you playing out here so late.”
The small area isn’t open enough to lure any visitors. You’d be fine. Still, you slowly bob your head, waiting for him to step away from the tree edge into the river bank with you. “I had a weird dream, only it didn’t feel like a dream.” The reeds sway in the wind, and you almost let the perfect surrounding whisk away the thought. But the man’s hand drops from his sword, and he gives the faintest of nods. “There was a monster here when I fell asleep— one with a huge mouth packed full of teeth. I saw eyes in the water, and hair so long it covered its whole body.” The tart remnants of your delicately applied makeup wash away as you swallow. “I think- it was a yokai.”
“There’s no yokai here, lady,” he patiently responds, and you turn to him better. This time taking a proper look. If the damp hair tied in a bun is anything to go off of, he was most likely called out of his bath to come out looking for you. You bite your lip, apology lingering on your tongue. But that’s where it stays, as the man continues. “There’s monsters only where people don’t go. You needn’t worry.”
“Are you comforting me?” A slight giggle passes your lips before you can help it. “I know you think I’m lying. You don’t believe anything you don’t see with your own eyes.”
“... It’s not for a lack of trying.” He smooths a hand over his hakama, before resting it back on the pristine handle of his sword. The dragonflies buzz over the low edge of the water, and your feet ache a little from the cold. You’d love to ask to be carried right about now, but spare the poor man the effort. It’s the least you can do. After another few minutes of silence and watching the sun disappear entirely below the tree line, he finally clears his voice. “Come on, lady. We should really get back. You’re precious to your parents. You’re precious to us all. I can’t leave you here.”
This river runs from the high mountains all the way through the small lake that borders the gates of your home; and all the way down the lowlands— and it’s said that on the day of your birth the river flooded, and provided the most bountiful harvest of the last few decades. Even as a child, there was no ignoring the gleeful whispering of the ladies, nor the calculated introductions of sons of poorer lords at every birthday or feast. Some day not too long from now you will get married and spread providence over the land… and there won’t be time for napping by rivers or running off half-dressed into the forest.
Somehow, despite the honor, a small part of you goes cold at that. The water glistens under the last of the light— and you take a long look into the deep of it. The eyes the color of hot coals flash through your mind once more, and you start pulling the fabrics of your dresses aside to put your zori back on. “I know it was a monster- but-” The wind picks up when you turn over your shoulder and smile your most genuine smile. “I wasn’t scared, I think. Perhaps it was friendly.”
The guard is quiet as he watches you get up from the riverbank, and sticks a comfortable distance after helping you gently up onto your feet. You suppose he doesn’t really have the heart, or perhaps confidence, to tell you what he really thinks of your childish talk. The barely-there path back to your home has you growing much more tired— as if weights are tied to your legs. You wish you could stay. The moss crunches softly under your feet, and the dewy air starts to feel a bit cold to the touch. Despite everything, it’s always peaceful here. You cast a brief glance up to the man as he pushes the shrubbery aside. His face has a vacant sort of look, until he catches you looking, and his mouth curls up. “I’ll tell your maiden servants to prepare a purifying ritual for you.”
“Ugh, no, please. Anything but that.”
+
“The koi fish aren’t around anymore, are they, lady?” There’s a slight hesitation in her voice as your maid walks up.
You nod, lift your sleeves to brush your fingers through the water and wait. You got them as a present for your coming of age festivities— the most beautiful blue grey with red fins— much too expensive for your liking but a courting gift nonetheless. You’d been quite fond of the walks out of your houses’ walls because of them. The feed floats sadly on the surface of the inlet, where the clear river water shows no sign at all of the normally curious animals. “It seems like they’ve gone.” What a shame.
Your other maiden scans the area, before rushing to help you up onto your feet as she lowers her head. “Should we ask the master to procure some more? We know feeding the fish brings you much joy.”
The girl helps to fix your sleeves again, before awaiting your call. “No, that’s quite alright. There’s no use replacing a gift.” You cast a wary glance at the bay once more, not quite sure what you’re looking for; but fail to find anything out of the ordinary. A sight furrow comes to your brow, before you hike up your layers of skirts- much to the shock of your two servants- and turn to them with a softer smile. “I would like to be alone for a bit—”
“Lady!” one of them squeaks, but you only laugh.
“I am certain, Hitsu. Tell my father I will be home before tea and dinner, and if you could prepare my bath…” The dark brunette has a question on her tongue, but does nod with the same trained properness that you’ve come to know. “I simply wish to walk along the river, I won’t swim. It’ll be quick, I promise.” It’s not a lie. You have no intention of ruining your beautiful, expensive clothing by going any further than a shallow few steps. But there’s a nagging memory somewhere in the back of your mind—
You used to have so many dreams, all of them now too faint to recall. Both young ladies give each other a look, before eventually bowing deeply and heading back towards the palace gates.
See, that nagging sense that you’re forgetting something important, something crucial, overcomes you. It’s almost impossible to ignore, and you kick off your shoes to tread carefully along the edge of the deep pool of fresh spring water. The moss is soft under your feet, keeping a tight grip on your embroidered silks.
When you were only a few years old, you used to have these dreams. Dreams of drowning, of ghouls and demons. They grew scarcer the older you got, and eventually even the weekly purification spells and chants became declared unnecessary. But where the memories once sat, now only a blank hole remains in your mind. And however hard you try to remember, you can never quite get there. You make it to the sloped edge of the river not much later, stepping up the small sputtering waterfall and a few round stones between stray bamboo— nearly still water pooling at your feet.
It’s chilly, but not freezing. Something scratches in the back of your skull, deep down. It trickles down your neck, and with a steady heartbeat, it breathes.
But you can’t catch the thought, and the harder you try, the cloudier it becomes— eventually you click your tongue and start walking along the water edge up stream. You should look for your fish. If they swam out of the inlet somehow, maybe they’d be around. They are, much like you are, bred for captivity and wouldn’t survive too long on their own. The sun casts warm spring rays onto your skin, walking in much needed solitude. When you barely realize you’ve spaced out, you’ve already made it to a bend in the river where peach blossoms float on the otherwise pristine surface of the water— and despite your previous care, you drop your dress.
The blossoms swirl in slow circles. And a raindrop lands on your nose.
Arms, wrapped tight around your chest. Claws. Wide lashless eyes.
Something floods your brain so suddenly that you stumble back a few steps and gasp, sucking in a breath.
It was here. You can’t exactly make out what, but your gut recognizes the trees, the scraggly stones sticking out of the water. Your lungs full of water, and hands all over.
Bumps rise all over your back as you look around, and water seeps up along your tarikubi robe. It’s so quiet, and the stillness starts to trouble with each droplet that comes down. But you breathe. You’ve been here, perhaps more than once, and the aching, pressing itch deep in your head grows more unbearable. When a metallic flicker catches your eyes, you glance down. The rain now starts up more properly, and though the trees provide some shelter, there’s no hiding away from the cold as you walk in just deep enough to bend and pick up a dainty golden chain from between the smooth rocks.
It’s fine like thread, and cold to the touch, and though you can’t quite explain it; something about this finely crafted piece is familiar too. Even through the rain and the chills crawling all the way up your spine, you study the necklace closer. The intricate detail is almost too pristine.
A soft splash on the other side of the river startles you— The sudden scare makes you lose your balance and fall back onto your lower end. Hard. The ache immediately has you whimpering, but instead of worrying about the pain, you slowly try to catch yourself on the rocks; pained enough in the motion that you swear — you see a person diving underneath the water edge. Something pale and fast. You scream, and whatever you saw dashes away before you can think about doing different. The blossoms drift off as you scramble back up; your bruised palms sting, and your heartbeat still hammers hard in your throat when the silence returns.
But the blurry flash of maroon hair and fiery red eyes you caught is long gone.
And much too soon, the clouds that had seemed so fluffy and beautiful earlier turn a dreary grey. You turn on your heel and book it back down the river side on bare feet— still clamping the chain between your fingers.
+
The wick of your lantern splutters with thick oil as you fail to catch sleep. Even with the spring weather it’s chilly, with you remaining wrapped under a thick blanket. You breathe a long sigh, and listen to the crackling of the candle beside your bed in the absence of any other sound. The earlier lecture of your father, your mother, and even the normally quiet and collected matron of the house still lingers on your mind— it’s not like you can blame anyone. You wouldn’t be the first stupid, brazen young girl who happened to drown, and despite the quiet lives most girls like you live, you most likely won’t be the last.
You shouldn’t have been out there. Your servants had been ghastly pale from fright upon seeing the state in which you returned, and even the thorough scrubbing and hours-long bath didn’t do much to alleviate the ache in your lower back.
Despite all that, you’re stuck. Eyes -monstrous, unnatural eyes- appear in the crevices of your mind each time you close your own. No amount of prayer makes the longing fade, and the longer you lay here, the deeper they seem to dig into your flesh. Goosebumps crawl all over your skin once more. When you throw your blankets off you, you go digging in one of the woven baskets for the thickest bland garments you’ve got— tying them around your hips until you’re dressed enough to peer out into the hall. The frigid air current howls through the house when you gather your lantern, some woven socks, and after a brief bit of deliberation; snatch the golden chain from beside your pillow.
The palace is quiet at night, an almost eerie sort of calm that is broken only by the soft ‘pats’ of your feet on the hardwood— with the lanterns barely providing enough light to see a good arms length at a time. The wind pushes you forward, nuzzling deeper into the collar of your clothing until you make it outside. Even under the starry sky, there’s no doubt that this is a stupid idea. No good can come from nightly outings — though you’ve seen girls come and go in similar ways under the cover of night, you’re quite sure their purpose was less out-for-trouble than you are now. But what else can you do?
How could you ever sleep soundly not knowing what’s out there.
With only the flickering reflection on the water, you bow before your home— you’d be back soon enough. You love your clan— and you have no intention of getting caught in long lectures twice in a night. The guards at the gates have no way of noticing you as you slip into the brush and cover the lamp from sight, as cold breaths form clouds before your eyes.
Your legs move almost instinctively until you come upon the peach tree, and the pretty white flowers rain down with the breeze. You place the candle by your feet; and hesitate before taking your own seat on a round rock right by the water edge. You’ve never seen a yokai. Not that you can remember at the very least, but if you would have-you didn’t expect to here. Not the river that blessed your birth, or the one who gives everyone life by way of harvest. Maybe what you saw was a farmer bathing, or a particularly pale, large cod— wouldn’t that make more sense. Isn’t that exactly why you didn’t tell your father?
Because naïvity and silly wonder seems better than monsters lurking among the shrub.
Sadly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, a soft splashing in the water sets every hair on your body upright— and your mouth goes dry. It’s so dark. So awfully dark that it’s hard to see even past your own feet, if not for the broken reflection of your candle in the water. You know it's there. You feel it, by the rancid sort of churning in your stomach, the rapid beating of your heart. You swallow the tightness in your throat as best you can. “I’ve come to return your necklace. I didn’t mean to steal it, so I’ve come to give it back.” You wish you could let your eyes grow used to the dark, but without candle light, it’d be so much harder to get back home in one piece.
After just the sounds of the river drag on, you slowly take another breath, and try to bite back the wetness that rises every time you try and fail to find the eyes you know are looking at you. “I don’t wish to harm anyone.” The wind seems to howl harder across the river, and you can’t fight the horrible visions of monsters all around you, just there in the darkness; tightening your hands into fists. “So I wish you would not harm me either. You can have it back.” Your hand shakes when you hold out the chain above the water— not nearly far enough for anything to reach it without coming into your sight. But you’re too frightened to go any deeper, and your lungs tighten.
“Please, I-”
The peaceful spluttering of the water is suddenly disrupted by a much louder splashing, and you freeze up with a sharp gasp, shoulders trembling despite yourself. You don’t dare move any more than that— only after a minute or so of silence, you continue. “Hello? Don’t you want your necklace back?”
The reeds shake in the wind, and one of the blossoms brushes along your cheek as it falls into your crouched lap. Your breathing is tense enough to almost hide the little mumble that reaches back. It’s soft, sweet like dripping honey, and makes your whole spine tingle. “We want.”
If you had any less sense, you’d probably run right back home. But the idea of moving is too terrifying, so you’re stuck rooted in place as you take a breath. The voice sounds young enough, but the Japanese is distinctly older than your own dialect, rolling off the tongue with a vague foreign lilt— and it takes your frightened brain a little longer than you want to process that the voice isn’t simply human. When another little splash sounds a bit closer, you pull your outstretched hand back to your chest. “Can you see me?” Your own voice wavers when trying to make out any shape in the river. Alas, it’s just so dark that any further effort hurts your eyes.
“Yes.”
“I’ve come to give back your necklace. I got scared and took it, I’m sorry. I mean no harm-”
“He told.” The voice is unbearably clear. Almost like it’s being spoken directly into your head, even though it’s just a mere whisper among the rippling water. It’s distracting, and feels ice cold between your ears.
“Who’s he?” you try, biting your lip. The river seems to stare back at you, and you can’t do anything but hope you aren’t making some horrible mistake. Are you supposed to talk to the monsters that go bump in the night? “I- I don’t know where you are, I can’t see you.” Despite the soft, gentle nature of the voice, your heart patters wildly, unable to let go of your fear when there’s another closer splash. You must only be a dozen feet away from each other now, and still you can’t even see past the water at your toes. The voice stays quiet for a while.
“You don’t see is … better.”
You don’t respond for even longer. But for whatever reason, you almost want to agree. Not seeing, he almost sounds like a childhood friend of yours. The soft, honeyed words aren’t so frightening when you can’t see what they’re being spoken by; and you gather your last bit of courage to softly open your palm out again towards the night. “I’ll throw it over to you. Can you catch it?”
“No ‘throw’.” The -whatever- struggles with the word as he says it, before going quiet. You’re not sure if he doesn’t want you to throw it, or he simply doesn’t understand— so you just bite your lip and wait for any further comments that eventually do follow. “You put paw- h-hand.” Then, after another breath, “Come.” With a slight tremble in your voice, you breathe out a little laugh. You are really being asked to be braver than any girl with sense would— dragging your lantern closer over the pebbles until it’s right by your feet. Cursing yourself, you blink back nervous tears, trembling as you hike up the edge of your skirts, just the tiniest bit, and place only one foot into the shallowest part of the river for stability.
Your hand drops halfway outstretched, and you watch the flame where she glints back on the chain.
More splashing makes way for a more disturbing sound once it surfaces, of a body dragging over the shallow of the river towards you, scraping along the blunt stones— and you almost dart away when the sound comes close enough to reach. But your fingertips are almost frozen solid when another hand comes ever faintly into view, and wetness drops into your palm. To call it a hand is gracious, you decide. There’s longer digits, clawed, and webbed between each bony finger, and the wet glossy skin is more curved spike than thumb. The paw slides carefully along your hand, swiping up the chain as it goes— and leaves a cold coating all over your palm that you snatch back too quickly.
It’s unbearable to stay so close to something and not see it now, and you quickly hurry back to the safety of your rock as the same shuffling goes back to the water. Your heartbeat’s in your throat, and you can’t find any polite words to offer it until the yokai speaks again.
“Rin present, with- no, f-for you. You give present back, make happy. I am thank you.” You’re welcome, you think, but you barely manage to paint on a little smile before wringing your hands together and picking your lantern back up for safekeeping.
“I’m heading home now. If I’m not back soon my guards will find out.” It doesn’t feel entirely appropriate to thank it for not killing you when it had ample chance to, so you stay quiet. But there’s also a sense of gratitude that washes over you. Soon you’ll be back in bed like all of this was a dream. That seems right. That seems good. Your tongue lingers on your words. “You … What's your name?” The river bank feels much safer now you’re back on solid ground, and you can see the peach blossoms you almost slipped on.
There’s another long pause, where you almost make a run for it back all the way home, before the voice sounds out again from the dark— sugary sweet in its tone.
“Makoto.”
+
You’re pretty sure you should be questioning your own sanity. Everyone else wouldn’t hesitate to, and after the few restless nights you’ve had, you should be staying as far away as you can. But curiosity, mixed with a slight sense of obligation, has you walking the river bank like a little droplet flowing back to the sea. The quiet, scruffy man following behind doesn’t say much… never does, and you can’t say you dislike it. But you feel the glances your way, distracting you. Soon you find yourself clearing your voice. “You’re wondering why I’m walking this same path again?”
The older man only hesitates for a moment. “No, lady.”
“Sure you are. I would wonder if I were you.” There’s a faint smile that makes its way up, glancing out over the babbling brook to your left as grass tickles your ankles. “Not too long now and I’ll be engaged…” The peach blossoms above are almost done blooming— and you’ve never known your father to be an indecisive man. “Walking gives me a little break from all the fussing attendants, and father's advisors. Which is why it’d be even better if I were alone-”
It doesn’t take much pushback at all for the man to stop in place and give you a little look, resting his hand on the handle of his sword. “Lady.”
“Oh, please Azuma-san, we’ve had this same conversation for years.”
“I am not to leave you unprotected-”
You turn on your heel to face him. “I want to swim.” The stubborn frown on his face doesn’t move an inch, as your eyes go a little more puppy-esque. You have to know, so you have to lie. It doesn’t bring you joy either, but you might go insane if you have to live with questions for the next twenty years barred in some fancy prison of your future husband’s making. “-Swim right here. Without my very expensive clothing getting ruined.” Still that stone wall refuses to budge, and you throw your last bit of dignity into the ring. If this was anyone else you’d never hear the end of your unrefined words. “So I am going to get undressed.”
“—Ag-lright, just quiet. Your servants hear you and I’ll be lynched in the square.” He sighs deeply, rubbing his hand over his scruff, then gives a little bow. He wants nothing more than to roll his eyes when you offer back a self-satisfied grin, but instead takes a few steps the way you came with a stern look. “I’ll ask one of your maiden servants to make her way over here.”
“Don’t tell her to hurry!” you chant back, only taking off the heaviest layer of clothing once he’s out of sight. You lay it safe out of reach, before kicking off your shoes and socks and waddling towards the big stones again. Sure enough, the river here is a lot deeper than it looks. There’s a ledge in the pool that’s dark enough for almost any kind of monster to hide. This at least means your midnight escape wasn’t a total delusion. The peaceful sway of water grass settles when you dip your toes in the water, and wonder. There’s only a brief few minutes where you sit to think, before a slight thrashing once again captures your attention.
Only when you look up, the river is still, safe for a few tiny fish jumping out of the water. You get up, and tie your skirts up higher to inspect. A large maroon shape darts away into the darkness before you can take a good look, splashing droplets all over the river bank— and you hold your breath. You aren’t crazy. That definitely was much larger than any fish you’ve ever seen, and such a brilliant color that nothing but yokai could possess it. Brighter than all the finest silks, shimmering like a mirror. You wait for what could be a few seconds or an hour, before… someone- something else starts coming up from the darkness.
The olive-golden glitter rises so slow you have no choice but to take in another breath, but luckily don’t scare it away. His light chestnut hair is chopped short-ish, and a strangely human face— with cloudy black eyes, and green gashes either side of his neck— where he hovers below the water surface. It’s not human though. The eyes are big, round and deer-like, nose flatter, and his skin seems almost pearlescent. You don’t have the ability to think if you’re brave or just frozen solid. But whatever the case, the humanesque monster seems to stare for quite a while before judging it safe enough to approach.
It’s only then that you get to see the full extent of his body, scaled from ribs down, with a snake-like bottom half that’s at least longer than your entire body, and ending in a beautiful fish-like tail that feathers out in glittering threads. “Oh…” you breathe, and your arms wrap around yourself for protection, but you still don’t move further. Can’t, more like.
The half-man is close enough -and real enough- to feel a bit nauseating. Close enough to set every hair on your body on end and have your heartbeat a wild patter. But it’s the voice that really makes you feel frigid, gulping for air when that soothing tone comes out of a monstrous mouth. Whatever you had expected to see… wasn’t this. You can’t make out if the near-resemblance is comforting, or more frightening. You shiver at the black tongue, against porcelain white teeth.
“You come back.”
Your nod is hesitant, and you fidget with your jewelry in an attempt to calm your nerves. “I- wanted to see who I’d been talking to, that night. I haven’t slept well since then.”
He hoists himself a little further out of the water onto both hands, clawed and boney. “That was you, right? Makoto?” The brunet only gives a single nod of response, and doesn’t take his dark eyes off you for a second. And you want to laugh, though it isn’t too funny. The scene is just so absurd that you have nothing else to do, but laugh. “Isn’t this weird, talking to each other? How come yokai speak Japanese?” your voice comes, and you only hear how childish you sound when it seems to hang over the river without answer.
Out of all the questions you can ask, that’s what is most important to you? Makoto is gracious as he scoots a little closer once again, scraping his long, heavily muscled tail up over the pebbles and stones. “I listen very many year. Always listen, listen woman, listen warrior, listen you.” He blinks, and blondish lashes are the only normality you have staring back at him. “All can’t speak like me. I -hmm, pras-”
“Practice?” you try, and he clearly agrees when his tail pats happily on the ground. When you smile, he grins back wide and kind, his teeth are much sharper than yours. There’s something so human about the look, that you feel your muscles unwind a little further. You suppose, if he wasn’t so strange looking, with the wrong shades and fins here and there; he’d be quite handsome. He’d go over well with the maiden servants in the clan, too. “Many years, huh? Then- How old are you?”
“Hmmm- old. Very…” He doesn’t seem it, though. You avert your eyes when the water flicks over your feet, slowly dropping your shoes to the side. When you look back, he’s gotten closer yet, and is reaching out his hand towards the edge of the water, towards you. Despite your hesitation, and slight disgust— scaly and seemingly frost bitten pale lips, and unnatural greenish marks along his neck that flare out and in— there’s something that makes you want to follow.
A call, or instinct, to glide into the water and feel it embrace you. “You want come in?” he prompts, softly, and you do. You aren’t much of a swimmer even in high summer, and yet. You find yourself closing the distance and reaching out for his hand, letting your fingertips glide along as you get up to your knees into the water, and then get pulled along further step by unsure step. “Good, come.”
“Ah- it’s cold!” you squeak, but Makoto’s fingers wrap around your hand to support you even when you get almost up to your chest into the river, water crawling up your clothing and making your chest feel tight. “Sh- it's so cold.”
“Water not cold. You warm.” Only when he comes up in front of you do you truly notice how much bigger he is. His hands dwarf yours, and even though you’re higher up, his tail is curved aside to fit on the ground so he stares down at you— covering the sun from your view. He towers over any man you’ve ever seen, and his human-esque top half is still much broader than most. Like a hard plane of muscle, marked with thousands of golden freckles that shift in color the longer you look.
Shivers climb up your legs, and the water seeps your energy out of you. Wrapping your free arm around yourself, you rub some heat into your skin. Those pale lashes flutter as he gives you a half lidded glance, and the freckles that also go across his cheeks color a little more amber. “Lady is … cute.” Large hands suddenly slide along your sides up, before dragging over your shoulders and slowly taking your clothing with it, removing one of a few layers as he leans in. “Here, better without.”
“Oh. No- I don’t- think-”
“Shhh. Better, I know,” he seems to get closer, even though you are too busy staring back into the darkness of his eyes to really notice; and let him untie the robes enough to toss it towards the water edge. Then he pauses, and gets up higher onto his coiled tail to pull another layer off and throw it. Until you’re left standing in only your flimsier linen undergarb, and you’re suddenly much too aware of how peaked your nipples are against the scratchy fabric. But his hands slide up along your thighs to start peeling that off too, when you grab for him and shake your head.
Makoto insists. “No cold when not -this.” His hands keep going up even with your pressure on them.
Having a night encounter with a man is one thing, but you don’t know how you’d ever explain this if someone saw. You can’t dart away in a flash and escape the consequences. You have to go home after this. “I need my clothes to go back—” you quickly beg, ignoring the soft pads of his fingers along your upper thighs, “and if people see- Makoto, please.” Your whole body aches with the cold, and though the touch feels nice, it doesn’t seem right. Your nakedness isn’t a simple thing, even if his is.
“Clothes heavy. Water don’t like clothes.” He turns you around and you lose your footing on the stable flooring, arms quickly clinging onto his wide shoulders for support— it does make his point. Your clothes are incredibly heavy soaked, and pull down on you as strong arms ever so slowly wrap around your waist; nose only a few inches from yours. You can’t help it, your face gets hot. Cheeks, ears, nose- everything starts getting a distracting warm glow that you do your best to ignore, pulling your lip between your teeth. Even so, he seems to look down at you with intrigue, water reflecting in the black of his eyes. “What?”
“You’re very close…” you confess, and also try to release some of the tightness of your embrace— but amusement only brings him closer. He tilts his head, before leaning in until your foreheads meet, and the cooler skin consumes you. “Makoto-sama-”
“Human kiss, hm?” He’s so close, and his mouth is right there -and though you have no clue why, you really want to. The thought is almost as real as the air you breathe, feeling his hands roam all over your body through the soaked linen. Your voice doesn’t make it out when you nod, but he still lifts you into his chest, and your fingertips dig into his shoulders instinctively. “Show me how to kiss? You little one -hmm- good- fit.” You can’t help it, in place of physical heat there’s a sort of aching fire that spreads through your limbs the longer you stay close— and once you start you can’t stop.
Your mouth meets his first, lips moving with yours as his arms squeeze tighter; but when your tongue brushes his lips and meets his, he makes a noise. A low sort of purring that rattles his chest, and has him leaning in harder, trying to bury you into his body as your tongues brush and you suck and moan. His taste is mild but his tongue is heavy, and much longer than yours when it slips further into your mouth. Much longer, bigger, and the wetness soon has you feeling like you can’t breathe.
You pull back with a gasp, staring at the way his long tongue brushes along those sharp teeth before he leans in more. “Again.” You try to make some separation between your two bodies, but clearly Makoto doesn’t care for it when he clamps his hand down around your hip and kisses you more, melting to you as his tongue brushes against yours. He kisses like you’re the first and last thing he’s tasted, even when you moan a little whimper at the lack of air. His cold skin prickles against yours, grinding his waist against you slowly as your head pounds. Still, it feels good.
You don’t ever want to leave— and it’s this exact feeling that has you pulling back for air. You must be out of your mind. He stares with a blown out sort of hunger when you say his name again, and run your fingers along his shoulders up a little. “I’m going to get in trouble if someone finds me here- and- it’s not like we can—” Your cheeks get even hotter when you try to say the words, not even sure if he’d understand. Does a yokai’s understanding include human nighttimes? When he shows no intention of putting you down, you bury your face into his chest, feeling even smaller than before.
Though his skin is cold to the touch, there’s an intense amount of heat surging between you two, almost impossible to ignore— and the way you’re positioned against him, large arms caging you against his waist that pushes into you— doesn’t help anything. You can feel yourself get more slick each time you move your legs. He seems to chuckle when you groan- and as if sensing your train of thought, he rubs his nose along your ear and down the sensitive of your neck with a lower voice. “I want see. Human body so little. Want see it.”
That’s the tipping point. Every fiber in your being aches to obey, to let yourself get touched, seen, taken by him— and your mouth drops open a sliver as you struggle to find words. Your feet can’t reach the bottom here, and Makoto seems content to keep rubbing against you in a slow sea-saw motion that makes your center feel entirely hot. And eventually you crack. Blinking up at him, you breathe a faint “okay”, and let him turn you around. His hands are quick in their exploration, sliding under the last layer up your thighs, squeezing every few inches as he goes up. When he gets to your center, there’s a little flutter of his eyes, before those digits slide in and brush over your pussy, rubbing just soft enough to leave you wanting. “Warm,” he breathes, and then pulls you a little closer. “You do me too.”
As he pushes your last layer of clothing open fully and starts sliding it off your shoulders, you allow yourself just a little curiosity. He’s handsome, and he’s close, and you just feel so needy. Your breathing is still short against his chest, but your numb fingers glide down his sides with purpose as the muscles flex under your touch. His chest rumbles when you whine at the prodding and circling of his fingers around your dripping pussy, and you glide your hands down to his tail. The touch feels a little coarse, but he’s warmer there, and when you rub your palm over the area he’d been grinding into your waist, your fingers feel a softer, spongey slit. Makoto hisses when you rub a finger up and down, and you feel more heat burn onto your face. “Here?”
The question is answered when your finger slips in and is all hot, and something bumps you. But he picks you up and with one swift dash, lays you down on the river bank to get up between your legs. You need to open wide to allow him to fit, and can only whine out his name when the weight of his body over yours pushes you into the cold stones. He licks the air a few times, before grunting. You wish you could do anything other than just flush and look away when his hands descend onto your tits and start touching and rubbing, and the pressure leaves you all exposed. But it doesn’t take long for his attention to shift back to between your legs, and now with a better angle, he sinks down to nose below your navel. “Hmn-”
The purring is paired with a flaring of the gashes on his neck, and his eyes roll back. When his hands spread your legs up as wide as you can go, he nuzzles into you, and that long black tongue peeks out to lick slowly. You can’t help it, you moan. Loudly. It feels like a million pinpricks are traveling your body, as the very long, heavy tongue drags a long strip up your center, and then the tip of it laps at the wetness coating your hole— that quickly gets pushed open further with each sloppy lick. His tongue pushes inside you as he sucks and the feeling of something so hot and so- squirmy makes you squeeze your eyes closed. It’s too strange, but you can’t pull back.
Your hands even reach for his head to tangle your fingers in his hair and whine, your back curling from the floor. You’re drenched- no longer just water as your pussy clenches around his tongue that he forces in to lick places you’ve never been licked. Makoto wraps an arm around your thigh to pull it over his shoulder when you curl and wiggle against him- you can’t help it, it feels so good. Everything’s so sensitive, like your entire body’s been doused into hot water and you’re drowning— only difference is, you’re actively longing for more.
It’s better than any drink-induced daze, late night tussle with a stable boy. It’s even better than your own touch and mind, because he’s just so big and you’re so full, so hot. Your hips grind against his face when he sucks again, and his nose brushes your most sensitive area— and try not to let the water into your mouth when you yerk again. “Ah, ahg, Makoto-sama. I can’t- I can’t handle this much, please. Oh dear gods, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Ah-ughhh, f- ah, please -keep going.”
Your lower belly is wound so tight, and even the sound of his breathing against you feels good. You could melt into the floor with how much slick is coating your insides, dripping out of you around the suction on your cunt. And Makoto doesn’t have any intention of moving. Your mind aches— you want more. You want to wrap your entire body around him and come apart— as his large hands squeeze your thighs tight and wrap them around his head like he can’t get deep enough.
The sloppy, wet sounds of his face burying between your legs to stuff you full of tongue, licking and sucking at your sensitive pussy. It has your muscles so tight as you roll your hips against him, and you can’t stop shaking. “Oh, I’m g-gonna cum— I can’t! I can’t. It feels so- gud. Ah, ahh. What is happening?” When your fingers clench in his hair, he lets out a long, animalistic groan as he glances back up. Still his tongue isn’t fully inside you. “I can’t- Makoto, I can’t!” Even though he’s reaching further than fingers can, he’s still able to fold the deft black muscle over your clit and slot his lips around it to suck. Hard.
And your body can’t handle any more. While his heartbeat pulses through his tongue against your clit, everything goes white, your muscles clenching so hard it hurts. And your heart beats so hard it feels like it stops altogether. If you make any noise at all, you can’t hear yourself over the pounding in your head, rattling your body so hard that nothing except you and him exist. Your eyes are shut until you’re aware of how he grunts against you and pinpricks get too unbearable. But he doesn’t stop, lifting your body to his face and allowing you to ride out your orgasm against him for what feels like forever.
When you feel like you can hear yourself breathe again, you unwrap your legs from around his head. “I thought my heart was going to explode. If Hitsu knew…”
Your eyes are teary when they flutter open against the light, and the black abysses that stare back are barely narrowed slits. Dipping his gills into water briefly before getting up above you again, Makoto seems different. There’s something predatory that wasn’t there before. You can’t help but go quiet. As his hands drag your body down a few inches, you swallow. “Are you okay? Sorry. I feel like I should thank you— I haven’t come that hard, ever. I don’t know about yokai but I don’t think I could feel that good.” His muscular body covers most of the river from your view, but you find it almost too hard to look at him. You’re still hot; but your skin feels cold.
His fingers slide down along your side when he lets out a little groan. “Yokai don’t do this.” Then he goes to brush his face and mouth along your throat, and you shiver a little at the feeling. “So pretty. Warm. I like warm. Stay with me?” You let him grind himself on top of you and embrace him the best you can, only fitting around the narrow of his waist, but after just a second you yerk up. Makoto pulls his head back when he notices, and you get another brush against your slit that makes a cold shiver run up your spine. Where the slit sat before, a dick has emerged- and your mouth drops open a little. The thing is vaguely dick shaped, but has spurs at the base like an anchor, is more pointed at the tip; and it also pulses with each breath.
“Pretty warm body, good. Smell good too.”
You can’t help but swear when you avert your eyes, and instead wrap your arms back around his neck. “Oh, fuck.” Surely, this is where you’d draw the line. Right? But the touching of that against you doesn’t make your body react the way you think it should. The prodding along your inner thighs just leaves you feeling empty, like you’d like to start all over again. Makoto grunts out a little breath when your tits brush his chest, before staring down at you.
After a few seconds of studying your face, and probably the heat that’s flooding your features, he licks his lips. “Human men have… hm-”
“Yes,” you quickly say. He smacks his lips and grinds against you again. “They uhm- put it inside.” If the answer shocks him, he certainly doesn’t show it— looking like he’s barely holding back from crashing his face back to yours and turning you over to fuck you like the begging whore you feel like. The longer he just keeps his solid body against yours, the harder it is to ignore yourself getting wet again against the pulsing of his cock. The purring, clicking noise coming from him feels nice, and you pull at him. “You’re not done yet, right? I can do more.”
You angle your hips a little, and try not to sound so desperate when looking up at him for a kiss. “Please- put it inside me. I- I want to feel you.” Your hands slide over the rougher scales down between you two to reach for him, and hesitate a little when his cock is heavy and covered in some sort of slime; and it seems to follow your touch. But you’re too far past embarrassment to truly care, and Makoto groans when you wrap your fingers around him to squeeze softly. “I need you.” You really don’t know what’s wrong with you. You feel like your body’s being torn apart. You want to be filled, fucked full of him, and get pumped round of his kids— all things that you shouldn’t be thinking about. You didn’t with any men you’ve been with. You can’t.
Even though you know you’re being ludicrous, when he goes in for a kiss, you cling onto him hard; digging your nails into his back. You don’t even know if he could fit. His cock is proportionate to him- but it’s big and long and girthy enough to put any man to shame. You should care. You should care that you could regret being filled up to your breaking point, but you’re just so, so desperate. You might die if he doesn’t fuck you. You can feel it. “Please, please, please—”
—You slide a few feet across the floor, angry thrashing scaring you up into a flounder as you breathe in deeply. Makoto’s dragged off of you and down before you can even blink, water splashing everywhere; and you struggle back to the riverbank with wide eyes. Now you’re no longer side by side with another person- no, creature- you suddenly feel the entire ache of the cold water. The shortness of breath, the numbness of your lips and hands and feet. You feel the painful sting of your back where you’ve been sliced by a dozen sharp rocks, struggling to keep your head above water. And you feel the soreness between your legs of having been filled by something too big.
When you get over the pure shock, you notice the struggling has stopped, and you notice your creature’s golden shape next to someone else. They glitter and glint even in the low light of the afternoon, and you furrow your brows. The second shape only gets clearer when the light shines through the water and colors the flickers a blinding maroon. Your tongue feels cold.
Your arms wrap over your chest and cover up the best you can when Makoto surfaces again and gives you a kind smile, but you take a slight step back. His long, pale lashes flutter when he reaches out a hand. “Sorry. Rin don’t want to bleed you.” Your back and your painful scrapes are the lesser of your worries though. Whatever spell you were under, you’ve been snapped out of. You feel entirely strange- enough to have hot tears welling up along your waterline. What the hell have you been dragged into? You were going to… do things with some monster you didn’t know existed until today. Your brain screams and pounds, and your stomach is entirely flipped. But the brunet softly continues. “He don’t like I take you. Can you come here?”
“No.” Your hair now sticks to your neck and chest, and every second you’re out of the water, is one where the feeling comes back to your limbs. Your arms are so heavy as you keep them up. “There’s more of you?” You don’t know what you expected, really. Maybe you should have known. Maybe you should have questioned. But how could you have truly known?
“Yes.” he answers after a beat, and swims up a little closer with a frightening ease. “Shhh, okay. He will come. You stay.” You try to tell him not to, but he dips below the water surface before you get the chance to ask him not to, splashing water all over as he does— and you don’t know what else to do but to stare at the small bubbles that pop as peach blossoms wash over your feet. Before too long, the reddish shape surfaces alongside Makoto. He lingers in the deep of the river however; fiery eyes zeroing in on you without blinking at all. He stays submerged from the nose down, and you can’t help but feel too watched.
Your heartbeat doesn’t calm when the brunet swims up closer, and you take a little breath. “Who’s that?”
“Rin,” Makoto softly, sweetly answers, as if he was expecting the question all along. He smiles wide like a saint, and you have to ignore the voice in the back of your head that tells you to get back in the water. His hand reaches out though, and you almost want to. Almost. Your arms and back break out in goosebumps. Then Makoto looks back at the other yokai, and gives you a smiley once-over. It takes you a little too long to recognize something else that plays over his features though. A strange sort of knowing, like he’s seeing right through you. “You Rin’s mate.”
You don’t know why you don’t get up and run.
“Come back in?”
Only that the voice in the back of your head gets more unbearable. You wrap your hands over your ears, and try to hang on.

His Prize
Kinktober Day - 5 (Dacryphilia)
Rin Matsuoka × Fem! Reader
SMUT 18+ (All characters are aged up)
Where your swimmer boyfriend comes home after winning another championship
🔞NSFW🔞 facesitting, squirting, dacryphilia, overstimulation, unprotected sex
"a-ah! r-rin 's too much!" Your cries were unheard by your maroon haired boyfriend, who had you sit on his face the moment he came home after winning his championship, gold medal around his neck.
"I know baby, I know" he says his voice low and husky. "But I want more" His fingers continue to move in and out of your tightness, matching the rhythm of his tongue's assault on your clit.
You had already came atleast thrice but everytime you would try to get up, he would pull you back on his face.
You could feel yourself on the brink of another earth shattering orgasm as he took your clit into his mouth and sucked on it, his sharp teeth flicking against it making your toes curl.
You had your fingers tangled in his hair, one hand gripping tightly around the headboard and thighs caging his face underneath. You could feel tears of pleasure rolling down your cheek as he continues his assualt even after you cum again.
"One more" he growled against your pussy, his voice rough with desire. He continued his ministrations, sucking harshly on your sensitive nub while his fingers pushed in and out relentlessly.
You could feel a weird feeling building up in your stomach, something you've never felt before
"r-rin stop feel like 'm gonna pee!" Tears of pleasure continue streaming down your cheeks as the sensation in your stomach keeps increasing.
"Shhh, it's okay baby just let me love you" He continues to lap at your swollen clit, coaxing more sounds of pleasure from your lips.
His fingers continue to dug into your thighs, as his fingers and tongue continue the assault, making your eyes roll to the back of your head.
"r-rinn ahh!" You moan loudly and end up squirting on his face, something you've never done before.
"That's it baby" He groans while drinking up every last drop of your squirt.
You try to get up from his face, but this time he flips you around so you're laying on your back with him towering over you.
"You were such a good girl for me" He says while kissing away your tears, you could still feel your lower regions throbbing again as he flicks your clit with the tip of his cock.
"My baby's so fucking pretty when she cries" He says and pushes his whole length inside you causing you to gasp and let out more tears.
You find yourself clinging onto him while crying and moaning his name as he thrusts harder, his cock reaching the deeper and deeper with each thrust.
"You like that baby? You like that don't you?" He says while biting your neck with his shark like teeth while pounding into you faster.
You were too overwhelmed with pleasure to even reply, only tears flowing down your flushed cheeks while you moan his name continuously.
His gold medal sways around his neck with each of his thrust, sweat dripping down his forehead to yours as he watches you cry and squirm from pleasure underneath him.
"Such a pretty doll for me, aren't you princess?" He says while kissing your tear stained cheeks softly, while pounding into you mercilessly.
You were his prize after all, so he was gonna ravage you the whole night.

High school Au
I never knew I’d come to like high school romances and the fact it’s the most cliche one: popular boy x quiet girl? Bro i was playing this one cai bot (cause i’m delusional) and there was this popular boy bot. I was like??? Ajdbxjehnen. You know, I’m almost graduating already and in the animes, they’re just starting their first year of high school meanwhile I’m already there at the end of everything. So here, I’m gonna share a prompt with you guys and uh this is mostly what i do at highschool back then:
Characters: various x readers.
Word: 1.1k
Warning: can be ooc. A train of thoughts so it’s messy. Typos are to beware of. Broken grammar. Unedited. First draft.
Imagine you’re an average student. Sure, you did have friends, you did your work splendidly, and although you’re not an academically smart or active student, the teachers still remembered you pretty much. You never played in the popular kids’ circles since most of the time, those students would outcast others who tried to be part of the circle when they had nothing to offer. It’s like a sore thumb sticking out and you’re just there, supposedly ruining their aesthetics with your ‘weird’ and ‘boring’ personality.
But you’re not bullied as well! You’re just very much a wallflower that if you were to blend in with the geek kids, you’ll stand out too much. Yet if you blend with the cool kids, you’re too bland.
That was until he came.
At first, he found you to be a rather boring person since you didn’t talk much yet when you did, you had the whole audience staring at you. By that I mean, when you came forth to perform a speech or any speaking assignment in front of the class, you knew what to do to make attention land on you. Even when you stepped down from the stage, that charm immediately vanished and you returned to nobody.
You would still be able to make lots of acquaintances with lots of people although they’re necessarily not your friends. When he asked others if they knew you by one coincidental day in which he didn’t even realize your image was playing in his head, and he’d unconsciously asked about you, others would tell him, ‘Yeah, I know her.’
And despite always downplaying things, he would sometimes scroll through your social media account by accident. He claimed that he did it because your recent post of you hanging out at your friend’s birthday party showed up on his feed (none of you followed each other since he was too conscious to even follow you), he saw that you posted mostly of yourself and of your friends. Well, perhaps there weren’t that many posts on your account since you didn’t exactly use it that much, but when you did post something, he would check on your profile to see if he missed out on your other previous posts. Sometimes, he would accidentally even click on your story, leaving a trail of his user visible on your history. Before he knew it, he already cursed himself for accidentally clicking on your story, but damn did the view you posted on the story seemed awesome.
Eventually, as time passed by, he grew to be more and more curious of you. There were instances where he would offer to be the leader of an assignment group just to take you as his member (he promised it was because he wanted your usefulness and all the skills you could offer that could help boost this assignment’s grade, even if his other friends disagreed).
And during sport’s day, where everyone was basically bathed in their murky and awful sweats, he would find you around the canteen area, attempting to buy drinks without getting busted by the teachers since it wasn’t recess yet. He would use this as a chance and made his way around to the canteen, showing up beside you and bought two drinks. One for him and one for you. He left the drink on the counter, in which you grabbed it and called out to him, and he turned around and spoke, “Oh, that’s for you.” With that, he ran away (thinking he was so smooth, huh?)
Sometimes, he would find you standing in the hallway after school, staring down at the courtyard on your way home. You would often take another route and it would change most of the times just to stall your time, not to go home too soon and enjoy the quietness of the school’s ground when there’s no disturbances. He got intrigued as he noticed your constantly changing route and would follow you from behind, a few feet away of course and acted like he was going home through that route too. Although, in fact he was just curious and wanted to know what you’d be doing after school if you’re not active or part of any activity group.
He would snicker when he watched you wait for someone to come and pick you up from school and you were sitting down on the floor. There was a huge black fat cat that came crawling towards you and sat on your thighs without your prior notice, making a claim on your lap as though it’s the cat’s decision whether or not it could sleep there. You’d panic yet you couldn’t push him off and looked around for help since your pick up had already arrived and you needed to get home soon. He showed up from the corner and helped you take the cat away from your lap. You’d thank him and left already, hurrying to your pick-up driver. He smiled friendly, although the cat glared at him.
And finally, he began to talk to you. Little by little, one by one, conversations between you two were exchanged. He didn’t think you’d actually have some complexity in your character despite always displaying yourself to be a quiet and boring person. You can be loud at times, weird, witty, and sometimes awkward and just embarrassing.
Slowly, the two of you became friends. And he didn’t acknowledge the fact that his heart was already advancing beyond the word ‘friendship’, it’d grown far too unsalvageable. But whenever he saw your oblivious smile to his feelings, he wanted to squish your cheek and pull you to a kiss to actually get the fact drilled in your head that he liked you a lot. But he didn’t and simply laughed at you whenever you’re oblivious to his advances, ruffling your hair to a mess. He would do anything to tease you and annoy you but never to actually lay a hand on you and hurt you like that.
He would just have to wait for the right time to say that he liked you.
Thus, he waited, and waited, and waited…
And now you’re here, celebrating that you’re finally graduating. And he would finally come to you, yet immediately turned cowardly to actually say something to you since you were smiling that day, taking pictures with almost everyone—even the ones you didn’t like because you didn’t want to leave regrets behind. He didn’t want to ruin anything for you, thus he simply remained silent and threw a fist of flour and poured it over to you out of playfulness in which he’d kept that grip of flour behind his back already this whole time.

If anyone ever cat calls you or harasses you in any way expect him to hurt them later
Dolph

he would actually die on the hill of not telling you he likes you
but at least you reciprocate and you told him instead
he didn't get to respond though, cause you ran away as soon as you were done telling him
and you left him standing there like ._. and then made him nervous because now he has to find you to tell you (nod at you)
he mopes in the bath that night because he doesn't wanna tell you but he also really likes you
makoto has to be a wingman for a bit and guide him to you to tell you he likes you too
"i like you, too..." he mumbled, averting his gaze to look anywhere but at your face. you blinked owlishly at him before breaking out into a large grin. "oh, that's a relief, i was scared you'd reject me so i just ran." haru cracked a small smile in return, sending you into a spiral because it was such a rare sight and it's directed at you. he nodded his head to the school gates and held a pinky out for you to link your own with as you head home. "thanks for telling me. i wouldn't have said anything otherwise," he said flatly. "typical," you joked, opting to hold his hand properly instead of holding pinkies.
── 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐎𝐊𝐀 𝐑𝐈𝐍.
bright red shark man after you confess your love and make a run for it
probably chases after you but gives you a solid 30 second head start cause he's in shock
will eventually find you and hug you to stop you but probably ends up pushing both of you to the ground
he'll yell his confession to you and not get off the floor just to make sure you won't run away again
sousuke probably has this on film and will play it if you ever marry because he thinks its hysterical
rin wants him to delete it and will be asking until the end of the world
"wait!" he yelled breathlessly, sprinting after you as fast as his legs could take him. "you didn't let me respond!" you turned around with a frown. you thought you'd managed to escape in time... "what- AGH!" his body slammed into yours and knocked you to the ground. your book bag spilled your school supplies all over the path and you secretly prayed no one would step on them. "i like you, too!" "don't yell at me, i can hear you when you're in my face," you pouted.
── 𝐘𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐙𝐀𝐊𝐈 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐊𝐄.
that audio with the loud ass "huh??" over and over again is what's goin on in this man's head
he will stand there like a minecraft man waiting for everything to load properly
you're long gone by the time he registers what happened and he'll lay awake at night thinking about it
will come find you in secret because he doesn't want samezuka swim team to bully him
also he wants to gatekeep you-
he wants you all to himself when he finally finds you again to tell you he likes you as well
"hey." you turned from your locker to see sousuke standing beside you, leaning on the wall. "hi," you responded, about to sling your bag over your shoulder until he offered his hand to take it for you. "you don't have to." "i want to." "if you insist..." you mumbled, letting him take your bag and walk you out of school. "i like you, too, by the way," he added nonchalantly. "start with that next time," you said, nudging him in the side with your elbow.
── 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐇𝐈.
screams after you've run away and chases after you relatively fast
the whole school thinks you guys are insane because why is he chasing you like you're in primary school??
will also scream his feelings for you in front of everyone which is probably part of why you ran in the first place-
he's so hype, he's gonna take you on a date RIGHT NOW
and his family are happy that y'all are finally together because he wouldn't shut up about you
but also he might talk about you even more ._.
"stop, come back!" he cries, ditching his bag to lessen the weight as he sprints after you. you don't look back as you keep running, hoping to avoid public embarrassment. "i like you back!" he yells. "don't yell it for everyone to hear!" you whined, slowly coming to a stop and sitting on a bench to catch your breath. "but it got you to stop," he reasoned, sitting beside you and putting his hands behind his head. "i thought you were gonna reject me, i wanted to escape that shame but now you've embarrassed both of us," you huffed, crossing your arms over your chest. "oh."
── 𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐀 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐘𝐀.
he would catch your wrist before you could run away, man's got fast reflexes
cut to that boyish ass grin he had in the high speed movie because dude is so happy
but a little bit mad cause he wanted to say it first
will tease you a bit for trying to run though, so you should stay far away from him after he's said his piece
he won't let you forget that you tried to run before he could say anything
has this day documented to remind you of your mistakes
"oi, where do you think you're going, huh?" his hand encased your wrist as you turned to run. "didn't even let me respond, damn." you sheepishly turned around and your gaze fixed onto his hand that refused to release your wrist. "just reject me and get it over with," you sighed. "what? nah, i like you, too. why would i reject you?" he wondered, ruffling his fluffy hair. "i don't know, i thought you didn't like me," you mumbled. "was gonna avoid the embarrassment." "you were gonna avoid a boyfriend," he teased, turning you around so he could sling an arm over your shoulders.

Anon asks. Free guys with Haru, Makoto, Rin, Asahi, Kadea, Hiyori, and Ikuya
Taking care (nsfw) fem(s/o) sexy time 😆 lol
A/n: Sorry, Anon. I'm not sure what you mean by "take care of him," but I tried, lol.
Hope you enjoy 😉 18+🔞
Haru After a calm day of rest, you told Haru you wanted to take care of him. Haru sat at the edge of the bed naked, watching you approach him only in your underwear. "Um y/n... how do you want to start?' He questions your motives. "Nothing, just let me take control today. "You said in a playful yet cute tone. You get on your knees, placing yourself between him. "Ah! " haru flinches as you grabbed his exposed cock. "Wow you must really wanted me to do this♡." You took his already stiffened manhood fully in your mouth. "*sighs*" Haru tries everything in his power, too suppressed his voice. His voice was coy, only letting thin and soft grunts escape as you stimulated him. "*sighs* So this is what you mean by take care... I'll accept this..."
Makoto Relaxing in bed after taking a shower, you felt the Urge to take care of Makoto. "Ahh♡ y/n, I'm getting so embarrassed!" he moaned as you Vigorously Strok his cock. The Sudden rush of intense pleasure made Makoto whole body weak. "* Sigh* Ahh.. I...I...damn it" he feels himself getting closer to his climax. Taking your time on every inch on him, Your movements was fluid yet intense, provoking a great reaction out of him, but all good things come to an end, and you suddenly stop. "Huh?!" Makoto confused and shocked at your actions. "Makoto.♡" You giggled as you lower your body, positioning your hips and aligning your wet entrance with him.
" Oh...I'll try to last a little longer"
Rin: Cuddling together on a lazy Sunday afternoon, you wanted to take care of Rin. "Oh," he sighed, releasing any tension in his body. "I should let you do this more often....fuck are you purposely trying to drive me crazy?" He covers his face, masking his flush cheeks. He watches you adjust your hips to accommodate his length. "Rin... I'm going to start moving.. ahhh..rin♡" lowering your body ,passionately kissing him. You lift yourself up, looking down at him, eager to take him more. You fasten your pace stimulating Rins cock. "Ahh" he gave a breathless groans as he squeezes your lower back, Prompting a spine-tingling Reaction on your part.
"I want more of you....am I being too greedy?"
Kaede
After a long and eventful date at the beach, Kaede wants to take care of you. "damn... I needed this. "He grips the back of your knees pumping harder, while you tease your clit. "Ahhmm♡" you try your best to conceal your moans. "You're drooling, you love it that much?" he squeezes your breast, pitching your nipple to get a rise out of you. "S-shut up.. it feels so good, " your gaze was filled with lust.
"Hm? So you're being honest today... I like that side of you"
Asahi
On a chilly night, Asahi decides to take care of you. Soft moans and grunts filled the room. You gripped both his forearms as he pumped deeper into you. "Y/n, you're driving me crazy."His voice was firm yet gentle. You moaned, feeling a mixture of emotions inside. "Asahi♡..more!" You widen your legs, giving him more access to your womanhood. "Man.. I love how much you're taking all of me." He briefly stops thrusting to come down and kiss you. "You're so pretty... do you like it here??" He grips your hips pushy himself further inside you.
"Ahh.. I'm so happy I'm the only one who can see you like this"
Hiyori:
After spending a wonderful day with Hiyori, you wanted to show your appreciation so you take care of him. "Y/n.. ahh♡. " Hiyori falls onto his back, panting, Gripping your head as he tries his best not to move his hips. "Ahh.. i can't hold it in." He loves every moment of this, watching you take every inch of him , but he hates how sensitive he is right now. "Y/n... you're so cute... I'm a mess." The room echoes with soft moans, whippers, short breaths, and muffled cries from you and Hiyori. Hiyori's hand pressed on to his mouth, concealing whatever sound he made. "Ahh, I'm so embarrassed at my own voice," he thought as he looked down at you.
"I'm going to have to return the favor when you're done."
Ikuya:
Laying down together watching a movie, Ikuya Decide to take initiative and take care of you. "Your body's warm and squishy." he rubs your bare breast softly, pinching your sensitive nipple while leaving kisses along your jaw. "Ikuya...please♡ " You craved him to give you more love. "Ha.. someone's impatient... Today, I'm taking my sweet time. " he kisses you, entering his tongue in your mouth, loving and demanding for more. You felt overwhelmed by this sensation. "Mmhh ♡" you muffled a quiet moan against Ikuya's lips. "Y/n..." He carefully glided his finger down your stomach to your crotch, finding his way underneath your damp panties. You awaited this very moment. The anticipation was killing you. He caresses your ear.
"Don't worry, I know you want it, I'll give you everything"

Pretty Fish
Summary: Why does Haru love fish so much? And why did he think saying you look like a fish was a compliment? [Mean] Haruka 'Haru' Nanase x Reader I kind of lost myself on this one tbh. Sorry :(
It kind of just left his mouth without him even thinking about it. He didn't mean anything bad about it; he meant it as a compliment, but it seemed you didn't see it that way.
"You look like a Goldfish."
You look at him, absolutely silent, not knowing what to say. Haru doesn't say anything else; Genuinely he just said it offhandly.
"What?"
He looks up at you, tilting in his head, "You look like a Goldfish?"
"Why would you say that?"
He hums, his face distorting in confusion, "Because you look like a Goldfish?"
"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" You step closer, crossing your arms and tapping your foot.
Haru quickly picked up on that you were upset and his eyes darted around the room. "Um... Yes?"
"Goldfish aren't pretty-"
"I think they are pretty."
You frown and Haru sinks into his seat, not knowing where this conversation was going. You realized maybe you were overreacting, but why a fish? Why not a koala or a panda fox? That would be understandable, but a fish? Though you should have expected that from Haruka.
"But a fish?"
"I like fish."
You roll your eyes, "How would you like if I compared you to a fish?"
"Nice."
You frown, but you start to laugh. It was so stupid because you knew Haru meant no harm by it, but it was just so weird. You had never been compared to a fish, but it was so Haru. Haru looked at you a little concerned, but you waved him off.
"I'm sorry. Goldfish are ugly though."
"Not all."
"You'd know that, wouldn't you? You know what, you look like a guppy."
"Do I?"
"Yeah... Yeah you do. In a cute way."
"Of course. Always."
You smile, feeling a little foolish for your earlier comment. You should have been honored that the fish-lover man would compare you to something he loves so much, but if he ever said you looked like a goldfish again, you'd probably gut the jerk.

Pro Swimmer! Sousuke x (f!) Reader
Warning: teeny-weeny Free! spoiler (bump in Sousuke’s swimming career)
"And make sure he's back home by 8:30 the latest! Got it?"
"Yea...I- I got it," Sousuke groaned.
His eyes never met yours, feeling more and more intimidated under your intense gaze. He always found you kinda hot when you were all riled up but he knew his rights to wandering eyes were revoked. He instead opted to scan the plain walls and various apartment doors in the hallway. And occasionally down at the pointed finger you had jabbed in his chest.
You were just about to continue with your lecture when your son chirped up.
"Come on dad! If we don't go now, the lines will get too longggg," he whined, tugging at his father's shirt.
Sousuke was well aware that the lines at the amusement park were already out the gates and that he would more than likely be ushered to the front anyway, but he couldn't miss this opportunity to get the hell outta there.
"Alright Zai," Sousuke announces, "tell your mom bye and we'll go."
Without wasting another second, your 5 year old son grins up at you with his adorable smile and chubby cheeks,"Bye mommy!"
"Bye baby," you say sweetly, bending down to straighten his clothes. "Behave yourself ok? And don't eat too much junk. Remember your manners and don't go off on your own. Mommy's number is on that bracelet, if you get los-"
"Yes mommy. I got it!"
You sigh as you stand back up. "Okay...well have fun!"
"We will!" Zai yells behind him as he runs down the hall.
"I'll see you later," you call out again.
"Yea!" This time he's already turned to corner and is probably smashing at the elevator buttons.
Now its just you and Sousuke...
"Uh yh, bye Y/N. I'll be sur-"
SLAM!!
He would be lying if he said that the door shut in his face didn't hurt like a bitch. But what was he really expecting?
He just sighed and turned on his heel, hands deep in his pocket, fidgeting with the small box inside.
His mind drifted to the times when the air between you two were comfortable and loving, not tense and filled with hatred. When you would practically throw yourself on him when he came home and he would shower you in kisses. You were with him through all the ups and downs. His glory days in high school where he was among the top swimmers in his age group to his unforeseen shoulder injury which had everything around him crashing down. He became so depressed. But you stuck with him through it all. When he finally fully recovered at the end of university, he was quickly climbing the ranks once again. You, of course, were there to cheer him on. When he qualified for the Olympic games, he had recruiters and trainers from all over the world ringing his line. He got a great opportunity abroad and you eagerly pushed him to take it on. He was very reluctant about leaving you, but you quickly dismissed his worries and happily waved him goodbye, knowing that he would regret his decision later if he declined.
When he did come to visit, having some quality alone time was always on the top of your to-do list and departing from each other once again was the hardest. But for the most part, you guys made the long-distance relationship work. Everything worked...until it didn't!! :0
(sorry, I'm so dramatic)
It had been a week since he flew back out after visiting you for a few days. Sousuke had just wrapped up a small interview and he was still seated in the leather interview chair when he pulled out his phone.
BABYGIRL 💞
Please call me.
3:07pm
Sousuke slipped out his seat and through the door, leaning cooly outside against the concrete studio building ensuring that he was out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the busy pedestrians.
Bzzz Bzzz Bz-
"Hey Baby, missing me already?" He smirked.
"Hi...well yes...but that's not why i called..."
Damn did he love the sound of your voice, but what's with the worried stutter?
"What's up?"
"Please don't get upset..."
Sousuke frowned. Don't get upset? He straightened up his posture against the building, bringing to phone closer to his ear.
"What is it?"
"..."
"Y/n, what is it?"
You cringed at the absence of your usual nicknames. Your hands were clammy as you desperately tried not to drop the phone. Your heart was racing at a mile a minute and everytime you glanced at the positive tests decorated all over your bathroom counter, its sped up. You had to remind yourself that it takes two to tango and NONE of this is entirely your fault! It's not your fault....It's not your fault...
"I'm pregnant."
Sousuke froze, "y-you're what?"
"Pregnant Sousuke...pregnant," Your voice cracked as you whispered it out, clutching the phone impossibly tighter.
"How?"
Your back which was once slouched over the bathroom counter straightened up. Your face wrinkled into a frown and the tears running down your face felt hot with rising anger.
TF do u mean howw? That stupid question made you want to jump through the nearest window and the irritatingly calm way he asked such bullshit, had you foaming at the mouth.
"How Sousuke?!? You tell me!"
"But we're NOT ready for a child y/n," his voice was still low but stern, "We're still young and I'm finally at the top, there's no way i can raise a child right now.”
You quieted down, "So what are you saying?"
"I think you know y/n."
No. You had to hear him say it.
"Well I'm keeping it, so WHAT are you saying? Are you going to help me raise our child or not?!"
Sousuke sighed, "No y/n, I'm sor-"
Call ended.
* * *
After that phone call, a week had gone by without either of you hearing from the other. You were picking up around your apartment as it had started to reflect the messiness of your mind.
You decided to turn on the TV for some background noise and coincidentally it was on the celebrity entertainment channel.
"Ahh well at least i can see what a catastrophe other people's lives are ..." you murmured to yourself.
Snatching up some sticky candy wrappers from the kitchen counter, you headed to the trash partially listening to the overly enthusiastic TV hosts.
"Aaaand guess what folks?!? Next up we'll be talking about the rising athletic star SOUSUKE YAMAZAKI caught getting steamy with 3 Victoria Secret Models!!!" the man said.
"After securing his place at the Olympics games, it seems he got the surprise party of a lifetime!! And paparazzi caught ALL the sexy hot tub scenes so stay tuned!!" his co host added.
You felt sick and not just from the growing child inside you.
You wanted to look away but you couldn't help but stare at the images on your future child's father feeling and rubbing up on 3 other women in bikinis.
That son-of-a-bitch...
Right before the show faded to a commercial break, you heard, "haha wait, didn't he mention being in a relationship recen-?"
You realized that cutting people off was starting to become a bad habit of yours, but there was no way you would listen to any more of that.
"He sure does move on fast," you muttered.
You couldn't help but wonder if he had those girls or even others on the side while you two were together as well.
The way his hands would grab at ur body eagerly showed that he must've been more than touch starved when he was away, but rn,
"It's alright Y/N. It's alright," you repeated to yourself. "He's not a part of your life anymore. That's just how it is. You'll be an amazing single mom. You have supportive friends and family. You'll be fine. You didn't and still don't need him..."
Now you're crying.
You try to blame it on the pregnancy hormones but you know better.
You curl up on the sofa, not having the strength to drag yourself to your own bed, and continue to shed your tears. You've been getting used to the sensation of crying your eyes out, it has become a more frequent thing since the call and sweetie, you had many more crying sessions to come...
* * *
Five years later, here you are.
When Sousuke finally reached out after 3 years of complete radio silence, begging you to allow him into your son's life, you didn't hesitate to drop a cold-hearted "No."
Who tf does he think he is?!?
However, it was your friends and family who were the ones to urge you to reconsider, saying that it would be best for Zai. You were still reluctant but eventually gave in, only for your child's sake.
Sousuke didn't visit too often, but when he did, he was always bearing expensive gifts and a fun day out.
You hated to see your baby go off with that bag of shit but you were kinda happy for Zai. He was spoilt rotten whenever Sousuke came around to add more toys to his collection. He really enjoyed riding in his dad's luxury sports cars and visiting his over-the-top condos. However, you raised him well and he knew when it was time to go home.
You sometimes felt bad knowing that you couldn't afford all those things for Zai yourself but he never fussed about wanting to stay longer with his affluent father as he knew that his own home with you was just as rich in unconditional love. 🥰
Zai sat on a bench, swinging his tiny legs as he chowed down a corndog.
"All worn out kiddo?" Sousuke asked while taking a seat beside him.
"No! I still have to go on a few more rides so i can be named King of Fun Land!!" he exclaimed, stretching out his arms dramatically.
Sousuke chuckled as he grabbed a tissue to wipe the ketchup off his son's mouth.
"Well your mom made an appointment to get your hair cut so we have to finish up here quickly ok?"
"Ok!!" Zai chirped.
"Uhm...speaking of your mom...."
Zai was too enchanted by the tasty carnival food to notice the change in his father's behaviour and how he shifted awkwardly on the bench beside him, trying to find the right words.
"..does she ever talk about me?"
He felt like a complete loser asking such a question to a 5 year old, but he couldn't help it.
Despite his nonchalant attitude, he really does regret what he did. He wants to see his son grow and learn, he wants to be a part of his life, he wants your forgiveness and he wants to know if he even has a chance at gaining your forgiveness.
"I'm not allowed to repeat what mommy says. She says they're bad words and i shouldn't use them."
There it is. He has no chance. He knew that. But the confirmation still sliced his heart.
"Oh alright kiddo. Don't worry about it," Sousuke ruffled his son's hair and lowered his voice, "And uhh don't bother tell her that i asked."
* * *
Zai continued to have a fun day with his father. After his haircut, they fed the ducks, got icecream and before he knew it, it was time to go home.
“Oh shit,” Sousuke cursed as he checked his watch. “Your mom is going to kll me.”
He buckled his son into his back seat and he made his way behind the wheel. He turned to his son behind him with a small smile and said, “I actually have to pick up...a friend of mine right now. Is that ok?”

Matsuoka Rin — Priorities
PAIRING(S): Matsuoka Rin/Reader WORD COUNT: 4.7k TYPE: Light Angst, Making Up, Childhood friends WARNING(S): None I think? But lmk
“C’mon,” you whined, and the sound grated on Rin’s nerves. He’d spaced out and kind of missed out on what you were upset about now, but he’d known you for long enough to find your responses somewhat predictable. It was probably another race you wanted to have, or an arm wrestle, or something along those lines. You even swam with him sometimes, and to his chagrin you were decent at it.
There was a tug on his sleeve. Rin furrowed his eyebrows and frowned when he turned to look at you, only to see an irked expression on your face. “What?”
At his question, you backed away and crossed your arms, smirking before you pointed at a tree far away in the distance. “I said we should race there. You weren’t listening.”
“But we just walked all the way here from there,” he said, annoyed by your illogical whims.
“Oh, are you scared of losing? Are you a lil’ chicken?”
“I’m NOT a chicken!”
“Ok, ok, you don’t need to take it so seriously,” you said, amusement adding a sharp edge to your smile. Then you fidgeted with your pockets and tip-toed around him. “Besides, it could be our last race.”
“Why’s that?”
“I heard what you told those guys from the swim club earlier. That you’re going away to Australia…”
Rin, again, tried to gauge your reaction. Though he’d unfortunately known you since the dawn of time — being neighbors, his mom and your guardians often made it a habit to force you to hang out with him and Gou — and though he had a sixth sense for the words you said, he didn’t know how you felt most of the time. In that moment, you seemed unbothered, like his departure didn’t faze you at all.
“You weren’t going to tell me, right?”
“I so was!”
“Uh-huh.” Clearly, you didn’t believe him. “‘Cause telling people things is totally your style.”
“I’m not that bad,” he insisted with a huff, but before you could rebut his response, Rin turned heel and began sprinting towards the tree. Over his shoulder, he called out, “The loser’s gonna be a lil’ chicken!”
“Hey! CHEATER!”
You bolted after him, but with your late start, you lost. Still, you held your palm against the trunk of the tree and glared at Rin, who was leaning against it with a smug aura surrounding him. He got all up in your face and grinned. “Who’s a lil’ chicken now?!”
“You only won ‘cause you cheated. I demand a recount.”
“I don’t think that word means whatever you think it means.”
“RECOUNT!”
“No! You’re a chicken. Just accept it.”
“… Recount?”
“There’s nothing to count,” he said before he pulled down his eyelid and blew a raspberry at you. Your glare grew more evil.
On your way back, you spent most of your time pushing at each other and continuing your gratuitous argument, and your yelling had startled many bypassers on the street.
You kept track of your competitions, of course, and you were at a draw. That could’ve been enough to salvage your ego in different circumstances, but you thought Rin was the only one who ever won things of consequence between the two of you.

DUDE ANSWER
___
Deep down, you’d been excited when Rin’s mom called you over since he was visiting for the holidays. Texts between you were sparse and by god he was terrible at replying, though you often returned the favor out of pettiness.
You didn’t have anything in mind for this afternoon and greeted Gou by ruffling her hair as usual, but Rin seemed cross and distant when you first caught a glimpse of him. Apparently your reunion didn’t move him too much.
You trailed behind him to his room where no one else could hear your conversation. “You ok?”
He shrugged and sat down on his old bed. His room was like a relic and as you scanned it, you found that everything was where he left it, or at least the things he didn’t take to Australia. There were some framed photos of you and him strewn about, but the one from the relay seemed to be missing. Something suspiciously bitter settled in your stomach, but you ignored it.
“Did something happen?”
“It’s just… I dunno, do you think swimming’s worth it?”
“Huh? Why not?” you asked, wondering what kind of stupid question that was. “Don’t you literally go to a swimming school now, abroad?”
“This is stupid,” Rin warned, since he knew you’d probably scold him for being a stupid pansy when you heard the rest of his statement. There was a distant sadness you recognized in his expression and that only confused you further while you waited for his explanation. “I keep losing. I don’t have a natural calling for it.”
“You’re comparing yourself to that guy,” you said, narrowing your eyes at him.
Rin blinked. “What guy?” he asked, even though it was obvious you were talking about Haru.
“Uh, what’s his name? Nanase?”
“You don’t understand! It’s not just him.”
“Whatever,” you said with a shake of your head. “Forget I said anything.”
It was unlike you to back down from a disagreement like this, but Rin was glad to leave it. Both of you were too young to understand. Maybe your hesitance to push came because this was much more serious than either of you realized.

Rin scrolled through your messages for the nth time. He probably spent more time doing this — lamenting — than he did responding. When he thought of you, remembered the details of your face, he saw someone fundamentally different from himself. Someone who was self-sufficient.
If you were in his predicament, you wouldn’t sweat it. Loneliness didn’t bother you, and though he never asked, he knew you were doing just fine without him. It was how you were. You brushed off everything with ease, and he recalled the indifference he sensed from you when you first found out he was going away with great distaste.
Stupid you, he thought as he scrunched his nose like the abstract idea of you was now appalling. He swiped back up to the beginning of some dry, mundane conversation he had with you and reread it again.
___
The last few years, for you, had passed by in a blur. Nothing of note ever happened.
As you were a second year, there was nothing special about the first day of school. Actually, you never found the beginning of the school year remarkable, but it seemed even less interesting now that you’d gone through the first rodeo of high school. It signified that your stale vacation days would transition into a different type of monotony and nothing more.
When Gou weaseled her way inside your classroom during recess, you didn’t think much of it. She liked catching up with you from time to time, so her seeking out your presence wasn’t that unusual. You weren’t prepared for her to rub her neck and sheepishly ask, “Sorry to bother you… Has my brother talked to you recently?”
“I think we texted a few weeks back,” you said. “Why are you asking? Something going on?”
She blinked in realization since you seemed none the wiser to his return. “Um, no, I mean… I mean, yeah, he isn’t responding. And I’m a little worried about it. But have you seen him?”
“Uh, last time we saw him was this New Year’s,” you reminded, giving her a weird look. For a second you entertained the idea she was going crazy, but then she graced you with an off-put expression, too.
“Seriously? He didn’t tell you he came back either?” Her tone sounded incredulous when she realized that must be the case, but worry settled in her stomach. Why was her brother acting so strange? He hadn’t informed anyone, even you.
“What? He came back? Like, here in Japan?”
“Yeah! I was worried because I haven’t seen him since he’s going to Samezuka, and he’s not responding to my messages either… So I thought maybe you’d know if he’s doing alright.” There was an exasperated throw of her hands. Following her explanation, Gou frowned. “I guess not.”
Your lips pressed into a straight line while this information registered in your head, eyes absent when you looked away. “Yeah, I guess not.”
___
Rin was different.
You were the same.
That was what he thought when he saw you standing in front of his dorm room with your arms crossed and a smug smile on your face — that even if you looked older, even if your features were sharper and more grown-up, you were the same. Your bravado reminded him of when you’d challenge him to arbitrary contests and how you kept a tally of your wins and losses. He assumed you still did so when you sent him invites to compete in stupid mobile games, too.
“What’re you doing here?” he asked, voice even. Maybe you had come to ask him to race against you again, and to rub it in his face if you won. You won a lot. Too much for someone who didn’t do proper competitive sports.
You kicked yourself off the wall and grinned. “Greetings, asshole.”
“Seriously? No welcome back hug? No ‘I missed you so much’? Just going straight to the name-calling?” Rin asked. He tried to sound humorous when he said it, but it still came out flat, like he wasn’t into it.
“Jerks who ignore their sisters don’t get hugs, no.”
He rolled his eyes. “Oh, does Gou tattle her troubles to you now? Have I been replaced?”
“You called her a crybaby the last time she whined to you.”
“I didn’t mean it.”
You stared at each other blankly.
“None of this explains why you’re creepily standing in front of my room, waiting to ambush me, though,” he said, after a while of uncomfortable silence.
“Breaking inside indoor pools isn’t really my style,” you said, waving your hands. As much as you tended not to pay attention to anything around you, word had traveled around after Haru, Makoto and Nagisa got scolded for visiting Samezuka late at night. All things considered, what you were doing was not that concerning. Campus security let you in and everything. “Like, I’m not that desperate, you know?”
His expression dimmed at your mention of last night’s incident when he both won and lost against Haru — not that you knew. You pursed your lips when you noticed his shift in demeanor before you continued,
“Besides, is it so wrong to wanna see my good ol’ buddy? Maybe it is, considering you didn’t tell me you were here and all.”
Rin at least had the decency to seem embarrassed, even if he didn’t rush to fall to his knees and grovel for your forgiveness.
“I… was meaning to tell you,” he settled on.
You leaned against the wall again like his answer exhausted you, hands sneaking back inside your pockets. It made him nostalgic to see you do your usual mannerisms, but just about anything made him long for the past those days. Even stupid things like this — like the way you fussed with your clothing.
“You didn’t,” you said.
“I didn’t, but you’re still here.”
There was a hint of displeasure in what he said. Maybe he didn’t like surprises, maybe he just didn’t want to see you. Your lips twitched as if you were about to frown, but the motion was short-lived. You stayed there with your usual stony expression, not amused, but certainly not angry or hurt.
You asked, “Why didn’t you?”
There were many ways to approach this question, so Rin didn’t.
“I don’t know,” he said with a shrug. “Just didn’t get around to it.”
“You wanna go somewhere? Or do you have club activities or something?”
Rin wasn’t surprised to figure out you weren’t in a club. He’d asked a few times over text to distract you from your questions about swimming, but the answer was always no. Not your kind of thing, you’d say. That you weren’t a team player, you’d continue. You didn’t take the areas you were gifted in seriously.
“I’m not in a club either,” he said. “I was just about to sign up, actually.”
“You’re not already in the swimming club? Weird.”
“I wasn’t going to, but, well. Things happen.”
This seemed to confuse you even further, but some sort of recognition flashed across your face. Rin wondered what it was that you realized, but you didn’t comment on it. All you said was, “You better get to it now then, right?”
You raised your hands again in mock surrender and took a step forward like you were about to go. Rin almost gave into the urge to stop you from leaving because he could hang out with you and- and it’d be a good time, probably. Like when you’d come over near New Year’s when he was visiting and play board games with him, or when you were the only one to entertain him in stupid conversations over the phone for around four years. The usual.
He could easily sign up for the swim club tomorrow, but he let his arm flap back to his side. He didn’t want you to think he was pathetic and needy or whatever. And Rin wanted Haru to know he could beat him any day. You’d respect him more if he accomplished that, right? If he showed you he was alright on his own, all this time, then…
His gaze lingered on your retreating figure until you disappeared from sight.

___
Your classmates were distracting. You stood upright on the other side of the stadium or… whatever it was, shifting around, adjusting your weight from your left hip to your right and then back to your left. Whispers and chatter got inside one ear and out the other, but you could still hear them, screaming something like ‘Go, Haru!’ or whatever.
However, you were here to watch Rin, not to cheer on your school. Your elbows dug into the railing, your palm imprinted on your cheek as you boredly assessed the scene in front of you. Rin didn’t see you in the crowd, or at least you assumed he didn’t. Couldn’t have — he was focused on Haru, who was next to him.
You wondered if he’d finally be satisfied after this. Probably not.
And Rin was good at swimming. You knew he had his gripes with it even though he never really told you anything of substance about whatever he was going through, but you watched him now, and he had the lead. He was even better than you’d expected. Sometimes he was flimsy when you two were younger, but you could tell that wasn’t the case anymore.
The race didn’t last long at all. It went by so fast, you had to wonder if anyone would ever come watch these for fun.
You saw him mouth something to Haru, then he walked off while the other boy was dazed by his loss. Again, you were confused since you knew Nanase-san didn’t really care about winning, but this was always more than that, wasn’t it?
You closed your eyes and contemplated the matter, then nodded sagely to yourself. Yes, of course, things were never that simple when corny freaks were involved.
Since you didn’t care about any of the Rin-less events, you took your leave and headed for the exit. There was a load of nothing you needed to do until the end of the day, after all.

___
As promised, you occupied the same spot you did the day before, watching. Waiting. Even before the whistle blew to announce the start of the race, you could tell Rin was in a bad mood. What was his deal again? The sigh you let out was almost involuntary.
Though you knew him to be moody, you didn’t think it’d impact his performance. He was dead last and he wasn’t moving in the water like he usually would. A frown pulled at your face, weighing your skin down. It was clear he wouldn’t place in number one, but at least there was still the other thing he told you he’d compete in.
He’d better not have invited you just to embarrass himself. You strolled toward the building where the swimmers headed. Maybe you’d try to talk it out with him? Not that your attempts at conversation ever amounted to much, especially when you tried to be serious.
You snuck your way in and bristled when Rin rammed into you, seemingly in a hurry. You blinked. “Where the hell are you going?”
“None of your business,” he said. Maybe out of habit.
“Huh? You invited me here.”
Rin shook his head, but halted, anyway.
“You’ve gotta do the relay,” you added. “Seriously, where are you going?”
His eyes went watery at your remark and you looked at him like he grew a second head. He was acting way more emotional than usual, and you didn’t get it at all.
You spoke again. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Nothing’s wrong.”
“You won against Nanase-san yesterday,” you said.
He crossed his arms, but you could tell he was growing irritated with you. Or maybe it’d been stirring for a while, and now it boiled over. “Why does everything have to be about him?”
You glared at him. Okay, perhaps you were a little pissed at him, too. “I don’t know, you tell me. You’re-”
“I’m not his friend,” he insisted, knowing what you were about to say. “That was in the past.”
“Literally why are you doing this?”
“I don’t need anyone. I don’t need you. Just leave!”
“You asked me to stay yesterday! Hypocritical idiot.”
To prove your point, you pulled your phone out of your pocket to show him exactly what he had said, but Rin only groaned and gestured at you to stop, that there was no need to, his hands around yours. There was that aloof sadness in his expression again, but he quickly masked it with anger. “You don’t even like me. Why are you even here? Why do we still talk to each other?”
You pulled away from him, staring incredulously after the nonsense he’d just said. “What?”
“You don’t like anyone,” Rin said, pointing an accusatory finger in your face. He was scowling. You hadn’t really seen him act like this before Australia. Had he snapped at anyone else ever since he came back? “You don’t- need anyone. And I don’t…”
“Oh, shut up,” you said, raising your tone to match this. “Just shut up! You have so many friends who still care about you even though you’ve been acting like a tool lately.”
“Do you care?” Rin snapped.
It was like you were seeing him for the first time. Like the answer to that question was pertinent, some conviction lied underneath his aggression, but you didn’t question why that might be. Instead, you were offended.
You laughed. “Do I care? Do I care? I’m not always watching you chase after anyone else who isn’t me for you to ask me that.”
“I don’t chase-”
“Yeah, you don’t chase people, blah blah.”
“Be careful wording things like that,” he said, and out of nowhere, he tried to be playful. Rin was backtracking — you seemed angry with him now, which he hadn’t considered you might be when he first took to yelling at you. It was stupid, but he’d never managed to get under your skin before. Still, it wasn’t like you’d ever had such a huge fight before, either. “I might think you’re jealous.”
Your face went slack the way it tended to do. “You know what? Maybe I’m jealous.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“‘Cause you have all these friends, and all you care about is… insisting they’re not your friends? Or something? What’s your damage, man? I don’t have any other friends, just you. I admit it, I’m a loser. Ok? Yeah, I’m jealous of you. And I’m jealous Nanase-san’s always on your mind instead of me.”
You pushed him away with as much strength as you could muster. Rin’s mouth opened and you wondered if he was about to argue with you further or what. What more he had to say, you weren’t sure, but you didn’t stay around to hear it — just ran off, back to the stands.
The relay was last. You’d wasted a lot of time bad mouthing each other in the corridors, and you couldn’t believe you admitted to all that, but anyhow it wasn’t a while of waiting for it to come.
Deep down, you were a corny freak all along. The realization embarrassed you. You thought about leaving, about not watching, but didn’t have it in you. Truly, you were turning into somebody you didn’t recognize.
Rin was easy to pick out in a crowd. For you, anyway. So you had no idea what the hell he was doing in the same row as your classmates instead of the guys from his school. It seemed he was swimming in place of the nerdy one, and for a moment, he scanned the crowd until he saw you.
Were you the problem? His problem? He was smiling and laughing with Nanase-san and the others, but the moment your eyes met each other, he turned crestfallen again.
Your shoulders slumped.
And he was happy to swim with them again, as you thought he’d be. Seeing him like this reminded you of how he used to act before Australia.
And you’d never had that effect on him.
You didn’t care if they’d finish first or last or in the mediocre middle, you decided, as you left after all.
___
Sprawled over your couch, you fed yourself grapes and imagined yourself as some kind of ancient royalty, beloved by many subjects.
Were you in a crisis? You’d heard people did strange things when they were going through a midlife crisis, but you preferred to believe you weren’t middle-aged yet.
There was a knock on the door. You rose from your seat and slouched forward to look through the peephole in case it was a kidnapper, or worse, a salesperson, only to see Rin in front of you. With a practiced neutrality — what were the chances he’d forgotten those humiliating things you spewed at him? — you opened and leaned against the doorframe like a greaser from a shitty movie.
“‘Sup?”
“I’m such an asshole,” he blurted out.
You weren’t expecting that. “Oh.”
“I’m sorry, I just- This is so stupid. You’re always so… naturally tough, I guess, and sometimes I wanted to carry myself more like you. Especially since I was so lonely in Australia, and I thought you’d never let that get to you, and- I never even thought I could hurt your feelings and- I don’t know- I’m sorry. Maybe I was jealous of you, too.”
“Of course I’m not above getting in my feelings,” you said. “I’m not a robot.”
“I know. I’m sorry,” he told you for the third time.
You looked to the side. “I didn’t mean to make it look like I don’t care about you, either.”
Should you let him inside? Did he even want to hang out with you now that you’ve both said your apologies? Or would that be too awkward? Or was the fact you were leaving him on your doorstep to stand there like a dirty unwanted dog the uncomfortable part?
As you pondered all these pressing topics, Rin reached out for you, reluctant. You wondered what he was doing until he wrapped his hesitant arms around you in an embrace. Your face twisted in a grimace like hugging was some alien gesture you didn’t understand the meaning of.
When you got used to it, you returned the gesture stiffly and patted him on the back with one of your hands.
It felt kind of nice, actually.

"So uh, are you as embarrassed as me right now?"
"Should I be?"

Rin is back in Sydney to further his dreams of swimming, while also juggling his classes. One such class is Classical Studies, which admittedly he took just so he could have enough credits to pass.
But he finds himself fascinated by the content, and by one classmate in particular: you.
From your wardrobe and your makeup, to the fact that you never take notes or are seen in the library. You're an enigma, and the more Rin tries scratch at your surface, the more he finds his thoughts being invaded by you...

The Shadow- Merman!Ikuya x pirate! fem!Reader
Return to File
Recovery date: April 21st, 2024
Description: Ikuya is used to Y/n recklessness, so when she decides to chase a phantom ship he's right behind her.
Notes: Song referenced is The Shadow by Sail North. I finally watched the last free movies, and now I miss Ikuya.
Word count: 1 488
Back to directory
“None can tame the one the sailors call Shadow!” Y/n cheered as she danced along the rocks lining the tide pool.
A gentle laugh urged her to open her eyes.
“But you’ll still try.”
She pried an eye open and glanced down at the flooded pool. There, leaning on his arms beside her feet, was Ikyua. His shimmering teal tail flicked out of the small pool as the water receded, leaving him temporarily trapped. The fins around his ears twitched as Y/n crouched down in front of him.
“Obviously.”
Y/n booped his nose, making the merman flinch back and crinkle his nose. She sat down and dipped her feet into the pool next to Ikuya so he could lean his head against her legs.
They watched the sun continue to set on the horizon as another ship made its way into the nearby port.
“Sounds like it hasn’t worked out for everyone else who’s gone looking,” Ikuya mumbled as Y/n ran her hand through his hair.
“How long were you listening to me for?”
“Uh, whenever you started talking about setting sail.”
Y/n sighed, “So since the start.”
“I guess,” he shrugged.
---
Maybe she should have listened to Ikyua more. Maybe then she wouldn’t have been knocked from her ship as the Shadow’s cannons wrecked it. Her back slammed into the water, knocking the air from her lungs and forcing her to intake water as she sank down, pinned under a wooden beam. She tried to swim out from under it, only to knock her head against some more debris and intake more water in a shocked gasp.
Panic began to set in as her vision started to blur and she started to drown.
Suddenly she felt her face breach the water, the sharp cool air stinging her face, and she spluttered– spitting and coughing up water as forcing air into her lungs. She gasped, frantically splashing around. Her feet kept kicking something and she grasped at whatever was around her waist, faintly registering the feeling of scales and skin under her hands.
“-ey, Hey! Y/n!” A voice yelled as the thing around her waist tightened.
“I-Ikuya?” Y/n panted out, slowly relaxing in his hold and laying her head back against his shoulder. “What are you?”
“Y/n!”
The pirate captain looked down, squinting through the faint light cast by the burning ship to see Ikuya diving back under water to swim over. Panic re-entered her system and she scrambled against the person behind her again.
Ikuya resurfaced right in front of her and she reached out for him. He grabbed Y/n and pulled her into his chest, letting her bury her face in his shoulder.
“Thanks Rin.”
Y/n looked back to find a merman she didn’t recognize being joined by two others, one of whom she recognized as Hiyori.
“I- thank you,” Y/n breathed out. “Sorry for-”
Rin raised a hand.
“It’s fine, I probably would have panicked too.”
“Is she okay?” The other merman asked, his eyes must have been glowing because even though they were far from the fire she could see them clearly.
Ikuya looked down at her, eyes filled with worry.
“Are you okay?”
“I-” Y/n broke down into another fit of coughs, “I think so.”
The four men shared concerned glances, but the moment was interrupted by a splash as another merman joined them. This one came up right beside Ikuya and immediately addressed Y/n.
“How many people were on the ship?” His voice was stern, causing Y/n to flinch back into Ikuya.
“Ni-chan,” Ikuya hissed.
“Twenty six, not counting myself,” Y/n said, shivering as the wind picked up.
“You came out here with a crew of twenty-six?” Ikuya hissed, his claws cutting through Y/n’s shirt.
The pirate captain hissed as the claws broke skin and the salt water soaked into the open wounds. In turn she dug her nails into his arms.
“I wasn’t going to make anyone join me.”
“Ikuya,” Hiyori urged, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder, “we have to get Y/n out of the water.”
“You’re also hurting me,” Y/n muttered, making Ikuya let her go.
Ikuya’s brother pulled over a wooden plank and the brothers helped her up.
The wind child her to the bone, forcing her into a fit of shivers and concerning her saviors.
“Why-why did you ask about my crew?”
In the faint light cast by the wreckage of her ship, she saw Ikuya’s brother frown.
“I’m sorry.”
---
Y/n wakes up to warmth and softness. She winces at the bright light coming in through the window as she opens her eyes, groaning when she tries to move. There’s a weight against her upper legs and her neck feels stiff, but she finds she can’t speak. Her mouth is dry and swallowing grates like sandpaper, but she can’t reach the glass of water on the nearby table.
She must be moving a bit though, because the weight on her legs shifts and gets completely off her.
“Y/n?” Ikuya’s groggy voice calls.
She carefully turns her head to find him rubbing at his eyes and yawning.
As he blinks the sleep from his eyes, Y/n registers that they’re on land and her eyes widen in surprise.
This time when she tries to speak, Ikuya notices.
“Here.”
He helps her sit up and drink some water, even though swallowing hurts.
“I’m glad you’re awake.” Ikuya stares into her eyes for a moment, unblinking, before clearing his throat and sitting back. “Let me go get Nao.”
“I-” Y/n croaked, but he was gone.
It was only for a moment though, as a man with gray-ish blue hair and glasses entered the room trailed by Ikuya. He sat down in the seat Ikuya had been occupying as Ikuya hovered just behind him.
“Hello,” Nao said softly, “does anything hurt?”
“Is ‘everything’ an answer?”
Ikuya let out a puff of laughter and Nao smiled, reaching out to cup her face. He turned her head towards him carefully, examining her eyes, before turning her straight again and picking up an empty cup.
“Can you open your shirt so I can listen to your breathing?”
Y/n tried to raise her arms.
“No.”
“May I?”
“Okay.”
Nao undid the first two buttons of her shirt before shifting to sit beside her on the bed and placing the cup against her chest. He listened carefully, asking her to take deep breaths before moving back to the stool.
“Ikuya?” Y/n asked, making him perk up.
“Why do you have legs?” Ikuya went to speak but she continued. “Am I… Am I, dead?”
“What? No!”
“I can assure you, you’re perfectly fine,” Nao said, buttoning her shirt back up. “I’ll leave you two alone for a minute.”
He got up and Ikuya quickly dropped back into his seat while Nao left. The bedroom door closed behind him, and a yelp was heard almost immediately as Nao scolded someone.
Ikuya clicked his tongue. “Ni-chan was probably trying to snoop,” he explained. Then he turned back to her. “You probably have a lot of questions.”
“Yes. You have legs.”
“Not curious how you got here or where we are?”
“Yes but… you know what, start wherever and, can I have some more water?”
“Of course.” He helped her drink another half cup of water as he started talking. “You passed out while we were waiting for Nao, this is his house.”
“How did you even find me?”
The merman looked away, twisting the sheets in his hands.
“I was worried about you.”
Y/n started to laugh before quickly being cut off by her weakened lungs. Ikuya placed a hand on her back, rubbing circles to try and ease the cough. Once she caught her breath again, she looked up at him with a smile.
“Thank you, but we really need to work on your… habit. Maybe you can join my crew with these new legs of yours,” she teased.
“You want to go back to being a pirate, after everything that just happened?”
“This isn’t the first ship I’ve lost,” Y/n frowned, “but, I might have issues getting a new crew.”
Y/n fell silent for a moment, and Ikuya watched her eyes glass over with unshed tears.
“They’re temporary, by the way.” Y/n sniffed and looked back up at Ikuya. “The legs. Nao’s a witch, he’s also my brother-in-law. My brother, Natsuya, lives here with him and sometimes I visit.”
“I like your tail better.”
Ikuya laughs softly, reaching out to link his hand with hers. His thumb rubs gentle arcs against the back of her hand.
“You’ll have to stay here awhile,” he said softly. “You know, to make sure you’ve recovered.”
“If it’s okay with Nao.”
“It is.”
“Okay,” Y/n smiled. “Then, you’ll stick around?”
“Of course.”

Hi!
You can call me Nia, I'm in my twenties (God, I feel old), and I'm an ENFP (though I haven't taken the test in ages)
I read a lot here as well as books, and my dreams are quite creative, they're honestly what give me inspiration for what I write here.
I thing the main thing I like to write about is Fluff, but I've also like Angst/Comfort. I would like to write Smut but I don't think I would be good at it *chuckles*. Something I don't feel comfortable writing about is Idol!au because I feel like I would be getting to close to their personalities and that's a no for me.
With that set you can leave asks if you want to *smiles*.
Remember to leave likes, reblogs, comments to let me know if you truly like it or if there is something I can improve on.
Happy reading!
