I am in AWE of your's and Hannah's art for CR's Downfall <3 I'm always drawn (pun intended heh) to your use of color, your art is always so rich and vibrant especially your watercolor series! If you don't mind answering some questions about it, 1) what was your favourite part of doing the gods' divine forms? 2) Are you able to share any of the cast's feedback during the process of designing them?

1. I’d have to say my favourite part was balancing what we know canonically of their appearances with a few context clues to their demeanour to create a piece that feasibly looks like a follower created it. Painting Divinity or saintly angelic forms is obviously a fav subject matter so it couldn’t have been a better project for me haha

2. For cast feedback, the whole cast was super positive and delightful, adding in insights and details that absolutely informed the general vibe. Taliesin’s design for Asha and the Wildmother were done very concurrently, so the rage of nature was very much a key component. Both @nickmarini and @noshirdalal were very insightful as well, and brought a lot of character motivation to the table, I personally have such a long-standing devotion to Pelor (my OG Paladin deity) so for me in particular our alignment on the concept of the Dawnfathers vibe was basically identical. For me with the Divine paintings vibes and approvals were being pulled from a ton of different sources so I’m glad it all managed to become cohesive!

I'm kinda curious about the period of time when Minato was Hokage, because there's so much you could say about Konoha depending on it. It could be that I don't remember what the manga says about it too, but anyway.

We know that before Minato was Hokage, the discrimination towards jinchuurikis was high. We know it from Kushina's story. After Minato, the jinchuurikis discrimination was not exactly as bad as it could have been (and the bar is soooo low) in physical terms, but the level of sheer isolation was ridiculous. Sure, Kushina had guards and she lived in a tower with a perimeter drawn around it, one that she couldn't surpass. The difference is that Kushina knew why she was being isolated, there was someone willing to teach her about it right from the start, a family member even if distant, someone with the same experience.

All Naruto knew is that he was unwanted. He had no family, no one was willing to guide him. No, not even Iruka. I'm talking about before in the manga, before Iruka realized how much Naruto needed him and did something about it.

If that was before and after, how was it during the time Minato was Hokage?

Did Minato push for Kushina to become Hokage? Was the idea rejected? Did he get angry? It was her dream after all. Or did they realize it would be impossible so they pushed Minato to go for it? Were they sad about the idea of Kushina having to live her dream through Minato, because they wouldn't let her go for it? When did Kushina give up and change her goal in life?

Did Minato tell anyone about his plan on how to get rid of the jinchuuriki discrimination? Did he talk about it with Kushina? We know that they planned Naruto's birth and tried to make it as safe as possible. When the time to seal Kurama within Naruto came, they both knew how Konoha would treat Naruto. Minato wanted Naruto to be viewed as the son of a hero, but his wishes were thrown aside as soon as his body was cold enough.

With no law to protect the jinchuuriki of the kyubi, I wonder how bold the people of Konoha were in their discrimination against Kushina while Minato was Hokage. Times were different, Minato was highly respected and feared, but how many times did he have to tell someone to mind their words? How many times did he catch Kushina avoiding a certain restaurant or a street? Did he ever feel a slight of resentment against his home for the way they treated his wife? His pregnant wife?

Were there rumors of the child being a monster for being the son of a jinchuuriki? It could be that some Konoha parents telling their kids to not play with the little Uzumaki/Namikaze was a thing before Naruto was even born?

From what I've seen, Konoha has no gentleness for kids of prestigious lineages. Being a child of a powerful shinobi makes your life worse, in fact. A million times over: it happened to Sasuke, to Neji, it happened to Kakashi in the generation before them, it happened to Itachi in the in-between.

I don't think that being the son of the hokage would have saved Naruto for being mistreated by the village. Not when his mother was a jinchuuriki.

It just makes me wonder, you know?

In the time he had, how did Minato try to change things to protect his family?

Was it a matter of needing more time? Or there wasn't a plan at all?

I've alluded to this before but one of the possible stories I could see happening for Campaign 3 is essentially the story from the Old Kingdom books by Garth Nix, aka one of my formative fantasy series. The basic gist of the story (spoilers for a 20 year old book) told in the original trilogy is that an ancient evil, sealed behind a number of wards by seven of the powerful creators of the world (it was the 9th creator; the 8th abstained) is unearthed, and the agents doing this spark unrest and war (sound familiar?). Those seven creators were largely put into the system of magic and no longer exist as independent entities, with a couple exceptions. Ultimately, people acting as the avatars of six of those creators; the remnant of the seventh; and the remnant of the eighth who had originally not participated are able to seal it once more.

While this definitely has, as I mentioned above, plenty of parallels to Campaign 3 the part that actually made me connect the dots (since, let's be real, this is the plot to a whole lot of epic fantasy) is the concept of avatars of long-dormant or dead powers reenacting an ancient rite of sealing. Ashton and whoever wields the spark of Rau'shan will stand for those titans, who once sealed Predathos; and I wonder if the Raven Queen (who post-dates the original sealing; her predecessor was presumably present) and the Luxon (not mentioned) will have a role to play this time.

I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, a ship is 2 potential things (and can be both at the same time) :

1) pure unadulterated smut. just people who you think should bang getting nasty about it

2) a vehicle for angst and drama. I don’t need them to end up together, or together forever. I want yearning. I want misunderstandings. I want a burn so slow it’d cook a frog in a pot.
