I got the chance to work with Choopo on his Wizard101 Lore series and I'm extremely appreciative that I got the chance to help him on his quest.

It was a lot and I'm not done documenting yet, there's plenty of Arc 5 speculation going on and I'm interested to see where this EarthBorn plot point from the end of Selenopolis will take the Wizard next.

I'm also working on an overall for Mage The Ascension (from the line of World Of Darkness TTRPGs) that will allow you to play as a wizard from any angle or side of the Spiral, I'll make sure to post updates here.

(This currently infant pet-project will absolutely/most-definitely be free because I have no idea what kind of legalization surrounds both KingsIsle and WOD these days but it would still be fun to get the chance to play as a Wizard of the Spiral and even more so to shape a system to allow you to do exactly that)

your lover sharing their childhood games with you is an unfathomable experience. He started with Wizard101. He’s played since before fishing, I played intermittently and only on the free version, until we met 4 years ago and he taught me how to play properly. He shows me the house he decorated when he was 15, he’s 24 now. He shows me the house he’d host parties at, he showed me the house he bought because all the cool kids had this house. In every placed polygon, I wonder his life. Did he hurry to finish his homework, to get to play his game? What was he growing through when he made this ice-themed living room? The traces of innocence in the stuffed animals in his first house, the parallel to his personality in his current barn, no decoration with nothing but gardening to up his stats. He shows me his first wizard, he tells me about how much he’s done with it. And slowly, I find traces of us as we go. Our friendship marker from 2020. The housing items i got him, the mounts he got me. Today, we hatched a pet together, and he had forgotten I only had that pet because he got it for me before we where even together. His pet has a name I gave it when I was drunk and 19. His life, seen in parallel to this game, and I see traces of myself woven in.

Then he showed me his first ever video game, i couldn’t tell you the name. He plays it for weeks on end, light and joy in his eyes at every new transformation he discovers, every combo he remembers, new features and old features he didn’t yet learn. I see how he spent his time even younger, I see the seeds that bloomed into the person he is now.

Sometimes he games too much, and it worries me. But sometimes, in the blessed moonlight, I get to see pieces of his soul in binary code and polygons.

Something I will never forgive Wizard101 for is changing Penny Dreadful’s quest

I never got a free mystical pet! I had to fight the undead in the haunted cave! I had to take Penny’s pet cyclops because her absentminded parents forgot she’s allergic! I mean yeah still a free pet but a common one, not a mystical one

Smh the youngins get all the cool stuff these days

Also they changed Penny’s voice actor like 3 times. To this day I miss hearing her say “I’m allERGic to cyCLOPSes”

Important question!

If I made a specifically Wizard101 picrew, what items (such as clothing, accessories, wands, pets, etc) would you want to see included?

I decided to combine two of my interests and brainstorm which schools of magic the Death Note characters would main if they had played Wizard101 growing up. My thoughts are beneath the cut!

Light would be a Fire wizard, because I associate that school with obnoxious men who often compete rather than cooperate with other players because they want to be the main hitter. He prioritizes high offense over high defense and can get around shields with DoT spells.  (Also, Immolate is a pretty good metaphor for what Light does to himself during the Yotsuba Arc!) 

L would be an Ice wizard, to contrast with Light (and so they can be super-effective against each other). In my experience, male Ice wizards often got flack for choosing "a feminine school," so this can reflect L's queer energy. I also think that the taunting component of certain Ice spells fits L nicely, and spells such as Ice Armor would explain why Light finds L so hard to kill. 

If Light chooses an elaborate, three-part name such as Adam Nighthunter, then it would be funny if L went with a short one such as "Elie." Bonus points if he wears some of the less-gendered gear and has to endure other male wizards asking, "Are you a girl?" and trying to flirt with him. Bonus bonus points if Light did this once and now can't decide whether he should pretend like it never happened or dig in his heels and insist that he's always known that Elie was a male-exclusive name and decided to flirt with L anyway.

I think that Light would hate L in the context of Wizard101, because L would be so good without any visible effort.  Light would spend 50 hours farming a boss for the best boots, or he would dedicate his entire weekend to farming Loremaster with nothing to show for it, while L would be drawing the Ultra Rare 4-person mount from a free seasonal pack and complaining to people on chat forums that it took him “almost thirty runs to get Pigsie.”

Just as Light and L are opposites (Fire and Ice), Near and Mello would be a Myth and a Storm wizard, respectively.

Mello would be a good fit for a Storm wizard, because he can do a lot of damage, but his spells often fizzle, and he frequently dies before the battle is over. Other players would use him for his heavy hitting, but that strategy wouldn't be viable for soloing much—although I'm sure that wouldn't stop Mello from trying. Also, Storm and Fire are similar schools, and I think that Light and Mello are similar characters. Both are too pretentious for their own good.

Near would be a Myth wizard, because both are given a hard time by fans for being "boring." Back when the game was new, I remember minions being the main draw to the Myth school. But plenty of people thought that they didn't need to summon minions to fight well, so it was seen as childish and a waste of everyone's time to summon a creature that would mess up traps, provide useless shields, etc. etc.

If Myth was seen as the most childish school, then I think it would fit well with Near, one of the youngest characters in Death Note who, like the Myth school, is very imaginative and surprisingly competent. (Also, I think that Near deserves to have a pet Orthrus. It would be very cute.)  Near also delegates responsibilities to people such as Gevanni and Rester, so it would make sense for him to be a minion-summoner.

Mikami would be a Death wizard, because his gameplay style would focus on being a supportive role for others at the cost of himself.  Could you imagine him using Feint four times (maybe eight, if he makes use of Treasure Cards) just so Light’s Fire Dragon spell can be boosted as much as possible?  He would also have spells such as Dark Pact, Sacrifice, and Bad Juju, which would deplete his health significantly if he never cast his own attacks to restore some hit points. 

I also think that Mikami wouldn’t optimize his deck completely, because he would enjoy the thrill of deleting half of his hand every round—and even though other players (like Light) would get mad at him for it, Mikami would genuinely enjoy having to rely on the luck of the draw to determine his next move.  (It’s worth noting that Mikami probably wouldn’t pack any Spiritual Traps or Blades for himself but would focus on having Elemental Traps and Blades that other, more powerful players can use.)

If Mikami is Death and Near is Myth, then imagine the sheer rage Light would feel when Mikami’s gearing up for his big attack (like at the Yellow Box Warehouse) only for Near to use Myth Imp the preceding turn and place a Death dispel on him.  (Bonus points if Light anticipated this and had Mikami prepare a Cleanse, only to realize that Near placed an Indemnity on the dispel, so Mikami’s big attack still fizzles.)

Misa would be a Life wizard, because it is seen as one of the more feminine schools (based on its weak attacks and emphasis on healing).  It would be fun if she always dyed her clothes black, so people assumed she was a Death wizard, while she actually played for one of the most vibrant and colorful schools.  I could see her attaching herself to a group of stronger players and establishing herself as the resident healer—though she would be surprisingly good at wreaking havoc on and attacking her enemies in a pinch.

Rem would be a Balance wizard, not just because of the whole dissolving-into-sand pun, but because she would be great in a support role, and I associate Life and Balance together (because I main a Life wizard whose secondary school is Balance).  If Misa focuses on healing others at the cost of herself, then Rem could use Helping Hands to reciprocate and keep Misa from over-exhausting herself. 

I also like the idea of Rem using the spell Judgment, and I could see her being a generally self-sufficient solo player who decides to help out those who are less competent at the game (much to the chagrin of more impatient players such as Light who don’t have the patience to explain puzzle rooms and cheat codes to newbies).

Those are the seven playable schools, but I DID think about a few other characters...

Matsuda would play as a Myth wizard, for similar reasons as Near: being underestimated and unpredictably efficient at his job, as well as working best in team settings.  Also, Matsuda having to put up with Cyrus Drake as his teacher would be a parallel to how exasperated the other Death Note characters get with him in canon.

Aizawa would be a Balance wizard, because he supposedly mediates well between the police and L during post-series investigations.  I also think this fits with his image as a family man, and if he were playing Wizard101, it would totally be to help his daughter out with tough boss battles.  (He would probably also trust her to log onto his account when he’s at work and have an extra player in battle to make her quests go by more quickly.)

Ryuk would be a Death wizard, mostly for the macabre aesthetic, although I can’t help but think that the perfect role for him in this game wouldn’t be another playable character but an NPC who follows a questing player around and lends them stat boosts—only I think that Ryuk would behave much like Captain Pork and provide a relatively insignificant benefit, like 3% accuracy.  (Bonus points if he provides +10% Death damage, which is completely useless to Light and only makes Mikami’s strategy of damaging himself to boost Light even more unsustainable.)

Hi, love your mushroom world ideas! Any character/NPC ideas?

Since wizard101 likes to have NPCs from old worlds in their new worlds, some insects from Khrysalis would be present. Some will tell you how they originally fled once things started to get messy and then came to love the mushroom world. However, now they're friends are being turned into zombies by the evil fungi party.

Another old friend would be Treants and dryads. One mainline quest will be helping to free the treants that normally benefited from allowing fungus to live in/on them but got betrayed and mind controlled.

Some children mushroom NPCs will look like this:

They would most likely not be a part of the main quest but, would give you a side quest

A few crops and plant pets would also get turned into NPCs such as the fungi and my favorite the couch potato. The couch potatoes will have a side quest to help prep their home so not fungus can take them over because "they refuse to be mind controlled" and then immediately go back to watching TV.

He will also be guest starring on the council for the good guys of wanting everything balanced and not wanting one dominant group.

I know you asked about NPCs but by giving plot it will help explain them a bit more and give an idea of main NPCs:

The Evil Fungi party I have yet to name has sent the balance out of order and the council does not know how to separate the good fungus from the bad after being betrayed. They decide if you fail to reset the balance quick enough in a peaceful way, they will have to save the world from decay by eradicating all fungus.

That's right, you get to get thrown into the middle of a war! The counsel doesn't want the war however, because they don't want to eradicate their friends, so while they're saying you need to be quick they aren't actually keeping track of time and try to help you in any way you need. Sadly, an Anti fungus party is starting in secret away from the council...

It is.. Sad to post the final chapter alone, but im glad to finally not have to worry about the fic anymore. I hope you guys enjoyed reading, lets finish this off...

Even before Emile had answered the doorbell, Logan could hear Patton's baby babble of "dadda dadda dadadadada" through the door. They had just came back from Remy's funeral, the car ride to Emile's apartment was silent and painful. Car rides would probably always be painful for Roman after everything that happened. He kept a hand on Logan the whole time, up until Emile had opened the door with a bouncing baby Patton in his arms

"Hii!" He sing songy, shifting Patton to one arm to hug Logan when he entered "someone missed you!" Roman couldn't help but smile looking at him, his little legs kicking frantically and hands making grabby motions towards Logan. He had thick blonde curls circling his head like a halo, and chubby cheeks smiling ear to ear.

"And I missed him!" Logan called, taking Patton into his own arms and hugging him tight. Patton's hands were pulling at anything he could get, giggling when he pulled off his daddas glasses and dropped them to the floor. "Did you have fun with uncle Emile??" He asked, getting a string of gibberish back from the boy. Emile gestured them in, nudging toys out of the way from where they were sprawled out on the floor. 

Roman took a minute to take in the room and quickly realised he couldn't tell where Patton's stuff stopped and Emile's started. The walls were a light pink almost like a baby girls nursery, shelves of stuffed animals and toys decorating the walls alongside posters of avatar the last airbender and into the spiderverse. The only thing that did not match the childlike decor was the pictures of him and another man decorating every free space he had. 

Logan carried on pretending to understand the mindless babble from Patton as Roman traced the room, stopping in front of a frame holding the two on their wedding day, kissing like it was the only thing giving them life. 

"That was angel" Emile smiled, resting his hand on Roman's shoulder. "He was perfect" 

'Was?' Roman thought to himself, a quick glance at Emile's hand revealed a wedding band and one more glance around the room showed a picture of Emile nearly tackling the man wearing a military uniform in what seems to be an airport. 'Oh.'

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude" Roman laughed awkwardly. He had met Emile a smattering of times when him and Logan were dating, but had never actually talked about anything more than the charlie brown thanksgiving special they watched every year. 

"Oh you're fine" Emile waved it off "it was a long time ago" behind them, roman could hear Logan baby-talk back to his son.

"That's Roman" he stretched out Roman's name for the boy to learn "Roman" the man in question whipped around, moving to squat in front of the two sitting on the couch. 

"Ro-in" Patton tried, making both of them smile widely. Roman played with the fingers on Patton's chubby hand, making the baby giggle.

"It's nice to meet you!" Roman smiled, holding out his finger for Patton to grab and shake. His entire hand circled around one finger.

"I think he likes you" Logan added softly, picking up Patton and setting him in Roman's arms. Patton loved being held by anyone and everyone, he thrived off the physical affection and absolutely adored the attention. He practically immediately wrapped his arms around the stranger, mumbling various incorrect versions of his name as he tried to add it to his limited vocabulary. (New words were coming everyday, even if he didn't know what they meant. Yesterday he learned 'kitty' after watching monsters inc) 

"I think I like him too" he whispered. When Emile walked into the kitchen, Roman moved himself and Patton onto the couch, resting his head against Logan's shoulder as he bounced Patton up and down. "I like this. I like that you're a dad now.. " Patton started to wiggle himself out of Roman's grip, crawling to the floor to beat at some blocks with letters on them. 

"Well" Logan smiled fondly, leaning over and tilting Roman's chin gently with his index finger "I think you'd make a pretty great dad too" he kissed him softly, the action being more smiles than anything.

This was what Roman wanted, and was afraid he'd never get. Forgiveness. The promise that he hadn't ruined this too, that they could start over with a kid and soon a new apartment, a new family… that despite everything he was still loved. 

Unconditionally. 

One year later

“Papa Roman look!” Patton bounced, holding up painting of the three of them, plus their pet cat virgil. He smiled a mostly toothless grin as he proudly displayed his work. In all reality, the construction paper had barely recognizable blobs of color and some scribbles vaguely forming the shape of the 3 and a black splotch of paint labeled 'virgil ' . 

“Look at that!” Roman proudly proclaimed, hoisting up Patton and setting him on the counter beside him “aren't you just a little artist!” Patton nodded his head,  happily kicked his legs against the counter. He made small grabby hands towards the empty bowl of cake batter, still not fantastic at forming sentences to ask for what wants . Roman chuckled and held up the spoon, holding it in front of him before pulling it back.

“Say please,” he instructed.

“Please!” Patton giggled, pulling on Roman's apron, smiling widely when he received the spoon. 

“What do we say?” Roman added, watching Patton smear the chocolate batter on his face in an attempt to fit the entire mixing spoon in his mouth.

“Thank you!” he added around the spoon. A door opened in the adjacent living room, and Roman silently congratulated himself for not flinching too hard. He felt their cat virgil rub itself against his leg, asking silently to be lifted and pet, he was a lot like the actual virgil, always wanting attention, causing trouble, managing to find the weirdest places to nap. Roman had a conspiracy that the cat actually was virgil, Logan told him that was nonsense.

“Daddy!” Patton called, hopping off the counter and falling to the floor, legs trembling slightly as he stood up and continued to run to Logan standing by the door.

 “Greetings, Patton,” Logan smiled, lifting his son into his arms with a small grunt of effort “hello Roman.” this has become routine for the pair. Once the dust had settled, court cases fought, and funerals had, they had done everything in their power to make life as normal as possible for themselves, and Patton. That didn't stop it from hurting, they both still woke up from night terrors from that day, week,hell the whole month. They both know that it'll never completely go away, that that pain and hurt and trauma will still be there underneath it all but for now they had a kid to raise and the therapy and medication emile helped them get set up sure was helping. 

“You’re home early,” Roman smiled, leaning up to give Logan a small kiss as he walked through the kitchen. Logan had, understandably, quit his job as a detective, moving instead to work some nameless desk job. Roman had started working from home, finding it easier to handle emotionally after everything that happened, plus giving him a chance to finally get to know Patton. 

Logan began to rant and ramble about his time with his boss and coworkers,why he was home early, the traffic on the way there, and something in Roman's head clicked about how much of a dad he looked like. Holding his child, standing in the kitchen of their own, virgil now trying to find a way on top of the fridge and the sun shining through the window above the sink and the smell of chocolate cake slowly filling the kitchen. 

It was the life he'd always wanted, and the life Logan had always wanted to provide. When he met ethan, he was promised a life of luxury- high celings, epensive clothes, sex, and money. But looking back this was all he wanted. A Modest apartment with a kid and Logan, and an engagement ring on his finger, this time one he was asked, not told to wear.

This was exactly where he wanted to be, this was the happy ending hed always imagined in his head.

“Are you alright Roman?” Logan's voice pierced through his thoughts, setting Patton down on the floor beside him to cup his face in his hands. 

“Yeah,” he smiled, sniffing softly. “I'm okay." there was a whisper of hope on the tip of his tounge.

"I'm okay."
