I never knew I’d come to like high school romances and the fact it’s the most cliche one: popular boy x quiet girl? Bro i was playing this one cai bot (cause i’m delusional) and there was this popular boy bot. I was like??? Ajdbxjehnen. You know, I’m almost graduating already and in the animes, they’re just starting their first year of high school meanwhile I’m already there at the end of everything. So here, I’m gonna share a prompt with you guys and uh this is mostly what i do at highschool back then:

Imagine you’re an average student. Sure, you did have friends, you did your work splendidly, and although you’re not an academically smart or active student, the teachers still remembered you pretty much. You never played in the popular kids’ circles since most of the time, those students would outcast others who tried to be part of the circle when they had nothing to offer. It’s like a sore thumb sticking out and you’re just there, supposedly ruining their aesthetics with your ‘weird’ and ‘boring’ personality.

But you’re not bullied as well! You’re just very much a wallflower that if you were to blend in with the geek kids, you’ll stand out too much. Yet if you blend with the cool kids, you’re too bland.

That was until he came.

At first, he found you to be a rather boring person since you didn’t talk much yet when you did, you had the whole audience staring at you. By that I mean, when you came forth to perform a speech or any speaking assignment in front of the class, you knew what to do to make attention land on you. Even when you stepped down from the stage, that charm immediately vanished and you returned to nobody.

You would still be able to make lots of acquaintances with lots of people although they’re necessarily not your friends. When he asked others if they knew you by one coincidental day in which he didn’t even realize your image was playing in his head, and he’d unconsciously asked about you, others would tell him, ‘Yeah, I know her.’

And despite always downplaying things, he would sometimes scroll through your social media account by accident. He claimed that he did it because your recent post of you hanging out at your friend’s birthday party showed up on his feed (none of you followed each other since he was too conscious to even follow you), he saw that you posted mostly of yourself and of your friends. Well, perhaps there weren’t that many posts on your account since you didn’t exactly use it that much, but when you did post something, he would check on your profile to see if he missed out on your other previous posts. Sometimes, he would accidentally even click on your story, leaving a trail of his user visible on your history. Before he knew it, he already cursed himself for accidentally clicking on your story, but damn did the view you posted on the story seemed awesome.

Eventually, as time passed by, he grew to be more and more curious of you. There were instances where he would offer to be the leader of an assignment group just to take you as his member (he promised it was because he wanted your usefulness and all the skills you could offer that could help boost this assignment’s grade, even if his other friends disagreed).

And during sport’s day, where everyone was basically bathed in their murky and awful sweats, he would find you around the canteen area, attempting to buy drinks without getting busted by the teachers since it wasn’t recess yet. He would use this as a chance and made his way around to the canteen, showing up beside you and bought two drinks. One for him and one for you. He left the drink on the counter, in which you grabbed it and called out to him, and he turned around and spoke, “Oh, that’s for you.” With that, he ran away (thinking he was so smooth, huh?)

Sometimes, he would find you standing in the hallway after school, staring down at the courtyard on your way home. You would often take another route and it would change most of the times just to stall your time, not to go home too soon and enjoy the quietness of the school’s ground when there’s no disturbances. He got intrigued as he noticed your constantly changing route and would follow you from behind, a few feet away of course and acted like he was going home through that route too. Although, in fact he was just curious and wanted to know what you’d be doing after school if you’re not active or part of any activity group.

He would snicker when he watched you wait for someone to come and pick you up from school and you were sitting down on the floor. There was a huge black fat cat that came crawling towards you and sat on your thighs without your prior notice, making a claim on your lap as though it’s the cat’s decision whether or not it could sleep there. You’d panic yet you couldn’t push him off and looked around for help since your pick up had already arrived and you needed to get home soon. He showed up from the corner and helped you take the cat away from your lap. You’d thank him and left already, hurrying to your pick-up driver. He smiled friendly, although the cat glared at him.

And finally, he began to talk to you. Little by little, one by one, conversations between you two were exchanged. He didn’t think you’d actually have some complexity in your character despite always displaying yourself to be a quiet and boring person. You can be loud at times, weird, witty, and sometimes awkward and just embarrassing.

Slowly, the two of you became friends. And he didn’t acknowledge the fact that his heart was already advancing beyond the word ‘friendship’, it’d grown far too unsalvageable. But whenever he saw your oblivious smile to his feelings, he wanted to squish your cheek and pull you to a kiss to actually get the fact drilled in your head that he liked you a lot. But he didn’t and simply laughed at you whenever you’re oblivious to his advances, ruffling your hair to a mess. He would do anything to tease you and annoy you but never to actually lay a hand on you and hurt you like that.

He would just have to wait for the right time to say that he liked you.

Thus, he waited, and waited, and waited…

And now you’re here, celebrating that you’re finally graduating. And he would finally come to you, yet immediately turned cowardly to actually say something to you since you were smiling that day, taking pictures with almost everyone—even the ones you didn’t like because you didn’t want to leave regrets behind. He didn’t want to ruin anything for you, thus he simply remained silent and threw a fist of flour and poured it over to you out of playfulness in which he’d kept that grip of flour behind his back already this whole time.

eichi found your energetic demeanor kinda weird at first. not exactly weird,, he was just slightly surprised at how joyful you are but this didn't take long. he actually liked it. he enjoyed your presence and you made him genuinely happy with your lively and social personality.

there were things he didn't expect though... eichi felt truly nervous when you first got quiet all of a sudden. he asked "what happened, dear?" , "is everything okay?" and all kinds of questions though the only response he got was the strange look on your face-

Note: I am shitting tears writing this. I need my angst demons so bad for this. After hearing Eguchi's cover, this made me think of him singing this song and looked for the lyrics. Should I make a WataEi version of this? Hm... It's an absolute mess but EichiP's and fineP's, please prepare tissues for early preparations.

A script written by Wataru Hibiki, as what the author's name was written on the cover. He opened it and flipped the pages of the script he had on his hand. He cleared his throat and read a few lines.

"It's that time of the season again..." Eichi muttered as he gazed at the window from the music room of Ensemble Square. He could only reminisce the memory of the war, where he is the only witness of everything you were involved in.

"Summer finally arrived. The emperor sat on his new throne at his new kingdom."

"Summer finally arrived. He remembered that it was nearly summer when finally fell down from his own tyranny in the past year."

"Summer finally arrived..." He paused, and continued.

"And his memories haunted him— his memories of his past." From two years ago. He continued in his mind.

"Thus, a tale of the emperor and the lost has been uncovered and told! Let the curtains arise to reveal the truth!" He ended it quietly and read it silently as he let out a small chuckle. "Classic Wataru..."

What he didn't know that it was meant to be written for him, for the one who reigned till this day.

And the main reason you disappeared.

The memories of the war remained fresh and it made him unable to sleep on those nights. Even in the hospital, he became restless even if his body screamed and begged for him to sleep.

He remembered the time when the war is still there. He knew how broken you were when he knew you're attempting to meet your end.

He remembered that you're always alone.

"—But with things like this, we’re able to love each other." He thought of the words you once told him. Was it really love when he never felt such thing? Was your love between him one sided? Was this love fake? Yes.

Eichi remembered what he exactly had told Wataru about what happened to you back then when he is in the infirmary.

It repeats again;

A flashback, which Eichi clearly remembered. "The buzzing cicadas… And you, who will never come back." Eichi muttered.

He clenched his hand and held it closer to his chest, where his heart is. "Our matching keychains are being torn apart for all eternity." And he opened his hand, where it revealed two keychains, matched and meant to be paired for you and him.

He remembered the day when he saw your bag near the railway crossing. The keychain hanging on the sling of your bag and the colors faded. The cardigan and your uniform blazer placed on your bag, telling that you left it there on purpose.

"The girl with her pale white skin that the summer got rid of..." He broke down and shed tears. "I find myself wanting to be possessed by her so much it brings me to tears..."

My true nature starts to break loose at the start of September, marked by the ringing of chimes.

Eichi confessed everything what had happened. "A flower vase placed on the next target, and the one who started it..." He tried not to say it and failed to do so. "...was me"

"I never wanted to do it but instead, I still did. I know they hated me and will always hate me."

"It’s true, you’re to blame—" Wataru said and was followed by mere silence.

Eichi repeated his words whenever you looked down in the past. "Just look at me and me only."

"It’s true, you want someone to help you, don't you?" Is what he had told you back then. He indeed helped you to recover and became a student of Yumenosaki. He is the reason why you're alive.

But in the end, you're gone.

He remembered the day when you told him that you'll take him to see the ocean on the other side of the railway crossing. A change of scenery won't hurt, you say.

But you left before him.

He was too late to reach you. He ran towards the other side of the railway crossing and never cared if his illness attacks him like a predator. As he reached the shore, he saw your shoes close to the drifting waters of the sea. The footprints that was washed away by the waters were evident that you were gone for long.

"Going to the sea makes you feel alive. How about going there together. You'll love the water."

The sea took your life and you are gone forever.

I gently place a kiss on your drowning hands

He remembered how cold your hands are. And it was even colder after he found your cold body they fished out of the sea. He touched it carefully and held it gently.

He remembered how loud the alarm of the railway crossing is when it's faint to hear from the seashore, the constant buzzing of the cicadas, and the calm waves of the sea. He never cared about anything around him since all he could think is just you gone on that day.

Those faintly smiling beasts dig their nails into (you) until their hearts are refreshed, and now your skirt is uneven.

When he first saw you in a complete mess, you cowered yourself at the corner, like a cornered mouse. He knows that you were ruined by them, completely ruined by the system in life.

A scream that seemed as though it cut off the silence of summer echoes through the classroom, in the window was the first time he once heard from you before all of those traumatic incidents that made his heart beated rapidly that caused him to faint. And the last thing he saw before he fainted is the blue sky that you once loathed in the past.

"You're my friend..." Is the last words he had heard from you before you disappeared.

Your words that he vividly remembered, will always haunt him in his nightmares.

The ghost of his past showed up in his dreams and his reality. Whenever he walked at the halls of Yumenosaki, all he could see is you anywhere, haunting him. He felt safe in Ensemble Square but not for long. He will always be haunted at the sight of your gone like the wind.

That ghost, is you.

"Of course, you're my friend, so take my hand..." He remembered what he had told you and continued, "Of course, you’re gone, and I’ve got nowhere to go..."

You crossed the border between life and death— the world you called transparent over and over.

"If we were able to love each other in that transparent world—" Your voice remained in his memories. He, who know nothing about love always remembered these lingering lines of yours in his deepest memories.

Eichi knows the narrative lines will come to an end. And yet, he still read it.

He let out his hand and continued, "The words of the emperor repeated that the jester will remember for eternity; It repeats again;"

A flashback, which it deeply frightens him to the core.

The buzzing cicadas… And you, who will never come back

"The day the lost bade them their last untold farewell to the emperor was forgotten by all but remembered by him and him alone. The cicadas who deafened their farewell signed that they'll never return."

Our matching keychains are being torn apart for all eternity

"A piece remained in their own history remained intact yet broken. To which the emperor kept it safely in his hands."

"He lamented, "The girl with that pale white skin that the summer got rid of... I find myself wanting to be possessed by her so much it makes me sad..." and was never written in history for it was burned and left forgotten."

He was usually one step ahead, but whenever you took the lead you could clearly see an irritated look on his face, and you truly enjoyed that. Despite the fierce competition, there were unexpected moments when you caught a glimpse of something else in Ibara's eyes. Something softer, almost admiring... Whenever these thoughts popped into your head, you quickly tried to get rid of them. "There is nothing to admire about him." you were thinking to yourself, but you still couldn't get away from him. He couldn't either. You two were becoming overly competitive on purpose, acting like one of you was gonna become the winner. But there was nothing to win- except for the attention you can get, the pleasure you feel whenever you sense each other's touch... and maybe there was more than all of that.

What even is there to say about Rinne Amagi? The guy who absolutely ruined your stage performances with his stupid plans and tricks. No wonder why he had a bad reputation. And there you were, standing perfectly still in front of him, as one of the most loved idols ever. You hated his way of doing things, and his idiotic smirk whenever he won something. Yet, despite your frustration, there was a quite little spark in his eyes that made your heart race. Every argument, every battle you two had only seemed to make the strange bond between you even stronger. And sometimes, just sometimes you wondered what could be behind that mischievous grin. Rinne indeed had a soft side, and you were just too perfect for him to handle. His feelings were confusing- the way he was trying to destroy you was a sign of hate but he never could've brought himself to genuinely hurt you. Maybe, both of you were too arrogant to admit there was a tiny bit of love growing itself through the bond you have.

Slowly, you began to realize your heart would ache with jealousy whenever he charmed the audience or had a laugh with someone else- which he had with nearly everyone. The idea of having feelings for him hit you like a brick- and fear held you back. Just like he said, he belonged to everyone, not you. But still, you tried every way possible to find out if he also had feelings for you. Wataru was a man who was a tough one to figure out- even if he behaved like his real self near you, it was hard to read his emotions. Yet, he was incredible at reading others' feelings. Nothing escaped his notice. He saw the way your eyes sparkled whenever you looked at him, noticed your efforts to hide the excitement on your face whenever you and he practiced together... One day, when your show ended and the curtains fell, you and Wataru were standing still on the stage. He was looking at you differently this time. You knew you couldn't hide your feelings anymore. But you realized, neither he could. His sweet, genuine smile and the words about to fall from his mouth melted all your fears away for a moment. Leo Tsukinaga, the genius composer who had been one of your closest friends since high school, was a constant source of fun and chaos in your life. Gazing at the shining stage in front of you, it was the first time you ever saw him: Rei Sakuma, one of the most known, charismatic idols ever. He was standing out among the others with his dangerous, yet so elegant look. His jet-black hair, as dark as the midnight sky, was waving as he moved back and forth on the stage. He held his microphone tightly and as he sang, his mellow, almost a bit seductive voice was capturing the audience with each note. Although it's easy to say you got captured the most, the vampire on the stage also got his interest in you. Rei's eyes, a striking shade of crimson, glowed as he met yours. You've never seen anyone before, glazing at you like he did. It was nearly like you also captured him. After the performance ended, you both were looking for ways to see each other. You went to the backstage just to try to meet him. You were nervous, as you didn't know what kind of person he was but also, it felt like you guys knew each other since forever. It seemed like the world was going to collapse when you sensed Rei's touch on your shoulder. You turned to look at him. His presence felt ethereal. He was looking at you the same way, probably thinking the same thing. At that moment, you both knew your lives were about to change forever.

he’s a busy man, but he makes sure to make time for you. you’re incredibly important to him… even if you’re not aware of just how much.  

at first he thinks he’s doing something wrong – much of his knowledge on courting and romance comes from movies and books, so he’s unsure as to whether such things are okay in real life.

he invites you to tea… or to a fancy dinner… he buys you whatever you even glance at… and all he’s met with is a sweet smile and a bright “thank you, nii-chan!”

he’s not very creative in this department, so i’d expect him to start consuming more romance media to gain inspiration… he's hitting the books yall look at him go!!

due to this, a lot of his courting methods are traditional and cliche, but it’s incredibly endearing that he tries so hard! or it would be, if you were aware that he was courting you in the first place…

i’d think eichi is quite the clingy person – he hasn’t had many friends or acquaintances, so to find someone he likes so much? someone who (probably. arguably. possibly.) likes him back just as much? he’s going to be so protective of you. 

it’s very obvious how much he favours you! at least to everyone else -.- he’d have a special seat in his office just for you… your favourite tea blends (or other drinks, if you don’t like tea!) just within reach… 

it’s visible in the way his voice softens almost imperceptibly when he’s speaking to you, or the way a smile slips onto his face when your name pops up in conversation.

though he thinks your oblivion is amusing – aren’t you just the cutest, most innocent thing? – he’s well aware of his clock ticking down. he won’t admit it, but he’s quite afraid that he won’t be able to spend as much time with you as he wants to. he’ll have to speed things up… maybe he’d just have to ask you directly? you’re sure to say yes, right?

he dotes on you a ton, and checks up on you the same way he does his unitmates! he just wants you all to do your best, and he's unconditionally proud of you regardless of the outcome. he makes sure you know it too.

sure, he likes being called nii-chan by his juniors, but theres a certain pang in his chest when it's coming from you, especially when you sound so sincere about it.
